I had this for the Switch to stop removing the JoyCons and hopefully help reduce the risk of wear and tear on them. It connected easily, and the feel is good. I’m not quite used to the feel as it’s different to the JoyCons, but I am slowly getting used to it. The battery lasts a while and does not take too long to charge. I am not that bothered with the LED lighting, but it does look nice. At the current price of 34 plus a 40% discount, it is a good value for a dedicated controller that can be connected to many different items.
This is a good controller. You can use it with Bluetooth or wired.
It can be used with a variety of devices.
I like that it is rechargeable as this means you don’t have to faff around with batteries or be near to a plug to use it.

This is a great controller that connected to the switch with ease.
The lights are changeable easily by holding the m button down and moving the left joystick. Brightness is also adjustable.
Controller was nice to hold and buttons feel nice when using and are responsive.
Battery life is good as long as you reminder to switch off as there is no function to automatically switch off if not used.
I got this controller as a replacement for an Xbox controller and it works exactly the same; there was no control tweaks needed for the games I play.
The buttons feel clickly and the joysticks feel smooth.
There are a few ways to connect this to a device using the mode switch. You can use a mode for switch, one for general Bluetooth and another for the wireless usb dongle provided.
In addition you can use a USB cable which allows you to charge the controller while playing.; this feature extends the life of this control and removes the need to swap batteries.
The build quality is decent and it’s very comfortable to hold for longer game sessions so it is a great choice as an alternative controller for people that are used to using the Xbox style layout.

This is a very comfortable controller to hold, the buttons work well and it paired easily with my Switch! I prefer to use this on my games rather than the joycons as it is easier to hold and my joycons have started to drift.

The operation of the analogue controls and Joy paddles is superb and very precise due to the Hall effect implementation.
Hall effect position sensors involve magnets moving through a conductor to accurately track the position without any direct contact which means mechanical wear of electronic components is eliminated.
At 219gm it is heavier than a wired controller but this is due to its internal battery.
It has a nice feel to it and seems to have a good build quality.

The battery life is impressive, giving you several hours of gameplay on a single charge. Charging is quick, so you’re not stuck waiting around for ages before you can jump back in. The joysticks are precise and offer good control, which is a must for any serious gamer.
One wee drawback is that the D-pad feels a bit stiff, especially if you’re used to something more fluid. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it might take a bit of getting used to. The lack of backlighting on the buttons is another small niggle, particularly if you’re gaming in a dark room.
Overall, the EasySMX X05 is a solid, reliable controller that ticks most of the boxes. It’s comfortable, responsive, and great value for the price. A well-earned four stars from me!
This is a fantastic controller; very comfortable, well-sized and with accurate button and stick input. It functions almost exactly like an equivalent Xbox controller, and I’ve had no problems so far in several hours of use.
Pairing is quite simple, and you get three modes: one designed for the Switch, a generic Bluetooth one for mobile or PC, and one that works with the supplied 2.4 Ghz USB-A receiver. I’ve so far only tested the Bluetooth with a Windows 11 machine, and I haven’t had any issues. There is also the option to switch between X-input and D-input for applicable games, with a held button combination, and the light changes colour to indicate this. You can also use a USB-C cable for a wired connection, which will also charge it at the same time.
Instructions come in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin. In the pack, you get a USB-C cable, a USB-A 2.4 Ghz receiver, a pair of football-themed joystick covers, and the controller.
All adjustments (including dead zone, joystick and trigger calibration, and RGB lighting) are done through button inputs on the controller; there is no software to download for monitoring, updates, or any other purpose. Although, it’s not mentioned, the website does have drivers for a few products, in case there’s a problem with recognition during connection, but these are only for Windows systems.
Why four stars and not five? The battery is rechargeable via USB-C, which is great, but it can’t be removed, and as with other lithium ion products, will degrade over time. If they had made this removable so you could put your own rechargeables in there, that would be an improvement for the next iteration. However, looking at their product lineup, all of their models are built like this (even the ones with extra features).
I compared this with the 8bitDo Pro 2, which I purchased a couple of years ago. That uses a more traditional button layout with centrally placed joysticks and the D-pad to the left side, instead of asymmetric joysticks, with a left-of-centre D-pad. It also comes with software, all buttons are remappable, there are two extra back buttons, in addition to adjustable dead zones for triggers and joysticks through the software. However, the key difference is the easily removable, built-in battery pack, which extends the useful working life of the control.
In the end though, the X05 (this product) is not a bad purchase, and you will have a comfortable gaming experience, whichever platform you’re on.
