I’ve been using the Garmin HRM-Pro Plus for a few weeks now, and I’m really impressed. It provides accurate heart rate data and syncs seamlessly with my Garmin devices. I love the additional running dynamics it tracks, like stride length and ground contact time—these insights have definitely helped me improve my running technique. The strap is comfortable and stays in place, even during long runs, and the battery life is great so far. It’s a bit pricey, but you’re getting top-notch quality and features. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone serious about their training.

Bought to allow me calibration on treadmill. Works well, makes data collection far more accurate of running on treadmill. The HRM on garmin watch is also unreliable, poor connection. Strap never lets you down.

If you are serious about tracking your fitness, a chest strap is an essential bit of kit for exercising. While you may have a watch with a built in function, it won’t give you accurate results. Plus this model gives you useful extra info on things like running cadence so if good if you want to geek out or work on your running form. This works and is waterproof so great for running and swimming. Depending on offers at the time, you’ll pay anything between 70 and 100 for this. That’s on the pricey side IMO but my Garmin Tri heart strap gave up the ghost after about 3 years of moderate usage so I bought this to replace it. I paid the lower end of the scale, so if I get three years out of it I’ll consider it decent value.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Garmin HRM Pro Plus seamlessly connects to my Fenix watch and the Garmin app on my phone. It is both comfortable to wear and accurate.
Update: After a month of testing, my Garmin HRM Pro Plus, a heart rate monitor that connects effortlessly to my Fenix watch every single time, and the Garmin app is on my phone. It is still very comfortable to wear and provides accurate readings. I have been testing it extensively, and it is an excellent piece of equipment.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought this as I suspected Fitbit Charge was not picking up HR accurately. It wasn’t (though it is very close, on average) – this Garmin HRM did not pick up erroneous spikes in HR that the Charge does and produces a more stable, slightly more accurate log.

It’s comfortable to wear, cleans up fine and syncs to phone with no problems.

Golden Review Award: 37 From Our UsersBought to replace a very ancient Garmin HRM which was detachable and I had replaced the strap with third party options on a couple of occasions. This new one is the ultimate HRM if you’ve got a Garmin and Amazon prices are competitive. It’s wider than my old one and more comfortable as a result. However the unit is not detachable so if the elastic goes or starts to smell, then you’ll need to replace the whole thing which is a shame. That said, it seems very robust and, despite my scepticism, following the guidelines by rinsing under the tap after each use and in mild detergent every 7 days seems pretty effective and there is no smell whatsoever.

The device needs to be registered as a device in Garmin Connect which means that it monitors battery life and delivers any software upgrades. You also pair it with your device and I’ve had rock solid automatic connections whenever I’ve launched an activity, and it seamlessly disconnects and reverts to the wrist based HR when I come out – I often had to manually pair the old one on each occasion so that’s a big improvement.

In addition to HR, it also captures Running Dynamics so if you’ve got an older watch that doesn’t have this natively, you’ll see Stride Length, Ground Contact Time, Vertical Oscillation, etc in your Garmin Connect record. It also captures Left/Right balance which watches don’t do and that is a useful metric. Although the fact that I get more wear on the left heel of my shoes would also tell me the same thing, but only after a few hundred miles of running and possible injury risk! Although all this information is there for any brand of watch, in practice only Garmin devices actually display it. It may well justify the high price of the HRM Pro+, but really only if you have a Garmin product. Although I’ve not tested it, it is also capable of storing HR data and then downloading it to the watch later – for example if you are swimming. It can also help with treadmill running where you can’t use GPS to estimate distance and speed.

So in summary, this is one of the most expensive HRMs out there, but worth it if you want the extra features and you have a Garmin. Otherwise, save some money and look elsewhere.
