The women in my family have always used GHD products and they are always the most requested Christmas gifts.
This GHD Duet Blowdry Brush is probably the most expensive of their products that I have seen and the unboxing is like getting a new smartphone. The white ‘point of sale’ box opens to reveal a big and quite heavy hair brush and a heat resistant pad that zips up into a storage bag which looks very smart with it’s white faux leather exterior and shiny tags. A small cleaning brush is also included.
When you turn on the Duet, the switch lights up and there is a sound like a jet engine as it gets going, although this isn’t as loud as your average hair dryer. The bristles are quite hard and with the weight of the brush, handling it takes a little getting used to. Clearly, the more hair you have the more benefit you will get from it. The single heat setting doesn’t feel that hot so there is no overheating or ‘frizzyness’ of your hair and the drying process is quick compared to other hairdryers. There is definitely a volumising effect which is very effective.
This is an impressive offering from GHD but more of a luxury item than essential. I know any of my four daughters (who all have long hair) would absolutely love to own one of these!
Highly recommended!
Just WOW!
— First Impressions —
The box is huge and looks great. If giving as a gift then the recipient will be impressed. The top simply lifts off to reveal the brush and the protective bag, minimally packed and elegantly displayed. The aesthetic of the brush is clean and the black and chrome looks very professional. The leather effect storage bag is minimalist in design and the zipper is smooth and easy to operate.
— In Use —
I ran the brush for about 15 minutes outside before use. I have learnt that lots of gadgets like this need to burn off a protective coating on the first use, so I now run them outside for a while before bringing them indoors. I recommend you do this as the first run was a bit smelly.
There is only one button to get going and this lights up to let you know it’s on. Once ready, the brush makes a pleasant noise to let you know it’s ready to use. I then followed the instructions in the manual, which was quite straightforward.
– Brush your hair all over to dry it.
– Section your hair to curl or style individual sections.
The motor is nice and quiet (as these things go) and you can have a conversation while using it. It’s certainly a lot quieter than my blow-dryer.
The single heat-setting seems to work well and isn’t too hot so as to cause damage to your hair (or skin!) and not so cool as to be ineffective. A perfect ‘medium’.
— The Finish —
There was no frizz and no static but what impressed me the most was how bouncy my curls were. You know how in magazines they have those big, bouncy, vertical curls? I managed that on my first go!
— Conclusion —
It’s GHD, so it’s expensive but it’s also fantastic quality. I would expect this to last for years, so the total cost per year is going to be quite low. The effect I managed to achieve on my first go was basically salon quality, this is now my favourite gadget.
I wanted to use this a few times before reviewing.
Let’s start off with the packaging- 10/10. The ghd comes in a lovely (large) box and inside there is the device and a beautiful heat proof bag/mat. It’s great as the bag zips open fully and becomes a heat proof mat for when you are using the device.
Once the device is plugged in, you turn on the duet blowdryer with the one button and it makes a loud vacuum sound but once the device is hot and ready, it will quiet down.
The bristles on the brush are a bit hard and not what I expected but the size of the brush does actually bring volume to your hair.
It dried and styled my hair super quickly. There was a slight smell the first time I used the device but after that there was no smell.
The device itself is white big in size so would be more difficult to take travelling.
But the duet hairdryer is beautiful and well made and definitely keeps my hair silky.
It is on the pricer side but it is a lovely product and would make a lovely gift.
ghd Duet Blowdry- Hair Dryer Brush – Wet to Blow Dried with No Heat Damage, 3X More Volume, 24hr Long Lasting Results, Blow Dry with No Frizz, 50% More Shine
Lets get this out of the way first, its not cheap. Then again GHD products never are, but they are amongst the best or indeed the best you can get outside of a hair salon. The build is impeccable and although the dryer appears heavy at first, you soon get used to it. It comes with its own case and cleaning tool. It is very easy to use, styled hair quickly and didn’t need to use hair straighteners. The hair was left smooth with no fly away or static which is an amazing feat. Hair felt light and bouncy, and the look when finished was a total transformation compared to a brush, hair dryer and styling tongs. I really would totally recommend.
Packed neatly with minimal but clear instructions. The hairdryer is provided with a very neat, faux white leather, heat protected storage case. Perfect for tucking away or for putting in a travel bag.
With only one setting, once plugged into the wall and turned on, the device is very simple to use: Turn it on (and off) with the button on the front, which will light up and make a slight tune to inform you it’s good to go, and follow the photo instructions in the manual. With wet hair, brush the hairdryer through your hair lightly, like a brush, all over, to dry it through, before then sectioning the hair for more detailed attention and use of the blow dry functions.
It has a subdued sound, not nearly as loud as an average hairdryer. It did emit a very potent plastic smell on its first use, as well as a light smoke / steam during usage that did require the windows to be opened in the house – I’m hoping this will lessen with use.
