Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersJust tried this out on a few thin branches.
Chopped it up very well. Plenty of power.
Handles woody and green stuff with ease.

I bought the Bosch bag to go with it. It’s no better than the large shopping bags you buy in a supermarket for 1

Works fine on straight branches big enough to fit through the loading guards. It chops finer twigs into 3 inch segments rather than shredding them. It can struggle with bushier branches as the opening is a slot. You might need to pre-trim them flat. The blades do go blunt. My first project was a mature shrub and the first edge didn’t last long after that. Now I’m on hedge management and the blades have produced more bags of chips without going blunt.

Nice compact unit for shredding general garden waste. I was a little disappointed it didn’t come with a collecting bag but I found a large tub bucket that fit neatly underneath.

It was a bit fiddly to put together. My old fingers aren’t as good as they used to be.
It’s only been used once and it did an impressive job. Look forward to the weather improving to get it out again.
Fitted cable is not long so an extension is required to get it close to the bushes.

It does exactly what you need in a garden. Easy to use, and makes best use of space in a recycling bin by cutting all waste up small.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersShreds up to 40mm as it says on the box. Any thicker than that and it’s for the log pile
The blue ikea bags fit perfectly underneath so no need to purchase the optional collector sac. Easy to unclog if needed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe wish we had bought one of these years ago! We have a fairly big garden, with several trees and a lot of shrubs, and after pruning, we used to have a lot of branches to dispose of. This Bosch shredder is sturdy and works extremely well. It saves us an awful lot of work and is very easy to use. It is heavy, but has two wheels which makes it a little easier to move, but we use it near the electric point in our garage and carry the prunings to it, rather than try to wheel it too far. Works a treat. So pleased with our purchase. Pricey in comparison with others, but worth the extra money.

I bought this to help manage a medium size garden and it’s just great.
It does work pretty smoothly and I can process stuff quickly and getting nice mulch in the end.
I think that it could/should feature a way to secure a bag to receive the cuttings: I don’t see anything to do that and bags can slip from under the device while working with it.

It replaced an old cheaper Black and Decker. I have a large garden and it’s great for shredding material for compost and for for thicker wood which I use on garden paths. I wish I had bought this years ago.

very good product, with a low noise level compared to some. it does tend to jam if wet branches are put through, but is very easy to clear.

Neighbours have one of these and I was impressed with it. Works really well but the only problem I have is that when shredding branches of things like roses, the branch is only cut into long thin bits rather than chipped. A small niggle thats why 4 starsand not 5 stars.

Amazing piece of kit. Wish I got one sooner. You have to have a keen eye though, to estimate the size of what you are putting through. Otherwise it jams up. Not happy with the fact it doesn’t come with any clear instructions apart from the little pictures embossed on the side. Other than that 5stars.

Easy to set up and use. Make sure you wear safety glasses in case the branches you are shredding catch you in the face. Could have done with a longer mains lead, I needed to use an extension cable most of the time. It was a lot quieter than I was expecting. Very happy with my purchase though.

Very solid shredder. Heavy and hard to manoeuvre, but once in place it won’t move or wobble! Excellent safety features: it will switch off or not start when the bucket is removed or when the feed chute is unlocked. Useful feature is the blade adjustment. You just turn the click knob until the blades just start to scrape against the cutting plate. The cone-shaped blade basket turns steadily – not like the frantic impact shredders – meaning it is not a noisy machine. Whilst shredding I was visited by a robin and some pigeons! The specs state 230 Kg/hr, and it certainly shreds a huge amount. Never blocks – even if chips do get stuck they don’t jam it up. All you do is unplug, remove the chute, poke the bits out and away you go again. The fact that the blades turn all the time means it can clear itself whilst you get more herbage for it to chew on. Easily copes with 20-25 mm stick, but just be careful to stand back as the sticks flick and jump about. If you do accidentally over-stuff the hopper, you can pull the herbage back since the blades only really get fed by gravity so it is easy to pull sticks out to re-arrange. The only disappointment is the pathetic stuffing blade. It has a ridge around the edge which all too easily jams between the herbage and the hopper guide ridges. It is also bendy. Considering this is 350+ worth of kit, I am sure Bosch could have produced a stout stuffing stick. How that item passed design quality and control is a mystery. I used a sacrificial stick to poke items into the blades which worked much better. So cons: weight and feeble stuffing stick. Pros: steady and efficient, never jams, acceptable noise, huge hourly capacity, safe to use, worth the money. Make sure you sign up to Bosch to get your 3+ year warranty.

You have a need to shred lots of bush / tree cuttings regularly. It is..
    Easy to set up (doddle)
    Very quiet
Able to shred effortlessly to the size specified, endlessly, all day.

Mulch collects in a removable box at the bottom that we transfer to bigger bags and then put on the compost. I’ve not had it long enough to see whether or not the composting works, but it’s great at what it does.

