Excellent boots for the price. I walk about 5 miles daily across a range of terrains and often in poor weather conditions. The boots are very comfortable and, to date, have proven to be fully waterproof. Recommended.

These are a small fit. I ordered my usual size 8, but 8.5 would have been better.

Good sturdy boot, they might have a slight leak as you can feel a cold feeling in one kit but doesn’t breach the membrane so your foot is Still dry, but for how long.

Always a bit worried about buying footwear online. These are proved to be a good choice.
Comfortable with the first walk and a couple of weeks in, no issues with waterproofing.

The boots appear to be the usual good Berghaus quality. The only negative is size, I usually take a 10 in walking boots but these were to tight so reordered 10.5 which are an acceptable fit but whilst overall the boot fits well its a little tight in the toe area but not enough to rub and cause blisters

Love these boots very comfy and didn’t take long to break in. Started off on a 8mile tab with 40lb in my day sack across the welsh mountains and they with stood a battering. Since then I’ve clocked up around 70+ miles and boots are still very comfy no wear and tear or miss shaping. I did see other people mention the boot falling apart but with real care and the usual polish after a tab they are sound. Really do recommend these. I brought 10.5 and I have wide feet and they fit comfy with medium wool socks. Only bad point is the sole is a little thick and you can’t feel the pedals in your car as much. Highly recommended for a cheaper boot.

Size 10: Ordered these while on holiday to replace my brasher boots which despite regular proofing were leaking badly. Arrived promptly via Amazon the next day, so gave them and initial 3 mile walk through long wet grass with perfectly dry feet.

Three months on, I walk in them every day and I’m really impressed. I was initially sceptical over the very small top lace cleats, but the laces are good and stay in place. The boots are good quality, comfortable, waterproof and the soles provide good grip. So far, I’d highly recommend these.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve had two or three pairs of these boots and between them they’ve been up hundreds of hills and mountains. I find them comfortable, they grip well and they keep the water out, though after several years the Goretex wears out and they leak. This is the first time I’ve bought unseen. The new boots are almost identical to the old ones but they seem a trifle longer. They’ll do though.

These are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned and this is my second pair. I’m on my feet all day at work and when I get home it’s straight out with the dog for another hour or more. This would be a five star review but for one factor, longevity. My last pair lasted just over a year. The boot itself was still watery and in good overall condition but the sole was a different matter. The rubber that makes up the sole is very soft and therefore very comfortable but it wears fast. If your looking for a boot that will last for years, look elsewhere. If your looking for a really comfortable boot and don’t mind replacing every year or so then look no further.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSo, I’ve always bought cheaper alternatives, thinking ‘boots are just boots’… but oh, no… how wrong I was! I have fairly slim, narrow feet for a bloke, and these particular boots were perfect for me. To the reader of this review, your circumstances may obviously be different – if you have wide feet I wouldn’t recommend them – but if you’re like me (feet like Ski’s) then get them bought…! On the day of arrival (yes, you can tell it was a big thing), next day too (thanks to Amazon), I headed out for a 5 mile walk in the rain with some fellow ramblers. The terrain was muddy, very wet (slashing it down!) and my feet came out the other side completely dry, warm and comfortable. It’s like a revelation! Of course, the longevity of these boots is yet to be determined, but so far they’ve been on 4 long hikes with me and they’re still going strong. Nothing bad to report so far!

Great product – again. Third pair I’ve bought in the last 20 years, need to buy men’s as women’s only do up to a UK8 & I wear UK9. I could walk for ever in these boots, so comfortable from day one and give excellent ankle support. Expensive – but certainly well worth the money!

Fortunately it was well packaged as it had probably been there for three days.and was externally wet. Still no harm done. Excellent replacement for my previous lightweight boots. Very light for an all leather boot. Comfortable immediately. May not suit people with wider feet as the boots are quite slim. I ordered one size bigger than my shoe size, I always do with walking boots. Walked about 50 miles in them so far, some in the wet. No problems.

Bought these for work – I walk various distances between jobs – and they are very comfortable. I have worn these in a Volcano in Lanzarote and gave great protection. The ground was NOT molten lava – but did have an increased surface temperature! They are great for trekking, hillwalking and walking on roads/pavements. I have no current inclination to buy any other brand than Berghaus in the future based on these boots. Value for money and their comfort – Highly recommended.

