I have brought this laptop for my daughter as she has just started 3 years at Uni. I like the fact that its has Military Grade 810 as this should mean it can take some knocks as it has to last 3 years at Uniiversity. Hopefully it will. Its also very fast..
A lovely little laptop for people like me who no longer have to deal with databases and MS Project. Easy to set up but………. one gripe. I have large hands and am a pretty good touch typist, on the LH side of the keyboard the upper shift key which is extensively used is bang smack next to the key DOH! it’s causing me no end of aggro wish they’d consulted with a touch typist in the design phase
A shame that all newer models of this type appear to have removed certain features than you have come to expect as standard in an expensive product from an established manufacturer.
Sharp screen, fast processor, speedy boot-up. But getting rid of the virus known as McAffee was extremely difficult.
Configuring to my liking took a long time to overcome all the things that Microsoft wants users to do. These problems are not the fault of the computer, but of Microsoft.
This computer is also about half the weight of the laptop that it replaced, which had a screen the same size, and of course a DVD player, which unsurprisingly this one does not have.
UK keyboard, good storage and memory. Recommended.
Ordered the Vivobook as a gift for my wife, who is very used to british
keyboards. Since Brexit, laptops with british kbd are increasingly hard to get
here in France, and also in neighbouring Switzerland (we are close to Geneva).
So far very happy with it, no problems.
Have had many laptops over the years. My last one died unexpectedly and this was the best I could afford but I have had quite a few problems with slow processing, white screens, unexpectedly closing, etc. (In fact, I did wonder if some of the Windows updates caused the problems). Running OK now. Not as much ram as I would like but that seems to be par for the course nowadays unless one can shell out a good amount.
Having said all that, I have had other ASUS laptops and they have all worked well and the customer service is good and the ‘My ASUS’ facility on the machine is excellent. I’d buy ASUS again.
I’m nit fussed that I got the different colour. The OLED screen has very good colour quality, however white text on a black background has a small RGB effect round it where the 3 pixels have to combine to make white. This is a problem with low pixel density OLED panels. Black text on white backgrounds and grey text on black backgrounds look just as good as on an IPS display. for a laptop without a discreet GPU it punches above the rest in it’s price bracket with a CPU that is more than enough for non intensive activities (you won’t be doing any heavy processing work or gaming on this though) and the screen is not something you’d expect on a budget friendly notebook. The RAM is enough but it’s nice to be able to put a 16GB SODIMM module in to get 24GB as 16 is becoming obsolete in the next couple years (8GB is soldered so the module in it is 8GB). It doesn’t get hot due to the lack of GOU but the grill on the bottom doesn’t have any mesh. Seeing straight through to the motherboard means that there’s no filter for the single cooling fan. This means that it’ll probably get clogged up with dust and pet hairs etc but at least it’s easy to clean without disassembly. Disassembly is easy though and there’s a few serviceable parts. I upgraded the wifi chip with one from my old laptop with no issue, the battery isn’t too hard to replace and the SSD is a full size M.2 but there’s only the single slot.
