Reliable, cheap planer to do the simple jobs. Got this to trim a door, made quick work of it. Limited variation on blade adjustment, but it was under 30 quid on prime day. Doesn’t come with a carry case, just a cardboard box. No frills but reliable. Would give it 10 stars for value for money!!
Easy to use but no collection bag on waste pipe
Replaced all doors in house and this saved me lots of time and effort. Easily attached shop vac hose with minimal mess. Would not use without vacuum unless you like wooden confetti everywhere
This is very good lightweight and very easy to use, like knife through butte
The planer is really good but very disappointed in having to buy a dust bag separately at a ridiculous price which has ruined a good deal. I personally think a dust bag should be part of the m ain’t produc
Would have been a better deal if the price included a dust bag as most competitors machines do.
Needed to take 1cm of a garden fence panel and did the job with ease.
I wanted it to trim the bottom of a door and it did that fine
Just what I wanted, my old plane stopped working and this is more light weight but feels durable. used for home DIY and works well. Delivered promptly and at a reasonable price. Have used Bosch before and always find them good quality products.
Great planer, sharp, easy to use and some neat features.
Basically a sound bit of kit but a bit under powered for heavy stock removal. Leaves a nice finish on less aggressive planing. Easy to adjust and stays set. Use the bag/extractor or you will have one hell of a mess….like I did …haha.
My husband is very pleased with this planer. He does woodwork as a hobby & has found this very useful. A competitive price.
I’m a complete woodworking novice so didn’t want to spend a fortune whilst I’m learning. This thing is great! Adjusting is simple via a knob and the finishes I’ve had so far are flawless. It’s quieter than I expected and the shavings collection bag really does the job.
Brilliant piece of kit. And far cheaper to buy to plain your doors than get someone in. Cuts through doors easily. Only issues are it says a standard vacuum nose will fit to the dust noselbut my shark and Swan vacuums didn’t. Would be great if it came with a dust bag ans also a guide is a must buy. All in all though for the price it is a great buy.
Good product works really well easy to use. Should include collection bag for price.
IwasaBit Bubious of the one blade system, as I used 2/3 blade planers But so far it has been great. Excellent cut I will see how it holds up
The planer is well built works well and is a big improvement on my hand planer. My only issue was the instructions supplied relate to an electric sander!! I managed to find the instructions on the Bosch website and printed those out. The Germans are not infallible!
Used my planer today to shave a few mm from my yard gates (6 ft tall). The planar was really easy to use and to alter the depth of cut. Job was over within 15 mins. Didn’t use a dust bag – Created a hell of a lot of shavings – took me longer to brush the yard than to fix the gates.
Very easy to use and dose the job in no time
I can’t belive I didn’t buy one of these sooner, its been invaluable effortlessly removing layers of wood in no time! Only downside is if you don’t connect a vacuum it makes a mess!
Really impressed with this planer.
Dramatically reduced the time and effort needed to shave our doors. Would definitely recommend.
Cracking price of kit. Tremendous value for money. Easy to use, depth set etc. Recommended.
Didn’t like single blade but doese the job.hanging doors
Great item. Delivered speedily, easy to use and made shaving the bottom doors dead easy!
After fitting new flooring and a carpet, we had three doors that needed planing.
We could have called someone in, which would have ended up costing a day’s labour, or tried to diy it.
I saw this on the Black Friday sale, and decided to save ourselves some cash.
It’s fairly easy to use, with a dial to select the plane depth, and far less noisy than my multitool cutter that has a sanding head.
Following the advice of others I fastened a piece of wood to the end of the door and started planing.
The planed surfaces were smooth, easily removing my botched attempt at using a manual plane and didn’t take long to remove the doors, plane the bottoms and refit.
I couldn’t really have asked for more from a tool for an amateur – recommended.
Like this s lot easie to use and good controle with fine settings
First time using it, a bit hard to get used to, the tool is quite powerful and easy to damage the wooden surface if not use with care. However, once you get more comfortable it is super handy. The only down bit is that it doesn’t come with a wastage bag and there’s only one exit wastage but I managed to connect my vacuun cleaner’s pipe to the wastage pipe of the planner which worked beautifully.