Bought to wear on our recent trip to Lapland. Amazon prime really did save the day, another well known retailer decided to notify me these were no longer in stock 2 days before flighting out. Lucky for me Amazon came to the rescue, although a little more expensive the package was delivered the next day . These boots seem to be of good quality and stood up in -10 degrees with plenty of snow and ice. My feet were kept dry and warm the whole time. I ordered half a size up to allow for an extra pair of socks to be worn.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI do lots of walking and hiking. I live in Scotland near the coast. I an an outdoors girl with dogs that need a lot of exercise. So from stepping it out on rugged terrain, walking on the beach or walking on fire roads…. I need a boot that is supportive and going to last. Generally speaking hiking boots last me 6 months whether I’ve paid 80.00 or 160.00. I’m not walking around puddles or taking the easy route. THAT’s what a hiking boot is for in my opinion. This pair of Berghaus I’ve only just started putting through their paces if you like. The heel on my left side was tight at first and took some bedding in. Now they are comfortable and supportive (important because of back injury) I can walk for miles in them. They are not the lightest pair of boots I’ve had, they seem to be fairly waterproof. I don’t remember coming home with wet feet. Would I buy them again…? Yes. I’ve worn Berghaus for about 10 years now. Again, in my opinion, I think they hold up really well. When I’ve not had the money to spend I’ve paid 40.. for varying other makes and of course you get what you pay for. (they don’t last!) This is a really decent boot.

Only bought these boots last week so only wore them a couple of times. So far I’m very pleased with them. Been really wet past few days and the times I’ve worn them in the rain , my feet have always been bone dry. Really light and very comfortable. I bough a half size bigger than normal so I can wear thick socks with them and find them perfect size. So far I would certainly recommend these boots.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI must say that these boots are excellent, all-weather walking boots.

I usually wear a UK size 8, ordered 8 1/2 but they were returned to Amazon as I found them too small and replaced with a UK 9.

They are comfortable when walking but tend to be a bit on the tight side if worn all day. If I purchase another pair in the future they will be 9 1/2 just to relieve that feeling of tightness by the end of a day of wearing.

Well made, lovely boots, highly recommended.

    <>
After wearing these boots for a month or so I noticed my feet getting wet after rain. But once winter 2020 approached and having worn them occasionally for six months or so I noticed they were regularly letting in water. The seams were beginning to split and the sides of the boots beginning to crack. This was the second pair I’d purchased, the previous about a year prior and they suffered from the toe-cap splitting away from the main body of the boot. I put that down to having done quite a lot of walking on rough ground. This second pair had much less to contend with and the same faults appeared.

If you expect waterproof boots with this brand and model, you will be disappointed. They are comfortable but not durable. Their lifetime guarantee has not been tested but I do have a mind to claim but what does a lifetime guarantee even mean? What is less debatable is their claim to be waterproof. They are not. The manufacturer should spend some money on stitching and not on glue to hold their boots together. Buy something else.

Really comfortable, waterproof and well made.
What more could you want for a pair of walking boots.
Very premium feeling material and the soles are still going strong after almost a year of regular walking (Twice a week).
Pair them with some waterproofing wax or spray to keep them in tip top shape and you’ll never need another pair of boots again!

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThey’re understated which I like. I mean they don’t try to shout their brand at others. Only social mediaists would wear those. They just ooze quality with a lifetime guarantee. My feet have long since stopped growing so it’s a no brainer. 100% waterproof, comfortable (once broken in at the heel) about 3 uses. I have wide feet and these are a good fit. If you deliberately wear short trousers, white socks and like garish branded neon ticks and stripes and take selfies of your shoes then these aren’t for you.
If however you enjoy walking in comfortable, supportive, breathable, top quality, lightweight boots that will last, then look no further.

The ankle support system us excellent. Good grip on wet surfaces and so far seem waterproof. They look a little narrow but actually feel like a normal fit. These are the best boots I have had. They are light, sturdy and waterproof. I did buy a half size bigger, after reading other reviews. Good advice, fit is perfect. I normally have a 10, the half size bigger, allows for the wider fit. Walk around 15-20 miles a month on adverage so hopefully will get a few years wear.

