Usual UGREEN quality and it works out of the box. Rated 4 stars as I seemed to have a conflict with my router – kept losing the internet connection. Apparently this is not an unknown problem and I ended up using a switch.
I’ve been using this ethernet splitter to expand my home network, and it’s been working great so far. The ability to split one network cable into two and still maintain 1000Mbps speed for both devices is impressive. It’s a plug-and-play setup, so installation was quick and easy. The metal build feels durable, and the signal has been consistently stable. My only complaint is that it requires a 5V power connection, but overall, it’s a solid product for managing multiple devices on a single network line.
I’ve come to expect high quality products from UGREEN and this is no exception; in fact the finish on it is impeccable. My photos don’t really do it justice.
For less than 9 this is astonishingly well made.
The aluminium body and intricately moulded plastic facias really make it feel like a premium product.
The supplied USB cable is less-so; but absolutely fine and does the job.
As expected, performance is flawless. It is effectively transparent to my PC, achieving the realistic maximum throughput of my Gigabit LAN.
Highly recommended.
In a nutshell:
Things I liked:
+ It works as it should – i.e. a two port basic network switch. I have seen cheap devices which claim to be a 1Gbps network splitter that actually just rewire the ethernet cable so 4 of the internal cables go to one port and four to the other – the upshot being you’re restricted to 100Mbps, which is very slow. This is not like that. It is a genuine 2 port network switch and provides genuine 1Gbps to both ports without limitation.
Things I didn’t like:
– It requires a power source to function, but as it is a network switch, this should be expected. It doesn’t take much power and can be powered from a USB port using the included cable.
Do I recommend this?
Yes. If you just need two ports from one cable, this is a great option. If you need more, a cheap managed 5 port switch from TP link isn’t much more – about 12-15, depending on the casing. That would need its own power supply though, whereas this is USB C powered.
Turns 1 ethernet port into 2! Also USB C powered, which is super handy.
Works perfectly, but the amount of lights on it is quite annoying. They cannot be turned off either, so you will need tape to ‘turn them off’ as it were.
But works perfectly, has effectively given my Eero an extra ethernet port which was sorely needed.
Can recommend!
This is the usual great, well built quality that I have come to expect from UGreen.
The materials used is solid, and well constructed. I have used it to connect both my games console and set top box to the single ethernet connection I had behind the TV and it works excellent.
No dropouts and a good solid connection.
Very happy with it.
As a hot desk worker, this has been a good addition to my laptop bag.
This mini switch enables me to leach off someone’s existing network cable, allowing me to get onto the wired network rather than the less reliable wifi. I carry this, with a couple of short flat cables to ‘borrow’ a network connection from any desk.
The splitter is powered by a USBC cable which I plug into my laptop to provide it power. Cased in an aluminium shell with rounded edges, this is easy to carry.
I’m pleased to say this splitter works as designed and as intended. If like me you were a bit skeptical of this product as its listed as a “splitter” I think a more accurate description would be a 2 port network switch. I mention this because there are other non power splitters on the market but they do not allow you to use 2 connection at the same time. Or require you to install the splitter on both end of the cable.
Without going into too much details this Ugreen switch or “splitter” allows you to connect two devices at the same time. Both devices have will have a different IP address and can communicate at the same time. This means the switch is able to sort the packets between the two connected devices, hence while it needs to be powered.
I’m very pleased with this switch it is light weight but feels reasonably well built with its aluminum casing. Being powered by USB-C makes it somewhat more convenient to used is some scenarios. For 11 quid at the time of writing is on the steep side. You can get a 4 port switch for a tenner. As mentioned above this has the convenience of USB-C but then again other 2 port switches are available for less than this one.
Like I suspect many people these days I don’t have a vast number of devices connected via ethernet cable, however I do keep my various home automation bridges, hubs and HAOS host connected this way as they benefit from the rock solid reliability and are situated next to the router. Unfortunately my router is limited to 4 ethernet ports and I required a 5th for occasional usage. When I saw this device available on Vine it seemed like a good option rather than cough up a lot more for a fully fledged ethernet switch/hub which wasn’t really necessary.
There is a short-ish (1m/3ft) USB-A to USB-C power cable included but no power adaptor so you will need to provide a USB-A power supply of some form. This will not function without a power supply connected. The device itself is tiny so easy to tuck out of the way, or should you require this for use in an office is very portable. So far it is proving reliable with the devices connected through this happily going about their business on the network.
For only 11 if you just need to add one extra ethernet port this is a good value option from a brand which have become well trusted in recent years for providing quality hardware.
