One of these connectors replaced a similar-looking brass connector that came with a 30m garden hose and was leaking. Even though this connector looks similar, it feels sturdier and heavier. Most importantly, it does not leak water, so I can use my garden hose again.
Perfect fit on my existing 1/2″ hose pipe and a robust upgrade to plastic connectors. The connector attaches to the hose via a compression fitting and does not leak when pressurised. I’ve had brass connectors before, and these feel much better quality and are fairly weighty by comparison. The advantage of brass connectors in my experience is that they won’t crack or go brittle with age. Also, they’re far more resistant to damage. The connector is universal and attaches perfectly to the variety of hose heads and machinery that I have. I am of the opinion that this set of four represents great value for money.
I got these hose connectors to replace some plastic ones I’ve had for years that have started to go brittle and leak.
Being brass, these connectors feel much more robust than the plastic ones they’re replacing.
They are easy to fit to the hosepipe, and the serrations down the length of each connector provides you with good grip for tightening the connector onto the hose.
They interface perfectly with my existing plastic tap connector – though I will be replacing this with a brass one soon.
They operate like any hose quick connector I’ve used before: pull the end toward the hose to free the connector. My only slight niggle is that the longitudinal serrations on the sleeve don’t provide any grip for this operation, so it can be a bit tricky if your hands are wet.
My only other slight negative comment is that none of these brass connectors have the ability to stop the flow of water once disconnected, unlike the plastic ones they’re replacing. This means you need to turn off the water and relieve the pressure in the hose before disconnecting or you’ll get wet.
Other than those minor points, 10 (at the time of ordering) for four connectors that feel like they will last years is great value, in my opinion.
The feel and look of these connectors is equalled by their performance.
Very pleased with this set of connectors as I have a few old-style connectors on my hoses that have seen better days.
These connectors are easy to fit (Tip — put the hose in a mug of very warm/hot water to make it easier to work with and ensure the best fit on these hose connectors)
Once on the hose, they click onto the Hoselock style tap fitting well and do not leak.
Note – the thicker the hose the harder these are to fit – you may need mole grips or adjustable grips to tighten the connector onto the hose fully if you are using a reinforced hose.
Easy on/off connect/disconnect means you can have different hoses or attachments swapped in a jiffy.
I did not find any lowering of water volume or pressure when using these, and I feel they should fare better in the winter when we have sharp frosts or prolonged cold spells
It is useful that the crown adapter that grips the hose is separate, allowing easy positioning. It is not so great that this is not a push-fit, so that you actively have to pull the ring down to be able to fit the end on the tap (I am so used to this with Hozelock that it took me a while to work out why I couldn’t make the connector connect!).
It doesn’t seem to be any more water-tight than the normal plastic versions, but at least the price is not astronomical.
