A good drill for the occasional DIYER
I purchased this drill complete with two batteries and a hard case as it was cheaper than purchasing a single, let alone twoinbatteries for a perfectly serviceable Draper 18v drill.

Black and Decker produce good tools as a reasonable price and I am very pleased with this purchase. It isn’t as well made as some competitors, but the price difference and an accepted brand name make up the the reduction in quality. So what does the drill do?

    +. Two drill speeds
+. Hammer drill option – it will penetrate hard masonry at a reasonable rate.
+. Keyless chuck which holds both drills and the included screwdriver attachment firmly
+. Torque control with 10 settings

The drill is very compact and is quite light, which might suit an older user.

Overall a great little drill, two batteries, light and more than up to the job for those like me, who require a drill periodically.

So good we got our dad one for Christmas
I AM NOT A DIY MAN! I am more like Frank Spencer when it comes to DIY and putting flat pack items together, I also lose the plot very quickly and my screwdriver could easily be found embedded in the wall or worse, a person!

But having this instead of a handheld screwdriver is priceless!
I have purchased cheap battery screwdrivers in the past but they were just as bad as a normal handheld one, atleast a handheld one didn’t run out of power after one screw!!

This Black and Decker though has been a Godsend and although it was a good price and saves me getting angry, I’m less likely to throw it at the wall!

My father in law liked it so we surprised him with one this Christmas

Used this for drilling into brick. No issues at all. Nice range of torque settings plus 2 speed settings. Probably wouldn’t handle professional work for long periods but for household it’s very good

Good battery drill but the box...
Likes. Lightweight and manoeuvrable, a good all purpose drill. No problem with the chuck as mentioned in some reviews. The drill only comes with a 1.5A battery which is a bit lightweight in comparison to others. I have some other B&D battery tools so have spare batteries. Dislikes. The carry box it comes with is useless. It has been cut down in size to make it impossible to fit the drill in with battery attached (yes, you have to remove the battery to fit it in!) and you cannot fit the drill in with a bit in place. Who designs these things?

    Good for a first drill
This is my 1st drill so I had to go online in search of videos how to use. A good manual would be useful. It doesn’t come with bits so I had to order these separately which delayed my diy. The box it comes in is strange as it’s not obvious how to fit the drill and battery back in for storage.

    Very impressed
I bought this to install my ring doorbell and for a couple of jobs inside the house. Because I live on my own and I’m not very good at this sort of thing I ask my landlord to come round who does a few odd jobs whenever I need them. He was so impressed that’s the drill that he brought with him he decided not to use because he said that this one was far better and also he was very impressed with the ‘Black & Decker’ drill bits that accompany the item. I do have to point out that they are bought separately through ‘Amazon’ because they don’t come with the drill itself.

    Great little drill
Great little drill for the price. Looks like it will do all we need it to and more and in this price range it was by far the best. That is Unless you took a chance on a Umbungo make which looked more enticing with two Batterys that promised the earth or went for a item with less spec but a well known brand with a history to fall back on.

Better than a drill with cable.
My first cordless drill after 50 years of plug-ins. I did have doubts about power but there was no need. Miles easier to use and store than a corded drill. I’ve used it briefly so far for wood and masonry and as a screwdriver with no problems. I even drilled a 1″ hole with a spade drill through a 2″ wooden door lintel. The storage box is a bit iffy. A bit of a Chinese puzzle putting the drill and battery back in after I forgot to remember how it arrived and, getting the battery charger back in the same box? Forget it! I’m getting an extra box for the charger. The battery is stored in the same box but disconnected, which is the safest way. There is space for an extra battery (not included). On the whole – very pleased with it. Just pick it up, snap in the battery, insert a bit and go.

    Worth buying
Did my research for a cheap cordless drill to do a shower install. This one fitted the bill. Needed to drill both wood, metal and masonry and it did this no problem. It comes with a plastic carry case but it would be handy to show where the charger goes when returning it to the case as there are numerous plastic shapes inside the case so it was a bit like doing a jigsaw to see if the part fits. Worth the money though.

I only need a drill for small household jobs and this fits the bill nicely. It is easy to operate and has plenty of power in it. I also like the fact that it’s red as it’s easy to see as i’m always losing things. This isn’t my first Black and Decker product as I have a scorpion saw which I love and it’s great to see that the quality of their items is consistent.

    Great piece of DIY ki
I already have one of these drills, but when I saw this one, with gears and hammer action for 50 quid, I had to have it. I use my other one for screws and this one for drilling holes. Very capable piece of kit. Batteries last a good while, but take a good while to recharge as well, so I have a couple of spare batteries on standby.
Well worth the money, and get used all the time.

