I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of magnetic USB-C attachments. This is very helpful for protecting the USB port by allowing me to keep the magnetic attachment in the phone. Doesn’t feel out of place or cumbersome. The adapter attaches easily with the magnet and allows me to charge my phone or data transfer with minimal fuss.
The shape is probably more effective for laptops, but it doesn’t cause much issues when used with phones or tablets.
Small green indicator light lets you know when it is in use, which is a small but nice feature. Provides good speeds for charging. Very happy.
Featuring a high-quality anodised metal and plastic case with single white LED, milled/polished edges and its standout safety feature of a gold-plated magnetic breakaway plug connectable in any orientation, this did everything it’s supposed to, facilitating fast charging of my iPad, quick data transfer and best-in-class A/V transmission.
Data and video carrying abilities were tested via a HDMI socket-equipped USB-C hub outputting to a PC monitor, connected to an iPad Pro (for Power Delivery testing) and Windows 11 laptop with DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C. Actual data transfer rates were not measured, however the up to 40 Gbps USB 4.0 specification places this amongst the fastest performing.
On top of the detachable tip with its strong magnetic pull, I appreciate that a removal tool for extracting it from devices’ USB ports is also included in the pack, making use of fingernails unnecessary. Using the tool as intended could potentially damage the connector’s gold plating however as it is also made from metal, plus it’s actually too thick to properly get a grip and pull (out) with, particularly if the device is in a case.
I know it’s supposed to be left in all the time, with the added bonus of protecting the inside of the port from dust and debris. But dedicated cutouts that fit the extractor’s prongs in the plastic surrounding the connector’s outer edge would be a good improvement, and/or replacing the tool with a design made from hard plastic. Whatever the material, being made at least twice as wide would also be beneficial because I find its slim form somewhat difficult to manipulate with my large fingertips.
Quibbles aside, overall this a great high performance, future proof and safety-focused adapter. Recommended — 5/5 stars
I was excited to try out the IVIVTOR USB C magnetic design adapter as part of my Vine programme review because I’ve always loved the MagSafe magnetic power connection on my old MacBook and other magnetic USB-C adapters I’ve tested. I had high expectations for this adapter, and I’m pleased to say it lived up to them. This is another brilliant little device. I tried the 90-degree elbow design and the straight design.
The 90-degree angle design might be more specialised, especially for devices like laptops where you want the cable to route upwards or sideways rather than straight out. For me, both designs worked perfectly, particularly in situations where cable management is important. They are also compatible with each other.
What I love most about this adapter is how it effortlessly combines convenience, protection, and speed. It’s the kind of functionality that makes you wonder why magnetic connections weren’t made the standard when transitioning from USB-A. The magnet’s strength is just right—not too overpowering, but sturdy enough to ensure a secure connection. It makes plugging and unplugging the cable a breeze, as the magnet takes care of perfect alignment every time.
One small but useful feature is the green LED light that indicates when the adapter is powered. It’s a simple touch, but it adds to the overall ease of use.
Another great aspect is that it retains USB-C’s omnidirectional nature, so it doesn’t matter which way the magnetic connection is made—it works perfectly either way.
The peace of mind this adapter offers is invaluable. You no longer have to worry about accidentally yanking out a cable or tripping over it. While wireless charging is convenient, it’s not always practical, especially with thicker cases on devices. This magnetic connection makes charging and data transfer as effortless as wireless, but with all the reliability of a wired connection.
I wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone who frequently plugs in USB-C devices for charging or data transfer. It’s a useful gadget that, once you start using it, you will not want to go back to non-magnetic connections.
It’s a nice form factor giving you the 90 degree USB-C connection into your device, and the charging and data connection appear to be good – good data speeds and PD charging (though I haven’t pushed it to the stated limits, I used it for Android ADB connections and file transfer and it was it worked perfectly. Charging wise I don’t have anything that wil pull 140W, but this hit the max possible on every device I did try up to 30+W.)
The only shame is that the magnetic connection is elongated rather than round, so you position of the dapter is fixed rather than being rotatable. The orientation is likely what you want anyway, but it would have been nice to have the rotational flexibility that a concentric round magnetic connector gives.
I got the ‘1 pack male to female straight’ option of this adapter, ‘USB C magnetic Adapter, Straight USB4.0 PD 140W 40Gb/s’ and it does the job well. It’s not the top USB spec since it doesn’t support 240 watt charging, but most devices don’t require that level of charging anyway and any phone or tablet will be more than catered for with 140 watt. It does hit the top data spec of 40Gb/s though so if you have an obscenely fast source and target drive it’ll support that (you might not now, but you might have in five years from now when I’d expect this to still be working).