I have no idea why this was in the warehouse, but it was and it was stupidly cheap. It loses a star because there’s no carrying case so it sits in its original cardboard box. However all it needed was the base plate protection to be put back in place (a little red piece of plastic it rests on when finished) which dropped off in transit. I used this for the first time today to pane the top of a door tat wouldn’t close. It took 3 passes and the job was done. It did chuck out a bit of wood shavings …more than you would imagine for such a small job, but they were easy to clear up. Also a bit more dust than maybe anticipated, but there was no doubting how easy to use it was, and what fantastic job it did for the top of the door. This is one of those ‘nice to have ‘ tools rather than must have ones, and I could have used a sander for the same job but it would have been a longer and far dustier job. It’s up to the usual very high Bosch quality so I’m very happy I opted for Bosch.
So easy to use that you can hold a beer and just plane away. I don’t recommend it, but you could if you wanted to. Just a smooth ride. No more handheld heavy iron planes for me.
Looks like a good bargain. Only disappointment is to find out this planer has a single blade, not more.
Other than that its a good diy machine.
I had a cheap plane that deteriorated over the years and was no longer working satisfactorily. I considered buying another cheap one, but I like Bosch tools and as this one was less than 60, I went for it. Ten times better than the old one ever was. Only use it for DIY, but at that it is perfectly competent.
Dogs diddler of planers. However, if you want to plane up to a right angle the motor casing gets in the way ie if planing a surface like the letter ‘L’. Other than that its the business. Just one thing of note – there was no warranty card in mine when delivered.
I had another make which was rubbish so I binned it I bought one of these instead. What a difference. This is much much better and so easy to use. Well done Bosch.
here could have been a dust bag included, however as i use it outside only thats not a major problem. I didnt like the button that needs to be pressed to start it.seems awkward, would have liked a button on the top of the handle to press with your thumb.tis easier. planed an 18″ wide piece of oak and it was a lovely cut very little groove marks (plough lines) between cuts, and after sanding i was very happy. excellent product, I know of a lot worse. havnt tried changing blades yet but we will have to see
This was delivered quicker than promised and is excellent in use fine quality product and easy to use with great results for my DIY woodwork
You can adjust the hith up to 1.5 mm. It has a very good blade and you can rely on it to adjust the door size.
I bought this on behalf of my Father in law who doesn’t do online shopping.
He’s been delighted with it, it gives a lovely finish to the wood although he said it can be a bit of a brute in that it will take off more than required if you’re not careful.
Being Bosch he’s hoping more many years of faithful service.
Bought while on offer it is sensational value for money.
I hope you find my review helpful.
I still hand plane but wanted an electric planer to start fresh timber. I love this tool. Very easy to use and leaves a beautiful surface. Use with a dust extractor. I hook it up to an old Hoover I repaired. Great tool from Bosch.
I spend some time researching planers, it wasn’t a purchase I wanted to make as I was only fitting one internal 25 B&Q door. I actual followed some great tips on YouTube on sizing the door I.e take the old one and mark off the difference… so far so good, but the door was warped and no matter what I did I could line up the two doors.. honestly nightmare. Any case using my trusted circle saw I made the cuts.. nice, fitted the locks and hinges.. so far so good…. the door didn’t fit after all that. Two options continue and cut the door using the trusted saw or get a plane.. the issue is cutting at a slight angle and ending up with a smooth cut. I think I could have done that but two different faces out.. I checked out a load of these.. price ranging from 28 to 180 pounds. I was going to get the cheaper end, but it seems you have to go back to the suppliers to get replacement blades. So that ruled out the cheaper brands. Bosch is good brand and this one was 60 ish pounds. Wow………. fantastic pce of kit honesty it’s not noisy, and it did the door in not time.. a real pleasure to use. I hooked it up to my nitflex t22 wet and dry vacuum. NO dust. If your looking get it.. I will look forward to using this again when the wife wants to change all the doors to oak…
Very effective planer. I’m not a carpenter or expert but just a DIY enthusiast and I was pleased to see how easy this was to set up and used. I was even more pleased with the results. Just need to be careful when going against the grain of the wood as it can split, but overall I’d say this is great.
Nice to use , not as noisy as my last one, and not heavy. Like the drop down guard to save damaging blade. Perfect for DIYer who only wants it occasionally.
Did not buy collector as overpriced and loo role and stocking work just as well, may up grade to water pipe. Should come with this attachment .
Does the job. There’s a clear mark on the side to indicate where the blade is. I’m new to these so some practice is in order. 1.5 cut isn’t very deep so a few passes was needed. Very small and fine chips fly far so a attached hoover or bag will be needed.
Box arrived with no outer packaging and had a slight indent on the box.
I’m sure I’ll get my use out of it. Blade seems to be easily replaced.
