We tried the cuisinart and this one side by side and this one is far more superior. The only annoying thing is having to put a brine in between the two pots and cleaning it out afterwards. Makes exceptional ice cream very easily.

It works really well and quickly. We use supermarket tubs of fresh custard and just add double cream and flavourings, fruit, chocolate, coffee, etc. You get delish ice cream in half an hour. Very expensive but oh so worth it. Great stainless steel bowl too so easy to use and clean.

No included recipe book but there are plenty for sale on Amazon. I bought the “I Love My Ice Cream Maker” book and it’s OK. The Magimix one is available online on their website. The included pamphlet has some good advice to help you become more of an expert in the whole process.

Don’t forget to get some tubs to put your lovely ice cream in.

I gave it 4 stars because of the lack of paper recipe book, the noise it makes and the high price. Also there aren’t many English language HowTo YouTu.be videos available, unlike for the Cuisinart (MasterChef) machine.

(Remember to pour the ingredients in when the machine is turning otherwise the beater will freeze stick to the sides.).

The instructions say to put salt water or alcohol in between the bowls for heat conduction but I’ve found it doesn’t make an observable difference.

I couldn’t remember what the symbols on the buttons meant so added Demo labels.

    IT WORKS REALLY WELL

This machine has a neat footprint. It is easy to use and makes the most delicious ice cream. The price tag was steep but well worth it.

This is without a doubt, the best kitchen gadget I own. It is very easy to use- literally idiot proof. Plug it in. Let it prechill for 5 minutes and then choose your setting- that is it.

The results are amazing. It’s become a regular Sunday thing for my kids and I- we select a flavour for next week and off we go.

You do need to learn how to make an ice cream base or sorbet syrup. Neither are hard and the information is out there in cookbooks and the internet.

Put it like this- both my kids don’t want shop bought icecream anymore. If that’s not a ringing endorsement then I don’t know what is! Plus it works out cheaper too!!

Too much palaver to make. I don’t want to make egg custard every time i make ice cream. I don’t want to make syrup every time either. My old machine all you had to worry about is that the the ingredients were cold at the start. You just added vanilla extract of making plain vanilla ice cream. A lot of nonsense about a simple procedure. Don’t buy it’s expensive rubbish

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersThis was a Lockdown buy, purchased partially in desperation to find something new to do in the kitchen !
Chosen after considerable research beyond the Amazon reviews-it’s not cheap and I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t wasting my money- it scored very highly everywhere I looked.

On arrival it was very easy to set up once we wrestled it out of the “Russian doll” packaging it came in; it doesn’t take up a huge amount of counter or cupboard space and despite being a chunky machine the integral handles make it easy to lift and move about.
The User manual is easy to follow and its very easy to clean after use.

The icecream it makes is utterly delicious – creamy and smooth and the 3 settings give you a choice of very soft scoop to traditional “hard” ice cream and takes very little time and effort to make.

All in all highly recommended – we love it and the kids have had great fun making up their own flavours.

A couple of tips if I may:
ALWAYS make sure you use brine or alcohol between the machine and the churning pan – it gets (obviously) really cold and I cant imagine trying to prise them apart without the lubricant between them.

Buy some cheap tupperware tubs to store your ice cream in – trust me once you get going you will want to have a choice of ice creams and even my greedy lot cant eat a litre of ice cream at one sitting.

Ice creams with alcohol in take more time to set – if you want to serve them immediately after churning give the machine more time to churn.

You can spend a fortune of ice cream books but in reality most of the recipes you will ever need can be found with a quick google!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThe best icecream maker. I’ve tried cheaper makes, this is nearly double the price but it is worth the extra. I do like the 2 hr keep frozen function, and the small footprint. Well worth the money would highly recommend.

Really great piece of kit. Obviously expensive. But it’s premium, works brilliantly and makes outstanding ice cream.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersI wanted to upgrade my vonshef ice cream machine which I had for over a year. It had a compressor, aluminium bowl, and worked reasonably well. However, it was noisy, kicked out lots of heat, and didn’t product ice cream as smooth as I wanted.

I looked at the musso machines used in gelato stores day in day out (800 – 1200) but that was a bit too much, and they only came with a year warranty.

