Both my neighbours use electric mowers and my grass looks better… I’ve used many different mowers, petrol and electric and my grass has never looked better/shorter. I should get commission I’ve got that many people to buy one of these. Unreal. I’ve even used it in the rain and it work a treat, got to get the grass cut rain or shine.
Bought this to take with me to Barbados when I moved over there. It does a great job. But, it does take a lot out of you (or maybe I’m just un-fit!). I’m thinking the latter!
Bought this as I have a small garden and didn’t wanna pay 100’s. Works a treat! A bit fiddly to put together but does a good job! My grass is looking more healthy too since using this! My 10 year old has used it too so it’s not to hard to push along.
..10 minutes, big machine for 54 euros, said second but it was obvious it had never been assembled, box was battered though, very big machine, don’t like the rigid collection box and haven’t used that yet, important to set the cutting depth and height correctly with push mowers, it’s a good bargain for that price and good quality product & environmentally friendly
I’ve been using it for a while now and it works good. If you have a nice even lawn, then absolutely it works a treat. If you have an uneven surface – like us – it does work nicely, however you will need to put a bit of strength behind it to get it all done. It also takes me a bit longer to cut the grass as it usually requires two rounds
Great machine, and environmentally friendly. Need a little effort in the set up and the roller come have been a little heavier to get the stripes, but overall does why it says on the tin.
Very simple very practical machine. Nice stripes! Only problem is the grass box, with regard to my mower when the grass box is fitted most of the grass misses the box. Tried readjusting to no avail but most of the time I don’t normally collect up the cuttings anyway. The mower might have difficulty cutting longer grass, but if you keep the grass short and cut it regularly this is good value for money. Will need to see how long it does the job of course before I can fully comment.
Surprisingly effective at cutting a grass lawn of approximately 12m x 8m in around 20mins.
It was easy to install and only required about 10mins of tinkering to get the blade angle right; you’ll know it’s right by the feel.
I set up the blade by winding down the blade to the max and slowly lifting/loosening until the abrasion against the sharpener was coarse but not difficult to push past.
It stores perfectly in my 180L Keter storage shed/box and is light to take in and out of storage.
Keeping it clean has been easy, you usually only have to reverse blade to sort any jams and with regular mowing (usually once a week) you won’t have any jams at all.
Grass collection is the only downside I’ve noticed from this when compared to a flymo as it seems to fling cut grass back into the drum a lot rather than the box.
All round quite happy with this. Although a fair few review mention it’s easy to setup, I didn’t have the best time doing so. The metal holes in the frame were not lined up correctly so when putting the bolts through to hold in place, it was not easy. I had to hammer a few of them through to get them in.
However once setup was out of the way and I started going, I was really impressed with the results. I’m no lawn-snob and wouldn’t expect this thing to make your garden look better than the retired couples prestige garden next door however it cuts the grass well and has left me content enough.
I did struggle around fencing but plan to nab a grass trimmer for the tough to reach areas. If you are trying to save some money and don’t want to fork out 100+ for electric/petrol mower then this is perfect.
A great mower, with adjustable cut hight & collection box. Yes you have to put a little elbow grease into it, but you soon figure out how to use your own body weight to aid pushing it along. Ideal for smaller gardens, no cables to worry about running over or reaching the plug socket. If anything being manual it saves Me loads of time, I crack it out of the cupboard put it down & go! This also makes the chore of mowing something You don’t actually mind doing far more regularly, because once done a quick brush with a dustpan & brush & back in the cupboard she goes! What’s not to like about that?
Let’s not forget as long as You own this product Your not using a single 1 of electricity! All as our electric prices sore! You could even save on gym membership & just cut your neighbors lawns. Or get the misses back in shape all with the peace of mind she can’t cut the wire’s & electrocute herself 😉 & remember “there’s no school like the old school” & as it’s zero omissions it also saves the lives of baby seals lol, what’s not to love?
This is a very good item and very simple to assemble. It is also easy to carry as its not heavy.
Mine was not like the image. The instructions I had assembled it with the cutting blade facing you. This gives no way to give this an extra push with your foot, like mowers I am more familiar with, where the cutting edge faces away from you and the collection box is in front. You have to push for it to cut and this can cause a mower to sometimes skid rather than cut. It’s a technique I must familiarise myself with rather than how I’ve used such mowers in the past.