Easy to setup. Easy to use. Pretty quiet considering what it does. It is a little top heavy and awkward to manoeuvre but that is noted on other reviews. Pull like a heavy wheeled suitcase at a steady pace and its fine.
Blockages are a learning exercise on how much you can feed it how quickly, easily cleared.
great piece of kit for the garden.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe have a large vegetable garden as well as a big garden so it generates a lot of prunings and stalks that need disposing of. I’ve just upgraded my compost bins so they’re large enough to cope with the volume so having a shredder to chip everything up small enough to compost quickly was essential. I was going to buy the Stihl domestic shredder but no-one had any stock for a few months so I looked around for the next best thing. The Bosch had good online reviews and for the price its going to be a good investment. It works a treat IF you push soft cuttings through SLOWLY but it handles woodier cuttings up to 30mm pretty well. I would have liked a wider throat to load and of course there are those available as expensive petrol shredders but all round I’m pleased with how it handles anything we cut and if it does jam up, as it inevitably does when shredding softer stuff, its easy to remove the front cover and clean out around the blades. Good safety devices, the machine can’t run with the cover off and handy push STOP button if anything gets jammed.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersLittle and large the old defunct AXT Rapid 2200 we have had for decades, often loaned out to friends for years. The aluminium cutter block 157 piccy 3 broke. Can get new delivered 194 so a no brainer parting ways. Works by crushing is not ‘impact’
Eventually decided on the AXT25 TC as it had benefits over the old AXT2200 in regards storage, capacity and ability to chomp through other materials such as cardboard and plastics.
Most of the negative comments are about its dire cutting and todays society, well its common sense to adjust you dont need a manual to tell you to even though it tells you to go figure.
2nd piccy is as it comes, though should have took another piccy feeding it back in again after adjusting.
3rd piccy shows a pile about 5ft tall x 6ft x 12 ft long bushes and twigs munched down to fill the green bin. Some on the top is dried leaves.
In all a very good home shredder that you have to use the bin provided, though is a lot larger than most and only clogs when it needs emptying.
Have only been able to feed in up to 31mm dia, it wont feed above that if the twigs curved, the hopper puts pay to that. Around that diameter you will hear the motor change note. I would be weary of it cutting above 40mm unless soft wood.
Since the other AXT2200 packed up, first thing we did was feed back in this time to the AXT25TC. Instead of crushed wood as long as 14″ the AXT25TC cut it approx 12mm thick.
AXT25TC works by a larger hollow cone shaped ‘cutter’ rubbing up against a similar aluminium but tapered plate, hence why the debris is a certain size and small stuff falls through the cone.
This now is the only Bosch item working i possess, all the dozens of others have long packed up including Pro tools.
In all very expensive though a good shredder that infringes on more powerfull petrol driven shredders.

Is this the best DIY shredde

Purchased in 2016 and still going strong today. It did stand idle for almost 12 months so did some quick maintenance by unscrewing and removed the black top box from the head sprayed in some PTFE after cleaning the blades and she fired up straight away without any issues.

  23. James Alcala says:

Really good for fresh branches that you can ‘lop’ with long handled pruners – that’s 25 mm or an inch. It will shred bigger but why bother? Bigger than that size can go on the fire or the back of the car to the tip. They burn without much nuisance smoke as no leaves and could always be used as fuel for a friends burner – if you have a chainsaw to log them . . .
The problem with branches is the side branches. This shredder has a gearstick mesh shaped guard which stops your fingers going into the moving blades. This means that using the loppers you need to trim side branches to fit depending on how well they bend. This makes feeding the shredder a continuous job. My pile from a felled hawthorn tree looked daunting but I got through in a couple of hours to mulch on the compost heap and a neat pile of logs for a fire. I’ll try and upload photos. I’m pleased!

If you can lop it you can shred it!

Exactly what I expected from Bosch – great quality, easy to assemble, relatively lightweight with good safety mechanisms in place. It’s expensive – that’s true, but it’s a safe bet. I didn’t want to spend a couple of quid less on something that might break the same year. I use it for small to medium-sized tree branches, twigs, etc.

I was a bit concerned about this product because of previous reviews and how it would perform but it’s completely brilliant. Easy to put together (you only need to put on the wheels) and you’re ready to go. Completely gobbles up all types of branches, I turned a massive pile of branches into wood mulch that I’ve used as decorative bark clippings within 30 mins. I can’t speak highly enough of this product.

The last Bosch shredder we’ve had for about 20 years and the on/off switches gave up and are now not available. This successor is brilliant, about half the weight and so much easier to unclog if you overdo it with too many leaves.
Easy to move about and it shreds better than its predecessor. Worth every penny.

After the old Al-ko shredder that I’d had for 10+ years died, I was in the market for a new one. I rarely purchase on impulse, preferring to to do plenty of research first. This was no different. There were one or two poor reviews for this, and I always read the negatives, as I find the glowing positive reviews are often based on a single use (or even worse, what it looks like without any use!) However, the positives far outweighed the negatives and seemed genuine, so I decided to bite the bullet.

