Took a little bit of time getting used to these, managed to nearly fall over a few times, but they’re great when you get used to them, the straps provide a good level of adjustability and keep you stable on them even with big or small shoes.
Arrived quickly with Amazon Prime.
I have different tools to try and aerate my lawn, but these required downward pressure through a handle, and I just gave up on them as it hardly touched the surface. But spotted these, such an easy design that achieves the results needed.
Putting them on was the hardest bit. I found that the hook and eye of the Velcro would catch the ring and maybe if teh stictchig was right on the edge then it would not happen. In the end I did find it easier to fit them to my shoe and then put my shoe on as my foot would just simply slip into my shoe once the Aerator was fitted.
When you walk in them it is like walking through thick mud as it feels like suction each time you lift a foot, but this can only be expected as the pins are driven in and drawn out of the lawn. Once you get going though it becomes easy and I completed my hole lawn in a matter of minutes.
Does what I expected it to do with little effort. Easy design and can’t wait to see the results to my lawn.
These are a clever idea
Put on your normal shoes / boots and strap them into the these
You basically just walk around to great air holes in the lawn
Can be hard going so is also a good workout!!
Not quite seeing the results in the lawn yet but this is a recognised method for improving the lawn so I’m optimistic
Well made and sturdy.
I’m impressed with these!
They do need to be used properly though. You need to attach them to a stout boot like a walking boot, that has some structure and support. A wellie is no good, and neither are trainers.
This is because the nails stick deep into the soil, and try to pull the overshoe off when you lift your foot. Wellies have no structural support, so they just bend and the overshoe tries to fall off.
Strapping to an appropriate boot is easy enough. I highly recommend getting everything ready first, walking to the target lawn and THEN donning the overshoes last. It is not safe to walk on hard surfaces in these things.
On the lawn, they are great. I weigh around 13 stone, so there’s plenty of mass to push the nails down into the soil. Be careful if you have stones in your soil, and NEVER walk backwards. It’s actually best not to ‘walk’ as such – these work best if you use a vertical stomping motion to lift and lower your feet straight up and down. It looks ridiculous, but it works. It’s also great exercise. If you push the lawn mower around as you stomp, you can do two jobs AND get a workout, all at once!
Even with my bulk stomping around the lawn, the overshoes held up perfectly. I also have an identical pair in green which I reviewed separately. I used those to break up the newly-dug soil clumps on my allotment, which had been neglected by the previous occupant. Even that misuse failed to damage them. These things are impressively tough.
These are just great. I found my hi top hiking boots worked best with them and thanks so much to the person who suggested walking in them behind a mower. My mower is self propelled and once you start you just have to keep up and stop overthinking, good work out on my small front garden, waiting for showers to pass to tackle my back garden. In the autumn I will use these as preparation for lawn reseeding and will use them every time I cut the grass. Ps my soil is clay, it is pretty wet at the moment and looking forward to trying these when it bakes hard, if it ever does this year! So much easier than using a fork but, not surprisingly, the holes are alot shallower but its a trade off between that and a back breaking manual task which I rarely take on now
The HSLighting Lawn Aerator Shoes with Hook & Loop Straps are an absolute game-changer for anyone serious about maintaining a healthy lawn. I was skeptical at first, but these exceeded all my expectations!
What impressed me the most is how easy these aerator shoes are to put on and take off. The design with the hook & loop straps is brilliant! No more fumbling with complicated buckles—these strap on in seconds. It’s a simple and convenient way to aerate your lawn without needing any bulky, expensive equipment.
Another major perk is that they are truly “one size fits all.” My feet are a size 9 but thanks to the adjustable straps, i found i had no issues at all.
The quality is top-notch! The sturdy plastic base with excellent heel support makes walking around with these aerators comfortable. The 13 metal spikes per sandal penetrate the soil effortlessly, ensuring that air, water, and nutrients reach deep into the grass roots.
I was worried about slipping when using these on damp grass, but the anti-slip pads on the bottom work like a charm. I felt secure even on slightly wet surfaces, which is a huge plus during spring when the ground is often damp.
These shoes are built to last. The heavy-duty construction feels reliable, and they seem like they’ll hold up well over time. After a few uses, I can already see my lawn looking greener and healthier.
Overall, if you’re looking for a hassle-free, effective, and affordable way to aerate your lawn, I highly recommend the HSLighting Lawn Aerator Shoes. They’ve made lawn care easier and more efficient, and I love the results!
The Velcro straps are more than long enough to accommodate big boots, and you can move the front strap back one hole if you have smaller feet, and a spanner is supplied to do this. You need to do the straps up as tight as possible to provide stability. I found it easier to sink my heel into the ground first, then rock forwards through to my toes, which makes all the spikes sink in. It took a few minutes to get proper balance to stop wobbling from side to side.
They make you feel like you are walking in thick mud, so actually really good exercise. I consider these far more fun than using a frame aerator, which is one of the jobs I like least in the garden, but not anymore. The soles are thick, slightly flexible plastic, and measure 29cm long (from inside the heel clip), and 13cm across the front foot section. I would strongly recommend only putting them on once you are on the lawn!
The only negative is where the Velcro changes from hook to eye half way down the inside of the straps, the edges haven’t been sewn right to the end so the metal buckle gets a bit stuck on the unattached end of the Velcro when trying to undo for putting them on, so I had to wiggle the straps around to get past this. Apart from this, I like these, you do look a bit daft, but they are good exercise and so much more fun than using a frame aerator or a fork. Recommended.
These are not shoes, rather they are additions to your footwear of choice. They attach using three straps secured by Velcro. They are a little bit fiddly to get on, I found that completely unthreading the straps first was easiest.
I am a size 11 and they fit OK over my trainers. I made the mistake of putting these on whilst sat at my patio and the spikes did leave some marks as I walked, for this reason I strongly recommend on walking on the grass with these.
Walking on the grass was generally fine, I found that in areas where the soil was moister it was more difficult to lift my foot up and on one occasion the Velcro strap came undone. I was previously using a garden fork to aerate my lawn but this is a quick way to get the coverage I want and I can do it whilst cutting the grass.
They come with a spanner which enables you to tighten the spikes should they become loose.
Yes you’ve read that right, these are some working lawn aerators. They work by punching holes into your lawn creating drain holes where the water will reach the soil deep below the grass. This can also help promote new growth where the soil has dried out on top.
So how do they work? They’re like another sole that you put on beneath your shoes, the soles are large and are made from a semi flexible plastic, which allows you to move around the lawn with them on. There are three large velcro straps that you can attach to your shoes, with a notch where you can feed the velcro through if you have smaller size feet or if you want to attach your own velcro strap.
There is a lip on the heel which when tightened properly, will prevent the sole from slipping from your shoes.
The nails are sharp but are also thick and strong, it would be good practice to only put them on outside on the lawn where if you walk on hard surfaces this can be a bit tricky. Alternatively if you are unsure of these things, wear one on your good leg and give it a go around the lawn. The top head of the nail is threaded to a bolt and so will not go through your shoes.
The experience is something like walking in deep snow, there is some resistance when you’re lifting your foot but otherwise it should not stop you from moving about or getting stuck.
Time will tell how well these will work, but they do offer a bit of additional exercise . Overall a good, working product.
