LOL dolls are quite well made in comparison to some others available. This one is no different. It’s also no different in terms of packaging, way too much single use plastic for my liking. I’m not a particularly eco conscious person but even I can see this has so much unnecessary waste.
The product packaging was squashed and cracked but other items in the box were fine, so I think the product box is a bit of an issue. It would make an ideal gift for someone if it arrived in one piece.
Great doll - our daughter loves it!
Our daughter absolutely loves L.O.L Surprise dolls and when this came up for order we had to purchase. As per usual, this is a quality product that looks exactly as you’d expect it to based off of the advertisements / pictures in the item description. I do always feel that there could be more of an effort on the manufacturers part to use less plastic when it comes to packaging though as there is often a LOT of wasted plastic wrapping which I believe is not the easiest thing to recycle. This aside though, the toy itself is fun and our daughter loves the new styles available. Super happy!

Making Lola Waves
LOL Dolls are not just blind bag babies anymore, there are everything and everywhere. This ‘Mermaid Lola Waves’ is part of their Tweens range, which means that they can create some larger dolls that will appeal to a child as they get a little older. The cute style and mermaid option does mean that it still appeals to the younger child, but they are bigger than the other LOL characters we have.
This ‘Mermaid’ is your classic mermaid doll, but with the LOL makeover. The character has a larger head and eyes and you get some accessories and a cascade of hair to be played with. It is a lighter doll as the tail is designed to go in water and changes colour. The children love this and it makes an ideal bath toy, but you can play with it out of the bath too.
It is all well made and not overly expensive. LOL fans will love the fact that it looks and feels like the same brand, but you can get similar toys like the Barbie version. It won’t take long before the hair starts to look like a rat’s nest if you keep the doll in the bathroom.
Lovely mermaid doll, colour changing tail is OK
Absolutely gorgeous mermaid doll, I got her for my 5 year old, and she loves her!
Firstly, I have to mention that the box came extremely damaged in one corner, with sharp plastic shards, which was very disappointing! (see my photo) It was also really tricky getting her out the packaging, I know everything has to be kept safe, but it was over the top, in my opinion.
Lola’s mermaid tail changes colour when submerged in cold water, and you can flick her fin back and forth, like she’s really swimming. She can also stand on her fin, but it’s a little tricky to get her balanced. She also comes with some cute accessories, and the details are lovely!
I will say, that her hair is really crispy and hard to start with. It also looked a bit messy at the back, so I washed and conditioned it, and it looked and felt much better! (see my photos)
I’m a little torn how I feel about her overall. She’s such a lovely doll, but from a practical point, she either needs to be a bath toy, so it doesn’t matter how wet she gets, or just be used as a regular doll, and forget about the colour changing. My little girl is happy for her to just be a regular doll to play with, as the colour changing is fun, but not that amazing, plus it’s a bit of a faff, as you need really cold water!
I think the price is reasonable, and I think lots of children would absolutely love having their very own Lola Waves.
Cute mermaid doll
I got the Lola Waves LOL surprise Tweens Mermaids doll. She comes beautifully packaged in a box with holographic accents and illustrations of Lola on the back and sides.
The doll has lovely long hair, as well as a headband and sunglasses accessories. The mermaid tail can change colour in water, but it doesn’t work in the bath as it needs to be cold water, not hot water. At the moment the water out of the tap isn’t cold enough, so needs a bit of ice in the water to get it cool for the colour change magic to happen.
Beautiful mermaid doll. This doll was a little difficult to unwrap and detach from its plastic bindings and tape so be careful.
Its hair was styled with gel, so I just rinsed the hair, shampooed and conditioned it, LOL, which was very easy to do, and soon the hair was extremely soft and very bright.
I think it takes a little while for the tail’s color to change in cold water.