This review is based upon 3 years of fairly light use. I’d say it gets a run-out around three or four times a year. I agree it’s a lot of cash for such light use, but the key is, it earns it’s keep when needed. My old Al-ko wasn’t really man enough to tackle branches over 20mm. I’d spend more time clearing blockages from the unit than actually shredding. (My fault for trying to do things too quickly and overloading it)

Before I tell you how good the AX25 TC is, I think I should clear a small point up. In the marketing text, it states this will deal with green waste. Now please do not equate “green waste” with “weeds”. Green waste refers to freshly cut branches, not bunches of stinging nettles. This unit will not do a great job on soft waste. Give it the stuff it was designed for and you’ll see what it can do.

I reluctantly had to take down a medium sized oak tree and after saving what I could for firewood, I was left with several very large piles of smaller branches. This would have been a mammoth task using my old shredder with a lot of the branches needing to be trimmed. The thicker ones wouldn’t go through and would need to be manually cut into short pieces for disposal/composting. A job such as this would be a very good test for my new acquisition. The first branch I fed in was chewed up in seconds, as was the second. Growing in confidence, I decided to give the AX a real test and selected a particularly bushy off-cut with a base diameter of at least 40mm (sorry, I didn’t measure it) with multiple branches and sub-branches coming off the main stem. I fed it into the maw of the AX and watched in awe as it munched through the complete off-cut without a hiccup. It continued performing at this level and I completed the branch disposal operation in a couple of half-day stints – far quicker than anticipated.

Now I’d be lying if I said it has dealt with everything I’ve thrown at it. The odd item has jammed and activated the auto-stop, causing me to use the reverse button, but that’s invariably been down to me attempting to force the shredder to digest a branch union that way exceeded the 40mm max size

It was in use again last weekend, dealing with an overgrown leylandii offcuts (true green waste!) with no complaints, which prompted me to write this review. One big plus point is it doesn’t rely on having razor sharp edges to work. Rotary shredders rely on their cutting blades being sharp to work as expected. It is so easy to blunt them (when you fail to completely clean a root for example.) I haven’t noticed any significant degradation in shredding performance since I’ve been using the AX25

The only real negative I can find, is it’s weight distribution. You have to be careful when wheeling it over uneven ground as it has a distinct tendency to tip. Mine has some of the external plastic broken when I was unable to save it from crunching into the ground…

So, to summarise. If you want to shred weeds, lay them on the grass and run a rotary mower over them. If you need to deal with woody garden waste, The AX25 TC is simply brilliant. It’s powerful, reliable and will reduce a formidable heap of woody waste to a pile of chippings with ease. I wouldn’t be without it.

This chipper, or as it is known in the house The Chopperizer, tackles anything you chuck at it. By anything I do mean any kind of branches, leaves or grasses (not mown lawn but that is already chopped so why would you do that?)

The only times I have thought it’s not doing so well is because the chopped material has built up underneath the cutter output. A little shake of the collecting box and you can keep going. Not every branch is chopped, if it’s quite soft it can just keep squeezed and bent into the output. I cleared a lot of thorn bushes and newer growth was stubborn. However it still achieved what I wanted, which was a reduction of volume and the opportunity to either fit more material in my garden waste bin or composting bin. This means we can clear and manage more of the garden at a time without having to stop due to lack of space.

I also have to say that it’s pretty quiet for what it is doing, the most noise coming from when you turn it off and the speed reduces to a halt (gears and all that) but it’s not noisy at all. In fact it really has the most satisfying chomp chomp when you feed it.

Final thoughts on manoeuvrability… yes it’s heavy and awkward but I didn’t find it difficult to move around so long as you don’t lift it too much otherwise the top-heavy nature of it means it’ll want to up-end itself. I think Bosch could have helped by providing easier grab points but I’ve only ever moved it around with the top feeder bit in the collection box – maybe I’m supposed to use that handle and now I think about it…. oops perhaps they did think of it. Will have to try next time! Whilst I’m sure moving it around might be important or harder for some, once it’s in position it really does a great job so I wouldn’t mark it down on that basis.

So far it works excellent on chipping tough leylandeii, yew and budlleia branches thick and thin. Important: Don’t forget to initially “finetune” and move the aluminium anvil slowly against the cutting rotating head until light shavings of aluminium appear in basket otherwise you end up with thin branches twisted around the cutter head. There is a safety cut out if you put sticks in that are too thick. Not super fast but works really well.

Effective and quick and easy to deploy. When the blade is sharp, it makes short work of fresh shrub trimmings up to at least an inch. Dried stems are more difficult. The blade has two sides and could last for a couple of seasons in a large-ish garden. Spares are available. This is the second machine we have had; the first lasted for five years.

Should have got one years ago. Shredders used to be quite laborious to feed and slow but this rips through it. I get 4-5x more waste in my green bin, have ample mulch for the garden and a better, faster compost heap. Very easy and fast to use, I have definitely pushed it and it’s chewed up everything. Blades last well and can be turned over and also reground a few times if you like. Another great Bosch product.

