These spikes really do the job. I glued them to the guttering where the birds got into the roof. Now I dont have a problem, the birds dont even attempt to land they just fly past. Wondeul.
I wanted to keep pidgeons off my greenhouse. The birds would perch on the top and mess on the glass. Although these spikes are designed to be placed on a flat surface I was able to attach them to a length of garden hose and plastic covered garden support stakes using tie wraps. It was fiddly to erect but the spikes keep them off. No more poop! The edges of the metal is quite sharp and I cut my thumb, so caution is recommended.
Used to deter foxes coming into our garden. Seems to have done the job.
Would recommend using one base strip as a template for attaching to fence. Pilot hole drilled made easy work connecting the very sharp spikes into place.
For the money, these are excellent quality and effective.
Pros:
Cheap
Stainless steel base plates
Stainless steel spikes
Effective against birds landing/perching
Cons:
Fiddly and time consuming to assemble
Flimsy base plates
Short length base plates
Once assembled and fixed in place these bird spikes are perfect.
The spikes are made from stainless steel so they won’t degrade to UV (sunlight) or break as plastic ones can (and do).
The spikes are sufficiently dense to deter any bird from landing and/or perching from above. Smaller birds could feasibly ‘get in’ from the sides.
The base plates only 25cm long, and they can’t be clipped/attached together. This means that you’d have to fix each plate, and to do it properly you’d need two fixings per plate.
The are three 8x5mm holes in each plate to enable screws for fixing.
For longer lengths it would be easier to affix the numerous short base plates to a long length of material then just uses a few screws to fix the assembly in place. Of course the individual plates can be fixed using adhesive (or cable ties if appropriate).
The plates themselves are quite flimsy but once in place this doesn’t matter, and the spikes fit into their holes securely.
Comes in a compact cardboard box.
