These are the style of shin pads I preferred to use playing football (and hockey!) some 25 years ago. They offer decent shin protection via the typical, solid pad, which is firmly held in place by a calf strap as well as the ankle guard and underfoot elastic – no constant need to readjust your shinnies. The ankle padding offers good support to the ankle, which is helpful if – like I was and still am – you’re someone a bit more prone to twists/sprains or ‘going over’ on your ankles, as well as protecting from any errant tackles. I ordered them for my 12yo who currently uses them for football and rugby at school, as well as training and weekly matches for a local youth team outside of school.
The design on the pad (the gold and black) is unisex, so these could be just as easily used by girls as boys, and the overall fit is good. Me of the concerns my lad had was whether the ‘stirrup’ under the foot would be annoying or irritating, but as I told him of my own experience, you can’t really even feel it once you’ve got your socks and boots on. Given how well he’s been getting on with them, and knowing I paid the same sort of price for this kind of shin pad as a teen in the late 90s, I feel like 14.99 is really good value for money. If, as is the case at time of writing, there’s a promo to get some money off, then they become extremely good value and well worth seeing if they suit your child more than the more commonly seen type.
These shin pads are perfect for my young footballer. They provide excellent protection without being bulky, and the adjustable straps ensure a secure fit that stays in place during play. The breathable material prevents overheating, which is great for long training sessions. They’re lightweight but sturdy enough to give me confidence that my child’s legs are well-protected. A must-have for any parent with a budding footballer!
Ordered this for our son who has recently taken up football. Previously he was covered in bruises on shins but not anymore. He finds them easy to put on and they stay in place. Price is reasonable, I would recommend.
These are good quality shin pads that have had a lot of use over the last few weeks as our sons training and league matches have got underway.
The shin pads have the ankle protection, just like my old Adidas that I always wore. This protection is rarely seen in later years but I always preferred and several times saved me from injuries when studs crash into your ankle.
The shin pads offer more than enough protection and are nice and lightweight and are well made.
Good quality shin pads that we would highly recommend
The added ankle protection is a standout feature—it’s great for preventing injuries and provides extra comfort during play.
The pads are breathable and fit well, thanks to the extended adjustable straps. My son says they’re comfortable and don’t shift around, which is crucial for him during the game. The material feels durable yet lightweight, and they’re certified for safety, giving me peace of mind.
They’ve held up well through several matches and practices, showing no signs of wear. Overall, these shin pads offer excellent protection and comfort, making them a top choice for any young football player.
I ordered these for my 10 year old granddaughter for her goalie duties. They are lightweight and very well made with the ankle strapping for extra support, the price is fair for these pads as they are a higher quality..so why did I drop a star?well I ordered what I thought was a kids shin pad setbut what I hadn’t realised was they are sized from a younger age. Therefore the size XS is actually for a younger aged child of 5-8 according to the sizing chart which I only noticed later.
Football shin guards usually consist of a shin guard body, straps (some styles are inserted without straps), sweatband and adjustable straps (some styles do not have this design). They are designed to provide all-round protection and a comfortable wearing experience. The main body of the shin guard is made of rigid materials such as carbon fibre, polyester or high-density plastic to ensure good resistance to pressure and impact.
Good material: High-quality football shin guards are made of breathable, high-quality materials, such as polyester fibre, which provides adequate protection and ensures comfort when wearing them. Some high-end products also use lightweight, high-strength materials such as carbon fibre to further reduce weight and improve performance.
Soft and comfortable: The parts of the shin guards that come into contact with the skin are often specially treated, such as wrapping the edges in soft materials to reduce friction and irritation on the skin. Insert shin guards are usually easier to fit on the leg and reduce discomfort due to their simple design.
High-strength protection: The hard material of the main body of the shin guards can effectively resist impacts and shocks from the outside world, protecting the bones and muscles of the lower leg from injury. This protection is especially important in the game, and can reduce serious injuries such as fractures and contusions caused by collisions.
Stability: Whether they are inserted or fixed, shin guards need to have good stability to ensure that they don’t slip or move out of place during sports. Fixed shin guards are secured to the calf by straps, while insert shin guards have a special design and material that ensures a snug fit to minimise wobbling during exercise.
I got these shin guards for my son, and while they turned out to be a bit larger than I expected, I’m not too concerned since he’ll grow into them. The quality is good—they feel sturdy and seem capable of withstanding a decent amount of impact, which gives me confidence that they’ll provide good protection. We’ve decided to keep them as a spare pair, and honestly, for the price, they are nice.
That being said, I did knock off a star because the sizing is a bit tricky, especially for an 11-year-old. It seems like you have to choose between going down a size, where the shin guards end up being too tight and don’t cover the entire area they should, or going up a size, where they’re too loose and don’t stay in place as well as they should. It would be nice if the sizing were a bit more precise, but overall, I’m satisfied.