  35. SheritaP60 says:

I use it to deal with copious green garden waste, too large to compost and too green to burn.
    Positives:
    – Much quieter than I’d expected
    – No significant blockages. It works best when there’s a branch that can be picked up by the cutters. Any leafy build up can be easily cleared by pushing a branch through (side branches drag the build-up through
    – The collection box is a good size, big enough so it doesn’t fill too quickly and not so large it’s awkward to transport
    Negatives:
    – The machine is quite heavy and the pulling handle is the same width as the machine, which is quite narrow for manoeuvering over rough sloping ground
    – The shredded material is a bit larger than I’d expected and will take some time to compost.
    – The feeder is fine for branches, but rather shallow and narrow for leafy handfuls. A removeable funnel would have been handy

Arrived “instantly” as always with Prime so down to work processing garden trimmings after a 10 minute unbox and assembly. It makes a good whine when running and with tougher sticks it is temporarily noisier than that. This is unavoidable given how it (and others of similar type) work so wear ear plugs or defenders!
I “processed” trimmings and cuttings from a cherry tree, Fatsia bush, laurel and holly bush and only avoided substantial branches and junctions. Several boxes of mulch resulted and were deployed around the garden. A lot of material had leaves on and these were broken up pretty well too.
I have been impressed by this device which I see as a garden waste processor rather than a tree surgeon’s chipper. Fed a sensible diet it works very well. Not sure what to feed it? Start small and work up in size – it’ll let you know when it is is at its limit.

I bought this shredder after a lot of research and reading the various helpful reviews from other users and watching a couple of You Tube videos of the shredder in action.
I have been impressed with the power and its ability to digest the larger branched with ease. An added bonus is that it is not nearly as noisy as our last high speed shredder.
Two points that I really like. The reverse action which instantly releases any jammed material and the large plastic box that slides underneath to catch the shredded material which is easy to remove to empty.
Be warned though, this is a heavy machine and although it is on wheels does require care moving around the garden to avoid tipping it over.
Overall very satisfied and if you register with Bosch you get a 3 year warranty.

handy chipper for small-medium sized gardening jobs. The advertised 45mm diameter shredding is overly optimistic as a branch that diameter won’t actually fit through the grating; 30mm hard wood branch is more like it; more for soft greens. A handy tool and low noise.

Nice light weight and easy to use. It doesn’t come with a bag or box to collect the chippings but a plastic storage box works well for this. Chippings take up less space in the bin and can be used as mulch around the garden. There are cheaper versions out there but happy with my purchase as it looks like it’ll last and you can buy replacement blades etc.

I have owned a Bosch AXT Rapid shredder for >10 years; this has a rotating blade but of late the centre mount had become unstable, meaning it didn’t keep a wide enough opening for cutting. With a large quantity of hedge trimming to shred, I needed something to quickly shift the volume of material. The AXT 25D was certainly helpful and safe to use with the constraint of not chopping narrow twigs. I also will need to learn how much to alter settings to fully chop through the larger stems as well. I require suitably small pieces for incorporating into a compost mix or for mulch. Overall satisfactory with the caveat of needing a second shredder for small pieces, but that also takes more time to finish the task. I wonder if it’s possible to design a combined crushing action with a cutting blade?

  42. Anonymous says:

The only criticism is the machine is quite top heavy. It’s sturdy and stable in use, but care must be made when moving the shredder on its narrow track wheels. I’ve had cheaper shredders that would clog, both bladed and rotor system with revolving cogs. This Bosch product uses a turbine that rarely jams and can take almost any type of garden waste. I considered a petrol chipper which would have been far more expensive and overkill for the average sized garden. I can recommend this machine for anyone that has had a cheaper alternative product before, or a first time buyer; you won’t be disappointed. Occasionally you may need to use the supplied plastic “wedge” to compact loose material, but overall this is an excellent product.

Powerful, even with damp or green wood.

Really my only gripe (and word of caution) is the model designation. Bosch currently offer two VERY DIFFERENT shredders with almost identical appearance and names: the fantastic AXT 25 TC, and the cheaper AXT 25 D. You could be forgiven for thinking one is just a slightly different model of the other (perhaps for a different market, or higher power rating, or new colour scheme), however the cutting technology is completely different. You can google “bosch axt 25 tc vs d” to find out more, but the long and short of it is that the D only handles woody materials, and is prone to jamming; the TC will handle anything, from thick branches to vines, brambles, leafy material, damp soft shoots, and even cardboard – and it hasn’t jammed on me once. Of course, it is rather more expensive.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This thing weighs a ton, it’s not easy to get up and down steps with it. It does cut very efficiently with woody tree & shrub prunings, but is pretty rubbish at dealing with anything fibrous or soft – prunings from large ornamental grasses in particular clog it up, as do large quantities of fresh leaves. I thought for the price I’d be getting something significantly better than your average impact shredder or drum-cut shredder but it’s not what I’d hoped. It does seem pretty sturdy and well made though. I think if you’re mostly chipping small-medium woody branches it’d be fine. It clogs just like every other shredder I’ve used when it comes to mincing up palm fronds or Miscanthus x giganteus stems though. It’s pretty quiet. Certainly compared to an impact shredder anyway.

It’s not a bad product at all, it’s just not quite the technological leap forward I was hoping it could be. Perhaps if the cutting turbine was bigger and span faster it might deal with fibrous, soft plant material better?

