The mic is really good. Sturdy. Good quality vocals. At a price range, this really seals the deal. Note this a cardioid electrect condensor mic. If u are looking for a large diaphragm, true condensor mic, then go for the higher version.

This Mic is really good. I got it hooked up to a M-Track Solo Interface and It’s pairs well and sounds amazing. It also arrived just 8 days where as the expected was 20.

This is the best condenser mic at this price point. Excellent build quality. Excellent sound. Excellent for 99% of users. It easily exceeds any and all audio quality requirements for streaming or recordings that are transmitted over the Internet.

I’d recommend buying an audio mixer so there’s not any background noise but other than that its an amazing microphone with great quality

I got a nice bargain, it cost me 6.4k. It was either this or AT2020, Fist impression : it’s got a crisp sound, and there is so much more detail than my previous dynamic microphone.
I mainly use it to work on voiceover and to record instructions for school kids. It picks up quite a lot of frequencies. I have never heard my voice in such detail.
I was so impressed by this microphone, that I tried to record my valve amp using this, I had never managed to record a good balanced sound from my extremely loud Vox. This microphone with it dB cut, managed to get a workable sound.
Though I must mention, if you live in a place with background noise it’s going to pick up everything.
So,it’s kinda important to have a sound isolated room.

Naaiice, multi-purpose mic can fit a variety of usages.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI really like this microphone. Stunningly good build quality, great shock mount, selectable polar pattern, and a really good case. However, when I got it, it put out a pretty loud 60Hz hum that got much worse when my hand got near the mic. It was upsetting, because I thought it was a poor quality mic. I even went through the return process and got a RMA from Amazon. Then I noticed that when I wiggled the XLR cable a little bit, sometimes the hum went away, and the mic sounded really good. On a whim, I took the housing off the bottom, which wasn’t difficult. Basically just unscrewed and removed the bottom ring. I didn’t “do” anything inside the mic, and I didn’t unscrew the capsule or remove the basket. I put it back together, and it’s been perfect ever since. No noise, no wiggling the XLR cable. And the sound is great for my needs. I’m not sure what changed when I disassembled it, but something definitely did. I bought it as an inexpensive way to add a figure-of-eight pattern for use in mid-side recordings, but it sounds really good in the cardioid pattern. Overall, this is a great value for a durable microphone that sounds very good.

I wanted to upgrade my rather modest mic collection and felt a proper condenser mic was the way to go. I was between this and the AKG P120 as a replacement for my old Behringer C1. I had a $25 gift card and found a P220 used so the price was almost exactly the same as just buying a new P120, so I went for it and I’m so glad I did.

I performed a quick comparison by miking my bass cab with first the Behringer C1, then the P220, and lastly my Shure Beta57 just cause, why not…?! The amount of low-end depth that the P220 added while still maintaining a crisper top end and less of a nasal midrange than the C1 was immediately apparent. Next I want to see how well it captures my acoustic. This is my one mic to rule them all!

I’ve tried a couple of these mics. Had to send them back for poor performance. I tried this one and am very happy. It’s super clear and sensitive. For the price, it would be hard to beat. Well made, all metal and easy to use. Highly recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFor the price, this mic is well built. The sound quality suits me perfectly for recording vocals and acoustic guitar. The heavy duty screw in mic clip, is something that I wasn’t expecting. I did end end purchasing a shock mount shortly after getting the mic. Not that I will necessarily benefit from it, just hoping to eliminate a few sounds produced from banging the microphone arm or ikea desk everything is clamped to.

I have had this mic for a while now, and really enjoy the recordings I am getting from it with my acoustic guitar and spoken word. I do have an SM57 which I love for recording electric guitar and which does work well for acoustic, but sometimes the AKG P120 just sounds better (YMMV). Excellent quality!

I had recently bought a Behringer C3 and compared it to this AKG as soon as I got it. There really was no comparison. The sound just got noisier as you switched to the figure 8 or omni-directional settings on the C3. The AKG was clear as a bell, and I was amazed how transparent the sound is. This AKG is not too expensive, but a big improvement over the Shure SM-57 microphones I had been using. Get two!

Use for recording studio, upgraded from cheaper model. It makes the most difference when your raw input signal is the best it can be. Vocal, and guitar use, even in high spl massive overdriven application performs well above its pay grade. Unlike the cheaper model, you will need a pop filter, and the tv down the hall muted ;).
    Highly recommend AKG

UPDATE: I was able to return and get the same order. After using for a few months, I am quite happy with my purchase and already received a few compliments on the sound quality of my mic.

I received my order today 2/10/21 with the mic case broken.

