The Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit Lego set is an easy to build diorama depicting the scene where Han Solo and Chewbacca are set free and where Boba Fett meets his fate in the Sarlacc Pit. Given the logistics of building an actual Sarlacc Pit with all of the sand dunes, folds, teeth and tentacles, Lego has done a good job of designing a set that symbolises it well.
The instructions are very easy to follow, with different phases of construction for both the skiff and the pit, with Lego provided in recyclable packets to open as required.
I constructed this set with my son and we had no trouble at all putting it together in about an hour. The only challenging part was putting the dunes together for the Sarlacc Pit, lets face it, sand dunes all look alike.
The skiff is made to look like it is hovering above the Sarlacc Pit by the use of see-through blocks.
One word of caution is to make sure you only bend the provided plastic rods for the Skiff railings as you place them in the rail holders, that way you don’t cause any stress of the plastic.
Lego minifigures of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian are provided so you can set up the diorama with the iconic scene of the rescue taking place.
Separately, to celebrate 25 years of Star Wars Lego, you also receive an exclusive minifigure of Nunb, Lando’s co-pilot in the Millennium Falcon, in the final scenes of Return of the Jedi.
A nice easy set to build that presents the scene well.
I ordered this for my nephew who is a big LEGO fan and has only discovered the Star Wars franchise. He was delighted and had great fun building this. He did require some help here and there, but overall it was a good experience. The set has the usual LEGO quality and details, the instructions are quite good and the build enjoyable.
Okay – I’ll admit it – the first thing I did when I finished assembling this set was to have Boba Fett’s legs sticking out of the Sarlacc’s beak. If you’re the sort of person that makes lightsabre noises when you pick up a baguette in the supermarket – you just have to.
This is a very good kit and comes with a surprising amount of pieces. I didn’t time myself but I’m sure it would have been a good couple of hours putting this together. While the instructions are pretty good – some of the colour coding is a little bit on the “Sarlacc Pit” side. Dark brown and black are differentiated with a white outline! Younger builders may need some assistance here. Middle-aged ones too but the missus just laughed. She was my only hope too.
Slightly antithetical to the Lego way – there’s a lot of custom shaped parts here – especially with the ‘sand’ pieces around the pit itself. Personally I found this went a little overboard but the effect is fine. The Sarlacc’s beak was a little undercooked for my liking and definitely looks a lot better closed.
While I appreciate the extra display figure and platform…Nien Nunb? Really? Apart from not being relevant to the scene – surely Leia would have been the better choice.
A few little niggles but a great set.
I didn’t get to build this particular set myself. My adult son immediately grabbed it from me so that he could complete the build and add to the display in his room. I just about managed to get it unboxed before he swiped it from me.
This set comes with the paper rather than plastic bag inserts that Lego have been slowly filtering through in to their range. This makes them easily recyclable rather than the previous plastic bags. They do have tear strips for easy access to the bricky goodness so you won’t need to hunt out the scissors to carry out the build.
You do get 6 mini figures included with the set. Pity there’s no Leia but it is what it is and the included figures are a good selection. I do like that you get the Hutt’s Royal Barge as well as the pit as this does make it quite a dynamic scene.
I can report back that the build experience is a lot of fun and there are some large, moulded pieces used which probably explains the relatively high cost of the pieces. The finished look is a little cartoon like compared to some of the previous offerings in this particular Lego franchise but is overall a good addition to his collection.

As a lifelong fan of both LEGO and Star Wars, the ‘LEGO Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit’ set truly hits the mark. This 558-piece kit masterfully recreates the iconic Sarlacc Pit scene from Return of the Jedi. The set includes a detailed Desert Skiff with an extendable plank and a Sarlacc with movable tentacles and an opening mouth, adding dynamic playability.
The inclusion of six well-crafted mini figures—Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Boba Fett, Lando Calrissian, and a special 25th-anniversary Nien Nunb with his own plaque—enhances the overall experience. Each figure comes with specific accessories, like Luke’s lightsabre and Boba Fett’s blaster, which adds to the authenticity.
Building the set was straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions and the option to use the LEGO Builder app. While the 70 price tag is on the higher side, the quality, attention to detail, and nostalgia factor make it worthwhile. It’s not just a toy but a fantastic display piece that any collector or fan would appreciate. Highly recommended!
This is a good set of lego to which my 8 year old built with minimal support. It looks good and has that nostalgia effect for the starwars fan or nerd in you.
The parts are well constructured for the most part with only complain being the vehicle. At the front of the vehicle, the part is only held on by 2 poiints either side and you have a railing which is a piece of plastic that unfortunately keeps forcing these parts to come apart. The actual sarlac mouth is quite disappointing also but the rest of the construction is good and looks the part. The little figures are great.
It is a fun build and great for any nerds or starwars fans. It is possible by younger groups but the manual isn’t the clearest in guiding some sections so have to be observant and a more familiar lego builder.
Would recommend this for a lego set or a starwars fan. It would be 5* if it werent for the cheap sarlacc mouth, the manual and the railing of the speeder.
[I received this product for free, in exchange for an honest review, as part of the Amazon Vine programme. That being said, this review is NOT swayed by that, and (as always) contains only my real thoughts on the product; good and bad.]
I requested the ‘LEGO Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit, Vehicle Building Toy Set for 9 Plus Year Old’ as a big fan of LEGO and Star Wars, and I was delighted when my request was accepted.
The set is a great recreation of the Sarlacc Pit scene from Return of the Jedi. The Desert Skiff and Sarlacc Pit are easy enough to assemble with detailed instructions enclosed; though this is not suitable for children under 9 years due to the complexity of the build. The mini figures have their own accessories and there is some movement built into the scene, the tentacles and the plank on the Desert Skiff do move, when you twist or pull their respective buttons.
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of LEGO Star Wars a Nien Nunb mini figure is included in the pack and he has his own plaque, which is a nice addition. This is a great anniversary set and would make a wonderful gift for any Star Wars or LEGO fan, with the holiday season just around the corner.
For the price of 70 it is expensive, but the LEGO brand is consistently high quality and the designs they produce are great fun to make, this set is no exception to that. I am happy to recommend it, 5 stars.
This LEGO Star Wars set recreates the iconic Sarlacc pit scene from Return of the Jedi (after which no more Star Wars films were made, save Rogue One). It’s the updated version of the scene, so the Sarlacc has jaws now.
You get SIX figurines:
– Luke Skywalker
– Han Solo, who looks gleefully happy instead of temporarily blind
– Chewbacca
– Boba Fett
– Lando
– Nien Nuns… no idea what he’s doing there?? He’s not part of the scene?? But he comes with his own plaque for some reason
The set has basic functionality, in that the tentacles in the pit have basic movements, and the ship has an extendable plank. And the characters come with some accessories (i.e. lightsabre for Luke, lance for Lando, gun for Boba).
For 70, I think it’s a bit pricey for just the sarlacc pit and ship on their own, I’d have liked to have seen Leia or even the droids included instead of Nien, but I guess that would be a whole another set with the main barge on it and Jabba etc. But I think this is priced a little high, so I’m dropping 1* just on reflection of the value proposition. Otherwise, it’s a great set that collectors will be happy with.