This shredder is wonderful for shredding leaves and twigs as it converts it into a lovely fine mush so it decomposes very quickly and is so much easier to turn and allow oxygen into the heap.
Unfortunately it comes without a hopper and you are unable to buy one. However, I purchased a plastic box, cut a hole in the bottom and strapped it to the shredder. And voila, I have a hopper!
    A joy to use.

We have about an acre of garden with numerous trees, shrubs and hedges. Even with six full size garden wheelie bins to fill fortnightly, we always have a large surplus of garden waste from work such as hedge trimming. This shredder has so far done a good job with a large amount of material including some long and thick cuttings. It seems powerful and reliable. I have only had to remove a blockage once so far. I would echo other reviewers comments that it doesn’t work at a fast rate, so you do need to be patient if you are feeding through a large amount of material. I also agree that it has a tendency to topple over when you move it. Overall though, I would say it’s a worthwhile investment if you regularly have shrub and tree cuttings to dispose of.

i needed a chipper and this was really all i could afford to buy. i wasnt very confident because some of the reviews were very negative. i can honestly say after two days use i have to be happy with it. true it says it ll deal with 40 mm of branch but you d need to be a mental case to even try that. so i didnt and it worked perfectly.
im not sure if the blade is reversible or not, but i bought a sharpener just in case it became blunt quickly. it has lost its edge a little but it was hard at work for two days and i wont complain about it. as long as you clear debris it works well. id say value for money. id recommend it! the people who have had problems will be the people who tried to put logs in it. if you keep to 20 mm maybe 30 mm at a push it works great 20 and 30 mm are decent size branches.

This Bosch met my expectations. If you have large amount of cuttings to handle you should consider an industrial shredder as with all shredders of this size safety features do not allow you to feed large amount of material at one time. Overall great shredder. I recommend.

Based on multiple reviews I went ahead and purchased this item and have now spent a full day using it. It is a lot quieter than our previous chipper and does a great job of chipping everything we have put through it from leafy material to thick branches to dead and tough branches. It is easy to use and can be stored quite easily.
My only issue is manouverability. It is very top heavy and has a narrow wheel base so great care has to be taken when moving it about or it will fall over. It is a weighty item so once it is on its side, it does take some effort to stand it up again!

The shredder is good for hedge trimmings and copes with a good width of material. Also good with greenery in general. Shredded material is suitable for composting immediately , or if it goes to the tip, the shredder reduces a trailer load og branches to a few recycled compost bags.
The only negative comment is that I have to sharpen the blades quite regularly and it’s a bit of a fiddle to remove and replace them. You’ll need a bench grinder to do the job properly.

  55. SiennaAizworr says:

I bought this to save me taking large volumes of garden waste to the tip and in that respect it has worked well. What would have been 6 large bags I managed to condense into 2 wheelie bins.
I had hoped that it would produce a fine mulch to put on the garden and in that respect I was disappointed because in my opinion the resulting chippings are too coarse.
The reply good points are that:
It doesn’t jam. I munched its way through loads of garden waste without jamming once.
It’s quiet compared to the impact shredder I used to have.
It’s quite easy to move, although fairly heavy.
It’s very easy to store because the hopper comes off and I’m storing mine under a bench in the shed.
    The less good ponts are:
While it’s very good at munching branches etc (it just pulls them through) it’s less effective on leaves and conifer clipping which pass through almost unscathed, despite careful adjustment of the cutting blade.
All in all I’m pretty satisfied with it, especially at the heavily discounted price I paid on Amazon.

I had to cut down 4 large shrubs in preparation for having a fence replaced. The shrubs were up to 15 feet high and were probably 15 years old at least. Cutting them down was no problem but how to dispose of the cuttings? I bit the bullet and chose the Bosch one as a reliable manufacturer. I was a little nervous of safety and also of clearing the machine if it jammed. I needn’t have worried . The shredder reduced the huge pile of branches to half a dozen bags of shredded material. Fingers are kept well away from the interior of the machine and taking off the front cover to clear the only time it jammed (when I didn’t notice the collection bag was full) was a piece of cake.
    Very happy indeed.

It has its limits but if you go slow and don’t overload it and keep things small then fine. Couldn’t handle finger size chunks of apple tree branch. Got jammed up with fresh twigs but went through small stuff well. Mixed bag really, got it for 140 ish glad I didn’t pay more but I will be using it until it breaks so hopefully a few years yet.

My old Al Ko shredder which gave me good service for 20 years broke and I was looking for a similar replacement..
I finally opted for the Bosch having read many reviews. I wanted one capable of shredding general garden plants and small branches.
So far I have found it very capable of shredding green garden waste although the feed hole is on the small side.
I have also tried a 10cm branch which it coped with ease.
I will have to wait and see how it works with more woody material when I get round to it.
No waste collector but I have always used a plastic dustbin with part of the side cut out so as to slot under the waste shute.

