I had doubts about this because it has been a few years. Thankfully, I was proved wrong. The cast are brilliant and it has a great twist, but most of all it is a very funny film and totally enjoyable.

I must admit, I was waiting in anticipation for this sequel and for me, it didn’t disappoint….I’m sure the negative reviewers were expecting it to be on the same lines as the first Beetlejuice, but time moves on and tbf, it is 36 yrs or so later….with hindsight, maybe cameos from the Maitlands would have been pretty amazing…..but overall, I was pretty pleased with BJ2…. and will be buying the dvd to add the the first one….

Don’t listen to the naysayers. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a fun comedy romp. Michael Douglas Keaton (as he now prefers to be named) returns as the titular character and Catherine O Hara (Home Alone 1+2 and Beetlejuice) also reprises her role from the original flick. Neither actor has missed a beat, slipping seamlessly back into their roles.

I’m not going to go into spoilers or say anything that would give key plot points away but I will say this, Beetlejuice is as outspoken and non PC as he’s always been. The new characters we meet are, at face value, quite uninteresting but, scratch the surface deep enough and you’ll soon discover that actually they’re anything but. Jenna Ortega really shines, yet again, here too.

If you’re a fan of the original, of the actor(s) or even the director it’s definitely the film for you. And if you’ve never seen the original or aren’t familiar with Keaton and Burton’s previous work Beetlejuice Beetlejuice serves as the perfect introduction.

Definitely one to watch… Just don’t say his name 3 times.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLydia Deetz now a psychic medium with her own TV show starts having visions of Beetlejuice, the demon trickster ghost that haunted her as a teenager while Beetlejuice himself is haunted by the ghost of his dead wife who is out for revenge. Picking up 36 years after the classic original 80’s comedy horror movie, this is a fun, zany and wacky belated sequel with good performances from Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and Michael Keaton all returning from the original film with Michael Keaton back as Beetlejuice and joined by Jenna Ortega, Justin Thereux, Monica Bellucci, Willem DeFoe and Danny DeVito as new characters while the sequel explores the wacky afterlife more even if it does copy the plot of the original. No need to have seen the original movie first though you might enjoy it more if you are a fan.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe day befor I saw this movie at the cinema, I rewatched the original; it hasn’t aged that well. We loved it back in the day but by todays standards the SFX are clunky and poor, the story while good is disjointed, leapfroging through the story to get it all in the time frame.
    So how does this compare.
They have used the same SFX techniques, this is both good and bad; good because it maintains the same flavour of the original, bad because they are so clunky.
The story also leapfrogs through to keep within the time limits. But the story is a little more complex than the first one and it does help if have seen the first one as there are many references to the first story.
As a movie with all critisms taken into account it is very entertaining, a few more laugh outloud moments than the first and the other chost take on more of the story than just being setdressing like before. Good gulish comedy entertainment worth a watch.