I found the handles quite difficult to fit, I had to ask for some stronger assistance, but once this was achieved I was able to set up the blades for the self sharpening setting myself. It is obviously harder work than a motorised mower, but not too bad as long as you don’t let the grass get too long. Easy to maneuver and I would say gives you a bit of a workout whilst doing a useful job. Good for the planet and quieter than the noisy motorised versions. Winner winner!
I love this mower! I got one as I’ve only got a couple of small lawns so getting a powered mower out would be more faff than it’s worth but I’ve ended up a massive fan of it and get quite defensive when people suggest I need to upgrade on account of it not being big and noisy! Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
-It does a great cut, much better than a rotary.
-The rear roller means you get stripes!
-It’s very light so you can just pick it up and turn it round rather than doing a 3 point turn.
-You get it out the shed and mow your grass with no faff.
-Did I mention you get a lovely striped lawn?
-It’s pretty quiet.
-Striiiipes.
Cons:
-Because the cylinder sits between the wheels, there’s a bit at the edge that’s one wheel plus a bit which doesn’t get mowed. I can live with that though!
-If you let the lawn get too long, you will struggle to cut it. The longest setting on the mower is still pretty short, so if you have grass that’s not been cut for a month you’ll be sweating plenty as well as scalping your lawn.
-The lovely stripey lawn might spark a lawn obsession in you and make you start feeding it, scarifying it, leveling it and all sorts…
Reasonably easy to assemble, adjustable for bumpy, average or smooth lawns (only needed once), adjustable height of cut, nice sharp cut grass edges for smooth finish. The rigid plastic grass box is light and can be removed easily for emptying by lifting straight up (i.e. without tipping it over the machine as other reviews have stated). Reasonably quiet in use after first adjusting the blades which was easy to do (tried using it as delivered but it was incredibly noisy and hard to push so the cylinder blades were obviously too tight to the bottom fixed blade).
It does leave a swathe of uncut grass of course around the edges of the lawn if you cut parallel to the lawn edge due to the wheels being outboard of the cylinder, so if that’s a problem for your lawn then you’ll need a strimmer as well or try to cut perpendicular to the lawn edge or have a lawn edged in say bricks for the wheels.
Overall very happy for the money, it doesn’t produce stripes on our lawn due the grass not being particularly fine but not a problem for us as we’re used to a rotary petrol mower without a roller anyway.
Much lighter than our old petrol mower to push and carry and quieter/cheaper to run. Will be interesting to see how it copes with the first cut of the season next spring.
Bought this to avoid using power when mowing the front and back lawns.
It took a little while to figure out how to assemble the unit as the instructional diagrams and text are pretty poor, took a few tries but figured it out on my own.
Took a few attempts to set the rotating blades to the correct height for my lawn and to set the blades into the right place so they cut the grass correctly (didn’t hit the metal plate or leave a gap so it didn’t cut), but once set I no longer need to alter them at all.
The grass collection hopper is a waste of time, grass goes everywhere and only a small % of it ends up in the hopper, I just go over it several times and let the small pieces rot back into the soil.
Because it scissors the grass in the direction of travel instead of a rotating blade which often pulls at the grass , I feel it gives a better finish than my old hover mower and I’ve managed to use it when the grass is wet with no issues.
My old mower used to hit slightly higher spots in the lawn and tear the grass out from the roots leaving bare patches , this unit goes over those spots and just cuts the grass there without leaving any bare spots.
Mower blades just need a brush after use to keep it in trim.
Time wise I feel spend a lot less mowing as you don’t have to sort out power cables and extension cords or keep moving them as you mow , just place it down, push and go.
At first, this didn’t cut my lawn at all, and dug into the soil in the parts of the lawn that aren’t completely flat. I was sweating after a few minutes of use.
Luckily I had read the positive reviews before buying, so I was able to use them to assemble the mower properly, since the instructions included were useless. I needed to watch a YouTube video (Bob The Tool Man) to see where the handle went. It’s very simple, but I couldn’t work it out from the manual.