I have had these boots about a month now. Nice and light weight, yet sturdy and substancial. Best of all, they really are waterproof.
Why four stars and not five stars? Well, they are rubbing in a few places where I don’t think they should. They fit perfectely when I got them, but I feel a few pinch points in my ankles. Normally a shoe feels more comfortable after a month and these aren’t there yet. If I was going on a six hour hike I would be nervious in these – walking the dogs for an hour or two is fine. I think they will ‘mould’ to my feet over time, but they were better on day one – something to think about.

We have had these boots for year’s and they are very comfortable from the first walk. You can expect around 1-2 years general weekend use before they lose their proper waterproofing (can stand in runing water!!) but then they gradually let water in, but we have found they are still good for many years. probably the last ones lasted us 8 years before they finally wear out. We walk most weekends for at least 2hrs, then longer day trips in the alps and The lakes when on holiday.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThese boots are built to last. They feel pretty heavy when you hold them and this, combined with a moderately firm grip around the ankles, would give you the impression that your feet would start to ache after wearing them for a few hours. Surprisingly I discovered this didn’t turn out to be the case and ended up wearing them all day.

Once I got used to the sensation of the boots’ ankle grip, wearing them was quite pleasant. The cushioned areas in the sole and under the feet (inside the boot) somehow managed to give the right balance of comfort while still allowing you to feel the ground under your step. This, combined with the sole design, would help a lot with better control over uneven terrain. The laces are also made of tough material that takes a lot of stress. Overall, the boot’s outer appearance with its combined use of mesh and suede looks classy and pleasing to look at. Worth the initial investment.

These boots look technical and detailed, with a multi-layered fabric design. The upper is very flexible but the sole is almost rigid. That rigidity is essential in outdoor activities on rough terrain, but I found it a bit inflexible for casual wear. That’s not a fault with the boots; just a note that these are more for serious than casual/fashion wear. The boots are indeed waterproof, and keep feet warm and dry.

The price is not at all bad for a pair of Berghaus boots, though I have usually spent almost double the price for a great pair of all-terrain boots. I would put them at the budget end of serious outdoor boots, well worth considering.

These fit true to size but are a little bit narrow for my feet, a problem I’m encountering more as I get older. I think my feet are getting wider so take my qualms with a pinch of salt! These are well made and good looking boots. Waterproof and with grippy soles but I would have liked a bit more leather. You do sacrifice weight though so perhaps man made fabrics are the way to go…

These boots are comfy and surefooted. I have no idea how long they will last but they do seem like they’ve a lot of life in them. Good boots.

Unboxing is a very positive experience because they come is a massive box!

The fit is fine (I usually take a UK9 in Nike (except Huaraches) so that may help). They have needed to be broken in very slightly but are now very comfortable., even for extended wear. I’ve tested them in some deep puddles thanks to some recent heavy rain and found them to be fully waterproof (tested to below the top 2 lace fasteners).

My one criticism is that there’s no hi-viz material on them, so if walking with traffic in the dark, there’s nothing to alert motorists that you may be on the road. A little hi-viz is commonly added to trainers so I don’t see why it couldn’t have been included here.

Looking forward to taking these boots on some longer country walks! I have yet to find any trainers from the main sportswear brands that are really up to wet weather conditions.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersMy old walking boots were no longer waterproof so the time was right for a new pair. I knew I had bought the right boots as soon as I put these on. Comfortable from the start and wore them for a couple of hours to get the feel, then went for a short walk on the North Downs. Only did 3 or 4 miles and they felt just as comfortable as they did when I put them on. Plenty of mud and unavoidable puddles after recent rain and my feet were dry and the tread was good and no sliding in the mud. Well worth the money.

