The Cable Matters USB-C to HDMI 2.1 Cable is a high-resolution, high-quality cable that supports up to 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 240Hz. It offers HDR compatibility, enhancing the viewing experience with better contrast and more realistic colors. The cable is built with sturdy connectors, making it compatible with a wide range of devices, including MacBook Pro, Dell XPS, and ThinkPad. It supports Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 5, and USB 4, making it future-proof. However, it has limitations on macOS, limiting the maximum resolution to 4K at 60Hz, and lacks VRR support. Despite these drawbacks, the Cable Matters USB-C to HDMI 2.1 Cable is a reliable and high-performing option for tech setups.
Cable works nicely with my Samsung tablet – I can connect it to my TV and projector without any issues.
Seems to be sturdy enough.
Costs 19.99 for the 1.8m cable at the time of this review, which I think is price-y, but still reasonable for its capabilities.
Following a number of failures in connecting either my Samsung Fold 6 or iPad Pro 2024 model to hotel TV systems – most of which suggest wireless connection will work but doesn’t – this cable performs perfectly. It connects to a standard USB-3 port on the Fold and my IPad via a standard HDMI connector to a hotel TV.
It’s a no hassle and reasonably priced option. Five stars.
Recently, when it comes to HDMI I avoid HDMI 2.0 and always go for HDMI 2.1. This is a usb-c to hdmi 2.1 cable and it worked fine with my iMAC (a few years old machine) to connect an external display monitor. I could not test 4K because my external monitor is not 4K but I had no issues with the cable. Overall, the cable is of decent quality but I do find it a bit expensive.
In a nutshell:
Things I liked:
+ Superb quality cable. I used it to get 165 Hertz (at 1440p) from my Asus Zenbook laptop and it worked absolutely flawlessly.
+ The manufacturing quality of the cable is great as well.
+ The price of 25 for a 1.8 metre cable seems pretty reasonable, given the specifications and the manufacturing quality.
Things I didn’t like:
– Nothing.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, absolutely. A great quality cable; flawless performance despite the 1.8 metre length.
This cable has been really handy.
I have always used a dongle with a normal HDMI cable which doesnt look great and is really bulky.
I am finding the need more and more to connect my laptop to an external display so having something that is an all in one solution has been great.
The cable is great quality and works well with no issues.
Highly reccomend.
I’ve been using the Cable Matters USB C to HDMI 2.1 Cable for a few weeks now, and I’m really impressed with it. The cable supports a wide range of resolutions and refresh rates, and it provides a clear and crisp picture. I’ve been using it for gaming, watching movies, and working on my computer, and it’s performed flawlessly in all of these applications.
The cable is also very well-made. It’s durable and has a sturdy construction. The connectors are gold-plated and the cable is braided, which helps to protect it from damage.
As far as I can tell this is essentially a ‘top end’ USB-C to HDMI cable; supporting the maximum throughput and features currently possible with either connection technology. Similarly capable cables (of which there aren’t many) seem to be equivalently priced.
I don’t have the means to test all of that functionality (not having a 8K or 240Hz display), but my 4K LG OLED worked perfectly with this and my Thinkpad X13 Gen4.
The fit and finish is excellent; although the plastic used on the HDMI connector feels a little light/hollow and the rubber sheath on the relatively stiff cable is nothing special.
It all seems durable enough; but it’s a far cry from the aluminium-clad plugs and fabric cable sheaths now commonplace on high-end and even budget cables.
I’m a big fan of Cable Matters and with the ever-changing world of technology standards alongside no name brands promising one thing and never delivering, it is increasingly important to go with reputable brands – even if there is a price premium for doing so.
This cable works absolutely perfectly – supporting the full HDMI 2.1 standard (at least if not on a MacBook). This is an inherent limitation of MacBooks and no USB C to HDMI cable will work – so this is something to be aware of. (USB C to display port is the solution you need).
The cable itself is strong, the cable ends are solid, if not a little inflexible, but looks to be well made and I’d expect it to last years without any problems at all. Solid connections when pushed into ports and it sits flush too so all in all it’s a premium cable that does deliver exactly what it needs to.
There isn’t a huge amount that I can say about this cable, but it does exactly what it’s supposed to do and the connectors at both ends fit into my devices perfectly. There are no issues with it that I can find, therefore I would recommend this cable if the size/features match what you’re looking for. The quality is good.