    So far do good
I did not have high expectations but so far have been quite impressed. All functions work and the hammer function was really impressive. Battery life is a concern as there is no way of establishing the remaining charge so other than waiting until it goes flat the life cannot be determined. Perhaps the new 2.0 a/h battery will have an indicator. At this stage I cannot comment on its long term efficacy.

    I love this drill!
I really like this drill. I am not usually a fan of cordless drills, but this one is a pleasure to use. It is fairly small, in my opinion, but honestly, it is a pleasure to use; strong, comfortable to hold, the battery lasts quite a long time and I have done so much with it already- shelves, bookcase, hanging a blind and so on. I am looking for more to do with it, that is how much fun I am having with this drill! It comes with a case, a battery charger and a standard screwdriver head/bit offering both cross head and flat head. For the price, this is fantastic value for money. (I was using a Bosch corded drill before)

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersA great drill and drive
I’ve had one of these and used it regularly for over 10 years and can certainly recommend it as an ideal drill/driver. 2 speeds which are also reversible and controllable depending how hard you pull the trigger, optional hammer action and an invaluable variable torque setting.

As I often find myself swapping drill and driver bits I thought I’d treat myself to a driver. Surprisingly I found drivers don’t seem to have that variable torque control, going more for all out power and grunt. So I thought I’d go for another of these as I often use the torque control so I don’t bury screws too deep or strip a thread. Was pleased to find they were still available.

I had 2 batteries with my original so only needed the single battery option. Battery life is fine and found they can easily handle a day’s diy use. I tend to charge as needed so often been glad I’ve got an extra battery. Recharge in an hour or so.

Newer one is identical except there’s no longer a led light in the base of the handle. Handy to have at times but not a problem for me.

Overall great to have these. They do the job well with full control. It covers nearly all jobs from drilling into masonry, to assembling flat packs and hole cutting. Any heavy job needing a bigger diameter bit I use my corded drill or SDS.
I’m more than happy to recommend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWorks well in masonry for a cordless device
I’ve wanted a cordless hammer drill for ages but didn’t think I could justify it because I have a brilliant Bosch mains hammer drill I bought back in 1998. The problem is you can hear it from several roads away when on hammer action.

I have bought this for small jobs only. I have tried it on brick with a draper 3mm masonry bit only. Without hammer action, it drills but very slowly. When I stopped drilling, turned on hammer action and tried again the bit sank into the brick quite quickly. The percussion noise level was much much lower than my Bosch.

The drill is well made, feels good in the hand, and is quite light compared to my mains drill. I can’t comment on battery life as I’ve only just bought it but I’m sure it will be OK. The battery can be used on other Black and Decker devices which may prove to be useful in future.

I like getting a case with it and the fact that it is a well known make at a very good price.

I read several reviews that bothered me before I purchased. However, I read the user manual carefully when it arrived and am following the instructions…

You should manually tighten the chuck only. Don’t operate the drill and hold the chuck.

Only change gear or mode when the drill is not being operated.

Don’t put too much pressure on the drill when operating.

    Etc etc.

Im hoping this will last a while and am pleased with my purchase.

It was more than up to the job of a couple of solid pine furniture flat packs and by that I mean a large sideboard with cupboards and drawers and a tall bookcase with a cupboard underneath! Oh, and easily a single charge for each (he made them on different days, so automatically put the battery on charge between!)

I was sick of swapping my drill bits and screwbits with my single drill so had a biggish project coming up so bought this on the off chance. It’s a really nice little drill, battery life is good, and is powerful enough to do most common DIY jobs. If you have some tough stuff to get through, then this might not quite cut the mustard, but everything attempted so far, it’s been perfect. Light is really bright and the trigger offers smooth control. Its well balanced which is surprising and represents good value. My only real critique is having to remove the battery every time I put it back in the case, my Bosch stores with the battery connected. It really isn’t a big issue, just more of an annoyance. Battery charging is quick and it will serve you well if you need a backup or like me something to use along side another. Great Drill, Good Value, recommended.

Great little drill. Lost a star for the diabolically cheap case and charger though. Is it really that difficult to produce a case you don’t have to mess around for half an hour to get the drill back into? And a charger that doesn’t look as if it would snap if you picked it up the wrong way?

A briliant battery powered screwdriver, but with drilling and hammer functions
For the price it is remarkable. I hope it lasts, my previous eBay Chinese one lasted almost 7 years.

My old one was very heavy due to the cheap battery, whilst this Black and Decker feels like a feather.

The drilling mode is fine, however for masonry make sure you plan for a several hour break whilst the battery recharges if you only have one. It can drill through a cavity wall on hammer mode, but it will drain the battery.

However, if you are going to be using hammer mode a lot, this isn’t for you – get a Makita!

