It is great. I had to charge this before putting this in the place where I wanted it, and the solar panel keeps it fully charged. Great day/night vision. I would highly recommend this product.
Item built well, battery and solar panel working perfectly.
Connection through the Tapo app slower when compared to Tapo direct wired products.
The same applies for the Tapo battery doorbell.
Other than that great products and suppo
Very easy to install and connect to my existing Tapo hub. Maintains it’s charge well after 3 weeks of usage and saves me having to go up the ladders and change the battery. Will be replacing my other Tapo battery cameras to this system in the near future.
Very compact. Easy to set up, connect and fit to the wall. Super app that’s very easy to use. Too early to comment on battery life. Overall very pleased and would recommend!
The cameras arrived and I found them very easy to connect to the hub. They work really well and seem to be well made. I can’t comment on the battery life yet as I haven’t had them long enough.
I would recommend having spare batteries as they take 5-6 hours to fully charge.
But overall I’m happy with them.
I do love Tapo kit!
I have 5 other camera’s (all Tapo) at home.
I needed a couple of outdoor cameras to monitor my cats as we have a niegbours cat who is tormenting the entire cat population where I live.
The camera’s and hub are easy to set up but remeber you will need a Micro SD card to plug into the hub to store the video files.
Adding the cameras is a piece of cake in the Tapo app and they immediately update the firmware.
The seal on the camera battery compartment appears good so I except these to hold up well in bad weather.
There are threaded mounting options for repair and bottom mounting.
The app allowss you to configure these for pet motion, human detection etc.
Image quality is good.
Wifi range appears pretty good but the cameras will switch the recrds quality down if in poor wifi range.
I dod recommend adding a home mesh kit if you have a lot of Wifi stuff at home. It just ensures the Wifi coverage is good all around the house.
There are only two issues I have with the camera.
1. The colour of the camera housing is a stark white and stands out so it does not blend with most backgrounds.
2. The image quality is degraded when rain lands on the lens as it does when it rains!
I’m currently working on a 3D printed hood solution so I hope to have a fix soon.
Just hooked up the Tapo 2-Camera Security System at my place, and it’s pretty cool so far. Here’s the lowdown:
Setup – Super Easy:
These little cams were a piece of cake to set up. No wires, no fuss. The magnetic mounts are a game changer — stick them up and angle them how you like.
Video Quality – Pretty Solid:
Daytime footage is crisp and clear, covering a good area. Night vision’s alright, though not top-notch. Still, good enough to see what’s going on out there.
Battery Life – Lasting Well:
Been over a month, and they’re still kicking. The battery life will depend on how much they’re recording, though.
App & Features – Handy:
The Tapo app is easy to use. Live viewing and motion alerts on my phone are super convenient. Plus, chatting through the camera with the two-way audio is kinda fun.
Storage – Flexible:
I like that you can use a microSD card for storage — no forced cloud subscription. I went for the cloud option, though, for extra backup.
Overall Value – Worth It:
Not the cheapest, but for what you get, it’s a good deal. Easy to use, good quality footage, and reliable enough for everyday peace of mind.
So, yeah, the Tapo Smart System is a solid choice if you’re looking to up your home security game without breaking the bank or your brain!
Easy to set up twin system. Good clear picture and a simple menu through your phone. Batteries last for ages and charge within a few hours when discharged. I use an SD card which gives ample footage and negates the need to use the cloud, which you have to pay for. Would definitely recommend.
Honestly, this kit is class. I use mine in my tortoise table to check in on my tortoise and see what he’s eaten and where he’s been etc.
The first misconception is that people say the live view is slow to connect. This is untrue, and is solely based on the many other complexities within a home network – speed, router, distance to junction box. Remember this is upload speeds, not download speed. The video is being uploaded through your router, not downloaded. Hopefully my video makes that clear for other people who are interested.
The second is the weight for mounting. I’ve mounted mine using a paperclip and wire, with the camera facing down. This has been solid and the weight hasn’t made a difference. In fact it feels quite considering it’s a rotating camera!
