It does what it says and at a good price, major problem is the size of the collector. I ended up removing the catcher and spewed the stuff straight out onto the garden, I then used the mower to collect which wasn’t perfect but was good enough

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersImpressive, first impressions, however you don’t get any instructions just have the white guides on top of the box. Little disappointing
Doesn’t take long to build a very simple takes about 510 minutes max
I did find it a little difficult to move between the height as everything is a little stiff and when you first use the scarifier, you’ll find that kind of moved it self initially do you have to hold it back to make sure you get in the right use out of the machine
I have a big problem with the waste collection. It doesn’t take long to fill it. It’s open not difficult to take off but you find you spell it as you do take it off a little bit disappointed that there is no cover kind of an afterthought as you don’t get much in the collection tray, I must’ve emptied it 20 wheelie bin full of waste and I don’t have a big garden. I know my garden needed doing but the time spent picking up meds from the open collection box is disappointing
I’m also a little disappointed that it doesn’t collapse, so you have to unscrew the arms if you don’t have a lot of room disappointed
Overall, quite pleased with the operation, disappointed with the information and usability

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy lawn was a mess. After using this lawn raker once I could see a huge improvement. It removed a huge amount of moss. I use it every time I cut the lawn and am amazed at how much moss is still being removed. Some people have complained that the grass box is not big enough and needs to be emptied a lot. Well so what.!!
This is a great little machine and I should have bought one years ago.

A good lawnrake with three height settings for the tines. It has a push button safety feature on the starting handle, so it can’t be started in error. However the collection box is poorly designed. It sits at such a high angle that after a short period the moss etc raked up, slides down and into the rotating drum. As such I had to remove and empty the box every 5 minutes or so. Having put down moss killer days before I used this on the lowest rake setting and it removed a scary amount of dead moss, grass clippings, weeds etc. Despite the collection box design I would still recommend this product. Being a household name I’m hoping there will be no problem in obtaining spare parts, an issue I had with my previous brand of rake.

I don’t normally leave reviews but as this was quite a big purchase I thought I would. This is quite a nice product. Easy to put together. Seems to pull its self along with ease. Great at getting out the moss. Though on the first use it did pull out grass too but I think that’s only because it was the first time and that I had a LOT of moss amongst the grass. On the moss free areas it just pulled out the dead grass. You do have to be careful with the collection tray as one bump and it disconnects but it’s easily rectified. I found it best to empty the tray by hand as it was easier than trying to tip it into a bag. Overall I am pleased and I’m looking forward to having a lawn on top top condition!

Bought to replace an old version. Definitely mor powerful, which is good. Certainly gets rid of (a lot) of moss, at its lower setting. Only dislike is the catcher. As I’m able to remove a lot of moss at a time, the catcher fills up very quickly. It would be better if the front of the catcher was also a bit higher up. Find that a lot of moss falls down between the catcher and the machine when I stop. Maybe a change to the design would help. Apart from that, it doss the job, probably as well as some dearer ones.

My only adverse comment would be the handle isn’t long enough and the catchment tray fills very quickly.

For me this Lawn raker does exactly what I was after. I did need to buy an extension cable as 10M isn’t a lot (but of course this all depends on the size of your lawn). For the price I think this item is an easy buy/win. Fast delivery as normal by Amazon.

Easy to put together. The unit is small and light but plenty powerful enough to get two builders bags of old moss and debris from a 200m Sq lawn. Collection Box fills up a bit quick, probably need to scarify a bit more often!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUsed this product to scarify my smaller back lawn and my large front lawn. Previous years I had done it by hand using moss killer and a rake (backbreaking). This product glided through the grass and removed 95% of the moss and weeds with minimal effort. As other have stated the collection box is very small .. it was fine for the smaller lawn but for the bigger one I removed it and collected it with a lawn mower afterwards. For the price I would definitely reccomend it!

