Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI didn’t want to go to the extra expense (eg. 50) of replacing the stock Dell 275W PSU in a 2013 Dell Optiplex Mini Tower case and I didn’t need a faster GPU such as RX6600/RTX3060, so I bought this 6GB RTX 3050 from Amazon.

Only minor issue I had was I couldn’t close the latch. I used a hack saw and carefully cut a notch out of one corner of the latching tab.

I didn’t find the two fans to be particularly loud when they needed to spin up.

Reviewers criticise this 6GB RTX 3050 for being around 20% slower than the regular 8GB RTX 3050, but the 6GB card is unique because it is powered directly from the PCIe bus, and draws no more than 75 watts. There is no 6/8 pin power connector on the card.

If you are specifically considering pcie bus powered gfx cards such as the 2022 AMD RX6400, 2023 Intel Arc 310/380, and older non-overclocked GTX1650 and GTX1050 Ti cards, then you will find the 2024 RTX 3050 6GB is faster than any of these gpus.

At the time I bought this full-height RTX 3050 6GB for discounted 140 quid, it was not much more than a new RX6400. The cost of a new PSU and 30+% faster RX6600 would probably have cost around 250 quid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice PCIe bus powered graphics card. Old Dell case needed slight mod for card to fit.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersDon’t let anyone tell you this is a bad GPU, it’s an excellent GPU.

However it only makes sense as a Low Profile card for when you’re fitting it in a small form factor case. It’s pretty capable for gaming when coupled with a RYZEN 5 Gen 3 on a B550 motherboard or even a B450.

Another GPU worth considering is the Low Profile Intel A380 which is still capable but less powerful and a lot cheaper, probably better value if it’s powerful enough for you.

If you’re building a budget PC then you get better value if you don’t go low profile because then you have a much wider range of GPUs to chose from. However this card might be good in a SFF Dell desktop as long as it’s fairly decent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Low profile for SFF cases

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe NVIDIA 3060 made by Gigabyte is good money for value. Playing Space Engineers I see some subtle video artefacts on screen that would be unacceptable if I was doing video production etc, but the damage effects and atmospheric rendering is lovely. For my casual gaming purposes it is great value for money. Card also gives access to NVIDIA’s video recording facilities (last 20 minutes of game play, etc.), which is great.