The blades were set so they didn’t move (which I believe is for transit), but I opened them too far. From reading other reviews, I learned how they need to be set, and with a little trial and error, got the mower cutting the grass perfectly and going over bumps and hollows without issue.
The machine is very light and cuts easily, so it is actually less tiring to use than my electric hover mower. It takes up very little space also.
I didn’t put on the grass box becuase I cut frequently and like the clippings spread.
Read a lot of mixed reviews for this but caught it on sale and thought I’d give it a try. I agree the instructions are quite bare, and I think possibly they are for an older model. However it wasn’t too difficult to work out how it went together. My garden is quite small so this is perfect for it. However, one thing you need to make sure of is that the blades scrape across the cutting section very lightly. I initially had it so they moved freely and it kept getting caught on the grass. After adjusting properly, it cut through no problem.
Good cutter and the machine is light. However I only have a small front garden and I really can’t get into cutting the grass . If you do your lawn you’ll know what I mea
I bought this knowing I was making an unusual decision; my garden is very long and pretty wide, it’s got many types of grass growing in it and a little mower like this really doesnt have a garden the size of mine in mind. I wanted one however because the garden is a swamp most of the year and on the few occasions its dry enough to get out and cut, the grass is so dense and long the electric mowers I’ve had can’t handle it so I wanted try something new.
Setting up out of the box is easy. Very few parts to have to mess around with however the included spanner is pathetic- use your own if you have the right size to speed things up.
The collection tray is a bit laughable; if your grass is too long it won’t stay on and if the ground is uneven or bumpy don’t even bother trying yo use it. If neither apply however, you will find grass just flies everywhere anyway with some landing in the tray.
It does cut however. It struggles with thick mounds of grass, some weeds like doc leaves etc and long grass just bends over and pops back up after you have passed, but it can cut. If you have a shorter lawn this would have no issues giving you the fancy looking stripes. In a jungle like mine however, it cuts it down enough that the roller can be adjusted for a neater second cut. To my surprise it was quicker and easier using this than an electric mower.
I’m actually pretty impressed with it. I’ve used it whilst the garden is still swampy when I wouldn’t even consider using an electric mower and thanks to this I can keep on top of it so it doesn’t get too long.
I’m sure this would be perfect for a small lawn, but if you are up for a bit of extra calorie burning, it’s also able to take on bigger jobs!
Great mower, bought as a housewarming gift and cuts really well and was quicker than using the electric mower it replaced. Grass has a much nicer and more of an even cut. Would definitely recommend.
Great for lawn , very easy to push.got it for teenagers to use without worry of driving over electric wires.
Absolutely thrilled with my purchase (Bosch manual lawn mower) first cut of the year and the lawn mower had absolutely no problems cutting through the tangled grass, leaving a uniformed tidy cut. Grass box also worked effectively and showed no issue of coming off whilst cutting. Highly recommend.
I have always used hover mowers previously but like the idea of going manual and keeping on top of the job. This approach would be better for the grass and force me to not let George of the jungle move back in.
I was a little unsure how I would get on with a manual mower in our back garden due to it being sloped and uneven however, I needn’t worry. The little Bosch made light work of it on the highest cut setting and was a pleasure to use. The cut of the grass is much nicer than I expected and you can definitely see the cut quality difference compared to being ripped apart by t’ol flymo.
The grass collector box caught most of the cuttings, but isn’t great. To be fair eventually when keeping grass short you don’t bother with it and just let the grass cuttings turn to mulch.
Overall I am really pleased with the mower and really surprised how effective it is. Great purchase at 58
I got this to make our lawn mowing less expensive what with power prices leaping through the roof.
We have a big lawn and it can easily take 3 hours to do the whole thing electrically.
That’s a lot of Kilowatts with the electric mower .
I also wanted something that can be whipped out, do a bit and popped away so we can work around the rain.
This comes in a box with the handle in parts and you need to bolt that part together which is easy.
The roller also needs fitting on , also easy.
I had it together in about 20 minutes.
You need to adjust for the type of lawn and set the blade so its touching the outside blade thingummy without getting caught on it. You want it sort of snipping not yanking out lumps of grass .
I did our back lawn in 3 stages (hubs didn’t think it would cut it).