Never owned a shredder before. Used for the first time yesterday. It was quite an expensive purchase ahead of cheaper versions from the same manufacturer and others. It’s pretty heavy with the weight largely at the rear of the machine — thus a tendency to topple backwards when lifted at the front to move it on its wheels. Also generally not easy to lift up & down (e.g. in and out of a shed and up and down steps). It needs to be on a level surface (at least it did for me) to operate which ruled out our rear lawn which slopes downwards. I put it on the patio in the end.
It seemed very effective with the woodier, stubborn cuttings — even the large and long thorny pieces though it’s better when the cuttings are broadly ‘vertical’, less so with uneven shapes e.g. where you’ve cut at an angle. I didn’t find it so effective with softer, leafier cuttings — these blocked it more than once. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of noise — I didn’t find this a problem. Eye protection is recommended — the longer side branches can swish around a bit which can be a hazard. Only used once so far but from what I’ve seen it’s an effective machine which mulches the tougher garden waste down into small pieces collected in a box for much more convenient disposal.

I was fed up placing branch cuttings in the garden bin as they quickly filled it up leaving little space for other garden waste. This solved the issue straight away, the shredded material can be placed back into the garden to act as a measure to counteract weeds or to supplement nutrients. Wish I’d bought one yonks ago

Shreds branches up to the thickness of my thumb (1”) without issue. Works for cutting up Leylandii and other hedge branches. Obviously not for small green shoots or leaves. Been using the shredder for months and happy with it. I feed the branches individually using them to shift any remnants in the feeder. Ref paddle fine for clearing blocked items while I’m use and if the machine stops opening the lid and clearing out is simple. Good product !

I replaced a failed unit from another manufacturer that had served me well for about three years. This one is more substantial and has dealt with everything I’ve thrown at it so far. Great for my large domestic garden that produces lots of material annually. Also three year warranty a good feature.

Light and easy to move around.
Shreds leaves and small branches very easily and any that jam can be easily pushed through with the paddle. Less good with larger branches as it doesnt pull these into the machine – you have to stand there and push them in which is different to the earlier model I have been using.
Overall I am happy with the purchase

I really love this shredder! Very easy to operate, I just needed to know to switch the ‘On’ switch without pressing it down, otherwise it did what it should do! Shredded different types of green branches up to 4cm if you don’t jam them up together. I had to unclog it once or twice when there were mud lumps with the branches. Otherwise, a large heap of branches and twigs were cleared in an hour. And very safe as well.

A sturdy and efficient machine and I am not disappointed!

    Perfect for the job!

Munches nicely through copious amounts of buddleja making lots of lovely clippings. Same with other large woody shrubs. When it came to the fuchsia, the little leaves caused it to have a complete fit and needed to be taken to bits and clear. Definitely worth getting but my top tips are to wait until it’s finished chewing before putting the next thing through and, if you’ve got little leaved plants, put some big leaved plants in to clear out the innards

Oh and if you’re going to stick 9 foot brambles in it, the clippings are still spikey!!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have used garden shredders before. I initially had one of the chipper types which was pretty useless for anything but dried woody stuff. Up until recently I was using a Bosch AXT1600 which provided many years of faithful service. The AXT1600 was a screw crush cut system where the crusher screw would drag the cuttings onto the cutter. This was a big improvement and could handle the softer type cuttings a lot better as long as you limited the amount and mixed up things and used the woodier types to drag down the softer stuff.
The AXT25tc uses a different system of a rotating cutters against a metal plate. The system handles softer stuff really well and is a big improvement and chops up all nicely. I would recommend the shredder to all.
The only negatives I can add are that when the shredder arived the cutting head was supposed to be adjusted- well it needed more adjustment to work properly- not a big thing but for this price…
Also the speed of shredding is not that fast. My previous AXT 1600 when it grabbed a branch it would just pull the whole thing down very quickly. The 25 tc is more of a gravity feed so a bit slower although the less messing with softer stuff brings that overall speed back up. Plus I should add that the pusher down tool actually does work on this shredder whereas the AXT1600 tool was more use as a puller out of stuck stuff to clear the funnel as there was no way to get anywhere near the cutting head. The cutting head on the 25tc is very accessible and any blocks would be easy to clear.

This is spinning blade shredder, with a two edged blade mounted on a rotating plate. I was unsure how effective the machine would be for shredding all manner of twigs and branches from garden tress and shrubs. I needn’t have worried – it’s very impressive and in general shreds everything surprisingly small. Very fine twigs sometimes do not shred so well but that’s not really a problem. When the blade becomes dull it can be turned over to the second side and it’s like new again. Shredding 35mm branches, trimmed to feed through the slot, has not been a problem at all and it produces nice fine chips. Very easy to clean inside after use and so far I’ve not had it jam on me. Like all shredders it is quite noisy, so inexpensive ear defenders are a good investment, together with eye protectors and garden gloves!

I was hesitant to purchase as some of the previous reviews mention the machine jamming and the blades blunting, god knows what these previous reviewers have been putting in it because for me it has just kept shredding everything I have thrown at it.
In theory it will shred up to 40mm width but I think as long as you don’t push it, I haven’t put anything thicker than my thumb in it.. it appears to just shred away all day.
It you want to shred thick logs obviously you will need a professional petrol driven device but this more than handles all the waste from my large garden as long as its treated sensibly and not overloaded..
I have been pleasantly surprised by it’s performance.