The brush itself can get very hot on the tip and collar, so do be careful when handling, however, the heat setting itself, for the hair, seemed suitable and was kind on my scalp and forehead when applying it’s use on my fringe. It took about 40 minutes to dry my medium length (somewhat damaged) hair, drying the roots is a little fiddly but the bounce on the tips are very neat. You are able to lightly cradle the brush whilst it’s on to guide the direction of the hair, however due its heat I would advice not touching it entirely.
The final dry was neat, smooth and very bouncy! I was incredibly happy with the final results, especially considering I’m a hairstyling novice. It’ll only get better with practice. For those who are more skilled with hair styling, I feel like this would be incredibly easy and effective to use.
One final point I want to make is that It caused no static to my hair and didn’t once get caught or knotted whilst using it.
I’ve used other hot hair brushes but this is not like them. I struggled to get the hang of it at first and I also burnt my hand quite a few times. The bristles are hard plastic so you have to be careful not to hit your head with them as they hurt. It’s quite heavy as well. I didn’t think my hair looked any different to other hot brushes I’ve used. I like how it comes in a heat resistant storage bag, it does leave your hair shiny and it does add volume but I think it’s too expensive, crazy expensive actually when you can get pretty much the same result with a one at a fraction of the cost. It does come with instructions on how to use which is good.
This review is from my wife’s perspective as sadly I do not have enough hair to test it. I used to dry and volumise my hair separately so I was very keen to see if the GHD Duet Blow Dry could do what it claimed. First of all I have to comment on the packaging, it is amazing and even more so is the bag that is supplied to look after the Duet Blow Dry when not in use, and it is also heat mat, wow ! Everything about it was a big step up in quality and appearance, but then so is the price. After having a shower I put it to the test. This brush is heavy and the bristles section itself is large but from them on it is a game changer to my hair routine, it really does what it claims. I started with very damp hair and when finished it was dry, soft and had volume, the volume was quicker to get, and better, than my separate volumiser. I just need to get used to using it and its weight I have heard of GHD’s hair products as one of the best with its high build quality and performance, I have never heard a bad thing about them, but the price is another level. However, if this lasts a number of years then it will have been worth it and maybe that is how you look at GHDs Duet Blow Dry, a long term investment in an amazing product that makes a big difference to your hair routine.
The GHD Duet Blowdry Hair Dryer Brush is undoubtedly the best dryer brush I’ve ever owned, and it’s just as amazing as I had hoped, coming from GHD. I never expected it to transform my hair so quickly, which I found super impressive. The brush is very easy to use—you just need to make sure your hair is towel-dried and tangle-free since this isn’t a detangler. Slide the power button upwards, and it turns on immediately. Once the light stops flashing, it’s ready to go.
I used larger sections of hair since mine is quite thin, but if your hair is thicker or textured, you might prefer smaller sections. My hair is curly and, although thin, usually takes time to straighten with a straightener and tends to get frizzy. That’s why I often leave it naturally curly at home. This brush is a game changer! It’s easy to handle, though not the lightest, but I didn’t feel fatigued while using it. Be careful, though, as it gets very hot—after turning it off, I touched the bristles and burned my fingertips. My previous hairbrush cooled down much faster, but it didn’t reach this level of heat or performance.
The blow-dry was fast, effortless and left my hair frizz-free, which was the biggest surprise. My hair was bouncy, healthy-looking, and I even curled the ends for a lovely shape. I left it out of the box for over 30 minutes to cool, as it stays hot for quite a while. It also comes with a luxurious leather case and a small comb, all GHD branded. Needless to say, this would make an amazing gift for GHD fans and beyond!
At first when I saw this item I thought, would I use this? And when I thought about my actual hair styling routine – hairdryer then straighteners – I thought that this cuts out drying hair (or styling it) so I was quite excited to receive it! First of all, the packaging is honestly beautiful – it’s so posh! It really looks the part and would make a lovely present. Inside is even better as the brush comes with its own bag and little brush – the bag opens right out and is a proper full on heat mat which is even better! The brush is quite heavy to hold if I’m honest and absolutely huge, the bristles on the brush are quite stiff but also well made. I switched it on, you hear a slight noise and then the brush starts whizzing into life (once the second noise comes on the brush is ready!) – obviously your hair needs to be towel dry and not soaking wet for obvious reasons. I found the brush easy to use though, although when trying to roll it into curls I did get my hair stuck round the brush and panicked because I didn’t want to get injured. I will say that it did dry the hair but it did leave it a bit frizzy, and I need to practice it more – especially learning how to curl it. So I like it, but it’s going to take practice – I can’t argue with how well made it is though, it is GHD after all and I’ve never been disappointed. So just keep going I think!