The first one came with a defective grass catcher with one of the lugs turned inwards so it couldn’t be used. but Amazon collected the defective order and delivered another one which was OK. A good service overall from Amazon. I hope the scarifier turns out as good in use, watch this space.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersWe all think we’ve got a green lush lawn and then you think I’ll just get the moss out of the lawn and yep it turns out you’ve just got a lawn of moss. This scarifier will drag most of the moss out in one hit but if not just leave for a day and go again , it has 3 height levels so just make sure the lawn is fairly short and start on level 3 and make the way down the levels but what i would say is don’t do it on a dry day as you’ll kick up a lot of dust and have trouble dragging the moss out of the lawn. The set up is pretty standard really and you shouldn’t really struggle with that part of it , the grass box does fill up very quickly though as you’ll find out, with it being a bit shallow it doesn’t take long to fill and what I’ve noticed it’s a bit long so I’ve struggled to go right to the end of the lawn without the box then hitting a rose bush etc . You can actually just take it off but you’ll then just get moss being thrown out the front like one of those tree shredders, I’ve only got a small lawn so it’s perfect for me but with a big lawn I’d say just be steady and take your time as if you’ve got a huge lawn it may get a bit warm . I use it only dragging moss out of my lawn so as far as things like picking up acorns I’d say no, picking leaves up I’d say no as the leaves would probably just stick onto the spikes so just use it for taking moss out of the lawn and you’ll be fine. It’s not classed as an aerator just a scarifier so don’t get the two mixed up as it only does the one job but does it well, I’ve not had too change or replace the coil spikes as yet so can’t really comment on replacement parts or the availability of the parts so that would be a question you’d have to ask black and decker or the seller. Me personally when I’m finished I clean it all up and then spray a bit of WD40 onto the spikes and that way they stay clean and rust free , the scarifier can be folded down by undoing the plastic wing nut type of things on both sides so it can be put away in a small shed , but in all it’s never let me down and has always got rid of the moss and any dead grass , it won’t remove or drag out any good grass or lawn but once you’ve removed the moss believe me your lawn probably won’t look like a lawn as mine was mainly moss so once I’d finished taking the moss out it did look very sad indeed and very bald but it’s done it’s job and then it’s up to you to reseed etc

What a brilliant piece of kit. Have been using these for years and they always deliver. Yes the collection bib fills quickly but it would do if there is a lot of moss to extract. A short cut of the lawn followed by a pre-rake on a higher setting say two days later then the final rake two days later still will give a good outcome. Well pleased.

I used a basic manual lawn rake for a while and it was killing my back – not as young as I was!. I saw this and thought i’d give it a go. My lawn is really quite mossy and when I saw the size of the machine I thought I should have really bought something more substantial. But as it was, there were no worries, worked a treat. The only downside as I see it is the collection bag is a bit small. Maybe our garden is much mossier than most, but I was constantly having to empty the bag. The only other comment (and this is not a criticism of the machine itself) is how used to cordless tools we get. It was a bit of a pain dragging a cable around. But of course, I knew this when I bought it. I didn’t want to pay a lot of money for a cordless one to find it wasn’t any good. Next time though that will be on my list. Very happy with my purchase.

Since spring 2021 I have had an ongoing battle with our lawn. Over winter moss had got a strong hold resulting in spending quite a sum of money on Weed & Feed & boxes of grass seed which helped however ive always been able to see a ‘brownish matting’ at ground level.
This lawn racker has stripped all debris out of the lawn and now I have a small mountain of garden waste.
An afternoon well spent and a rewarding job done.

Easy to assemble easy to use. I love this. So much easier than a manual rake or scarifier. A couple of design flaws though, the handle is too straight and as a result you tend to bear down on it when the going gets tough and the basket is angled down towards tines so you can’t fill it to capacity. These things are irritating but having an easy way to scarify out weights the cons. For these reasons I have only given 4*

I knew I had a lot of thatch in my lawn but didn’t realise how much until I put the Lawn Raker on it. Even on the highest setting (picking up leaves) it was ripping the thatch out quite easily.

Not sure how long it will last as the build quality is not all that brilliant and the wires that form the spring tines are really thin but as it’s an item you don’t use all that often, I guess only time will tell.

easy to put together and easy to use. When I used it first it was set to the highest setting and went over the lawn twice and filled a wheelie bin. I expected that and I expected some patches where it was more soil than grass so I had on standby a supply of weed and feed and lawn patch repair/lawn seeds. Previously I would rake the lawn manually and bring up less in three rakings than this machine did in one go. Looking at the result on the highest setting I will not be using the lower settings for a while. It’s a question of how much of your current lawn is grass vs moss and weeds.

This machine is just right for my 160m2 lawn. The collection basket fills up very quickly and has to be emptied with almost every pass, but for the price paid and the amount of times it has to be used each year, this is a small problem. Great scarifying and raking machine. Easy to assemble and use. My lawn had quite a lot of moss in it (so I thought). When used the machine, the amount tripled!! Clears the lawn of moss and weeds very well, allowing the lawn to recover. I have used all in one lawn feed following the process, so hoping to achieve a healthy green lawn. Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersWe bought this at the start of lockdown as part of our plan to work on the garden (as I’m sure many others also did). At the time we would have preferred to buy the Bosch one which is very well rated, but unfortunately at the time was either out of stock, or where available the price had been increased well above the average so we opted for this one which came up well rated as a “budget raker”.