The power, weight and battery life is excellent. The power tends to be better the less force you apply and let the drill bit do the work, I have found this bit of kit well worth the money and it is so handy without the lead interfering with the drilling operation, because the drill is more versatile in smaller spaces.

I purchased the drill to use it for screws instead of a screwdriver, but it has proved to be a very nice and powerful drill even for drilling through plasterboards, bricks and even wood. I did not test it on concrete. It does the job neatly and it does carry a lot of power when it comes to tightening or untightening, screwing or unscrewing screws. It sits very comfortably in the hand and is light in the hands while working with it. I haven’t tested the overall battery life since I rarely use it but it definitely holds more than 2 hours of work. I definitely recommend the purchase.

I bought this after people have reviewed saying it drills brick, i bought masonry bits and made sure it was fully charged but this doesn’t drill brick at all and now I have a mess on my walls from attempting to put up some shelfs. Pretty frustrating now i will have to pay someone to do it, which defeats the purpose of buying a drill in the first place.

Amazingly powerful for such a small tool
Decided it was time to replace my 20 year old drill – and this little thing shows how technology has progressed leaps and bounds in that time. Battery lasted all day on a fence build project, lots of torque, nice and light.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersA great little drill for the money!
My sister’s old drill conked out and she was desperate for another one, in order to do necessary DIY tasks and this drill took her fancy. She was surprised at how light it was to handle (compared to the heavier workhorse that conked out on her), that it was easy to determine when the battery pack was fully charged and it does the job even better than the last one. She’s delighted with it.

Golden Review Award: 109 From Our UsersNice drill
The drill arrived in its own nice case. It is easy to use and change the various bits. You can do almost without reading the instructions. It’s my first drill so I might be less demanding than other reviewers, but I rebuilt a garden bench with this, making holes in the slats, tightening bolts and driving in smaller screws. I’m a small woman and felt completely comfortable with this in my hands. I’m so happy with it that I bought other attachments particularly for sanding and paint removal. As I discovered drills are not only drills anymore. A new world opened up to me. 😉

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGood hammer function, excellent battery.
Can’t recommend enough. Excellent battery, good on masonry and wood. Wonderful convenience.

I used to hate battery drills, had an old Bosch one that was good for nothing apart from screwing screws a bit faster. But during lockdown, this little thing has helped make planters, a mini summer house for the kids and put plenty of holes in brick walls as my better half tells me where she wants more photos up or where to add planters to the garage wall.

I went for this over a few others due to the hammer function, a bit pricier, but I’m glad I went for it. It’s not as speedy as a corded, but it’s close enough that the convenience of not having to plug it in well outweighs the extra 20 seconds it takes for masonry. Battery seems to last ages, and I’ve done plenty of ‘pallet wood projects’ throughout lockdown. Very happy overall.

It's good but was hoping for more powe
I was hoping that by paying a bit more than the budget drills, the power might be better, but it was a bit of a let down. I’m not sure if it’s the voltage that makes it more powerful or not, so I hoped that the brand name might add some power! It’s fine, just not impressive. I wish I had paid a bit more now for something better, or paid less for something similar.

    B+D 18v drill. WHAT A LITTLE BEAUTY!
This is a cracking little drill. Comes in its own carrier with single battery and charger. Easy to use – battery snaps on perfectly and charger easy to connect. Instructions give clear guidelines and useful tips. It does not come with any drill bits. I had bought some Bosch drill bits at a brilliant price. The universal keyless chuck takes these no problem!. A little unit it may be but powerful with wood/ metal/ masonry (hammer drill) giving it no problems. Highly recommend this product. Superb household item to own. Great price.

    Decent drill for the price
This is never going to be a professional’s drill at this price, but it is perfectly decent for averge DIY use, easy to use with straightforward battery charging and fitting, and a better and more sturdy box than many of its competitors. Nice feel in the hand too.

Perfect drill for basic DIY; hammer drill function not amazing
I am no carpenter – this is my first drill – but it is so easy to use and very good for wood and plasterboard projects. I have not tested it on metel. It does seem to have some trouble on masonry. I may need to purchase a cheap wired hammer drill for these jobs as it takes a long time to get through comcrete and brink. All-in-all though, a great product and extremelt reasonable. The design has remained basically the same form decades and for good reason. Five stars despite the lacking hammer drill functionality, as it is still very good value for money.

    Great for household diy
I got this for basic household diy, I’ve gone a bit diy mad since buying it. The battery life is second to none, I’ve only charged it once since having it and it’s had a lot of use. I don’t think it would be powerful enough for heavy use but as a basic drill it’s been brilliant.

    Surprisingly able
Bought to put up a new blind so had to be drilling holes for plugs through plasterboard on one side and concrete the other (old rough walls).

