I’ve been using this keyboard for about three months now – I wanted to spend some proper time with it before writing my review. In the box you get the keyboard, a manual, a cable, and a keycap puller in case you wish to switch around the keys or the switches. The presentation is fantastic – it would definitely make for a good gift.
This keyboard can be used with bluetooth – I tend to prefer wired components, but I did test out the bluetooth responsiveness and it was good.
The lights are incredibly bright; you can adjust this if you’d like, in addition to several differents kinds of light patterns. The switches sound great, too; I love a lound sounding mechanical keyboard, and this one certainly delivers! You don’t need too much pressure to type or anything. I use my pc for gaming primarily, and I’ve not had any issues swapping over to play with this keyboard.
The gradient on the keys looks amazing, too. This keyboard looks fantastic on my desk and I really appreciate the smaller size. It took me a little while to get used to, as I came from an 100% keyboard, but I’ve grown to really love this one. I’d absolutely recommend, especially for someone wanting a mechanical keyboard on a budget!
The keyboards are just so creamy, the noise is almost like music to my ears. Honestly i dont think you can get a keyboard better than this. It feels much better than its worth, honestly if your looking for a keyboard, stop here and buy this one.
Quality: 10/10
Size: perfect if your low on space 10/10
Value for money: insanely good 10/10
Lighting: amazing
Wasn’t 100% sure about this keyboard at first, wasn’t sure of the legitimacy of the other reviews so decided to roll the dice on it. Damn. Glad I did. Nice satisfying thoc when you type, not too much but a nice amount. Solid frame and solid keycaps too, which I wasn’t expecting. I’d recommend for this price too. Very satisfied!
The first thing that strikes you about this keyboard is the fact that the letters are not displayed on the top face of the key, they are actually on the front face and are etched out of the plastic cover so the LED shines through them. This does mean that oils from your fingers will not erode the top of the key and spoil the look of the keyboard. For me this isn’t an issue as although I look at the keyboard when I type I don’t actually need to it is just force of habit and almost a comfort thing. If you are more “hunt and peck” in your typing then this could be a problem – or an opportunity to learn better typing habits.
Comes with a decent length of USB-A to USB-C cable as this can be used via bluetooth (comes with the dongle inserted in to the rear of the keyboard) but will need to be charged. You can use this tethered via the cable and, to be honest, this is my preferred option. The included instruction leaflet does explain what the various slider switches do and in what scenarios you should use them – personally I went with the default settings it came set to and it worked absolutely fine with my set up.
The keys are truly mechanical instead of being in the style of which made me happy. I love a clacky key as I am old and learnt to type before there were even electric typewriters in general office use let alone home computers. The noise is not too loud and the attached video is a clear representation of it and I haven’t messed with sound levels at all.
There are a lot of light options available for the LED backlight and these are accessed via the knob at the top right of the keyboard. There don’t seem to be any statics which could be a problem if being used for long periods of time as it could well become vaguely annoying.
Nice and compact because it doesn’t have a side number pad and the arrow keys are squinched in to the right hand side.
Generally a good, durable feeling keyboard that is ideal for my set up but I am going to miss the side number pad.
This is a fantastic little 75% mechanical keyboard for the asking price.
The keys are nice and clicky with great feedback when pressed.
They are responsive, no lag when playing action heavy games.
Has a wonderful backlight.
Good solid build and works great wired and wirelessly.
Only gripe- USA layout on the keyboard, but can either be updated in software to match, or you could get some new keys with correct layout.
This keyboard is designed for gaming enthusiasts and offers a range of features to enhance the gaming experience. It has a modern style with a black gradient color that gives it a sleek and distinctive look.
The keycaps of this keyboard are made from high-quality PBT material. This ensures that the characters on the keycaps remain vibrant and do not wear out easily, even with intense use. The keycaps are side-printed, which means the print is on the side of the keys rather than the top, contributing to the keyboard’s unique aesthetic.
One of the standout features of the X85 is its tri-mode connectivity. It can connect via Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4Ghz wireless, and USB-C, making it versatile and convenient for different setups. You can connect up to three devices simultaneously via Bluetooth, and switching between them is straightforward.