Own lawn hasn’t been scarified in the two years since we moved in, and from the looks of it probably never done by the previous owners either.

The machine arrived and was very quick to assemble and figure out how to operate. We put it on and immediately the basket started to fill-up very quickly. I’d read a tip to remove the basket and scarify, and then go over with a mower later to clean up. This didn’t work out for me because without the basket the cuttings were flying and blowing all over the place. I preferred put the basket back on and found that I didn’t mind emptying the basket every so often – whilst slightly inconvenient it also means you’re not pushing around mountains of thatch and moss.

The first time, I had to stop using it because the garden waste bin got completely full – even though I’d read other reviews I was shocked at how much thatch and moss came out! After that we overseeded and applied some lawn feed. A few weeks later we did it again (without lawn feed). This has resulted in our lawn looking the best we’ve ever seen it. Minimal moss/weeds, very green grass, growing evenly and healthy. We aim to repeat this again in autumn and hopefully each time the lawn will become even better.

This scarifier/raker is well worth the money. We’ve not used it as just a rake yet, but I’m sure it’ll make life a lot easier when we do. It did everything we needed it to with ease. As something that will only be getting occasional use, I hope it lasts but obviously it’s too soon to tell. It coped with the first pass without issue, and that was hopefully the hardest shift it’s going to have to put in.

By no means do I know much about gardening, only whatever we picked up from videos and reading during the lockdown but overall it’s been very easy and given us a very pleasant lawn.

Brilliant and addictive! So easy to use and very lightweight. It strips the moss really quickly so when you first get it youll need a garden bin close by to keep emptying the holder. I’ve lent it to other family members who are reluctant to give it back!

This has been really effective in removing vasty quantities of thatch, old moss, weeds etc from my lawn. Other reviews warned that the bag does fill quickly so needs to be emptied a lot and this is definitely the case. So if you have a large lawn I would suggest spending a bit more for one with a larger capacity but this is ideal for my needs. Make sure your green bin is empty when you start though, you’ll be amazed how much stuff this removes if you haven’t owned one before!

A pleasant surprise that this little entry-level electric raker does a great job. I only use it on a dry pre-mown lawn to maximise its performance but we have a large lawn on a half acre plot and this electric raker is all I need to cover the lawn in fairly short order. I only recently purchased this so can’t confirm longevity. The only criticism is that the front bin is a little small and fills with moss every other stripe of the lawn. Possibly just because my lawn has a lot of moss, but it could do with having a bigger bin in my view, hence 4 stars.

  79. Anonymous says:

I needed this machine to scarify a 170 sq metre lawn which at some points 90% was moss. I started with a manual rake and could only a small area per day. I got this raker within two days. It took an afternoon and the following morning to complete the lawn. The main reason was because the moss was so thick that I had to empty the catcher so often. I ended up filling 7 large black bin bags.
The only problem was that the machine was making a loud noise at one point so I went up to the second setting then had to go back over it with the lowest setting. It was really thick though. I did realise on the second half that you need to go over tough spots a few times to really pick the moss up. Not sure how it will fare long term as I’ve only used it once and I will use it for leaves in the autumn but It’s been great so far.

For the money performs really well. We have a medium garden and more than up to the job for the couple of times a year it will be used . Really pulls itself along with plenty of power, and amazing what what it pulls out. To do the same with a rake by hand would take all day

Does the job of scarifying the lawn well. You do have to empty it fairly often, but it is easy just to grab the thatch with your (gloved) hands and put it in a handy bin.

Arrived at 2 o’clock, 3-30 finished, couldn’t believe the amount of thatch it removed, one previous review complained about the number of times he had to empty the grass box, he’s right but I think future scarification will result in less.
Considering the number of times it will be used, I think it’s a great little machine for the money.

I was rather dubious this would do the job given its budget price but I have to admit it’s absolutely brilliant.
The basket does need emptying every few minutes but it’s no hardship when you see what it picks up.
Can be a bit aggressive so start off on the longer setting first and work down.
Only used it today so cannot say if results last etc
Would definitely recommend and buy agai

Great for the price. Small lawn scarifier but pulled a shocking amount of thatch and moss out of garden that didn’t look overly bad, I knew it was full of moss but this lifted two tonne bags of thatch and moss after about three hours of work. Easy to build and use, adjustable settings and you just move it back and forward to pull out the thatch. Takes a bit of getting use to and definitely some effort so not easy physically but not complex to learn and certainly 10x easier than manual king raking. The only thing is like other reviews I’d say the basket is pointless. We just scarified without it and raked at the end by hand as it rakes very easily when done with this first. Definitely wait until a dry day but well worth the money and will be easier to keep on top of now.

