works grea
Wasn’t sure how it would cut the branches , but it goes through like butter. even larger diamaters
You have to keep check of tightness of screw which clamps chain secure.
only complaint is said screw should be more ergonomic ie large
Use mine to cut down 3.5 metre high of over grown Hawthorne edge average thickness 7.5 cmtrs. 10 metres long took 3 blades that are cheap and easy to replace . One 75 years old .if I can use it anyone can .Great value for money . 500/600 qouts for someone else to do the edge.
4.0 out of 5 stars Pain to assemble
Once assembled it works great. Some one else mentioned a guy on YouTube Fred in the shed. This was helpful.
First thing you need to do is soak the chain in oil. Then you need to faff about attaching it.
The instructions are rubbish.
There’s a bolt inside an orange cover this holds the cover on.
Inside there are 2 points to attach the chain blade a small screw underneath that needs to be loosened as much as possible to get the chainsaw in straight. Then you will have to try and hold it in place while you screw the little screw back into position but don’t tighten it until the cover is bolted back on.
Otherwise I made mincemeat of the brambles and over grown hedges and trees.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very good long reach pole saw
Good quality & well made. Makes cutting high branches very easy. The instructions could be clearer, but they are reasonable to follow. The saw feels solid and is not too heavy, obviously at full extension, it takes a bit of strength to hold. I have used it from the ground & from a ladder with no problems. The safety cut offs give peace of mind. Helmet & glasses/ visor required if working above head as lots of twigs etc come down. The saw can be used on hedges, but gives quite a rough cut & a lot of debris collects on saw blade. No oil is included in box, but is easy to buy in diy shops. The saw is long & cannot be taken apart for storage, so takes up quite a bit of space.
It cuts trees.
A slightly weighty product, managed an hour with it before I started to feel the weight of it. Easy to assemble, instructions were good, make sure you have some chainsaw oil prior to first use.
Worked well so far. Even better if the head could swivel to a horizontal cutting angle.
Great product at a great price.
Does a fantastic job. Only criticism is when its at full extension it’s a bit hard to handle as the chainsaw end is quite heavy, so you must use the neck support.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good once you’ve “built” i
Wasn’t happy about having to attach the chain saw bit on the pole. Also you definitely need oil to oil the chain and fill the oil font ( glad I had read other reviews). Instructions were actually useless re attaching the chain bit. Come on Black & Decker. Had to google it and found Fred in the Shed on YouTube (thanks Fred you lifesaver!). Once built you need to take your time and get used to it. Quite heavy at top end when pole extended. Think probably need to buy some PPE like safety goggles. Didn’t appreciate the chippings etc that would fly off. Also doesn’t fit back in box once chain attached so make sure you have space to store. It’s approx 6ft in length. Despite the gripes it actually is a great bit of kit and makes tree branch chopping easy.. and defo cheaper than getting someone in.
Works a treat.
Cut down large high up branches of tree’s overhanging my garden for years and also tree growing over street light. Only wish I’d bought this years ago. Happy buyer and recommend.
Superb
The instructions could have been better for anyone that hasn`t been around chain saws before. I found my way around fitting it together. (make sure you order some chain saw oil and maybe a site helmet for safety) I was very pleased the way it took off thick branches with ease. The unit easily extends to it`s max ( I think it is 3.1mtrs at the longest) I wouldn`t want to be using it for more than an hr at a time but then I am 78 years old. All in all it is doing the job a treat.
This lopper has an effective chain and power. The plastic casing is easy access to adjust the chain tension and clean.
Expect the chain guard casing to crack after 2 or 3 years of moderate use. The power cable is very short which limits range. It’s not too heavy with pole extended but like most of them it’s not easy at full extension.
Recommend this 100%
Very quick and strong cutting power.
A little bit heavy but ok for me and I am 70.
Cannot believe the value, I paid 99 for it.
I fully extended it when using and then cut up the logs on the ground. The fact it is on a pole makes it safer for user compared to a hand held chainsaw.
Remember to order chainsaw oil as none is provided.
I spotted this B&D pole saw at a bargain price of 69.95 having looked at it previous to use in trimming a silver birch that overhangs a pavement and part of our driveway. I bought it straight away at the lower price. Arranged delivery for a Saturday as there is no way that anywhere would accept this for collection as the box it came in is 2m long. The blade/chain needed attaching but that was easy. Chainsaw oil is essential as none is included.
The saw made short work of the silver birch and maybe I got a little carried away as I don’t think I’ll need to use it again for at least a couple of years. Very easy to use with or without the shoulder strap. When using it at full extension it can be a little bit of a handful, you just have to take your time. It coped with some pretty thick branches with ease, just let the saw work at its time and don’t force it.
Overall I’m very impressed and at 70 quid plus another 6 quid for the oil I have saved myself a small fortune by not having to get a tree surgeon in to take case of the tree. Only problem I have now is to dispose of the waste wood responsibly.
Bought this on prime day for 77.99. There were no instructions in the box at all which leads me to believe this was a returned item where somebody ordered it and on reading the instructions, changed their mind and returned it without putting the instructions back in the box,and then it was sold as new to me.
This does not put me off as it was heavily discounted from 131 or somewhere around that figure. As for the missing instructions, that didn’t matter either as youtube is a godsend for any tutorial on any given topic, it’s like a modern day encyclopedia for the beginner. Don’t forget to buy some chainsaw oil as well because it doesn’t come with any.