The keyboard is equipped with a large 5000mAh battery. This high-capacity battery, combined with the keyboard’s auto-sleep power-saving technology, ensures a long life and stable connection. You won’t have to worry about frequent charging, which is a significant advantage for any wireless device.
The X85 also boasts a five-layer padding and gasket mount design. This includes layers of PORON foam, IXPE switch pad, PET sound enhancement pad, and a bottom silicone pad. These layers work together to absorb sound and shock, reducing hollow noise and providing a soft, flexible feel with a pleasant restoring force when pressed.
Another feature is the multi-functionality knob located on the keyboard. This knob allows you to control the computer volume and keyboard backlight quickly. With a simple press or turn, you can adjust the light intensity or sound volume, switch between light and sound modes, or play and mute the audio.
For those who like to customize their gaming experience, the hot-swappable custom switches are a great addition. The keyboard’s PCB can accommodate various 3-pin mechanical switches, allowing you to personalize your keyboard to match your preferences and enjoy different tactile sensations during gameplay.
Lastly, the keyboard supports 100% anti-ghosting, which is essential for gamers. This means that every keypress is registered independently, no matter how many keys are pressed simultaneously. It ensures fast and lag-free triggering, which can be the difference between victory and defeat in a game.
When comparing a gaming keyboard like the ATTACK SHARK X85 Gasket Mechanical Keyboard to a standard keyboard, there are several differences that specifically cater to the gaming experience:
Mechanical Switches: Gaming keyboards typically use mechanical switches which are more durable and responsive than the membrane switches found in most standard keyboards. Mechanical switches provide a better tactile feedback and faster actuation, which means they register key presses more quickly. This can be crucial in gaming where every millisecond counts.
N-Key Rollover (NKRO): This gaming keyboard feature NKRO which allows multiple keys to be registered at the same time. This is essential for gamers who need to perform complex key combinations without any ghosting, where key presses could otherwise go unregistered.
Macro Keys: This gaming keyboard come with additional keys that can be programmed for specific functions or macros. These can be used to execute complex in-game actions with a single key press, providing an advantage in gameplay.
Build Quality: This Gaming keyboard is built to withstand long gaming sessions and often have a sturdier build compared to standard keyboards. They are designed to handle the rapid and forceful key presses that occur during intense gaming.
Aesthetics: This Gaming keyboard have a more aggressive design with RGB lighting and other aesthetic features that appeal to gamers.
Additional Features: The X85, offer features such as tri-mode connectivity, large capacity batteries for wireless use, and multimedia controls which are not commonly found on standard keyboards.
Price: Due to these enhanced features, gaming keyboards are generally more expensive than standard keyboards.
These differences contribute to a gaming keyboard’s ability to provide a more responsive, customizable, and durable tool for gaming compared to standard keyboards.
I’d never used a mechanical keyboard prior to this, although they seem to be all the rage these days. I hadn’t really understood why until now.
There is something so much more satisfying about using this, as opposed to my laptop keyboard. The keys feel nice and chunky, but equally very light to the touch. You don’t have to apply much pressure at all, and it certainly seems to help with the RSI I get in my fingers.
The keyboard looks great. You can switch between the light colours, brightness and movement patterns using the function key combined with various others. The wheel in the top right can be used to turn the lights off and on, and also doubles as a volume control. You also get a spare set of keys (not an entire set, just the coloured ones), in case you fancy throwing a bit of purple into the mix, as well as a tool to help you do this.
As well as having a USB dongle you can use for pairing, if your computer has built-in Bluetooth, you can connect directly via that.
Another nice little touch is that if you press function and alt at any time, the number keys will light up to tell you how much battery charge is left. The keyboard can be charged at any time via the USB-C socket at the back.
There are only two minor grievances I have with this keyboard. The first is that there is no separate number pad on the right hand side. This isn’t much of an issue, as you still have the row of numbers above, but it would have been handy. The second is that the keyboard layout is the US version. That is to say that the @ symbol is above the number 2, and the speech marks above the apostrophe. You therefore just have to remember to ignore what’s printed on these keys, as it should be the opposite way around on UK keyboards.
In short, minor issues aside, I’ve been converted. It took me an hour or so before I was sure I preferred using this, but it now feels far more comfortable to the touch, and this keyboard feels like a really good quality piece of kit.