The camera takes very little time to install and setup, it works great with the app and with other Kasa products. Mine is hanging upside down and the image in the app was flipped in the settings menu. The zone feature is fantastic to snap the camera in its different angles of view. I try to cover the important places or as many angles to make navigation quick and easy. However, the joystick is also very usable and makes navigation slower but still smooth and easy.
I can’t fault this product, but I haven’t tried the night vision at this time as it isn’t a feature that I use, so bear this in mind. This is great for so many use cases, I can’t recommend it enough 🙂
Camera is rather easy to setup via mobile app.
Benefits: good quality image, records on SD (limited to 128GB MAX), very good motion detection by movment or person detection.
Cons: fiddly to setup, once connected to WiFi instantly updates itself – slow process, might take some time, No computer app to view on big screen, no Onvif or RTSP.
Conclusion: for simple setup – perfect camera, For more advances users might be limited in functionality.
For the money, this camera is a great buy. Easy to install and up and running in 2 minutes and the first thing you notice is the high quality picture. App control is simple with various options and notification area adjustable. There are a couple of observations to be aware of such as the large USB interface type which creates a bigger hole than you may imagine, and also if you want to view this on a chromecast device it times out after 5 minutes, which means if you want to watch it constantly, you have to do this on the app. I have the app on my tablet as well as the phone in case I want to watch whats going on in the front of the house while I work from my office facing the back of the house. As far as recording history, I haven’t purchased any packages but it goes back enough days, plus you can download anything of interest anyway. Would definitely recommend and will be buying a second unit soon.
Night vision is as good as I could wish for and motion detection is very good whilst picture quality is excellent . I bought two of these in Which mags reviews and my family and I are extremely happy with the camera . Excellent value , I fully recommend it to you.
Brilliant bit of tech, I use it in my bay window as we’ve been harassed by a neighbor a few times.
It comes with a great, easy to use setup kit and looks very nice once installed.
I’d does of course need a subscription in order to save and view the clips you record, but it’s not very expensive and it’s to be expected with smart devices these days.
I do recommend ensuring that you have a good quality, high speed broadband connection before setting up cameras though, as it will be very laggy and miss movement otherwise. Also in order to use Alexa with it, you must have an Alexa Show.
All in all, I love it and it gives me peace of mind when I leave my wife and kids at home to go to work.
Very good camera, especially for the price. Great quality during the day, and not too bad at night. I have recommended it (and the whole Kasa system) to several friends and colleagues.
I turned off automatic night mode to leave the camera in day mode, as with the street lighting there is enough light for the camera to work, and it captures more detail than with the IR filter & light on. I dropped a star because the cable is fitted with a full size USB A plug which requires a large hole. As the camera is powered by USB only, and that no data transfer is possible (there are only 2 wires in the cable), a different connector/charging system should be fitted. Another rrason for the dropped star is the brand dilution by TP-Link with their new Tapo brand… this is a terrible idea, as anyone investing in smart home solutions wants to have confidence in the long term support by the brand, and such a dilution of interests casts doubt on that.
I am happy with the camera. It works well where I have it at the front of the house, although there is about a 4 second delay when you first load the app, but as this is also common with the more expensive brands I do not consider this to be a big problem.
The night vision would be awful, but we are not far from the road and have streetlight nearby, so it works for us. I would suggest putting up a PIR light as well if you don’t have lighting near your home. The picture in daylight is pretty good.
The sound is acceptable. It has a 2 way mic, so I use it instead of an intercom or ring doorbell to communicate with those outside. If you were to mount it high up you probably would find the speaker not loud enough, but as I’m not actually using it as a security camera, I have mine mounted at door height, and even with a busy road nearby, I do not find the sound to be much of an issue, although it does pick up wind snd traffic.
You can also activate a siren if you want someone to go away, but you can disable this if you want to.
The camera is supplied with about a 2metre power lead, with a usb connection at the end, and a main plug is supplied. This could be a problem if you want to feed the power cable through a wall as a bigger hole would have to be made to accommodate the USB plug. However, we have fed ours between the front door and the frame, and this seems to work fine.
It connected easily with my echo 5 show and the app (which I already use for plugs) is basic but functional.
I think for the price, this was a good buy.
