I love that this is an Axolotl and not your over used cat/dog character. My daughter is almost 4 and loves it, loves it’s reactions to the food especially to the jalapeno and socks. It’s a really fun, interractive toy with plenty of educational features. We use rechargeable batteries for it, but in this day and age it would be lovely to see more rechargeable toys. That aside, it’s a well made toy from a top brand and sadly the price seems a bit high because of it, but price is a personal thing so will not influence my star rating.

This is such a great toy, it is so much fun to watch the kids playing with it and teaches colours, food and some emotions.

The Axolotl has movents sensor in the front and opened his mouth and sticks out his tounge ready for the food. You put this on his tounge and the tounge retracts and then can respond in many ways, like spitting it back out followed by a statement on the colour, taste and texture.

It is a great toy and learning aid and is really well built as you would expect by VTech

This VTech Tasty Treats Axolotl is very cute and lots of fun.

There are eight discs to feed the axolotl which are mostly food but there are some sillier items like smelly socks. When the disc is placed near its mouth it recognises it and opens his mouth sticking his tongue out for the disc to be placed on top. The tongue goes in quite quickly but even if it gets momentarily stuck it doesn’t seem to negatively impact the functioning of the toy.

Once the disc is inside the axolotl he makes some funny and amusing expressions before spitting it out. This is our favourite part of the toy as it is so fun to see such realistic reactions for a plastic toy. Our favourite is when he eats the ice cream or the smelly sock.

The toy also has some music that are nice and it sometimes asks questions with the correct disk to be inserted into the mouth. This is a good way to help children learn from the toy about things like colours.

This is a fantastic toy, it’s so different than anything I’ve seen before and I’d highly recommend it.

I recently received this toy, and it has quickly become one of their favorite toys. The interactive features are fantastic, and it responds with fun reactions that keep my child engaged.
The toy comes with eight pretend snacks, which not only promotes imaginative play but also helps teach my child about different foods. The educational songs and phrases are catchy and informative, making learning fun without feeling forced. I love how it encourages creativity while introducing basic concepts like colors and numbers.
One minor drawback is that it requires batteries, and I wish it had a rechargeable option. Also, some of the sounds can be a bit repetitive after a while, but my child doesn’t seem to mind.
Overall this toy is a delightful, educational toy that keeps my toddler entertained while fostering learning. I highly recommend it as a gift for young children!

My child’s favorite activity is “feeding” the axolotl its pretend snacks. One afternoon, they spent nearly an hour feeding the toy each snack in different orders, absolutely delighted by the unique reactions and sounds it made. This repetitive play is great because it helps with their fine motor skills and teaches cause and effect.

The axolotl has really sparked their imagination too. Inspired by the toy, my child often pretends to run a pet feeding station. They invite their stuffed animals to join the feeding session, which is fantastic for practicing social interaction and imaginative play. This role-playing not only entertains them but also encourages empathy and nurturing behaviors.

The toy’s songs and phrases have been a big hit. My child now enthusiastically identifies the colors of the snacks and counts them aloud before feeding them to the axolotl.

Vtech is a very well known brand, so was excited to try this one out with my 4 year old niece. I’ve mainly deducted stars due to the price, so I’ll start with the positives.

This is a very cute looking lizard/gecko? That will certainly entice young children to play with it. Comes with little disks with different food pictures on it. It responds to the child when they place the snack in its mouth- this definitely helps with fine motor skills as well as learning different food groups.

It sings and interacts with the child, as well as producing different colours. My nieces favourite is definitely when it sticks its tongue out at you.

Has a selection of songs as well as responding to being ‘petted.’

It states 3 years plus but my niece (age 4) almost felt a touch old for this? I’m wondering if it’s aimed more for younger children under supervision (due to the disks)?

Batteries required but apart from that it’s really straightforward. What I will say is it’s over 30 mark which feels really overpriced for the item- it would deter me from picking it off the shelf.

Price aside this is a fun, educational toy from a well known/respected children brand. If reduced in price then would be happy to recommend.
