Solid construction. Mechanism is firm without being too stiff.
Comes with a good sharpness and cuts through eg rose stems without too much effort.
Decent pair of secateurs for the price.
I knew my old secateurs were getting old and slightly blunt, but didn’t realise quite how blunt until I got these! Nice and sharp.
These are comfortable to hold and the one orange handle makes them easy to see in the shed.
As others have stated, the lock wheel is handy
Happy with the price, at the time of this review
I got these to primarily be used by my mother who is the gardener in the household, but has arthritis. I’m trying to make sure she has up to date, good condition tools and the like that help with that.
She’s very happy with these as she finds them comfortable, and easy to operate.
The quality is good, they’re definitely sharp and the rubber covered handles make them comfortable enough for my mother, let alone me. The safety lock is fine and I’ve got another sprung tool in my own toolbox that popped open on me the other day. Fortunately it wasn’t sharp, but I realised even a simple locking mechanism would have made it safer or at least not startling, and also easier to fit in the toolbox.
Given the price they’re charging, I think these are a great option for most people.
These are an upgrade on my previous set. They are a nice weight in the hand, feel solid, like they will last a long time. From using them to prune my rose tree I can safely say they are very sharp and cut easily.
The blade length is good and even with thicker stems there is no wobble when cutting, it’s a smooth solid snap.
As another reviewer suggested, keeping a bit of oil to wipe over after use will help keep rust at bay (good tip for all garden tools). Really pleased with them and think they are well worth the price.
I got these to replace my worn out shears, they turned out to be so much better than I have previously experienced.
Pros
High quality
Sharp
Long cutting edge
Metal turn knob locking
Rubberised handles
Very clean cut
Cons
None that I can find
The looks are a little odd but interesting and do stand out in my garden tool collection so easy to spot and grab, they feel comfortable to hold and operate, the locking mechanism is interesting as it is a rotary locking knob which feels very stiff at first but after a couple of uses it slackens off to become easier.
Performance is the most impressive part, I have a tough to cut small tree and rose bush so I tested them on those, and they were like a knife through butter, making light work of pruning, the cut was very clean and they were able to handle reasonably thick branches as the curved blade is nice and long.
Overall Conclusion
I am very impressed with these shears, the looks, feel and performance made them a pleasure to use and one of my better garden tools, they performed much better than cheaper pairs I previously bought and at a bargain price of under a tenner I can highly recommend these.
Decent bypass sheers that do the job. They’re fairly comfortable to hold and use. One handle is bright orange to make them stand out more if you lose them and the handles are plastic coated. The thumb lock works well. I’m not quite sure why there is the notch in the top of the top blade – I’m very much a part time gardener and no doubt it’s something that should be very useful, but I just found it tended to catch on branches and stems when I was cutting back in thicker growth.
The information on the back of the pack is very much in broken English, obviously very badly translated to the point, at times, of being nonsensical. I don’t understand why they couldn’t just have someone translate correctly for them rather than, I’m assuming, plugging it into some dodgy automatic translater. This does detract a bit from the overall “feel” of the product, but doesn’t stop them being reasonably decent secateurs.