If you haven’t used a magnetic cable or adapter before, they come in two parts. There’s a small USB C insert that goes in the device you want to charge (or transfer data to and from) and the other half goes on your cable. When you bring the adapter near the insert they magnetically couple and that happens surprisingly easily, quickly and firmly. The inserts don’t come out unless you pry them out with a fingernail – you won’t need a screwdriver.
Alignment is really easy, like a modern pair of earbuds, the magnets do the majority of the work and honestly that makes it easy.
I use them with my headphones, earbuds and phone. My phone sits in a stand, and I just offer the cable up and it couples. That means I don’t have to use wireless charging, or pick the phone up to charge it. It uncouples easily. It’s a really good convenience upgrade that stops you fiddling with stuff and for that reason, I think it’s a great gift for a relative with dexterity problems such as arthritis who doesn’t want to be fumbling with cables. When my parents go full USB C and ditch Lightning, I’ll definitely be trying to shift them over to this style of connector.
At this price, it’s pretty good value and allows you to use an existing cable which is an important factor. Your other option is a cable with this facility built in, but I haven’t had any problems using this adapter.
There’s no guarantee but my adapters from different companies all seem to play well with each other so there must be a fairly common standard design and that’s helpful (although I’d buy all from the same source if you want lots of them).
I also got the right angled version of this adapter, but I can’t leave a separate review for that as they’re on the same product page.
For charging this is a great device, protects the cable and port from knocks and easily disconnects.
For data transfer I do not recommend this as it is too easy to become disconnected and if this happens halfway through a transfer or update to an external drive, it could be costly in terms of corruption of the drive.
Easy to keep around as it sticks to everything metal near it.

Before discovering the Adapter Elbow I had been using various standard USB-C adapters and cables that often left me frustrated. The constant plugging and unplugging wore down my device ports, and the cables frequently tangled or got in the way. I was always worried about accidentally yanking my laptop off the table when I tripped over the cable. These inconveniences led me to search for a better solution, which is how I stumbled upon this magnetic adapter.
From the moment I started using this 90-degree USB C magnetic adapter, I knew I had found something special. The combination of an updated N52 magnet and high-quality aluminum alloy shell provides a secure, automatic magnetic connection that’s a joy to use. The detachable design has significantly reduced the wear and tear on my device ports, and the right-angle configuration protects the cable from bending while keeping it out of the way of my hands as I work.
One of the standout features of this adapter is its impressive 140W super-fast charging capability. Using Power Delivery technology, it can deliver up to 140W of power, which is perfect for my high-powered devices. I’ve noticed a significant improvement in charging speeds, and the soft white LED indicator gives me peace of mind, confirming that the connection is secure and power is flowing. This feature alone has made my daily routine much more efficient.
The data transfer capabilities of this adapter are equally impressive. With USB 4 standard support and 40Gbps data transmission speed, I can transfer large files, HD movies, and images in seconds. This has been a game-changer for my workflow, especially when working with large video files or backing up my data. Additionally, the 8K@60Hz video output support has enhanced my visual experience tremendously. Whether I’m presenting at work or enjoying a movie at home, the ultra HD resolution is simply stunning.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this USB C magnetic adapter is its wide compatibility. It works seamlessly with my MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and even my new iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’ve also used it with my gaming devices like the ROG Ally and Steam Deck without any issues. The versatility of this single adapter has allowed me to declutter my workspace and simplify my tech setup.
I bought these for phone and tablet to protect the charging ports from constantantly pushing usb cables in and out. You leave the small piece inserted in your device and the connectors in the usb cables. Stops the port from being damaged. Great idea and very useful. Charges just as quickly as it did before using them. Easy to fit and forget. The only issue I’ve had is with tiny magnetic dust particles getting into the gap but which is easily removed with something like blue tac. I like them. And I recommend them.
This little device is easily hands down justifies a higher than 5 star rating. It simply is fantastic to have and use on a computer and or mobile device. For what I needed it worked perfectly, excellent connection and strong magnetic feature (say goodbye to damaged USB-C ports or bent cables!)
I have been needed this clever little charger adapter in my laptop. I have 2 x USB-C ports and they are quite close together and untidy with the cables that I am using to connect to the laptop as well as keeping my laptop charged on my desk and docking station.
This adapter is the first one that I know does truly work at full connectivity at 140 watts for keeping my laption charged as well as connected to my docking station flawlessly. I also tested data transfers from this device and was impressed with data transfer speeds and all while connected to a docking port with 2 x 4k monitors, webcam wireless mouse and keyboard as well as several external USB devices. Excellent and outstanding functionality and connectivity.