Good value for money, good price and does a good job. Can be difficult on uneven areas of grass. Goes a good job for the price. Much easier than than the manual rolling ones! The net that catches the moss does fill quickly and needs to be emptied often but shows what a good job this tool does.

Easy to assemble, lightweight plastic. Does a good job removing moss – far easier for anybody to use rather than the very demanding physical activity of manually raking. Good investment fo me.

This machine is small and has a weak motor, however it was enough to clear 160m in 4 hours of work. Picked up more thatch than it looked like we had. Really impressed with it, it’s very light and has a small basket which filled up with each pass, so added a lot of extra work. I would recommend this product to anyone who is genuinely patient and calm. I would not recommend this to anyone who is impulsive and heavy handed

I live in Northern England, clay soil, unkempt lawn full of moss. My self my isolation ambition to invest time in my lawn brought me to purchase this.

    Previously half-heartedly manually scarified.

This was easy to assemble, I put it straight on setting 1 (max scarify), plugged it in and within 15 seconds had a bag full of moss. Unbelievable, the greatest labour saving device I’ve ever bought. After an hour I’d filled 2 big bins full of moss and thatch.

Tomorrow I’ll overseed, fertilise and top soil. Could not be happier with this product.

what a good piece of kit. i have a decent sized back garden and is overgrown with moss. the gd300 is easily put together etc. the adjustment to lower or raise the depth is slightly akward but once done it’s set. my only negative like what everyone else is saying is the moss collecter is a waste of time. i wouldnt bother with it. i was amazed how much moss and thatch came off the garden. i knew the garden was full of moss but didn’t realise how much. i cut the lawn as normal on the lowest setting. then started using the gd300 it was satisfying to see the moss/thatch get pulled out. a good buy without breaking the bank.

Arrived before the described date. Easy to assemble. Light weight and easy to use. After trying the different height adjustments it worked wonders on our lawn which was virtually all moss on no 1. I discarded the tray though and used my lawn rake as I found this easier and more effective. I am so happy with this produc

The moss gatherer was not useful as I have a small wall around my lawn. But really easy to use overall. Does a good job. It,s light to carry around my terraced garden. Fantastic value for money. Only costs what a firm would have charged me for doing the lawn once.

Wow!!! Definitely the best garden tool I have ever bought. I have raked the lawn intermittently over the years, a very time consuming job, but this machine made such light work if scarifying. I couldn’t believe how much thatch, weeds and moss I filled 2 wheelie bins and a compost bin with! A fantastic machine and well worth the money.

Nice and simple to use, not the simplest but not the worst assembly, I would prefer metal spring tube connectors as that would make it easy for adjustable heights (I guess that’s more a product development feedback).

The use is easy with different height setting on a dial that is easy to change. The collector is easy to attatch/detach but a bit on the small side. My front lawn is small (maybe 2 small cars size), this takes multiple squashing and emptying trips to the compost pile and it’s not even a poor quality lawn as it is in sunlight all day. It’s just down to the fact it’s a small front situated, open collector. When it fills up which is pretty quick, you need to squash it down or empty otherwise it falls back out and the brush has to throw it back in which inevitably goes anywhere but the collector.
When I get to my rear lawn (again not massive but a good size) as there is part shaded areas, it works well, it gets up most of the moss and debris I don’t want easily but at a painstakingly slow pace as it is full after 1 run back and forth.

It will do for now but when it has had it’s time and goes to the toolpile in the sky, I will invest (and I know you get what you pay for) in a product with a larger rear situated collector.

I was so shocked to see how much grass this little machine collects it really is well worth the buy. Very light weight and easy to assemble.

I have never scarified a lawn before and wondered whether this little gem would do the job. It not only pulled out the weeds, but raked like nothing had been raked before.
The grass has never been so green and the neighbours think I’m a qualified gardener. Thank you for such an amazing machine.

As it’s been a very wet Autumn I haven’t used it much. However when it has been dry enough I’ve found it excellent and a very effective lawn rake. Great for the price.

Pleased with this purchase, have recently completed the autumn scarifying if it lasts the 10 years the previous B&Decker scarifyer did I will be delighted.

This performed much better than I was expecting, the only negative i’d have and where it loses one star is the same as commented by others about the collector being too small and needing emptying too frequently.

For very lightweight machine this did a really good job. Bought on a deal so very cheap. Lawn now re- seeded and looks amazing. Great for the more elderly Gardner.