Easy to put together after soaking the chain in chainsaw oil, (i left mine to soak overnight) dabbed off excess oil with kitchen towel and followed a quick video on youtube and it’s built in minutes. (don’t forget to put oil in the small reservoir before beginning your job)
Did the job i bought it for in double quick time, but it is a little top heavy when it’s extended, but i expected that anyway, so just take a little care and everything will be fine.
knocked a star off for easy to use simply because it is top heavy and you need to be careful when you cut through a branch as the momentum wants to carry the chainsaw forward.
The one job i’ve done with it has already paid for itself as a tree surgeon or landscape gardener would have charged more than i paid for it, and the good news is i have got it for the next time i need it.
All in all, this was a very good buy.
It’s a little heavy – particularly when the pole is fully extended. However, this thing cuts through branches like butter. The weight works in your favour when you rest the saw on a branch & let gravity do the work. I’ve used it a lot & had no issues (so far) with the chain coming off like some reviews. For the price, it’s a very nice tool.
Great new toy for cutting tall trees
This is a great product very good if you want to chop down high branches, easy to use once setup. Oil refill is very handy. The instructions could use some work, I watched a YouTube.
Arwen weakened the 30-foot leylandii- it was on its way to returning the shed to its original flat-pack state.
1st tree surgeon estimate was 1400, the 2nd asked for 485. The pole saw was on offer for 95 so it was a no-brainer really.
Never used anything this powerful (or with the potential to maim) and was a bit nervous, so it’s useful to read the bumf, do the naming of parts, and be careful and thorough putting it all together (the instructions are basic but it’s a reasonably straightforward process). I didn’t use the strap- it was awkward and was just another trip hazard/annoying bugger.
Here’s what I learned:
1. Get used to the weight of it, how it balances, try it out on some low, lighter branches.
2. Learn your limits (how far you can reach, with it un-extended/extended)- then stick within your limits. Let’s face it, it’s heavy and awkward, especially in tight spaces. Use your head, otherwise it might not be on top of your neck for very long.
3. Watch your footing and your balance- I stood on terra firma or the picnic table, if I’d been up a ladder I would have been much more circumspect in what I did. That’s especially the case if you extend for a high reach- the balance/weight changes drastically
4. Line the saw up before you cut. I thought it was like taking a shot in snooker- I would place the saw blade where I wanted to cut and for stability rested the body of the saw against the bough or the stump of a lopped off branch.
5. I didn’t have a problem with kick-back but watch out for springy branches (the vibration transfers to the saw which will also become springy) and let the saw stop fully before moving it to the next bit- same as any kind of power tool, really. Get a hard hat and wear goggles- it spits out a load of dust. I took on a big evergreen tree- the thick foilage would snag even the heavier, longer limbs or at least slow them down a bit as they fell- but be careful- bare branches will seek vengeance and try and grab you- don’t bite off more than you can chew.
6. Handling it is fairly safe- release the trigger and it cuts out- and you have to release the trigger to put the thing down, it’s not a Texas Chainsaw Massacre kind of thing you can throw around one-handed. It’s still bloody sharp at the business end though, so watch out how you grab it and put it down
7. Do the usual stuff with corded tools- don’t get your feet tangled up. The gaffer was supervising so when I’d done a bit I got her to unplug it.
8. It cuts through fairly thick branches and trunks. If you want the wood for the stove, cut the length you want there and then- it’s a swine and a bit iffy cutting logs later because you’re then entering kick-back territory.
9. Maintenance- make sure there’s oil in it, keep an eye on the chain (it gets a bit loose after you’ve been at it for a bit) and clean it after use- oil and sawdust builds up. Kitchen towel and an old paint brush will do it.
10. Only 4 stars overall- I’ve been using it a lot, thanks to Arwen, Dudley, Eunice et al, and it’s done everything I’ve asked of it. The only issue I’ve had is the last time I used it (Dudley took out the plum tree- it was just starting to give us fruit as well). I noticed the pole was very oily, just where you want to grip it. I’ve been very meticulous in putting the oil in it and always wipe off excess oil, so it’s coming out of the thing somewhere. Might be worth keeping an eye on.
very good
his is a very good product easy to assemble and use
Outstanding tool
Very practical for reaching higher areas of the plant. Very good quality tool and practical. Hope long term reliability match the brand standards. Recommended
All good for a corded chainsaw
Did what I needed. Bit heavy but it is fairly cheap. Great if you only use it once a year on a small area
Great bit of kit - saves so much time
Saves so much time and effort compared with using a manual pruning saw on a pole. Should of got one years ago! Not too heavy. The instructions aren’t great – I don’t think they even tell you to put chainsaw oil in the reservoir.
Works well, easy to use.
I used this to cut down tree branches and the machine did so efficiently.
Best tree cutter I have bought!
I have various chainsaws and loppers to keep our garden trees in check – this one is definitely the best!! In particular, it cuts very well through branches 4-5inches, and most of all, I feel very safe using it (I’m female mid 50’s) because the long arm puts a good metre between my body and this super fast sharp blade. I have a close chainsaw, but I never really feel safe using that by comparison- this long arm gives me the security I crave.
It cuts well – I drizzle the chain with a a few drops of chainsaw oil before each big cut.
The long reach is fantastic as I don’t have to use the ladder as often. This is now my go-to garden pruning tool.
It is heavy, be warned, so make sure you are well balanced, and always use heavy gloves and security glasses.
I went for a cable rather than rechargeable as I can just keep on going on full power all day
Useful length for cutting and easy to use.
The pole is a useful length and saw cuts through branches easily. Easy to assemble and you should put lubrication oil in it.
Great for trimming low but out of reach hanging branches.