The mic is nice and sounds nice for my voice (4.5 stars). However, seeing the damage on the case gives me pause that this mic may have sustained some kind of damage. Right now it sounds alright. As these things go, the problem might rear its ugly face once the return window expires.

It came in an Amazon shipping box that wasn’t damaged which makes me think the damage was sustained before shipping. My item should be labeled/priced as refurbished.

    Broken case . . . 3.5 STARS

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI have a home studio and was looking for the best condenser mic that would have the best quality at the best price. Like everybody else I was inclined to buy the AT2020 until I watched a video of a guy comparing the best studio microphones. His recommendation was AKG P120 and I was convinced to order one on Amazon. Boy, I am happy I made the right decision. This is a kill for its price. I like how it has increased the quality of my recording and output. I love this mic and will keep it.

BTW, I have not personally compared or used an AT2020 to judge this is better than or not. I am a big fan of Audio Technica and I am sure the AT2020 would be awesome too.

    One word, Wow!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this for work during the pandemic, as I have to do a lot of online talking and recording. I took the time to sit down and compare this to my Meteor mic and my built-in MacBook (what else is there to do during the pandemic?). I was really surprised. By comparison, my built-in MacBook mic sounded like I lived in a big steel drum: lots of ambient noise and unwanted reverb. The Meteor was noticeably quieter than the MacBook, but it still had a high level squeal/hum in the background. When switching to the AKG, the hum largely disappeared. I say “largely” because nothing is totally silent. By comparison, this thing is amazing. I’m not a professional musician or podcaster, but I have played my acoustic guitar straight into this, and I’ve done dozens of recordings of my speaking voice: it sounds really, really clean. My main recommendation for a good mic is that if you’re doing a lot of online material (teaching, podcasting, recording), the ability to eliminate that background noise will save your listeners literal headaches. You may not notice it right away, but if you listen for an hour or two, it’s likely going to grate on the listener.

Coupled with my Scarlett interface, this thing does everything I could want it to do. That said, I’m not a professional in audio at all. So more discriminating ears might find fault with this. However, I do not.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our Users… es rauscht halt doch a weng mehr als andere in diesem Preissegment.

Golden Review Award: 45 From Our UsersI just received the package today (7 Sep. 2020) and tested the product immediately. The microphone sounds crispy and warm. It sounds very natural to the ears. It is well built and the product is really sturdy – not made of cheap plastic. However, keep in mind that it is quite heavy (keep this in mind if you are using a cheap boom mic stand).
Now coming to the package i was so shocked and disappointed to find out that such an expensive item came without any proper protective coating. It was just packed with a think layer of its own cover and amazon sticker on it. And to my bigger dismay, I found out the package was already opened – meaning not a sealed pack.
I was immediately skeptical about it and checked it immediately. But it seems to be working perfectly which is why I decided to keep it and not returned.
It is my humble request to sellers: please pack any expensive and delicate items at least with some sort of foam or hard coating so that it’s not damaged while it’s being shipped. Because if the product gets damaged or scratched (which is no fault of the customer) we the innocent customers have to go through a hell hassle to request for a return or replacement or whatever.

Pros: 1.Onboard switch option for a bass roll-off switch and 20dB pad add to this mic’s versatility
    2. Good for both vocal and instruments.

Conclusion: This is a really good mic for those who are just starting out and also for those who are mid-range voice-over artists or singers. Voice sounds very natural and crispy.

For the price this is a perfect beginner home studio condenser. It is my first and it has clean crisp quality. I use it with the focusrite scarlett 2i2 usb interface and a macbook pro. This mic has great value for the price. You are getting a nicely padded hardshell case and a heavy duty metal shockmount. Extra shockmount bands are also included. I recommend you also purchase a pop filter and a sound isolation shield to enhance the quality of the mic. It is a condenser so it is very sensitive to background noise if a noisegate isnt applied via a DAW. Otherwise there is no hissing or any ambient noise that I detect thus far and it is holding up well. Highly reccomend

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis microphone is very good, one of the best for home recording. The noise level is very low and it captures the flat dry signals. I have tested vocal as well as acoustic guitar as soon as i recieved it yesterday. The sounds are very natural and thats what i was looking for since days ago. Thanks to Amazon and AKG for this piece.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI was building a home studio and needed a condenser microphone to add to the studio to record vocals with. This microphone is amazing. Not only that, but keep in mind it comes with a shock mount (Do not be the idiot buying one separately, like me). It works great, the vocals are beautiful and crisp and you can change the overall DB or curve on the microphone (For those who rather not post-mixing/mastering). I would definitely suggest this, especially if you’re not trying to spend an arm and a leg for a home studio.

