Why does the tool indicate that live wires are everywhere?
The device detects cables based on their transmitted signals, which can spread across the entire wall due to the high conductivity of the walls.
What should I do if the tool displays different results for the same measurement?
Follow the step-by-step guide when using the tool and make sure that all measurements are performed in the same way. In particular, move the tool three times in each direction – under constant external conditions.
Why does the signal change when the tool is moved along a live cable?
The construction of commercially available cables causes fluctuations in the electric field strength at the surface, which influences signal detection, through to complete elimination.
Why do I have problems locating three-phase power cables?
In the case of live three-phase power cables (e.g. power connection for the cooker), the different phases of the cable cancel each other out so that the detector cannot detect the signal.
Why does the tool indicate metal objects on the entire wall?
The tool detects certain construction materials as metal due to the high iron content (e.g. aluminium foil on underfloor heating systems or metal-clad thermal glass wool insulation).

Easy to set up, easy to use
Good quality and well made. Easy to set up and use. Metal dectection is good. Live wire detection I am not sure this works as well as it didnt show a live wire but a different detector did.
Drilling with complete reassurance
I never thought about the usefulness of a detector until I got one. As I did not build the house I am currently in and don’t have any clue where cables are located I have been postponing some drilling work for a while. With this detector it took me minutes to decide about many pending drilling jobs. The detector is quite accurate and it informs me a lot about the house and it would be especially useful for people who don’t know the wiring of their properties and don’t want to cause any electrical damage or other issues when drilling
Expensive but well worth the price
At almost 100, this detector ain’t cheap, but I’m far more reassured using it rather than cheaper alternatives.
It’s a sizable device but very light and nicely designed, so it’s easy to hold and operate plus, the touchscreen display is responsive and intuitive. The whole thing is very well thought-out, with batteries included and a hole in the detector so you can mark the wall without having to remove the device and ‘hopefully’ mark where it was.
You can easily switch between the detection of current, wood, and metal, making for a fantastically versatile product. The detector is quick and accurate with its readings and provides both visible and audible alerts.
Very effective detection!
The touch screen LCD makes this very easy to use with tips and guidance displayed directly on the screen.
Effective detection of current, wood and metal is possible. We have trialled this around the house and it easily identified stud positions through plasterboard and even through a lath and plaster walls. Current is easily detected from nearby cables. I managed to detect joist positions even through a carpeted floor.
Make sure you earth the device when looking for cables by not wearing gloves and placing the other hand on the detection surface. Note: make sure the power is on, in the case of lightning circuits switch on the lights before detecting. It’s worth noting that 3-phase circuits cannot be detected so it may not be suitable for commercial applications.
The device calibrates as it is placed onto the surface which helps avoid inaccurate detection.
Overall very impressed by its performance, far better than the cheaper versions I’ve used in the past and much more accurate. Not sure if the LCD display is absolutely necessary but it makes using the device very simple.
More reliable than others
With lots of renovation projects underway since moving I have been relying on sensor devices to trace old cables that don’t follow the rules. I have been using a cheap unbranded one for ages but have really struggled with the reliability as it gives more false positives. This Bosch device is expensive compared to anything else, however, I have found it to be more reliable than anything else I have tried so far. The on screen touch screen works really well at giving tips to improve accuracy and the hole with a led ring makes it easy to mark the point with a pencil rather than moving the sensor down and guessing. For that this is good value for money with lots of projects to make use of it.
There are a few things I wish were better, it doesn’t slide along a wall easily, some shiny rubber feet would help. It also needs batteries which are included but I’d rather it was rechargeable.