Cuts well in pruning branches, pleased with automatic oil reservoi
A bit heavy and un-balanced to use, but understandable with 10 foot reach. Cuts well in pruning branches, pleased with automatic oil reservoir.
Very good for the money
Does what it says. Make sure you tension the chain correctly (use the black tightening screw) and also flip off the orange chain guard plastic tightener with a screw driver and give it a few turns with the spanner provided. Double check you have the chain the right way around and all good. Recommended for around the 100 mark or less

Quality Build .
Love this Chain Saw. Just make sure you fit the Chain The Correct Way Around. If it will not cut and Smokes .
Stop and change the chain around. Keep checking The Oil and The chain Tension. It will stretch at first.
Buy a pack of new Chains.
Hey you will save a Fortune Doing The Job Yourself. BUY A HARD HAT A MUST/ They are about 5+/Saved my old Head. Enjoy.
Value for money
Great value for the price. Cuts well and will take off quite large branches (4 or 5 inch diameter) easily if you work up the branch) Reach not as long as some when extended, but perfect for a non-professional with a high maintenance garden.

Best money ever spent!
Literally best money ever spent! After receiving ridiculous quote to trim our extremely tall conifer hedge, we bought this to do it ourselves, and its amazing! Very sturdy, cuts cleanly and quickly. Just keep an eye on the oil level, as it goes down quickly. Best item I’ve ever bought, what an investment!

bought for my father to do his garde
my dad said this is a really nice piece of kit for the price, only downsides is that there is no wireless option available.
Arrived on time, easy to use
Decent price, easy to use and assemble, did the job. Good value.
Perfec
Having only ever used and purchased petrol driven chainsaws, I was sceptical about buying this item, but needed it as the overhanging branches from railway embankment that ladders alone couldn’t reach. Worked perfectly, no problems, just keep oil topped up.

Highly recommended
Have used this in anger for the first time and it did not disappoint. Cut through a 10 inch tree effortlessly. Highly recommended.
Great Saw
Bought this chainsaw to reduce a beech hedge by around 4ft. It tackled the thicker branches no problem & made the job much easier. Would highly recommend.
Trimmed the overgrown bush
Late night purchase, after a couple of beers!! However I’m impressed, trimmed my massive bush & the neighbours bush, it’s easy to use, very smooth, and can cut through some substantial thickness.

Good tool .
Very easy to assemble and a really good tool that does a good job . Very good value for money .
Made light work of topping the tree
Used this to take 5 feet off a conifer in the garden. Don’t know how i would have done it otherwise without calling a tree surgeon. Easy to put together and after I had lopped the tree it made short work of cutting everything up so it could all go in the garden waste bin. Would be useful if the saw could be detached from the pole for some jobs but other than that good item.

