I’ve used every medium right back to 5.5″ floppies and it’s a pain to keep current whilst also being backwards compatible.
CDs and DVDs aren’t much used these days and they are now deleted from most modern office laptops. That’s okay until you’re given a file on a CD.
Email, Ethernet/Internet sharing and USB keys are great but sometimes you have very large image and video files that you need to hand over and you don’t want to give away a USB key.
Indeed, USB keys are also less common now.
This combined disk player / writer plays all the disks I’m likely to receive and allowed me to burn a couple of video files I wanted to hand over to a client.
Mostly, I’ll use it to play legacy DVDs through my laptop into the TV.
An excellent product – recommended.
Not only is this super helpful when you have that emergency need for an optical drive, but it also has 4 usb ports, 2xC and 2xA, a SD and microSD card reader. The inbuilt cable is such a great idea so you don’t have to go hunting for the right one when you need it. Not only is this an optical drive to read discs but its also a burner, so if you need that emergency backup/transfer and the internet or USB flash drive is not an option this fills that gap.
I got this so I could play some old DVD movies on my PC which, like most computers nowadays, lacks an optical drive.
It worked great, read the DVDs and played them without any problems. It isn’t too loud so doesn’t distract from watching.
I haven’t used the USB ports or SD card reader much on the device, as it wasn’t what I got it for, they’re optional nice-to-haves on this kind of device. I wouldn’t attempt to use something like a USB HDD with this as it won’t provide enough power to run the optical drive and a hard drive, but something like a USB flash drive or a keyboard/mouse combo should work just fine.
The connection to the PC is just 5Gbps though, so if you do have multiple data storage devices in the optical drives USB ports, expect transfer speeds to slow down a bit.
With the nowadays laptops that no longer have a CD/DVD unit in them, if you ever need to access the content on such discs then this is a great device to have. Easy to install and straight forward to use, all at a decent price. Plus you also get an SD card reader.
As powerful as it is portable.
In a world where laptops/notebooks are no longer built with disk drives this external drive is great and a real boon for those of use who are frequently ‘on the road’. The disk drive performs just as you would expect.
Altogether a very tidy and durable solution. Compact and easy to put in the laptop bag for travelling.
The addition of extra ports is great. All the drives function very well. Only one observation/note of caution: exercise caution when transporting as dust and ingress will creep into the device if you don’t transport it in something protective.
A definite buy for remote and travelling workers alike – recommended.
I have some old photos stored on several CD-ROMs as well as family movies stored on DVD. new laptops didn’t have CD drive built-in and I needed to convert some of these old drives to digital storage so I thought I would give this drive a whirl and its worked as described.
It’s adorably tiny – much smaller and quieter spinning than other external drives I’ve had – and powers itself from my laptop via a USB port. it can read memory card or connect flash drive as well.
With PCs and laptops not having a cd drive as standard I lost the ability to read my old CDs I have with pictures and files on. This portable cd drive is great, easy to use, light weight and compact so easy to store once I’ve finished using it. It has several connectors and an SDcard slot too, so very versatile.
Great value and happy with my purchase. Highly recommend if you need to read some old CDs.
This product comes in a cardboard box. As of reviewing, it costs 25.99. I think this is a good price because of the added convenience of the extra slots.
The drive is very light and thin, but it feels like a good-quality product. It is well built, and it feels like time has been taken to design it, especially with the places for the extra ports.
This CD/DVD drive is really useful as it cannot only read DVD movies or CDs but also write to them. I plugged this into a Spare USB 3 port on both a Windows 11 desktop PC and an Ubuntu Linux laptop. They read it immediately, allowing me to watch movies and listen to music.
I tested the product’s read and write speed using both CDs and DVDs, and it is very fast. I especially like the ability to plug in extra devices like an SD card, micro SD card, 2 USB 3 devices, and 2 USB-C devices, which is really convenient as most external DVD drives do not have this feature.
I recommendthisproduct.
This DVD drive is absolutely brilliant. It provides massive all-in-one functionality. First and foremost, it is a CD/DVD reader and writer which can write DVDs at 8x and CDs at 24x speed maximums, covering a majority of use cases for these optical media types.
Secondly, it has an array of USB and SD card slots, which also makes it function as a brilliant multimedia hub. The connectivity of the device is USB 3, which means everything plugged into this device will be able to read and write at maximum performance (as long as it is plugged into a compatible computer).
I am really impressed by the convenience and space-saving this CD/DVD writer provides.