Having a small budget I needed a good microphone that I can use with FL Studio. You have to be careful with the positive reviews these days as they can’t always be trusted sadly, well, this review is genuine. I’ve tested it on my new Steinburg UR 22C and it just works, very clear, very sensitive so you will need a quiet room to take advantage of it but the sound quality is excellent, not too much treble or base to the sound, just clear mid tones and a little warm which is a good thing for most people. I’m using it with FL Studio for voice and some acoustic guitar and it’s perfect for what I need and great value to boot! Don’t hesitate, just order it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFranchement excellent!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI like the AKG P220 so much that I bought a second one. My voice sounds great on the P220, the presence peak is just in the right spot. I use this microphone both for voice-over work and for my ham radio station. It works well in both applications; I gotten many unsolicited “great audio” reports from other hams. Very solidly constructed, i’m expecting many years of service. This microphone is an unbelievable value for the price!

I also have an AKG C214 and an AKG P170. The C214 might be a better fit for recording say, a guitar, but my voice just doesn’t sound as good on the C214, The P170 sounds OK on my voice, but its small diaphragm is much more prone to popping for voice recording.

Consigliato.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersPerformed a little test with this mic. Based on the good reviews and sale price, I figured this might make a good mic for vocal work or at least stringed instruments. I’m happy to report that it fits the bill nicely. Compared to an AT 2035, the sound is more warm, with less character in the mid range at 430 hz to about 900. I think the only thing was a loss of clarity in the 5 kHz range comparatively. Turns out that works very well for baritone ranged singers. I’ll keep the AT 2035 on my tenor and alto singers.

At this price range it is tough to find something with a perfectly flat response without some coloring, but it’s really about finding the cheap mics with the right color (frequency response curves) that fit your application. In this case I’d say this is good for male singers with deeper voices, or acoustic instruments in the viola or cello range. I haven’t tried yet, but a medium-low brass might be complimented well here too.

Overall, it’s hefty, has the right voicing stage to be useful for vocal singing and voice-over, and fits a budget anyone can afford. For a project studio on a reasonable budget, I think you will be satisfied.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersAs a home recording artist, this mic definitely met my needs. For the longest time, I’ve owned the AKG Perception 120 (the old model), and I’ve never had a problem with this mic. The main reason to why I bought the P220 was so I can change my setup to have one mic for recording vocals (the P220) and the other mic for recording YouTube videos (Perception 120). The shock mount for the P220 is being used for the Perception 120, and it fits the mic perfectly. Both mics are basically the same size, so I figured that it would work. The build quality on the P220 is rugged and tough, and the functions are very simple. You have 2 main settings: the bass roll off, which is great if you want to record without having to deal with any unnecessary low end frequency that the mic picks up. The other setting cuts off the signal by 20db. From my experience, it’s best use is if you have a noisy background, and you don’t want that to bleed into the mic. It basically isolates the signal to only be heard right in front of the mic as opposed to everything in the environment. I would be lying if I said that were some things I don’t like about it (because I simply LOVE AKG products) but for other people, this might be too simple of a mic compared to other more expensive mics. The sound of this mic is warmer and more direct than the AKG Perception 120, so I felt that it was better for recording vocals. However, the Perception 120 still crushes it in the studio. Some people might consider a different taste in sound compared to other mics, but for me, this mic suits my needs perfectly.

The AKG Perception 120: AKG Perception P120 Professional Studio Microphone, Sliver

So, here are my pros and cons:

    PROS:
    – inexpensive
    – simple settings
    – versatile (vocals, guitar, etc.)
    – rugged

    CONS (possible opinions of others):
    – too cheap
    – too simple (not enough settings)
    – not preferred taste of sound
    – too heavy

BEST OVERALL MIC FOR RECORDINGS!!! (Recordings and even YOUTUBE!)

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGood bang for the buck. The included shock mount and the fact that the mic screws into it is simply brilliant: ensures a stable recording platform. Definitely needs a pop filter, and you have to watch your sound levels carefully as you get close to it – but I think that is common to most condenser mics. It is very sensitive to background noises and electrical hum, so you have to watch where you set it up. Overall, I am extremely satisfied, good piece of kit, looks and feels sturdy as blazes, and comes with good quality carrying case, shock mount and spare elastic. Beyond that, quality of your results will vary based on your skill level and what other gear you are connecting it to.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFor the price, this mike is fantastic. I use it at various karaoke places I frequent. One KJ knows what he’s doing and the mike sounds great, the other guy about died because he was not fond of condenser microphones. The one that had a problem kept saying ‘but this is a condenser mike’ – and to be fair – he was working in a much smaller room and his speakers were right behind the microphones. But besides driving him to distraction the mike sounded ‘ok’ there, but was kind of ‘flat’. I think it was the adjustment and not the mike because it sounded great at the other place.