This is a great shredder cutting up branches and leaves with easy – for a while – by the time I have filled 4 – 5 bags of shedded material the blade is no longer cutting as well. At this point smaller flexible twigs don’t cut and get stuck sometimes causing the motor to stop. It is easy to clear out, but the more you use it the worse it gets. Fortunately the blade can be turned over and you then have two new blades which again perform brilliantly for while. New blades are available so easy to change them and get the same great performance bug don’t expect the blades to last long. I would still buy this shredder though as I have heard that new blades for shedders of a similar design are difficult to obtain and don’t perform as well.

I am comparing this with an older Black and Decker shreader working on same principle. The Bosch is very powerful and handles solid branches, cuttings, leaves and soft stuff with egual effectiveness. After approx 6 hours of work the blade is still very sharp. Blade design is v good with reversible cutting edges and heavy so the energy helps cutting, above all only one socket head set screw holds it so very easy to change it. Light and easy to move.

This is the opposite. It is easy to move around; it will shred up to 40mm material and when jammed (because I put palm leaves through it) it took one minute to release the jam and be back in action. Noise is subjective but is kept to short periods because of the efficiency of the machine.
I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it.

Pros: copes well with a variety of material except really soft clippings. It’s a cut and crush machine and any shredders that crush struggle a bit with soft material. This one is pretty good though. It chews through thick dry branches well and the resulting mulch is quite small pieces.
Cons: It is heavy. It’s fine to move around using the wheels if you are on a flat surface, but I store mine in a shed and need help getting it up over the threshold.

Overall: good machine, very robust and good for most types of garden trimmings. Would recommend.

Works a treat after struggling with my previous shredder. It’s light and easy to wheel around. Works best on thicker branches which it reduces to small shavings. Not very good with thin branches which come through shredder in 4 to 6 inch lengths. Stopped when output Shute got blocked but that was my fault. You need to ensure that collection basket doesn’t fill to block exit Shute. But even when it got blocked it was relatively easy to unblock from bottom using thick branch.

We bought this shredder to compact all the woody stuff you cut down in the winter to save trips to the tip. We completely cut down a mahonia that had been in for 30+ years, we took 12 inches off the top of a beech hedge, we did some serious pruning to a pyracantha and finally did the winter prune to all our bush and climbing roses. Lots of prickly woody stuff and apart from the huge trunk (6+ inches) of the mahonia, it all went through the shredder. This volume would have necessitated many trips to the tip and a lot of cutting up to get it into bags. All this stuff went easily through the shredder generating a small volume which was easily bagged. It’s not a tool that we’ll use throughout the year as we have a green-waste wheelie bin for much of the year, but nevertheless it was a great help. Highly recommended.

I love this shredder! It’s extremely fast, has demolished my old hedge into great mulch & only jams up when you overfeed it or put through circular / odd shapes. Very easy to lift, manouvre & clean. I open it regularly to clear any debris (every 1 to 2 box / bag loads) & use it with an open box so that I can immediately see / hear if there’s any blockage. Great price for a great tool.
I also bought an Oregon wire mesh visor & I’m glad I did because it can be a tad fierce! There’s a plastic flap to keep the chunks from coming back out but occasionally a long wooden stem will make me jump as it moves about. I almost always use the supplied paddle! It loves wood & woody green stems … worth every penny!
The item needs a small amount of easy assembly to start – diagrams towards the back of the manual.

I have had a similar product for many years, as I like to make garden compost. Will take stems and shred them up. Blade is easy to replace, with clear instructions and an alum key is provided. Stones and earth will blunt blade. Safety cut out, and good plunger to put down the feeder chute. No collection bag is not a problem for me as many containers will fit underneath. Fruit tree pruning s tend to chip only, so the shredder is best for softer growth.

Shredded ground ivy leaves and small stems soaked in water for at least a week, can then be put on compost heap without regrowth. Compost is made super fast with shredding

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersThe fact that I have bought four of these, one for myself, one for my daughter, one for my son and one for my girlfriend says a lot!
The AXT 25 TC is a very powerfull quiet (Ear muffs not required) machine easily ably to chomp 40mm green brushwood and softer stuff such as ivy and honeysuckle. However, like most machinery, there is a technique to using it. If you ram softer stuff down too hard the cutter can’t get hold of it and it blocks but if you work with the machine it is remarkable what it will chomp.
I have only given it 4 stars for manoeverability as it is quite top heavy and needs a steadying hand. Also the cable is a bit short for a garden machine necessitating the use of an extension cable. Note that a heavy duty cable is necessary: a 1.5 sq mm is good for 10 m or so but 1.75 sq mm is better for up to 25 m and must be uncoiled.

