Spring

Help your garden birds flourish by feeding them all year round and not just the winter. Wild birds face different challenges per season.

Feeding in this season helps keep the birds strong while they are feeding their young.

Summer

During the summer months we often get dry ground, making it more difficult for the birds to find food. Feeding during the summer months enables them to find a food source to boost what they will find naturally.

Autumn

The Autumn season, the birds find themselves moulting and preparing their bodies for the for the hard winter months ahead.

Winter

Feeding this season is vital in helping the birds survive the challenging weather conditions that winter brings. It helps them get ready for the nesting period in early Spring.

Great value set with a large amount of coconut halves of varying sizes.
Each half has a rope attached for it to be hung up and is solidly filled with suet and seeds.
Lots here and the birds seem to love them.
Great energy provider for your wild birds.
    Super.

I actually only got nine pieces in my box. The tape sealing the box was coming loose and a gap visible at one end, so my guess is that one actually escaped somewhere along the line. These are a bit smaller than other ones I have bought, but they seem to be equally enjoyed by the birds. Price seems OK in comparison but perhaps a little on the expensive side seeing as they are not quite so big as some.

Something different for our feathered friends. Normally I refill a hanging bird feeder with suet pellets (or seeds) and we have a separate makeshift wooden box for stormier days to offer food and shelter.

I had never bought these before – I actually thought I’d have to drill a hole in the suet-filled coconut shells to hang them! Stupid of me, really!! These come individually-wrapped, ready-to-hang with sisal rope loops on each shell.

The local bird population seems (mostly) not to have discovered the one I’ve hung up – yet! It appears to take them a few days to discover new methods of sharing food, in my experience. One day after hanging, there’s a few pecks of suet eaten already.

We have a little solar water fountain nearby which the birds drink from and splash around in, too.

Thanks for letting us test these out, and, if the suet blocks (also from this manufacturer – they were a huge success – changed every day!) are anything to go by..these suet shells won’t last long once word gets around!

We feed a lot of birds and have done so for years, they cost us a small fortune but the rewards are great. These Wild Bird Food Suet Coconut Halves are OK although they are not large, one of them is probably the smallest coconut half I have ever seen. As a Vine Voice who feeds the birds clearly I was going to order these if they were free as it would have been mad not too.

The thing is although they seem to be priced OK for what they are; the fact is buying Wild Bird Food Suet Coconut Halves is not the most cost effective way to feed the birds and it is much cheaper to buy fat balls, seed, suet and peanuts in bulk from somewhere that sells them at a good price. Although the price of bird food has certainly increased in recent years.

I have given these four stars because I think the price seems fair, but as I said there are more cost effective ways to feed the birds. But one of these hanging near a window will look good and if you know someone who is stuck indoors and needs something to watch to keep them interested then these are great.

Sorry the pictures are not that great as they are taken through double glazing. The first bird to find this by the way was a Woodpecker. We have had a couple of them nesting nearby this year.

We are lucky to have so many wonderful varieties here in the Highlands – blue tits (we had a ‘family’ in our bird box recently!), gold finches, starlings, robins (very aggressive towards other birds / territorial – they even hop on my partner’s hand!) and many others.

I often sit with a cup of tea and watch the soap opera unfold – usually at our hanging bird feeder which has been getting really busy this summer. One day I had to refill it three times with suet pellets and it was getting boisterous out there..lots of bickering!

These suet coconut half-shells are new to me, but I got my partner to hang a few pieces of rope with carabiners at the end and spread two amongst our birch tree’s branches (placed low down). These shells come separately wrapped with individual rope loops.

The birds around here love the suet pellets we often buy, so these suet shells have been a great success. Though, larger birds seem to find it harder to ‘hang on’.

I did consider putting a suet shell on a bird table but I suspect the seagulls would swoop down and steal them (my boyfriend left a pack of shrink-wrapped steaks at his feet, chatting standing outside a Co-op the other night. A seagull nicked it from him in seconds!! Which gives some idea how opportunistic they are!).

Not sure how long this pack of 10 suet shells will last (we’ve hung two outside at the moment)..for us, as it gets so busy out in the garden, I’d say, about a week.

From day one of hanging these outside the birds devoured it. I have greedy starlings in the garden so they eat alot of bird food till.its gone.
It hung up fine by the attached rope didn’t fall.or come apart.
The suet gets messy and bits fall all.over the floor when the birds peck away at it however in my garden them scraps get scooped up by the pigeons.
Birds are happy honest this if toy have alot of bird trafic you could probably got thru this pack quickly I’m sticking to putting out one a day.

I recently bought the Suet Shop Wild Bird Food Suet Coconut Halves to attract and nourish the birds in my garden. With a high energy and protein content, these suet coconut halves seemed like an excellent way to support local wildlife, especially during the colder months.

Upon receiving the pack, I was pleased with the quality and presentation. The ten coconut halves were generously filled with a rich suet mixture, and they looked appealing even to the human eye. Each half is sturdy and well-packed, making them easy to handle without creating a mess.

Hanging them up in my garden was straightforward. The natural shape of the coconut halves includes a built-in hanging loop, which made it easy to attach them to branches and bird feeders. Within a short time, birds of various species started visiting, from robins and sparrows to blue tits and even a woodpecker. It was a joy to watch them enjoy the suet, which they seemed to find irresistible.

The nutritional benefits are evident in the increased activity and health of the birds. The high energy and protein content provide essential nutrients, helping the birds maintain their energy levels and stay warm, particularly in colder weather. The mixture includes seeds and grains, which are a favorite among many garden birds.

However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind. Depending on the bird population in your area, these suet halves can be consumed quite quickly, so you might need to replace them more often than expected. Additionally, while the coconut shells are biodegradable, they do create some waste that needs to be disposed of once the suet is finished.

Overall, the Suet Shop Wild Bird Food Suet Coconut Halves have been a fantastic addition to my garden. They are easy to use, attract a wide variety of birds, and provide the necessary nutrients to support their health and well-being. If you enjoy birdwatching and want to give your feathered friends a nutritious treat, I highly recommend these suet coconut halves.

I will be completely honest with you – these are the first bird products I have ever ordered in 41 years of my life. This means I have no frame of reference and I cannot say whether or not these are a good example of their type or not, or whether this brand is better than any other brand.

They arrive boxed and then each of the 10 individual pieces have their own plastic wrappers, which are easy to remove. They seem to be actual half-coconut shells, which is fun and better than plastic or whatever. They are very light which I found somewhat surprising. When you look at them they are half coconut shells filled with fat and bird food you’d think they had some weight to them but they don’t really. I have put one outside on the top of a fence and haven’t seen any takers as yet, but they don’t know it’s there yet. I’m sure given time it will become populated.

I’m happy with these they seem perfectly good to me, albeit I’m a self-confessed newbie in this area.
