Much larger than expected, but really well made. Enough space to fit a couple of pizza boxes inside, or a massive picnic lunch. The bag outer material feels very premium and the foil insulating liner looks strong enough to handle frequent use. The backpack strap are simple, not much padding but overall fine unless you’re planning to carry your food over any great distance.
Full price (at time of writing) is 24.99 which is good value and with the current 12% off (21.99) it’s worth snapping up.
This bag is bigger than expected and it’s insulated enough to go on a picnic. Its an ideal backpack to carry chilled and bulky light items and less on the heavier items like liquids.
This bag is of good quality and looks very sturdy with padded straps for comfort.
The insulated area has a zip to keep in the cold temperature.
I’ve also used this bag so store my chilled foodstuff whenever I go shopping and will be away from home for a while.
This bag certainly has many uses.
.
Really great and easy to carry to our steep walk up and down to our favourite secluded beach as it’s a backpack. Lots of room for our food and drink essentials to spend hours on the beach. Keeps it cold. Nice material and made well but my only issue is the bottom closure strap is stitched high up so it would’t allow me to roll the top properly and the sides would unroll eventually. Nice that the foil insert can be removed too to double as a regular backpack. Not as lightweight because of the good quality thick material.
The first thing to bear in mind, is just how big this is – The photos don’t do it justice. You could fit a lunchbox or two plus some wine bottles in this. There is a metallic inner to keep everything cold (although it’s not that well insulated, so cannot judge how long this will keep things icy!). The material is quite rigid (by design), so it isn’t particularly comfortable to lug around for too long – but i doubt many people would be doing this anyways – you’d shake all the lunch around!
For the price, a reasonable bag for families to fit everything into. A decent enough price.
I originally ordered this backpack to take on holiday for when we take picnics, or cold drinks with us. When it arrived I realised it was bigger than I’d visualised, which has really increased its usefulness. We are around an hour from the nearest supermarket, and this bag has meant we can use it to safely bring home chilled or frozen food, as well as being able to keep our picnics chilled until we require them.
The roll top was a new concept to me, but was easy to do, and you can tighten or loosen the clip, to roll it tighter or to loosen it. There is plenty of room for a large amount of contents, along with freezer blocks to keep things cooler for longer. The straps are padded, which if you are carrying heavier items is a massive plus. The insulated lining can even be unzipped and removed, which I assume is for easier cleaning.
Overall it’s a very well designed item, it works extremely well, it’s easy to carry, and easy to use, and I’m very happy to recommend it.
Picnic weather at last!
This VonShef Roll-Top Cooler Backpack, 26L warrants 5 stars from me.
This is a very simple yet comprehensive cool bag. The thick food grade aluminium lining with 8mm EPE foam keeps food cool for 6 hours without the need for ice packs. Clearly you’ll need to chill your food and drinks first, but this is ideal as it means you’re not schlepping heavy ice packs around with you.
It has a large top opening, perfect for loading all your food and drinks and for unloading.
The zipped cooler section is removable and includes a netted pocket inside which keeps our yogurts upright, leak-free and secure in transit. You can load the bag with food and drinks ahead of time and place it in the fridge overnight, then all you need to do is get ready and zip the cooler section onto the bag and go.
I especially like that once the cooler section is removed, the bag can be used for shopping, work, school etc. It’s stylish looking and folds down to its minimum size or opens up to its huge capacity.
There are two side holders too. This means I can have water bottles at room temperature and separate – handy for rinsing cheeky chops or used cutlery as well as being easily accessible. The two side holders are the perfect size for standard bottles of wine – handy for adult picnics.
The padded straps are generously cushioned to take the strain off long hikes for comfortable transportation.
It feels incredibly hardwearing and well made. It’s well proportioned with lots of space for a small family picnic, yet it is lightweight. I think it offers great value for money.
This cooler bag has everything I need for a good picnic with my family. It kept our food and drinks cold and I was able to have my hands free to hold both my grandchildren’s hands to get to the park from the bus station safely.
It is backed by a minimum 2-year warranty which is very impressive.
I highly recommend it.
Sure, you could hike with this backpack. But if you really put 36 cans of liquid in it, that’d be 12.88 Kg or 28 pounds. That’s a lot of weight to carry in a thin backpack full of hard objects and I wouldn’t recommend it on a long hike. The straps are padded, but not that padded, or shaped at all to the contours of a human body. There’s no chest strap, and the bag itself is not that padded.
I bring all this up because they make a claim in the title and description about hiking. Would you want to walk with this backpack fully laden for four or more hours? Well, not twice you wouldn’t so don’t reference it in your description.
They also give the weight capacity as 10Kg which is well under that 36 cans of soft drink they claim it can take. Whoops.
If you want to use this for picnics, picking up groceries from a shop that’s a thirty minute walk away, or keeping food and drinks cool in a trip in a vehicle such as a train or car, no problem. Just don’t buy this thinking it’s a proper camping and hiking backpack, with the added bonus of an insulated lining. It is not.
I like it, I like the design, I like that it’s more or less flat when not in use and the lining is removable. It’ll be great to use as a wearable cool bag for shorter distances. I just think the description needs work.
The price is fine for what this is. If you do want something for hiking, I’d rather get cool bags that would fit in a proper rucksack, or find a rucksack shaped rucksack with insulation and better features. Not that you should take *that* much food on a hike or be the only one carrying it!
This is a truly high-quality item.
The fabric is of excellent quality. Inside, there’s a removable reflective liner that can be taken out if you want to use it as a regular backpack. If used as an insulated backpack, it keeps cans of drinks and sandwiches nicely chilled for outings or picnics. If you’re not using it to its full capacity, the top can be rolled down, which is a nice feature. There’s also a clip at the top to keep everything secure. Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with this item. It’s a quality product and it’s great for keeping everything cool.
PROS
-seems well made
-effective insulation, keeps our picnic drinks and sandwiches cold as we hike out to our favourite spot (about an hour)
-comfortable straps
-quite capacious
-separate mesh pocket ideal for a cool pack
-can even remove the insulation, if you just want to use it as a (single pocket) backpack
CONS
-the dark fabric gets warm in the sun, which warms the cold things inside faster than if the fabric were lighter
NOTES
-another reviewer mentioned using this for grocery shopping, brilliant, I hadn’t thought of that (but I’ll do so going forward)
MY STAR RATINGS:
1* substandard, mostly cons
2** barely acceptable, cons outweigh the pros
3*** meets the basic requirements, cons balance the pros
4**** good product, pros outweigh the cons
5***** exceptional, all (or almost all) pros