Good bit of kit - did the job
Better than I expected. No issues putting it together and having used it for about 30mins have had no issues with loose screws etc. I think some reviewers just haven’t put it together correctly. Cuts branches effectively but is very top heavy as you’d expect (that’s where the weight is concentrated), so imagine it would become a little unwieldy after extended use. 4 stars as it’s not as powerful as my petrol chainsaw, but that’s to be expected. Overall, would recommend.

Great powerful cutter that is not to heavy
I searched for hours to find a good cutter like this and this is a great cutter just dont forget to buy some chainsaw oil at the same time. I have used this a few times now and it makes pruing out trees so much easier than a saw!

Tree pruning made easy.
This really did the job for pruning the tree’s over hanging branches, much easier than I thought it would be. It extends easily and is still easy to control. Brilliant.

I bought this to trim a fairly hefty overhanging branch. I didn’t want to try to get up high on a ladder with my Husqvarna chainsaw so I thought I’d try this.
I assembled the chain (fairly tight, you should be able to lift the chain no more than a centimetre at the mid point when tensioned), filled the reservoir with the usual chain oil and then got to the cutting.
It performed much better than I expected. It was easily cutting through branches 15cm thick. It was light enough to get to the branch at about 3-4m. I just placed the blade above the branch and let the saw cut down through it under its own weight. Just had to be careful that the bit I cut off didn’t fall on me.
If you are used to using a regular chainsaw then you won’t be disappointed at the extra reach this gives. For the price I’m very pleased with it.
Good buy
I got this to prune an old and overgrown apple tree. The assembley instruction are not great but once you start all becomes clear. Not too difficult to manage when you get your stance right, bearing in mind that it is top heavy. The knob used to angle the saw head was very stiff and remains quite difficult to turn but that’s a minor gripe. The chain oil chamber is very small so you do need to keep your eye on it. All in all a good piece of equipment that cuts through branches like a hot knife through butter!

A joy to use and surprisingly robust.
I must admit I wasn’t holding out much hope for this piece of kit but after a few seconds using it, I was very impressed indeed!
Very easy to assemble, very easy to use and incredibly handy. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy the same again.

Cost effective tool for occasional pruning
I bought this product for less than 100 following two quotes of around 500 to prune my overgrown apple tree. I made approx 40 cuts of branches up to 4 inches thick with no problems. Very pleased with my purchase. Removing cut branches from the top of the tree required some effort and should be considered in advance (I used a long pole).
Easy to assemble and clean after each use.
As others have stated, the instruction leaflet should have been updated to correct errors and omissions since 2014 publication date. Not good for a company like Black and Decker. In particular note that no mention is made of filling the reservoir with oil even if this should be obvious (most of their written instructions are equally obvious). There has also been a design change that deleted the locking nut 8 and hence makes the provided spanner unnecessary. The chain tensioning instructions are thus confusing as they cannot be followed.
I did not find the tool heavy and it was easily controllable at full pole extension.
I would not recommend the tool to someone that often requires to prune trees but it seems ideal for the occasional use for which I bought it. Note that I have not had reason to test it on branches thicker than 4 inches.

Impressive, most impressive ...
Firstly, don’t forget to buy chainsaw moil and I recommend following the guidelines for leaving the blade to soak in oil for an hour. When I actually started using it I found it, at maximum extension, fairly well balanced. It is also, very powerful. Simply placing it on a branch and depressing the start button results in it chewing its way through branches and trunks with ease. I easily lopped off branches up to 5 inches think. It does have a tendency to become forward heavy at maximum extension over prolonged use but it is easy to manipulate, powerful and very handy. The only downside is getting carried away with slicing through trees. After use I ensured to clean the blade housing, remove the blade and place it in oil. There’s no easy way to store the cable so I just wrapped it around the frame. Very good and value for money (I paid 97).
Superb
I was a little dubious in making this purchase having had bad experiences of similar products in the past. This has become a godsend since the beginning of the lockdown in March 2020. I have rejuvenated my garden and without a doubt I could not have done it without my hardy friend. Easy to assemble, maintain and clean and a real Terminator in the garde

Could do with clearer assembly instructions, bit heavier than I thought it would be but overall would recommend
A GREAT PIECE OF KIT.
Being an 83 year old I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew. I found that this was not so when I cut off branches from an Oak tree I have at the bottom of my garden, it did the job and letting the saws weight and little pressure it cut through the branches with ease, the biggest being 6 inches in diameter.