The front lawn will be easy and no needing to set up all the horrible cables that the electric mower would use.
Because it was the first cut of the year, there are a few long bits that needed a quick hack with the grass sheers but it has coped with quite long grass and the whole lawn is now cut.
I found the grass box wasn’t that useful while the grass is long as it got in the way and I took it off (it pushes on).
I think it will be better once the lawn has been cut a couple of times and isn’t so tufty.
Its really light weight, I can easily lift it one handed.
You can un-pop the handle part if you need to for storing.
Simple and easy to use. I’m so glad I bought this and not a petrol or electric mowe
Perfect for my small lawn, low noise, non poluting. You need to adjust things properly and be smart to use it. Most people commenting saying it doesnt work are definitely using it wrong. People have provided advices in the questions which are useful.
My lawn is flat but imperfect, probably 125 sq meters. I am healthy but was concerned the effort of mowing might be high. I was wrong. I can mow my lawn in 25 minutes, start to finish. I do it frequently so I don’t need to collect the clippings, they just mulch back. This was the perfect outcome, I enjoy mowing – which is not the case with a noisey power mower. My dog likes to be in the garden with me whicle I mow, also not the case with a power mower. If my lawn was much larger though, I’d maybe not feel the same. For my lawn though, it’s perfect. Oh, and it was so cheap in comparison, and mower cleanup is simple. Only complaint was I had a bolt missing, but luckily I had a spare that worked.
I’m really pleased having just put it together and given the lawn an initial first cut of the year. Fabulously sharp blades — very, very easy to push and really light weight. Memories of the rusty, family push mower made me wonder about a manual mower. I was a bit worried by some reviewers saying how difficult it was to assemble. Can only assume some people couldn’t assemble a cheese sandwich at a first attempt. Definitely a good choice for aging suburban ecowarriers – don’t forget to leave a wild bit.
Bought it for under my kids tree house and swings, have a ride on lawnmower for every where else. I think it’s brilliant, very light, very easy to put together, does a great job. delighted with i
Is easy to move forwards n backwards but not light to carry it does cut grass but very little at a time but for what I wanted it for was great a very smal patch of grass that grew weird my electric mower wouldn’t touch it but this did do the trick
Remember its not electric mower so when cutting grass it don’t cut a bunch at once it takes a fraction of grass so you are having to do it over n over n over again
Came early good packaging was pleased
What a great little mower, so light and really easy to push (even my wife can use it now 🙂 Mows really close to he edges. The gearing on it means that even when pushed slowly the very sharp blades spin super quick. Because it is so light I can even hang it on the garage wall
Excellent price and well made 10/10
I liked it size, its engineering finesse and found that it produced a better cut and was a real pleasure to use. The metal grass box placement onto its rear rather than the front of the machine also wanted. Verily, a much better machine than many of those electrical objects. An absolute bargain and a wanted item in my shed. Why can’t we make things like this instead of those nightmares that have a flimsy nylon grass box, are awkward to adjust and only fit for the junkyard. Worth every penny!
Purchased to keep the paths tidy surrounding my allotment plot. Thoight it would be heavier. Does what it says. Easy to use and cuts neat and tidy. Only used it once and haven’t adjusted the height…..watch this space for an update.
This is our 2nd purchase of this lawn mower, the first one is getting a bit old now so I couldn’t resist buying a new one at such a good price.
We have an expensive self propelled petrol lawn mower now sitting unused in the garage, because this lawn mower is way better.
It takes a bit of time to get the settings right for your lawn, and you have to mow it regularly, because it won’t cut through long grass, but when you get it right the lawn looks amazing. It is very easy to push, it’s very lightweight, even though we have a pretty large garden, it is a lot less effort than the petrol lawn mower. It cuts the lawn way better than the petrol mower, I really can’t recommend this mower enough, but you have to cut your regularly.