No loss of connection or usage unless I physically detached the magnetic cable. I also liked how the elbow was 90 degrees (better than straight out putting pressure on my cables) which allowed my connection to the other USB-C port more accessible.
Device is well made and the magnet is actually stronger than others that I have used to stay attached.
Very happy with the adapter and would definitely recommend.
This is a decent magnetic adaptor and it certainly does the trick of creating a connection between two devices that can detach safely instead of wrenching the connector if pulled the wrong way.
I’ve found these really useful when playing my steam deck while running on power. It creates a bit of a safety net so if I yank the cable by accident it’ll just disconnect the magnet.
This brings me to my only minor gripe about this. The other one of these I have, and ones I’ve seen online, have just a simple connection of a series of small flat plates which means the surface between the connecting parts is completely flat. This one has a small board jutting up from the “base” unit with the connections on that fit into a slot on the head side. I don’t like this design because it introduces something that can break instead of there just being a clean, flat surface. It also means that, despite being identical in its dimensions as my other one, I can’t use them interchangeably.
That minor (and probably specific to me) gripe, this is a good magnetic connector. I just think there are better examples out there.
A good idea with an industrial strength magnetic adaptor.
I charge my iPad Pro each night at the side of my bed resting between the floor and the bed base. I usually forget to do this the easy way before I settle down and bumble around in the semi dark trying to get the USB C charging cable into the socket.
This little unit finds it for me and effortlessly connects when I get it towards the general direction.
Now instead of having a charging cable sticking out at right angles from the top of the iPad, the adaptor allows the cable to run smoothly along the body of the equipment and is much less likely to get me if I happen to get up during the night. (Trust me you would not believe what I am capable of tripping over with my eyes half closed.)
Why have the iPad on the floor to charge? because there is no room on the bedside cabinet where the lamp iPhone, iWatch and first aid kit are kept.
So practical solutions to a set of annoying problems at a reasonable cost.
This adapter arrived in a little packet with the USB-C part plug that goes into your device, a bigger elbow with a USB-C socket for your own USB-C cable and a little pair of pincers for removing the plug. The instructon images claim that the pincers go inside the plug to remove it but this is not possible as the hole is too small for the tool so presumably you grab the outside of it and pull. Personally I think this is a recipe for scratching the side of your laptop as the tool is made of metal. The plug can be removed with fingers so I’d just do that instead.
In use, after putting the plug into my MacBook and attaching a USB-C cable to the elbow, they mate together magnetically with a satisfying clunk and it adds that magsafe easily detachable in an emergency functionality that is missing from my MacBook. Because the elbow puts the power cable at 90 degrees it means I can put the cable facing backwards and out of the way. The negative for me is that it wasn’t really apparent that this adapter had a bright white LED that I find really quite distracting especially in low light and it is on both sides so you can’t even turn it over so you don’t see it. If it was dim and a different colour (not blue!) it would probably be much better.
Overall this is a good magsafe type adapter for the price and it works really well other than the bright LED which may not bother you but I will be sticking a piece of tape over mine.
These adapters are so handy to have, attach the little magnetic clip to your USB C device, then with the adapter on the end of the USB C cable, it snaps into place when you want to charge your device, very convenient. Charges quickly too, if you have a fast charging cable on the other end though.
For several years, I have used various magnetic charging cables to charge my smartphone, as not having to constantly plug and unplug the connector should help to reduce wear on the charging port. However, the last time I connected the cable to my phone, I noticed a burning smell and the magnetic connector was really hot, so it ended up in the bin — I have a feeling that this may have been something to do with the cable not having a high enough power rating to cope with my phones charger, so I thought I’d give one of these adapters a try.
The adapter is nice and compact and feels pretty sturdy with its aluminium and plastic body.
On one end you have a USB-C female socket and at 90 degrees to it, you have a USB-C male connector which attaches to the main body using a strong magnet. The small magnetic part can be left in the charging port of your device and then quickly snaps into place when you need to charge.
The manufacturer states that the adapter is rated to support up to 140W of power (5V/3A-20V/7A) and also supports data transfer at up to 40Gbps.

***** Conclusion *****
So far, I’m really pleased with this handy little adapter from IVITOR.
I really like the convenience of being able to quickly snap the charging cable onto my phone, without the need to fiddle around trying to find the USB socket. I usually buy the complete cable, but this sturdy little connector means I can use the numerous USB-C cables I already have.
The only thing I would have really liked, would have been the inclusion of 1 or 2 more or the little magnetic connectors, so that I could keep one in my phone, another in my tablet and it would also be really useful for my son’s Quest 3 headset.
I think the 8.99 asking price is fairly reasonable and would definitely be cheaper than having to replace charging ports through wear and tear.
