The ‘Biling Pond Filter Pumps Koi Pond Filter Box with 2400 L/H 40W Water Pump, Pond Water Filter’ is a decent item as long as you are realistic with what you are going to use it for.
I don’t keep Koi but do have a water feature in my garden, unfortunately my garden is like a warzone at the moment due to a wall coming down.
Everything comes in the small sized box and all arrives housed within the filter/water reservoir itself. There are some filter balls and 3 different heads for the pump which are smooth umbrella effect, a single sprinkler and a double sprinkler.
Everything is fairly easy to assemble, in the name of fairness I tested this in my kitchen sink – which are not ideal settings for a pump. With a limited feed of water the umbrella effect was actually decent. I did try the double sprinkler head but the less said about that the better. Suffice to say that the double sprinkler works flawlessly. I set this up via an RCD and tested in my bath for 2 hours (without any heads on) noise level is acceptable and the pump worked fine for the test.
Filtration is probably ok – I would probably be fine with a few goldfish to see how they cope but not sure I would trust thousands of ‘s of fish to this filtration – however I would use it as a supplemental filter and use an easily accessible external pond filter for main filtration. Lead length of 1.7m is not an issue for me as I have a power supply behind my water feature (well I did before a wall fell on it) though I will be changing the fuse to a lower amp.
A price of 69.99 less 10% is not bad at all for a dedicated pump/water feature with a flow rate of around 2400lph and with a filter as well. Decent filters are expensive, pond fountains with a decent flow rate are also not cheap – combined units more so.
Really good pump and is doing a perfect job in my 2000L duck pond. Dofferent heads give off different effects and look really good and is doing a grand job of keeping my pomp’s water clean and healthy. No concerns and impressed with this item. Does the job intended really well!
The Biling Pond Filter Pump is an excellent choice for maintaining a clean and healthy pond environment, especially for koi ponds. With a powerful 2400 L/H 40W water pump, it efficiently circulates and filters water, keeping it clear and oxygenated for fish and plants. Designed for ponds up to 3,000L, it’s suitable for small to medium-sized ponds. The inclusion of three fountain heads adds aesthetic appeal, allowing you to customize the look of your water feature. Easy to install and operate, this filter pump combines performance with convenience, making it a reliable option for pond owners who want to enhance their outdoor space.
I don’t know much about pumps and filters for ponds so I was looking for something that was easy to install, produced a good flow of water and filtered it at the same time, this Koi pond filter with water pump by Biling seemed to offer all of that at a reasonable price.
On opening the box I found everything packed neatly inside of the filtration box – plastic tubing , fountain heads, foam filters, filtration balls and the electric cable which, unfortunately is way too short at 1.7 metres.
Anyway, the instructions for setting up the pump and filter are quite easy to follow and the whole thing can be ready to use in about ten minutes. It is quite a powerful little pump compared to our existing solar powered one and it’s handy to have the filtration system too. My only complaint would be that it could have done with a longer electrical lead, fortunately our pond is not very big so it was just about long enough to reach the side but it did require an extension lead from there on to reach the mains electric socket in our outhouse.
As I said at the beginning I know very little about pumps and filters but this one seems to do a good job and we’re quite happy with it so far so I am happy to recommend it.
I ordered this to use in my sisters pond, but unfortunately it’s not suitable as I didn’t realise how deep her pond was (it’s about 6 feet) Thought a pump with a water feature would be nice, but as novices we are struggling as the lead is very short (I don’t want to use an extension lead) and doesn’t reac her outdoor power supply. However, I will say that it contains good clear instructions for people who have experience in fitting these but unfortunately it’s not us!
Would I recommend? The pump and fountain (lots of attachments to choose from) themselves look fine (clearly not an expensive pump, but definitely looks like it’s up to the job), so whilst we’re unable to use it, I’m still happy to recommend…As long as you have as power supply really close or have the expertise to adapt it yourself.
First thing was to remove the plug and wire it up using a waterproof connector.
it pumps well but the real problem is what you are going to do when all those lovely efficient filters clog up, which they will pretty fast, and your pump is nicely seated at the bottom in the middle of the pond.
I’ve removed the finer filter to delay the inevitable and the pump can cope just fine with fine particulates going through it.
As for the cage for the balls. Same thing, theyl need replacing, easier just to throw some into the bottom of the pond.
In summary, the pump is fine, the wiring is a bit short but the filters are unnecessary and really should be in a separate box, preferable outside the pond.
This is a well put together pump kit for garden ponds, fountains, water features etc.
Our garden water feature is more of a stream than a pond, so we don’t have fish, but we do have frogs, newts etc, so I didn’t want to install a pump that would be a problem for them. This seems to fit the bill with it’s large filter.
The kit came with everything you need to get started, see my pics.
Really easy to set it up, hardly needed the instructions.
I just placed the pump in the filter box along with the bio balls, fed the power cable through the gap designed for it, clipped shut the lid (with large course and fine filters). Then pushed in the base of the fountain head, then chose one of the fountain heads to put in the top. Plugged it in and immediately worked.
The bell shaped head was best suited to the narrow area I tested it in, as it’s only about 30cm high and not too wide. See my video.
Also, I quite liked using it with no fountain head at all – just a bubbling vertical column of water.
The more traditional heads gave much higher and wider sprays and you’ll need at least a meter of water around the pump for the spray to land back into. So this isn’t for very small ponds.
The tallest of the sprays reached higher than me, about 2m!
Generally, I’m impressed with the overall build quality, and the power of the pump seems very good. However, it would have been handy to have a longer lead, as that limits the distance the pump can go from the edge of a larger pond to a weatherproof connector or socket. But fine for my use.
This box can be opened using the 4 tabs on the corners; Inside is the pump with 2 layers of foam filter and 20 bio balls for filtration. There is also some tubing for the water feature and patterns as well as another connection to reroute it.
The pump has a decent amount of power to effectively push the water where it needs to go and have a pleasant uniform sounding waterfall. There is a flow restriction as well so this can be dialled in for your needs.
There is enough space in the box to add your own filtration or more bio balls as well, so youre not limited to what youre given and there is no way fish can get into this to be harmed.
Seems like a solid choice for an outdoor pond
We have a reasonably sized pond for which we have an existing pump and water feature, however during the summer months we often enhance this pump with the use of aeration devices to further circulate the water to increase oxygen and I intend to use this pump with a fountain option to further increase oxygenation for our fish.
Out of the box you receive the filter box, within which are a three filter media, 2 types of foam and biological balls. I was a little disappointed that there were only 20 balls in the pack as the filter box could easily accommodate twice that amount. Additionally there are a number of connections which fit on the pump to either offer 3 alternative patterns or to connect an option to direct the flow of water from the fountain in a separate direction for a water feature. It is pretty basic and is controlled via a simple valve to redirect the water; the pump has sufficient power to pump a reduced flow of water to the fountain and a small water feature if desired.
The pump has a 1.7 metre power cable which I found a little short for my needs and I may have to connect an extension lead and waterproof junction box in due course. The pump is quite efficient but lacks a UV light for the filter, which may prove to be problematic for some ponds through the year. Some submersible filter pumps have this facility and I have found them to be better at removing algae, which is so important during warmer weather. I our case this is less important an our main pump has UV filtration anyway.
Overall a 4 star rating. This system does work, it is simple to install and does operate well as a filter although I will be adding more biological balls shortly. It will be simple to operate and clean and in our case is a useful addition to our setup for the winter.
