My original ps4 controller not charging so I am looking for an alternative but cheap one and this one is decent alternative for that it has usb c and works almost same ad original
Got this for my son who needed a new controller for playing games on his PC. He has had cheap controllers in the past and they haven’t been great but he is really pleased with how this controller performs. He said that there is no delay with the button press and no drift on the control sticks, works really well.
This therefore gets a thumbs up from me and at 17.99 it won’t be breaking the bank to replace once it wears out.
Besides some styling options – this Bonacell wireless controller pretty much mirrors the original DualShock 4 controller in basic design and function.
For the basics – analogue sticks and trigger all feel ‘right’ – they all have a nice amount of resistance to them and are accurate. Face buttons and L1/R1 are pleasantly ‘springy’ for want of a better word! The face buttons – of which the manufacturers have bizarrely chosen not to label(!) take a little more pressure to activate than I’d like but they are at least ‘deliberate’.
The ‘Share’ button oddly doubles as a Turbo mode here – i.e. hold it down, press X (for example) – now X is rapidly triggered whenever you hold it down. Repeat the process to remove Turbo on the button you have chosen. The thing is – this is also going to trigger the ‘Share’ option on the PS4! A dedicated Turbo button would have made more sense.
The there’s the D-pad. I crossed my fingers on this one; I’ve never been a fan of the ‘split directions’ on the DS4 so I was hoping for something good here. Unfortunately with this one there’s no centre pivot point on plus shaped control – which means you can basically activate all cardinals at the same time. Such an easy issue to sort with a rounded bit of plastic on the mould. Oh well. I really enjoy shmups and fighting games that make use of the d-pad and here it’s pretty much a non-starter. If you’re just using the d-pad to select options in a game or navigate inventory screens etc. then this won’t be an issue.
I tested this initially on PS4 – all additional features worked fine. Motion controls were very accurate (Flower is my go to game for testing), controller audio works very well and is quite clear and the touchpad works just as well as the DS4 original (i.e. ‘kind of’ but it doesn’t matter as nothing really uses it!).
We have our original PSVR plugged into a PS5 here – and this controller works great with it. Some games rely on the light bar on the controller to work. I’ve tried a few that don’t actually register as a light bar but this one was fine and was again quite accurate (tested in a brief run on ‘In Death’).
I used this controller wired for my Windows test (separate cable as the supplied charging cable is quite short). Quake 2 on controller worked great and because this is D-Input the motion controls were picked up too.
It connected fine to my MacBook Air (where it is recognised as a DS4). Very little discernible latency and it worked well. However I generally use emulation on my Mac – which means old games on D-pad – which means this controller wasn’t great.
Bit of a crisis of conscience with this one. Really, the d-pad disappointment and the odd design choices knock this down a star for me. But as a replacement PS4 controller for most people – this is a really good buy at 19.99.
Performance is very good better than my other controller that broke. Very reasonable weight. Its design is so nice you can grip this controller properly without any issues. I play Fortnite on it and the motion is very good.
Purchased to use in my M50II and they work great. They also will hold a charge for days in my bag, possibly weeks… I never had the chance to test them long term.
This is good for the price used it with my eos m50.the only thing that I done like this that the battery life is very bad…..VERY VERY BAD.