The drill worked effortlessly through plaster but struggled through concrete as expected – however, after a short shut down it was back to it and completed both holes.

Haven’t used it yet on anything else but feels well machined, comes with a solid case and charger and looks the part in the shed.

Would recommend and was worth saving 20-30 over buying a premium brand.

I bought this to replace an older black and decker cordless 18v drill that the battery was dead on. Buying a new drill was almost as cheap as the new battery!

This is smaller, lighter and more compact than the previous model.

As for the functional side, it puts holes in stuff just like it should. 🙂

Easy to use, light, and efficient. Have not used the hammer function yet but all other functions are excellent.

Only thing to note is that ‘kit box’ means the carrying case it comes with.. So just 1 drill, 1 battery, 1 charger and a hard shell case. Only has 1 double-headed drill (flat and Philips head) no additional drill it’s or screw heads come with it.

    Great tool unusable kitbox
The tool itself is great, esp for the price – powerful enough for any kind of drilling, as well as handy for other purposes. Only gave it 4**** because the kitbox is not useful – it only fits the thing fully dasassembled, i.e. in transportation mode, and not suitable to store it at home when you need the tool pretty often.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersThis is a fine drill, but don't expect miracles from the hammer setting
This drill is great for wood and plasterboard.
When I used this drill on a solid wall (using the hammer setting and the correct stone/brick drill bits) it went through fine for the first few inches and then stopped, presumably a more solid stone was behind the first layer. I borrowed my brother’s corded hammer drill and it completed the job perfectly fine.
Long story short is the ‘hammer’ drill setting seems to only be so powerful and may only go through brick and not a more sturdy material such as breezeblock or concrete.

My personal recommendation is buy this drill for generic cordless drilling and get a more powerful corded one for the heavy duty drilling.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersDecent quality for basic home DIY use.
I’ve given this several months of some pretty heavy use, and many holes drilled into hard brick and concrete, and it’s never had a single issue. Even the small included battery lasts a reasonable length of time. This will not last long on a building site, but it will last a long time for standard household duty, no matter what you throw at it.

A good quality “entry level” basic hammer drill for DIY and occasional heavy use.

If it goes the distance then it will be 5 stars.
Handy when working up ladders and in awkward spots or where there are no powerpoints. I have a 35 year-old wolf mains drill that has seen off many others and will batter it’s way through anything, but power leads really are a thing of the past. If this drill proves resilient maybe the wolf can retire.

Excellent tool. I was surprised that such a small drill could could put out so much power, but it had no trouble on brick walls so I imagine all other jobs will be a piece of cake. As well as drilling, it’s also a very powerful screwdriver, and comes with a double-ended (flat/Philips) screwdriver bit attached to its base. It’s easy to adjust the settings; the instructions tell you what gear and torque settings to use for different jobs/materials.

One minor point is that the instructions sheet refers to a safety lock switch to prevent accidentally pulling the trigger when changing bits, but this drill doesn’t actually have such a switch, so you need to either disconnect the battery, or just be very careful when swapping bits. I expect my eye will grow back eventually.

Great bit of kit for someone that needs something stronger than a 6-8v screwdriver (ones shaped like a gun). Can handle all you might want to do within your household with ease. Great torque and battery lasts ages. Can’t beat that price either!

Golden Review Award: 268 From Our UsersDrilliant... get it? Yeah... I regret it too... I’m sorry
Dad joke aside it’s a great drill, long battery life, nice style and lots of settings to fulfil your every drilling need. Also something about torque and gears etc. etc. I don’t know what any of it means in terms of making holes but it all sounds very impressive. In summary, if you want to make holes where there are no holes, or put screws in holes that already exist or even where they don’t, buy this drill.

I bought this to replace my old cordless drill as the battery no longer held a charge. So far this drill has lived up to expectations – battery life is good and the battery retains charge well when not used (my old drill lost charge when stored – so would often be dead when you wanted to use it). Drilling power is fine for everything I’ve asked it to do so far – mainly into wood and plasterboard but I wouldn’t expect it to drill large holes into masonry (I’ll use my corded hammer drill for that). All in all very happy with this – if you accept the limitations (it’s not going to manage heavy duty work) then it’s a great bit of kit for the price.

This is a sturdy and reliable cordless drill. It feels well made and not flimsy like some Of the cheaper drills I’ve purchased in the past.
I bought this after reading a few Amazon reviews as I needed something that was powerful enough to be able to drill into a brick wall and I haven’t been disappointed. I used decent drill bits, which I am sure helped a bit, and the drill did its job with relative ease. In all this is a good all round drill and excellent value for the price, with the benefit of a well know brand as the manufacturer!