For us it worked really well straight away without needing to adjust the blades. Made a quick job of our lawn. Only downside is the grass flies everywhere so don’t expect a nice neat pile in the collector – you will need to rake up a fair bit afterwards. I was expecting that, so all good as far as I’m concerned. It’s a good little lawnmowe
So far so good, bought in October as electric mower died. Thought I would try a power free alternative to be greener plus I have learned that a cylinder reel mower gives a healthier cut to the grass than a powered rotary mower. It does a nice cut and clouts the grass blades cleanly. It’s not perfect going into tight corners and edges as obviously it needs some forward momentum to turn the cylinder blades. I bought a supplementary set of long handled lawn shears to reach the parts this mower can’t. The only slight niggle I have is that it doesn’t seem to be able to shear weeds down that grow from the lawn. Lawn shears sort this though. Good solid metal body with minimal plastics used in manufacture so if the environment is a big concern you should definitely consider this mower over electric powered plastic bodied rotary mowers. It does feel good to know this mower is green!
Good quality mower and ideal for a small to medium lawn. Easy to use and assemble. Only gripe is that only a small amount of grass makes it to the grass basket. Otherwise very good buy.
Having a small lawn and getting hacked off with cables on my old mower I decided to purchase this old school mower.
I can cut the lawn in the time it takes to get the extension lead out. It leaves a nice even cut finish
My only gripe is the instructions are truly crap.
I ended up constructing the handle by looking at the picture on the box and using my grey matter to assemble the grass collector.
If you can get passed that, this mower shouldn’t disappoint as it leave lovely stripes on the lawn.
Reminds me of a qualcast mower.
Our battery mower died so I wanted to go a bit retro. This was pretty minimal assembly. I like it now I am used to it. I had to get used to that it took more laps to get an even cut. I find four quick laps looked okay to me where before the electric was one lazy lap. Pleased overall.
I wanted a lightweight manual lawnmower that I could leave outside under a tarp. This one does the job. Found the assembly easy, only slight negative is that the grass collection tray is a bit flimsy and doesn’t fit particularly well. All in all, I would still recommend if you want something for a small lawn.
I wasn’t expecting a lot from this. We’ve got a small strip of grass.. This mower did the entire area in less than 5 minutes and left a really great finish Using a really powerful strimmer takes about 20 minutes normally so I’m really really pleased with this. It’s so light too.. the strip of grass is over a small fence and I can easily with one hand lift it over.
Only downside is where the handle meets the mover is just push on rather than bolted and it did come off one side but literally seconds to put it back on so not the end of the world.
Oh and it’s super easy to push.. The grown is flat-ish but mowing was a easy as waking with an empty shopping trolly!
I highly recommend.
Easier to use, quieter & a much better cut to the lawn than my non-cylinder & electric mowers. Cheaper & “greener” too. This means I am using it more often and the lawn is greatly improved.
Only issue is, in the old days of old cylinder mowers there would have been oiling points indicated.
Easy to set up (you need to remember to ease off the blade adjustment which has been tightened for transport). Best my lawn has looked in a while.
Don’t be put off because it is hand powered – it really is so easy to use.
What a brilliant machine. After relatively easy bit of assembly I was off. I was really impressed. Considering it’s a push mower it’s easy to use. My lawn is on a slight incline but it didn’t make any difference it’s really light and manoeuvrable. The grass bin does fill quite quickly and spill out of the front but I just kept compacting it to the back until it had to be emptied. This was the first cut on a newly turfed lawn so was a bit longer than I would have like but I can keep on top of it now. The height adjustment was simple to set up too, just a thumb screw each side of the rear roller. Time will tell how reliable it stays but I am looking forward to finding out!
First things first, the blurb states: “Note – This mower is intended for small areas”. I guess it’s just there to manage expectations, but it’s REALLY not the case if you follow the two tips at the end. You can use this to mow as big a lawn as the one you have.
I bought this to replace a barely functioning non self-propelled petrol mower, and I’ll score this Bosch mower against that.
1/. The Cut. Cylinder mowers like this one, give a far, far superior cut because of the scissor cutting motion. Despite sharpening twice a year, like all rotaries, my petrol mower leaves a whispery grey finish. In just two mows, my lawn has transformed from a shorn hayfield look to something much closer to a bowling green. It’s been quite extraordinary. It does traditional stripes more than a rotary, but obviously not as good as cylinder mowers with a heavy roller. It’s better around shrubs because it’s less bulky, but as there’s a couple of inches between the edge of the blades and the outside of the wheels, it’s not so good against hard edges like a fence.