I bought this to avoid trying to dispose of some fairly major pruning of trees via the council green collection, and outlooking the system being degraded next year making it suitable only for grass cutting. I have a lot of hedges and several trees in a medium sized garden. You can see some typical material before and after shredding. In all I have shredded around 700 litres of chipped material into three compost bins. It easily chips up 30cm branches, leaves, and even brambles (although these are better allowed to go dry first). It won’t operate unless the bin with its little magnet in the back is in place – so safe. The serial number, for the guarantee, is obscured by the mains cable when wrapped around it’s keeper – free info to save frustration. Heartily recommended.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWe needed a shredder for our allotment as we produce quite a lot of garden waste that needs to be chopped up to take up less space and to add to the compost heap (mostly fruit tree prunings, hedge trimmings etc).
I was a bit unsure about how good this product (or any other shredder) would actually be after reading reviews online but its been absolutely brilliant so far.

The assembly is minimal and incredibly easy to do and the assembled unit is easy to move around due to the lightweight and the big wheels.

The shredder made short work of our apple free prunings without a problem. Shredding green waste (like the picture attached) takes a little bit more care as the chute can become blocked up. It’s easy to avoid though but not putting through too much at once and putting through some dry, woody material every now and again to help keep things moving. I got the through the pile in the picture in about an hour or so.

Everyone want’s jobs done as quickly as possible so you will probably jam it up at some point but once you get used to the speed and capacity of the shredder you will get on without a problem.

One thing to keep an eye on is the exit of the shredder and make sure the pile doesn’t obstruct it as this will also lead to a jam. A jam doesn’t take long to clear, just unplug it, clear the chute and get back on with the job.

I’m really happy with it so far and would recommend it.

Bosch tools are excellent BUT impossible to get fixed when they break down after the warranty period.
Considering that power tools contain a lot of valuable material this is not very good environmentally when they have to be scrapped. There needs to be some reconditioning system.

This is the first shredder that I’ve used so cannot compare it with other machines.
Setting up and usage is simple. It’s important not to overload the shredder with too much leafy material as the mechanism can become clogged. Branches need to be pushed in thick end first. If the machine does become clogged, it is very easy to open the machine for clearing.

A good product much better than I thought it would be. It only struggled with 40mm old yew branches which are about as hard as it gets – but it did it. Other cheaper type bought by my son was useless( in his words) and he is now buying this one having seen it used ! I am sure its success is down to the cutter design which is very strong and well made. It did choke up with leaves after a lot of bay tree branches had gone through it but it is very easy to open up and clear which I will now do more often as a routine rather than letting it clog up.
I would recommend it for the average garden.

Felled a tree and put most of it (except for the large, fire-log-like lower parts of the main branches) through this. Also put about 10 cubic metres of hedge through it.

It does a great job of chomping through meters of branches, pulling them in and cutting them down to nothing.

It does take a lot of tending. Even the big agricultural chippers take a fair bit of tending. So don’t expect to clear up a felled tree in 20 minutes, or as an aside to whatever else you’re doing, like hedgetrimming. Think more like hours or a day, just for the shredding.

BUT, with some work, it’ll turn a small garden’s worth of branches into a few much smaller piles of woodchips.

It does struggle with wetter stuff, like very leafy upper branches and shrubs. But if you’re a bit strategic, keeping some woodier branches around, you can feed them in after the leafy stuff, and it’ll clear itself.

Almost never jams, unless you’re really pushing what you can fit into it.

The auto-sharpening mechanism (where you just tighten a knob to sharpen it) is pretty cool. Be sure not to tighten the wrong knob when assembling though, or you’ll waste some of the brand new blades as soon as you turn it on.

Bear in mind that buying a trailer and taking the branches to a council dump might be more suitable for you. Depends on what you need, and how you want to work, I guess.

Bought this over a year ago and love it. The chute works well to feed items through it. Love the red plastic tool for poking things down the chute. I like that it can be made smaller for storage. Blades can be altered so good if been cutting thick items and want to change to smaller items or if the blades have just worn. Went for the TC version and glad I did as it shreds well. Easy to undo to unblock the blades from too much in the waste container. Yes noisy but not any where near as noisy as other shredders we’ve had. It is heavy to move even on the castors but that’s because it’s a solid bit of equipment. Not flimsy and wobbly like some. If someone could just make it quieter and find a way to stop the shreddings piling up in the middle of the container then blocking the blades it would be perfect. Also although there is a section that you can wind the cord around, if does keep coming undone. An area to plug the plug into once it’s wound to stop it moving would be very helpful. We have used it a lot. I would recommend this shredder if you want something sturdy that will last.

I have a large amount of mulching to get through. There’s no access to bring in a big pro petrol chipper. I’ll also be making my own garden compost.
So, this Bosch Shredder AXT Rapid 2200 had very good reviews on Which? and is currently only 169 on Amazon.
It’s nice and light too. Easy to wheel around or even lift in and out the car, if you need to take it down the allotment.
I’ve just spent 3hrs shredding a mass of ivy plus a few birch and ash twigs and branches. This shredder worked very well. Didn’t block or snag once. It’ll take branches up to 40mm in diameter. Anything thicker simply goes on my wildlife log pile.

    Fast. Fine chopping. Love it!
