CHORTAU Dash Cam Front and Rear, 4k+1080P WiFi Dual Dash Cam
CHORTAU Dash Cam Front and Rear, 4k+1080P WiFi Dual Dash Cam with APP, 3’’ IPS Dash Camera for Cars with Free 64GB Card, Dashboard Camera with Night Vision, 24/7 Parking Monitor, WDR, Loop Recording
Got this for the motorhome and really like it, and feel much better knowing that we have a record of what is happening. In fact, on our first trip out we had an incident where two walkers stepped out in front of us without looking, as we were whizzing along at 60mph or a road with a 70mph limit. Luckily, we managed to break in time so there was no incident, but had anything bad happened, it would all have been caught on camera, as it was clearly not us that was at fault. I now want one in my car as well.
POSITIVES:
– The quality of the videos are superb. For the forward facing camera it is recorded in 4k and the rear facing camera is 1080p.
– Quality of video means things like license plates and road signs are captured well.
– Connects with an app so easy to download and view videos.
– Excellent night vision, so you have quality images even when the light is low.
– Simple to set up by following the instructions
The only little niggle was that the rear camera needed wiring externally and there was nothing in the kit to help with this, although, to be fair, our motorhome is quite long so it isn’t possible to cater for all needs. As it is, we’re not using the rear camera, which is fine, as my need was very much for the forward facing camera.
For the price this is an exceptional dash cam from CHORTAU. The kit also includes a rear camera.
The front camera has a 170 deg lens which is exactly what I need for my van. The rear is 140 degs. Would have been nice if this was also 170 degs. 🙁
The quality of the build is good, and so is the specifications. 4k+ 1080p, plus the kit includes a 65Gb memory card already installed in the camera.
Rear of the camera has a large LCD which is easy to see, and read. You can also connect using wi-fi to your smart phone using the app.
Has a good selection of options, from G-sensor, parking monitor, time lapse, night vision to name a few. All about what works for you. You do need a hardwire kit to have it live which isn’t supplied 24/7. the kit only comes with an aux power connector. Personally this can be a catch 22 situation because until a hard line kit installed I have no idea if this is going to drain my battery. Which is a common issue with these setups. I already have one and only connect it when I’m driving.
It’s very easy to use, very intuitive, Just check that it’s limitations work for you in respect to the rear camera. There’s some reviews providing some interesting insight to it’s limitations / restraints.
5/5 Based on it’s price point, and specifications.
Comprehensive dash cam kit, supplied with all you need to run a front and rear camera setup.
As we are in the process of changing our car, I have not installed it fully, just set it up on the bench to check the operation of the rear camera with the front one (which it is recommended you do anyway prior to going to the effort of making the full installation, to check everything works as it should)
Easy enough to set up, going through the menus is fairly intuitive, with all the fixed buttons clearly labelled and some reference to the instructions. Setting the time and date, recording resolution, recording intervals etc all achieved easily.
Decent length cables for both front and rear, effective mounting brackets so the physical installation of both is straight forward, just a case of hiding everything best you can. I would have preferred more adjustment on the mount and a ‘sucker’ mount to enable fine tuning of the position, which is not so easy with a sticky pad.
Unit powers up quickly when the power comes on, then powers down after a short interval when the power goes off.
The ‘Viidure’ app worked fine, there were was a warning on the Play store that it might not run well on my device, but I did not have any issues, downloaded and installed the app, turned the WiFi on the dash cam, connected the phone to the dash cam then you have access to a live view, various settings and any footage stored on the device. A useful addition, rather than having to manipulate all the menus with the dash cam attached to the windscreen.
In use it works as expected, the recorded image is clear, I have it set so the rear camera is in the top right hand corner as a picture in picture, but you can have just the all front or all rear, whichever suits your needs.
The rear camera cable has a slim line plug at the camera end, making it easier to feed it back into the vehicle from the outside, without having to manipulate all the cable through the hole.
A good dash cam kit, with easy to follow instructions which include QR code links to more in depth video instructions for key features.
Having seen a colleague successfully use dash cam footage in an insurance claim, I decided this would be a worthwhile upgrade to my car for peace of mind.
My husband and father in law were tasked with the installation. I gather it was somewhat tedious and it did take them a while. My car is only small, so the wiring didn’t need feeding too far, but this also has its constraints with working space.
The set up comes with front and rear cameras. The front installs on the windscreen with a sticky pad. It’s held up well so far, but I do worry about how effective it will be long term.
The instructions include qr codes to link to the app, so it’s great to have access on my phone at any time. There are many features included and the video playback picture quality is very good.
A 64gb card is included which is a much appreciated addition. This means that footage can be saved for a decent length of time, and the recording carries on in a loop, overwriting the oldest footage, which means you can set and forget about it (unless certain footage is needed).
The quality of the parts seems very good, and the recording quality, even at night, is impressive for the price.
Overall, I’m very happy with this set up, and the peace of mind it provides. It’s very good value, and I’d recommend it as an entry level device.
My daughter has been after a dashcam so I ordered this for her and these are her comments: I have been wanting a dash cam for a while and have been putting off buying one due to the high cost and trying to find one that is good quality, reliable but also affordable has been quite challenging. I grateful to be able to give this one a go and I’m very glad I did. It turned out to be a great choice — it is just right for what I need it for and isn’t too expensive compared to others I have looked at. The cameras were easy to install and set up, and the screen is very clear and easy to use. The fact that it comes with a free 64GB card is a huge bonus as it means I don’t have to worry about purchasing one separately. The video quality is very good and I’m very impressed with how clear the footage is, both during the day and at night.
One feature I particularly like is the WiFi connectivity — this was something that was really important to me when I was looking for a dash cam and having this makes it really easy to review and download videos straight to my phone, making it incredibly convenient and great for sharing clips or even just reviewing my driving. This particular dash cam also comes with some really handy features such as a parking monitor and loop recording. The parking monitor is a bonus as I live in a mid-terrace house with street parking and it’s something I worry about as there have been car break-ins down my road before, but the parking monitor gives me extra security and peace of mind knowing that my car is safer even when I’m not in it. The loop recording is also useful as it ensures that I never have to worry about running out of space on the memory card, or having to constantly delete footage.
previous dashcam needed replacing, state of the roads round here had shaken its mount to the point of wreaking the power feed.
this one fits directly to the front windscreen with a sticky pad, time will tell how well that works but I suspect cleaning the glass properly beforehand helps (I used the glass cleaning wipes you get with a phone screen protector – would have been a nice addition to have a few in the box).
at this point you notice the first design issue, the USB-C power feed it on the top of the device, so you need to be careful fitting it to leave space to plug it in. I see the benefit of here as the wire can quickly go behind the headliner, however fitting to the top edge along either side would have been better. – one off job just something to be aware of.
the rear camera is more involved, its designed to go around or just above the rear number plate, which makes actually installing it a non-trivial matter potentially involving a drill – I plan to 3d print a mount so it can go on the parcel shelf – external means its not looking through the rear window which can be good, also means it will need regular cleaning. mixed thoughts on that and not yet installed it.
actual operation is not too bad, once set up you can more or less forget about it, however the controls are on one side, while there are labels on the front these are not the actual buttons as with some devices.
would also be nice to have the hard wire kit, needed for some functions, actually in the box though its not too bad at this price point (I’m using the previous hard wire kit with a USB converter lead)
quality is ok, seems to lack a polarising filter, again its a low price point though.
firmly in the better than nothing category and will pay for itself with a single insurance claim if it comes to it, there are better out there though at this price point this is a good optio
