The keys are responsive, feel is good and ergonomically correct. But there are some distracting problems with it.
I bought it because I needed certain features; a full size keyboard, mechanical, wireless and Bluetooth connection for switching between computers. It functions correctly as expected but I’m not a fan of a few things.
The keyboard is so noisy, each keypress click is very loud. The battery life of the keyboard is tiny, I’m getting 2 days of life. Admittedly I have the light on all the time but at the lowest setting, without the lights on I don’t know what battery life you get. I am now permanently wired via usb so the battery doesn’t die although I’m using wireless and bluetooth connections. The keys are unfortunately very hard to read without the lights on because the contrast between the glyph and the key is not strong. On top of that the font used for the glyphs are illegible for most of the symbol keys. If you don’t already know where the #, &. *, %, $ symbols are you will struggle to find them, it really doesn’t help that the contrast is poor too. Switching between bluetooth, wireless and usb is on the underside of the keyboard!!! It should have been on the facing side, it’s also very hard to get the usb mode which is the middle setting, I use mostly wireless and bluetooth which is why it doesn’t cause me issues.
On the plus side, you get a pleasant surprise of 3 Bluetooth connections switchable via the keys :). I’ve not seen a keyboard that offers all 3 connections either, bluetooth, wireless and usb which I think is amazing. The keyboard light modes are incredible and so many modes. You can set the light intensity too, a fixed colour if you like, or patterns, you can even speed up or slow down the patterns like a Christmas tree. However, I am most impressed by the fact that you can fully customize the keyboard so that each key has it’s own colour light, or disabled per key!! and on top of that you can record 3 different sets of keyboard colours. The dial is great, you can change sound volume using it and you can also pause and start videos by pressing it, works with youtube too.
You also get a battery indicator so you know when your keyboard is about to die which I see a lot!
Switching between wireless and bluetooth is seemless, I’ve had no issues at all and it’s instant. I’ve not seen any problems with the keyboard going to sleep and missing a key stroke although I am a heavy keyboard user so maybe it’s not a factor for me, or the time to sleep is long (which could explain the battery life).
The pros of the keyboard significantly outweighs the niggles for me which is why I love this keyboard.
Great for games especially since it’s mechanical and all keys can be pressed and detected at the same time so it’s great for fighting games that require keyboard combos. It’s just noisy!
I bought the full size keyboard, and in terms of what it can do. The switches are very good, plenty of lightining modes to chose from, so in terms of functionality you can’t really fault it. As it is a budget keyboard through and through, the raisers on the back have only two modes, full plastic build (but its not flimsy or anything) – again, par for the course. There is one thing however that is definitely not good – the keycaps. To say it simply, they are horrible – they feel like caps from the cheapest, crappiest office keyboard you can find. They are simply bad – even for the buget keyboard. They rattle, scratch, and give you a feeling of typing on the sanding paper. I guess that when they were thinking how to keep the cost down, this is where the cuts were made.
But again, to give this keyboard credit where its due, once I have replaced them with a spare set, it became a very good, decent keyboard. Sounds miles better, rattling goes away, literally night and day difference.
So, all in all – if you have a spare set of caps laying around, go for it – for this kind of money you will be hard pressed to find anything better. You will get 4 star keyboard that can be easily recommended (for clarity – it costed me 29.99). If you do not have the caps and this is your first mechanical keyboard then you possibly want to give it a miss – there are better options available in this price range, even from Koorui.
So, this is my first mechanical keyboard. I’ve wanted one for as while as my typing isn’t great on membrane keyboards (I miss a lot of keystrokes as the feedback is poor). I didn’t want to splash out a lot of money in case a mechanical keyboard didn’t suit me either, but so far (OK it’s only been a day) so 30 is definitely at the lower end of the price range for what I needed.
My requirements were simple, I wanted brown switches (not as ‘clicky’ so won’t annoy others if I use it at work) and a UK layout. As someone who writes code for a living, I also wanted some specific keys located where they are best for me, e.g. the | key needed to be next to the left shift key.
So far I quite like it. My typing has improved within the first few minutes as I get much better feedback and I can tell when the keys are actually pressed, when typing quickly this helps a lot.
I like the big volume control on the top right, which also acts as a pause button for videos etc. The LED backlight has several different colours, I’m still experimenting to find the best one for me, so far it’s white or yellow. The colours can also be animated but that isn’t for me. The keyboard is quite heavy so it doesn’t move around when in use.
Here’s what I don’t like and the reason for only 4 stars.
– Some keys have multiple symbols on them, and the symbol you get depends on the layout you are using. E.g. my Number 2 key has the @ and ” symbols. I get ” as I have a UK layout, but it means the keys are a bit busy-looking.
– the font on the keys is quite modern and will take some getting used to
– the font could be bigger in some places, e.g. on the the ;: key (and some others) only the top half of the key is used to display the font, this could be bigger.
– I really could do with a larger Enter key as I keep missing it, I have large hands and some of the keys are tricky when typing quickly. I’m sure I’ll get used to it though.
All in all, I do like it, perhaps the downsides are more to do with the appearance rather than the performance, which itself is good. I just need to get used to it a bit more I guess.
I recently picked up the Koorui MKM01 gaming keyboard, and while it has some solid features, it does come with a few quirks worth mentioning.
The MKM01 shines in terms of connectivity options. You get three modes: Bluetooth, wired via USB, and 2.4GHz wireless. I’ve primarily used the wireless 2.4GHz connection, and it’s been impressively responsive with no noticeable input lag, even during fast-paced gaming. Bluetooth works fine too, though it’s best suited for non-gaming tasks or switching between devices. It’s nice to have the flexibility to switch between the three modes depending on your setup or use case.