2/. Effort. I was expecting it to be quite a workout, but it’s not. Slightly more than the petrol perhaps, but it’s really light and maneuverable, so it’s marginal. And I’m getting on a bit too.
3/. Time. It takes an hour to mow my lawn with the petrol mower. I was wary about how much longer this push mower would take, but it also takes an hour. Cylinder mowers are self-sharpening, so no time is required to disassemble and sharpen the rotary blades. No trips to get petrol.
4/. Environmental. Human powered so no fossil fuel burning. The cuttings are really fine and they largely drop between the blades of grass, so I’ve abandoned the collector (the cat has taken ownership for a bed). I’m doing my bit for carbon sequestration here as well as trying to boost the lawn’s carbon content in the hope of giving up on fossil fuel fertilizers. It’s relatively quiet and in this era of home working, I can now mow at any time I like without disturbing my surrounding fellow home workers.
5/. Practicalities. It’s so light, even I can hang it on a wall with one hand, taking up zero floor space. There’s no maintenance listed in the manual, but I dab a bit of oil on the blades anyway. It’s not built to German engineering quality standards and lightness also implies flimsiness, but its simplicity ought to mean a long life. We shall see.
Tip A. As others have mentioned, it’s all about the blade adjustment. As the manual says, you want the cutting cylinder lightly brushing the bottom blade. Get this right and everything falls into place. Avoid mowing over stones or other bulky detritus as they can throw out the adjustment.
Tip B. The effort increases the longer you let the grass grow, so keep to a regular mowing schedule (weekly probably) to ensure the cuttings are fine and your mow is quick and easy. I spend all my working life in front of a computer, so I’m happy to justify a bit of mowing as a break.
So that’s 5-0 to the Bosch. My ownership experience makes me question the need for any kind of petrol or electric mower, especially in this climate emergency. And all at a fraction of the price.
It’s a great mower, but it’s only good for flat lawns with short grass. It’ll get clogged up and stop on longer grass. Brilliant that it uses no petrol or electric though. It’d give it 4/5 overall
Easy to assemble and use. I’ve definitely spent longer building Paw Patrol toys.
Lawn looks super neat, like a football pitch.
There’s a grassbox on the back, which I use, but my husband thinks it’s easier and quicker to not bother with that and just rake/gather up the cuttings at the end. He might be right. He often is.
I used an electric lawnmower and managed to cut through the cable by accident. My friend fixed it for me but stop serviceable after the first use. So decided to invest a manual lawnmower to be on the safe side. Got this for about month and used it once. I got my son to assemble the mower for me and took him approx 30 minutes. Easy to follow manual. Easy to use and was able to cut through without too much effort especially getting the edges trimmed off.
However, I find mower struggled with the tough-weeds (best to avoid) But excellent cutting the normal length for best result.
Overall, I think this mower did a great job and not bad value. Highly recommended.
I didn’t know what to expect. I have small garden…did not want to paid a fortune for a lawn mower. read previews, and I decided to purchase this lawn mower.
Its light and not bulky. It cut the grass fine. Just a little fiddly putting together. Overall pleased with the results.

When I started to cut the grass it was difficult because it was just going over the grass and flattening the grass. But once I finally found how to work it I was so pleased.
It worked wonderfully on my overgrown grass.
My problem was with the bolts it kept falling off and I lost all of them. I had to stitch it up with plasters and it’s been brilliant. I haven’t been able to attach the basket yet.
It doesn’t leave any lines in my garden but the blades are razor sharp.
I really love this little rock and roll machine. It’s saved me money on the electricity bill and also saved me money for paying people to do it for me. I enjoy using this little machine. I would definitely recommend it
After a year use which wasn’t used a lot am afraid I won’t recommend it. It’s broken down woefully disappointed

If you are doubting this mower, don’t! It’s fantastic!!
When you have lots of grass, particularly spread out, it’s so convenient not having to use extension leads etc.
This lawn mover is light, very easy to use and the results are much better than any electric/petrol mower. I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to mow your lawn with this fabulous little machine.
It was surprising that it was much easier and less tiring to mow the lawns with this mower.
Great for limited storage and very lightweight and manoeuvrable.
Would highly recommend – best mower I’ve had!