I’ve been walking for a couple of hours every day for the last two weeks in these boots and I’m impressed with their performance and comfort. A few years ago I might have sniffed at non-goretex waterproof boots, but in recent years it’s become clear that other technologies have caught up and perhaps overtaken it for a combination of water resistance and breathability. The AQ solution in these Expeditors has served me well through sudden downpours and trails that are more stream than path. The sole has felt reliable on slick streets and rocks alike. The uppers seem strong so far, though the proof will reveal itself after a year or so. Appearance-wise, I think they look OK – fairly standard for performance walking boots. The colour accents are subtle and the toe box and heel area remind me a bit of my old Magnum police boots. The fit is a little narrow, which suits me fine, but if you normally take a wider fit, these may not be for you. Lacing is quick and easy.

    So far, very impressed.

The boots are lighter that you’d expect looking at them, are waterproof and have a good chunky sole. They are three season boots, and might well be good for winter too, but I personally wouldn’t want to risk it.

They look and feel cheaper and more basic than they are – they almost look like PPE work boots, and they feel a bit rubbery. Now, that’s only look and feel, which doesn’t matter to me, and probably won’t matter to you.

The colour is described as black and red, but the only red is on the sole, so its a daft name.

The Berghaus walking boot is extremely comfortable to wear. The sole has a slight spongy texture and so when you walk there is a pleasing bounce to each step, which is ideal over uneven terrain. I describe the boot as a cross between a trainer and and a boot, with its stylish upper and thick sole. The boot is very well made and I particularly liked the red design incorporated into the thick embossed under-sole. I wore the boots with spray-on jeans and tied the laces so that the tongue stood proud. This was easily achieved as the top pairs of eyelets are actually metal hooks which allow the laces to be wrapped around before tying. The result was a very trendy appearance which friends were quick to comment on. Overall, I am very delighted with these boots and would highly recommend them as a hiking or fashion accessory.

I was offered these to review in a size 9 and accepted them even though I usually wear a 9.5. To my surprise, they fit me perfectly (I am finding some inconsistencies in Berghaus’s sizing – I got a pair of hiking shoes from them in 9.5 which are a bit tight. Odd…). They differ slighy from the photo and the interiors are an almost pinkish red, but I’m fine with that. They are very padded and comfortable and would be welcome companions on any hike. They appear to be fairly waterproof though I have not yet given them a thorough test in this department. However, they have handled everything I’ve put them through so far easily. Overall, this is a great pair of boots from a reliable brand.

I’ve given these boots a try on a few different walks now and they’ve proven to be comfortable even when worn for a while. Their grip has been very good on most surfaces, notably so on mud and sand but perfectly acceptable everywhere else. I have had total success when it’s come to being waterproof, with no signs of ingress at all. Mine are the black/red version of the boot and I note that the red areas are really just the highlights on the sole, in the laces and around the tongue; the rest of it is fairly low-key black/grey which suits me fine. So far I’m very pleased with them.

First time I’ve had suede walking boots so time will tell how good this is as an upper as opposed to leather but they are holding up well so far. They are light and comfortable with just enough flex in them. Nice & warm, weathering quite a few wet walks admirably keeping my feet dry.

And here’s the rub – every walking boot I’ve ever owned that is “waterproof” ends up leaking like a sieve after 6 months of daily dog walks. Hence my title – after only a couple of weeks these are lovely and waterproof but only time will tell if they will stay that way and earn the extra star I’ve currently given them here.

The boots supplied were size 9 UK and were a tight fit – my other boots are size 9, but I may need a 9.5 in these… often shoe sizes vary with manufacturer. They may well soften up with use… so I will give them a go.

These are comfortable boots, lightweight but with good support for the ankles.
A good chunky sole should prevent slipping. As we are usually to be found on the Sussex Downs or up in the Lake District, these will get a lot of use.

My Dad is absolutely thrilled with these boots. He has wide feet and high insteps that can make finding well fitting shoes and boots a bit of a chore – with boots in particular being problematic. These are great. They’re well and robustly made but also lightweight. Dad reckons they’re really, really comfortable. The soles have good grip sections, and the linings are comfortable and well-padded. The uppers combine leather and man made materials – the latter comprising both rubbery elements and fabric.