Bottom line, this mike produces a wonderful ‘clear’ sound. If your using it in a live environment, you need to have a sound man that knows what he’s doing. But the mike itself is great, especially for the price. I couldn’t afford the one’s for thousands of dollars. They might be better, but personally I can’t see how.

I am in the process of purchasing creative gear for YouTube and obviously music. I have a Scarlett 2i2 that I hook this baby up to and the quality I get is amazing! I’m definitely going to be using this for podcasting, acoustic music sessions, and YouTube reviews/cartoon dubs. I suggest this mic for the general consumer, if you’re just starting out and getting into recording gear or you just want a mic that’ll do an excellent job for you and last a few years I can confidently say this mic is the one for you.

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersI am very impressed with this mic. I have been recording vocals in professional & home studios settings for about 25 years, and the quality of this mic is amazing by any standard. I have used $3k (Neumann U87) mics all the way down to $49 MXL’s (SP-1, v250, 990, v67, 910, 2006, etc.), and I’ve also used many dynamic mics as well, shure sm58, sennheiser e838, etc . This AKG is a great large diaphragm condenser mic & I have to say I prefer this over the others I’ve used…this just fits my voice like a glove. I have a raspy deep voice & this mic does my vocals justice without adding any “color” to it, it just sounds like me…and that’s exactly what I wanted. It is crisp & clear and warm. I will be testing it later with my tube pre amp and I’m sure it will sound even better. Right now I am running it through a tascam US 2×2 and it sounds great. So far I have tested it on rap vocals and rock vocals with excellent results. I barely have to touch the eq, if at all, this saves me time while mixing down a track. It comes with a very sturdy shock mount, heavy and solid…much better quality than the mxl shock mounts I’ve encountered. It also comes with a replacement band for the shock mount, an adapter for both size mic booms & an awesome case. The mic itself is pretty heavy, made of thick metal and the chrome grill with the matt black finish looks great. It has a bass rolloff switch and a -20db switch as well that can come in handy when recording electric guitar from an amp or something of that nature. Remember, you will need a 48v phantom power source for this mic. I would have expected to pay much more for this mic. Thank you AKG for another great product!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt is a piece of technology the respects itself and the logo imprinted on it: AKG.

I have used it quite a few times and the accuracy of the sound is impressive.

Can produce a great sound in different acoustic environments, from small chambers to large hall, from good quality acoustics to not so well sounding rooms. Being a professional level microphone one should first learn a bit how to use certain types of microphones and acoustics, but even for a beginner it will prove very useful because it is a very forgiving tool that performs great even in less ideal settings (although one can notice a slight difference)

Amazing build and amazing performance for its level.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersJust got this microphone last week to use as an overhead for my drum kit. Working to a budget so only using microphones on the snare and bass drum. The AKG Perception offers switchable control over how it picks up signals. This is a very sexy looking microphone with a powder blue finish and excellent tooling. It oozes quality and is quite a heavy piece of kit. It comes in a equally sexy case ideal for keeping it safe on the road. The shock mount cradle supplied with it ensures clean pick up of signal and is well made. So how does it perform?

I play in a Deep Purple Tribute band so quality and volume of sound are paramount. I selected the Cardioid pattern and placed the Perception over the middle of the kit bringing it in from the front, slightly biased over the two floor toms. Pick up was superb and it gave detailed sounds of the toms and cymbals which were very clear. I haven’t tried the other settings yet as the Cardioid was so good. Tried bringing it in from the back of the kit slighty to the right of my head at the maximum height of the microphone stand. This also gave excellent results. This set up will only ever be used for live work for me, but I’m sure this would be an excellent choice in the studio as well. This microphone is very sensitive so be careful when its overhead. If you mutter under your breath, or grunt when your playing every one will hear you!!

The instruction booklet that is supplied is easy to follow and does not blow you away with “technojargon”. Only problem I found was the counter weight on your mike stand needs to very substantial due to the weight of the Microphone. I had problems with the stand tipping forward. However this is no fault of the Microphone and I solved the problem by gaffa taping the stand to the stage floor. What would us drummers do without Gaffa tape?

Very happy with AKG Perception 420, and when funds are better I will buy another and use two overheads. Excellent product and excellent service via amazon.
