We found a couple of old family slides, but we didn’t have a viewer or proyector. So we found out thi easy to install and use slider. A simple design that looks cool and is portable. The quality is great, great magnification performance and good enough brightness and quality of the image. Recommended
MANY years ago when I first started with photography, buying film and then having it processed was too expensive for us. By switching to slides, you saved a step in processing and so it was cheaper. Only downside is you then needed a projector to view the slides. At that time I bought a now very archaic version of this slide projector which worked fine for years to look at my growing collection of tiny little 35mm slides.
But time and tech marches on and this new projector is so much better than my original one. The lens is much improved and gives a brighter, and as far as I can tell, undistorted view of your slides. The power source can be either batteries (included) or USB for which a power cable is included (if you want to use a power block, you are on your own for that).
There is a power button on the side of the projector to turn the light on, and another button on the same side that releases the slide you are viewing and allows it to slide gracefully into a tray at the bottom of the projector. This tray can hold many slides so you can view and eject pretty much an entire roll of slides without pausing. Slides are inserted one at a time manually in a slot at the top of the unit, the slot is in a slight recess so that it is easy to hit it without really looking away from the screen.
The magnification is fixed, but that is to be expected as this is really meant to allow a glimpse of your slides in a larger format without having to hold them up to a white wall to see. I find the size to be good for viewing by one or two people at a time, and of course you can pass the projector around for larger groups.
I’ve got TONS of slides I’ve not been able to view or share with the family for a long time, until now. Loving this.
This is perfect for going through old slides and negatives. It is super inexpensive, and I love that I can use batteries or a power plug. I am using batteries so that I can place it anywhere and take it with me and not need to be near external power. It is compact and lightweight, so it literally fits in a bag/backpack. It is really helpful to sort slides for storage and labeling without having to use a projector or trying to figure out a way to see them. This is an awesome item for going back and looking at older stored memories.
It comes with 4AA batteries (yay!) but my unit won’t operate on batteries (boo!). I tried both the batteries it came with and 4 brand new batteries of my own. I carefully placed them in the exact direction listed on the compartment, and also tried several other variations in case the direction arrows were printed wrong. Nothing. But, the unit works perfectly when plugged into an outlet… but that brings up another pain point. The unit doesn’t use a common power port size like a USB C, it uses a USB cable with a round power connector. That means you have to use the cable supplied by the manufacturer, but that cable is WAY too short to be practical. The battery terminals have an odd shape, so while I doubt all of them are broken – I have a feeling this is a design flaw that impacts a lot of units. With the battery issue and the stupid short power cable, I have to deduct a star. (Really it should be 2 stars but the rest of the features just work so well and it is priced so low, I just can’t fairly rate it less than 4 stars overall.)
If you can get pass the power issue, the unit itself works really well and is thoughtfully designed. The LED light is very bright but not overpowering. The fact that you can use either negatives or slides if a nice extra. The mechanism for ejecting slides into a little tray underneath is also a nice touch if you are going through several.
I also found that if you have the unit powered on without a slide inserted, you can use the bright light to hold slides up to the screen and see the image well enough to quickly sort through slides to find the one(s) you want to put into the viewer. This is MUCH easier than holding the slide up to a light on the ceiling. You also have to insert the slides backwards for the images to appear in the correct orientation. This makes sense though – when you use a projector you normally stand behind it and see an image reflected off a screen and back to you. In this case, you are looking into the “projector” and seeing the image before it is reflected back to you on a screen. It doesn’t take long at all to get the hang of it.
The Quality Control on the power issue definitely needs to be addressed. But otherwise, this is a well-designed and well-made machine at a great value.
There is nothing fancy about this slide/ negative viewer, and that’s just what I wanted. I was looking for a backlit lightbox to make it easier to go through my thousands of negatives for a scanning project. This unit does that idea one better by providing 3x magnification, which is a big help with my aging eyes.
In essence, it’s a box with a magnifier, an LED backlight, and slots for inserting negative strips or 35mm slides. Nothing mechanical.
The light is powered by batteries (which, amazingly, are supplied) or alternatively with a USB powered cable. Unfortunately, the other end of that cable is not the currently ubiquitous USB-C, but rather a DC jack. Not that there is anything wrong with the jack, but in this day and age, USB-C has become the de facto standard for powering low voltage electronics, and I would guess most of us already have cables galore that we can use, whereas this unit will require its own cable for really no good reason.
The sooner all manufacturers get with the program and use USB-C, the better off we’ll all be. I’m not removing a star for that, but this should be considered for the next revision of this product.
I inherited all of my mother’s 35mm slides. All I had to view them was an old hand held viewer which wasn’t too easy to use. This viewer is great to view them. It is very easy to put them in the back, view them clearly and then pop them out the front. Makes viewing so much easier! It also has another slot for film negatives, that wasn’t as easy to use, although not too bad. It was not as easy to slide them through, sometimes they got stuck but they were easily maneuvered out. I probably wouldn’t use this feature too much anyway because I don’t really use negatives anymore and they are hard to see what is on them.
This viewer can be plugged in or used with AA batteries which they also included! So far I have used it plugged in, but the batteries would be handy if you were not near an outlet.
I’m one of those people who has held on to his slide collection for decades. I had many of my old slides converted to digital versions for use in PowerPoint presentations, but they just don’t have the definition of the original slides. I still do an occasional presentation using my slides and a Kodak slide projector and I enjoy the audience response to the “click” of each slide changing.
This slide viewer makes it easy to organize individual slides for group presentations or even to show selected slides to one other person. The 3x magnification is adequate for those purposes. The slide viewer operates on 4 AA batteries, which are included. That is rare for many products these days. The light can also be powered with a wall plug, which is not included, however. The viewer has the capacity to view developed photo negatives, though I won’t be using it for that.
The accompanying instructions are clear and helpful and the viewer comes well-packed in a cardboard box, which is suitable for storing the viewer when not in use. It is hard to find viewers like this in the era of digital photography and smartphones. But I am glad I found it on Amazon. It may even encourage me to dust off my 35mm camera and shoot some more Kodachrome film. Yes, it is still available!
I ordered this viewer to help my mother go through some old family slides she inherited from the good old days
Rather than place all the slides into a large projector or try to squint to see them, this is a great option. The viewer is easy to use and to cycle slides. The magnification is decent and the light is bright enough to get good clarity. I like that is can be plugged in or use batteries to make it fully portable.
It’s a pretty simple device but works well. Possibly overpriced for what it is, but not excessive. To sort through old memories, worth the investment. I would recommend
Back long ago, far longer than it seems, the big debate when it came to medium of choice was film (negatives) or slides. One required that prints be made to share with friends or family, the other required a viewer or projection.
It might be older technology, but slightly updated from its old ancestor the viewer works just fine. An LED light ensures proper brightness to see the image in all its glory. Slides simply drop in from the back, and are quickly removed by a push of a button. Catcher holds roughly 15-17 slides (thicker frames cause the variations). While package says a external power adapter can be used, the enclosed USB cord is the modern update and works nicely.
NOTE: this isn’t a scanner. If you want to share your old memories online, you’ll need to purchase accordingly.
But I suspect everyone (or their parents/grandparents) has these old slide memories. And its good to see them once again.
Recommendation: works well, can be powered by AA / USB (included), and excellent value if needed.
