American Pie [25th Anniversary Deluxe Collectors Edition

I was a lucky lad in that I was a teenager in the late ’90s. It made films like American Pie absolutely perfect for me at the time. We watched the heck out of it back then and loved every second of it. But that was a long time ago and I haven’t seen it in a good twenty years. Now, with my son being of that age. It felt like the perfect time to find a copy and show him American Pie!

Going back to this movie after so long was not only really refreshing but made me feel very old. The film’s soundtrack for example is quite dated but it was fun seeing all that old technology we all loved back then. The humour on the other hand, that has aged wonderfully. I’ve grown so tired of hearing that lame MCU quick quip style humour of recent times. I’m also sick to my back teeth of politically correct humour. There’s no edge to it and it really makes me appreciate this movie in a way we just couldn’t back then. Everything is about sex, getting in there and doing the dirty. It’s simple, it’s effective and it’s just not something we get anymore. At least, not with this much care and talent behind it.

I thought the movie was very well paced. It didn’t waste a beat with the jokes and it just churned out so many classics one after the other. The acting is for the most part really good. Sean William Scott plays the perfect party man. He’s great on screen as is Jason Biggs in all his dorkiness. I still maintain Eugene Levy as Jim’s Dad totally steals the show. He’s a sweet old man who’s clearly a bit of a horny old toad. He still steals every scene he’s in. We could go into spoiler territory and talk about it in more detail. But either someone would complain or I may get removed from Amazon. So, we won’t do that.

This Blu-ray only cost me a whopping 2.80 and honestly, it’s one of the best buy’s I’ve made this year. We had an absolute blast watching this film and I don’t even mean it from a nostalgic point of view. This movie has held up well and it was great to see something so refreshing without the awful smug dystopian box ticking non sense that plagues modern cinema. Well worth every penny!