Then I saw the magimix, I have seen that people have had the older model for nearly 10 years running strong. This model looks aesthetically fantastic and is relatively compact / well weighted so it is easy to put in a cupboard if required.

You can make granita, gelato, ice cream, and manually chill / mix with the button.

There are 2 stainless steel bowls, the fixed one and the removable one. I did make the salt solution and put this between the bowls as I thought it’d be easier to clean, it was not since you still have to clean the salt water solution (or alcohol) out.

The best solution is just to use the fixed bowl, and clean it with a sponge / clean cloth (water and soap) a few times. This is also colder – I recorded -40c inside the bowl and the thermometer kept on going down.

For best results let this pre-chill for 20 minutes, when it’s done put it straight in the freezer and let it set for about 4 hours (best results 12 hours).

As long as you have a chilled ice cream base, you have whipped ice cream consistency in 20 minutes or gelato in 15 minutes.

Very easy to clean the fixed bowl, and fairly quiet + it doesn’t kick out that much heat all things considered. Powerful motor too, I’ve had this for nearly a year, and I have no doubt this will last for many more years!

Great service / delivery speed from Amazon.

There are honestly so many free recipes online for ice cream. Just search up “best ice cream” or “best gelato” recipes. You can make your own custard base ones, granita, frozen yoghurt, ones without a custard base… It’s best to get the base ready 24h before in the fridge (nice and cold) so the flavours develop.

This is the “best” consumer grade / price ice cream maker with a good warranty, from a reputable brand. You don’t need a special recipe, it can do them all! I’ve known people with the old model that have used it regularly for nearly 10 years with no issue. I strongly believe this will last just as long, if not longer.

Best value + performance domestic gelato / ice cream machine

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWonderful ice creams etc. Very quick to prepare.

Amazon warehouse deal didn’t state the missing accessories. Amazon customer service was very poor to my mind, as is typical of my experience during the last year of using Amazon.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSo much easier to use than the freezer bowl design that I have used for many years previously. I like the large bucket size – no overflows so far. Much easier to pour into and get the ice cream out having a wide opening. Also much easier to add solid items whilst churning. Very happy with the quality of the ice cream. General construction seems sturdy and well made. Not sure of the value of having the removable bowl. I tried using salt solution at first and managed to get some into the finished ice cream – not pleasant – and thoroughly cleaning out the fixed bowl is rather fiddly with some salt having a tendency to collect at the base of the spindle. I wouldn’t want to make an immediate second batch in the fixed bowl straight after having salt in it. Alcohol (I used 40% vodka) works just as well as salt though and much easier to clean with less risk to flavour. Overall very pleased

have tried to register the product but find this very hard to do.
also on unpacking found two small cracks on the left side of the machine.
having said this the machine works well.
having been in the ice cream industry with a major Italian company for many years this is probably as good as it gets
for home use at a decent price.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersSimple, high quality machine that freezes very quickly. You need to put a salt solution or alcohol between the fixed pan and the inserted pan to get ice cream chilled properly. Otherwise it is entirely faf-free and produces very good, creamy ice cream. Have made about ten batches so far with consistent results. Expensive machine but appears to be worth it. However I have no experience of other machine with which to compare it other than freezer-bowl machines, to which this is obviously far superior.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersAlthough this is the Rolls Royce of ice cream machines we thought it worth the investment, as our last machine lasted us over 20 years, before we could no longer find a part to maintain it … the machine produces wonderful ice cream and is very simple to use .

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI’m a big Magimix lover. The parts are great quality, they make long-lasting products. The plastic parts are strong and go in the dishwasher. Easy to clean. Very reliable products.
Very easy to use. The Gelato expert is a semi-professional item and it keeps its promises.
The ice-creams and the frozen yoghurt are just amazing especially when you eat it immediately after making it.
Texture, proportions, everything is just perfect. Magimix provides a very nice recipe book.
I tried the pistachio ice-cream, it was just delightful. If you want to control the sugar, the amount of cream and make terrific dessert for impressing your guests within a short time …and stay thin : just buy it.
Ok it’s very expensive… so you might need to consider it first.