These are quite warm boots but since Dad suffers from Raynaud’s phenomenon, this is useful to him for the cooler Autumn-Spring months as it helps to reduce the impact of cold temperatures restricting the flow of blood to his toes.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersA nice, solid pair of boots. Felt slightly snug and a thick pair of walking socks would probably make them a bit too tight to be honest. However, they are comfy, supportive around the ankles and have some good grips (see the photos). My only issue was that they didn’t seem very breathable, my feet got quite hot, quite quickly. However, I find that with most boots except the *really* expensive ones! Slight niggles aside, these boots definitely seem like a long term investment and will serve you well. Very pleased.

Comfy and well made, slightly small sizes

Happy to say that these boots were comfortable straight out of the box. I usually take a fairly wide size 9 and these fit perfectly with thick walking socks. They also fit very well with thinner socks and a corrective insole I sometimes wear. However, with the corrective insoles I did need to do the laces up tight or they did rub a little on the heel. So far I’ve just worn them when walking the dogs and overall I’ve done about 15 miles in them, including a couple of miles each day through long, wet grass, and I’m very pleased to say that they remained waterproof throughout. This, for me, is the real test of a waterproof boot as I’m far more likely to have to be doing that regularly than crossing a narrow stream or walking on a pavement in the rain. In the last 4 years I’ve had to return 5 pairs of expensive so called waterproof leather boots because they’ve all leaked after I’ve walked through wet grass, some after only a couple of hundred yards. So far, these have stayed dry, even today when I had to walk 2 miles in a heavy mist that meant the grass was soaking wet.

They’re very lightweight, but this does mean the soles are relatively thin for a walking boot and, perhaps because of this, despite being grippy on dry surfaces, they don’t get a lot of traction on slick, skiddy, muddy paths. That, as far as I can tell after wearing them for 3 days, is the only downside, but if they stop being waterproof I’ll update this review.

    Very nice boots.
The tongue is webbed so this helps reducing leakage at the top of the boot.
The cushioned inner soles are removable for cleaning, or replacing. I have included a picture of them sticking out of the boots.
I have always wanted a decent pair of walking boots and these for me are ideal. I am actually a size 9.5, but these are excellent with a thinner work sock as opposed to the more traditional chunky hiking socks.

    VERY, VERY COMFORTABLE.

Berghaus is a well known and reliable brand for outdoor wear. These walking boots follow that tradition. I’m a Geographer who occasionally finds himself in the field – which is invariable wet and muddy! Strong points with these boots include the excellent grip on the sole of the boot. The boots are highly waterproof above ankle level so you’re unlikely to get any ingress of water. Berghaus also use an ‘AQ’ lining which is both waterproof but also allows your feet to breath for both comfort and a longer lifetime. There’s leather uppers which should also help with longevity as long as the boots are correctly cleaned and protected. Apparently these Ridge II boots are a more attractive design than the original if that’s a concern for you.

Like any walking boots the product needs to be walked in a bit. I’d advise on short term usage of the boots initially while they soften and adapt to your feet. However, the size, in my case 9, is spot on size wise. Also the boots are adequately cushioned although I’d prefer a bit for cushioning on the sole whilst on the sides it’s fine. In terms of water ingress this is most lily to occur at the back of the boot. The laces at the front including the two top-level hooks are sufficiently secure to prevent water coming in. That said mostly the boots will be exposed to water at the front so the rear area above the heal is not likely to cause a great deal of problems.

This are reasonably priced walking boots with good features. They are not suitable for very rugged conditions though – such as serious hill climbing. I feel the sole is slightly too flexible for this and the boots a bit light – which is good in other less demanding condition. For casual to semi-professional use they work well.

In summary there’s not much to dislike here apart from cushioning and perhaps slightly poor water protection at the rear. I’ve cautiously dropping a single star for that, so four stars, and very nearly a five-star product.

I really like this brand and style of boot. I walk out in the countryside each and every day – come rain or shine – so a decent boot is a necessity for me. These look and feel comfortable with a slight tweek because they are just a tad narrow for my liking – I don’t have particularly long feet but they are quite wide and it is always difficult to get the exact size I need. Go too big and my feet flop around in them – go too small and they squeeze my toes all up.
These feel a decent quality and the laces and “eyes” don’t feel like they are going to be pulled out anytime soon (unlike some other brands). I’ll update my review when I have walked in these boots for a few weeks…