One of the standout design elements is the volume knob, which unfortunately arrived loose on my unit. While this is a minor annoyance, the knurling effect on the knob feels great to turn, providing a satisfying tactile response. However, it would’ve been better if it had a more secure fit. Additionally, this keyboard does not come with any wrist support, which could be a drawback for those long gaming sessions or extended typing. I’d recommend getting a separate wrist rest if ergonomics are a concern for you.
As for aesthetics, the RGB lighting is customizable, and there are plenty of lighting modes to choose from. Whether you want a subtle glow or full-on rainbow waves, the options here will satisfy most RGB enthusiasts. The lighting is bright, and the colors are vibrant, which adds a nice touch to your gaming setup, especially in low-light conditions.
Typing and gaming on the Koorui MKM01 feels responsive, with the mechanical switches providing that satisfying clickiness many gamers love. The keycaps feel solid, and the overall build quality (aside from the volume knob issue) feels sturdy. It’s a good balance of performance and aesthetics, making it suitable for both work and play.
My son really likes this keyboard. The lighting options are great and the quality of the keys seem very crisp. He’s only had it for about 4 weeks, so I can’t comment on how long it will last, but after 4 weeks, it’s still working without any issues. The price seemed quite fair compared to others with similar features.
Keyboard works over both wired and wireless as described. It uses USB C so you don’t need to worry about damaging an attached cable as you can just replace it. It’s nice to type on with the kind of feeling you would expect from a mechanical keyboard with brown switches. Volume knob is cool, but it is easy to accidentally turn it when reaching for something else on your desk. Overall I am pretty impressed, especially for the reasonable prices these are sold at.
The keys are fully hot swappable which is nice to have and has 5 pin switch compatibility which is rare for a budget keyboard. The default red switches sound alright, but not the best.
RGB –
The rgb is full customizable with modes, different colours, and different speeds which I have again never seen on a budget keyboard. A downside to the rgb is that it uses north-facing LEDs which prohibit the use of Cherry style switches.
Materials –
The keyboard is fully plastic but it feels good quality and the keyboard is quite weighty which is good to see as it makes the keyboard feel more ‘premium’.
Accessories –
The box includes all the basic accessories that a mechanical keyboard should have like a USB-C cable, key/switch puller, and extra switches.
Ergonomics –
The keyboards shape feels good to type on and is by default at an angle so it is easier to use.
Drawbacks –
Obviously to save money they have removed feet from the keyboard so you can’t adjust the height of it, this would be a huge disadvantage if the keyboard wasn’t at an angle.
Conclusion –
The keyboard is a great budget option if you do not have lots of money and gives lots of potential for upgradability in the future compared to other keyboards in the same price range. If I had to suggest this keyboard to a friend or people I know, I would be more than happy to because of its great price and specs.
Very good had for a few hours and is amazing. Comes with extra switches and keycap puller so you can try the different switches. Easy to use and the blue switches are nice and clicky.
Comes with lots of rgb colours and adjustable brightness. Performs very well in day to day activities and gaming
I opted for the brown switches, which provide a satisfying tactile feedback akin to the blue switches but without the loud click. Typing on this keyboard is an absolute joy. While the keyboard itself is constructed from plastic, it exudes a solid and high-quality feel. What truly stands out is the incredible value this keyboard offers for its price point.
Here are some of the remarkable features:
Swappable Switches: The ability to switch out the switches is a fantastic feature, allowing you to customize your typing experience.
RGB Lighting: Although it’s not customizable through software, the keyboard boasts numerous lighting modes and presets that are likely to cater to your preferences. You can even individually illuminate specific keys according to your liking. I recommend experimenting with it; it offers many of the standard RGB profiles found in most programmable keyboards, all conveniently preinstalled.
Battery Life: The battery life is, without a doubt, exceptional. your range may very depending on rgb settings and daily use.
Build Quality: its made out of plastic but feels very sturdy and well build. no squeaks when the keyboard is bent.
Cons:
The most significant drawback has to be the connection type switch on the back. Unfortunately, there is no feedback when switching between the modes (USB, Bluetooth, and wireless dongle). This makes it feel somewhat cheap, flimsy and hard to click into usb mode.
The 2.4 dongle also needs line of sight and should be kept relatively close to the keyboard.
In summary, this keyboard has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance, features, and value for money. While it does have a minor drawback in the mode-switching mechanism, it’s a solid choice for anyone looking for a versatile and high-quality keyboard.
Anyway decided to upgrade to a full size and will enjoy an odd gaming session so like the additional multimedia keys and nice knurled volume control offered by this full size. A reasonable selection of RGB functionality with a couple of multi coloured breathing effects, single colour mode (can select base colour), a chasing light effect and a colour splash on key press plus a couple of fade in out modes so more than enough even for the most avid gamer. Personally I like the colour cycle mode.
Most importantly is how it operates, the keys are reasonably quiet with a good travel, little noise from the keys but the switches are silent so no issues typing around others. The key heads themselves are reasonably compact as the keys quite tapered so it can take a little getting used to you if you’ve been using a wider key (like you might find on a laptop). Full array of multimedia keys, very nice volume control and a complete numberpad finish of the design. Oh I should mention as well the keys are marked with US/UK and EU symbols so can be used with different OS layouts. Reasonably weighty it feels solid, it has a nice braided USB A to C cable for connectivity and so can easily replace or use an extra cable if you regularly take the keyboard away from home and they supply a key cap and switch pulleroff you ever wanted to swap out keys to Blue or Brown switches or if course if any were to fail. It does also have feet to the base which work but are only single position. Overall for the money it’s a great buy, have been using now for a few weeks and getting more used to it and it’s a pleasure to use.