Not as good as it’s predecessor which had a flap to control whether the dust came out on the left or right(This is right only, not good for lefties) Apart from that, quiet and efficie
I’ve always used a normal hand plane but needed to create a window ledge out of a big piece of timber (2m wide), I didn’t fancy doing that by hand so shopped around for an electric planer.
I already own a few bosch tools so trust that theyre going to be good quality, and I kinda like having things of the same brand, but this planer also seemed to be the best quality brand for my budget.
Ive gotta say im really impressed and i can’t believe i went so long without one! It made light work of creating a chamfer.
My only gripes are that it doesn’t come in a plastic case and, although ive tried looking, I can’t find one to buy for it. I think decent power tools should come with a case to protect them. Secondly, this creates a lot of wood dust and doesn’t include a dust bag, seems a bit mean of Bosch to me.
Very good product, but don’t think that its right to have to add extra expense in having to buy a dust bag.
After battling with a manual plane I gave in and bought this Bosch… and just completed a door adjustment in minutes. Amazing! I’m female and not especially strong and wish I’d found this tool years ago having battled with other jobs in the past. Well worth the money.
Arrived promptly. My husband is no carpenter or DIY enthusiast, when it comes to DIY think Frank Spencer. However he had this out of the box the minute it arrived and shocked himself at how easily he adjusted and re fitted 3 internal doors. Would definitely recommend, excellent value for money.
Machine is sturdy but not too heavy, easy to use, adjusts the cutting depth very easily and precisely, a pleasure to work with
Dissapointed with Bosch no dust bag provided another 27 .cheaper makes supply dust bag and parallel guide as standard come on Bosch let’s have more customer satisfaction the planer is good just have to spend another hour hoovering the shavings up
Replacement for my old B&D that had just expired in a cloud of acrid smoke. Does a really good job and you can connect the vacuum cleaner nozzel and save the mess. Brilliant!
Goodbye endless sanding hello planing accurately. Cut depth variable to 1.5 mm max. Brilliant bit of kit for keen DIYer. Do get a dust collector attachment to save on vacuuming after use.
Liked the product, only used it once but would recommend it.
Great little tool – used to trim doors for shed and under stairs cupboard. Worth buying a bag to catch the scrapings that blow out from side, otherwise you have more work cleaning up and dusting your clothes.
Used a couple of times and is easy to use.
Item very good for my use, lightweight and easy to use.
Good planer, ideal little tool been needing one for a while.
Bosh Planner enough said, great tool to have in your tool box.
Good product if you want a basic machine to quickly smooth wood. No fancy features but I strongly suggest – connect to a bag or vacuum. 5 minutes planing an hour sweep up all the bits.
Excellent apart from the lack of a dust bag, which is an overpriced accessory, this should be supplied with the plane.
My only problem was the fact that on previous BOSCH PLANERS a dust bag was supplied with all the previos planners and the bag was interchangeable. For whatever reason BOSCH have chosen not to supply a dust bag configuration from an oblong shape to round fitting. I can only assume that BOSCH think everyone now have an electric dust exstractor.
Does exactly as it says, well.
made with quality in mind, and has REPLACEABLE blades, something not always possible with similar items at this price point (on offer at about 50).
Very sturdy to hold, with adjustable depth gauge, and stable use.
Makes nice clean planing.
Has a safety blade protection tag which mean (if) you do put it down with the blade still running (!) it will stand off and not make as much damage.
-there is an OPTIONAL bolt on guide rail that can be purchased (Worth purchase) and extraction catcher bag; as the extraction is very powerful it can make a right mess!! but it does have the same dimensions as a Henry Hoover pipe.
Well made BOSCH product that works very well.
WOULD recommend.
Sry good basic plane no gaurd for rebates but if you only want a basic plane this will do the job.very happy with purchase.
Great product and and saved me an awful lot of time shaving an inch off the bottom of all doors within my house. Would highly recommend.
Bought as a gift so don’t know how well it works.
Not used this yet but you can’t go wrong with bosch
Brilliant and fantastic product iam well happy just what i need for the job i was doing it was worth every penny.Thank You
My Husband was very happy with this product, he used it to plane off the bottom of 2of our doors and he was impressed with the results!
Superb piece of kit. Like taking a razor to a piece of wood.
Planer a lot quicker than ordinary wood plane.one point no mention on carton or on instruction leaflet of guarantee/warranty offered.Phoned Bosch yes has guarantee but cannot be registered on the phone has to be done online. As I have no computer just mobile phone (told by person at Bosch cannot register guarantee on mobile phone).this entailed a visit to local library re get help on there computers. Was in library some time,if not for help from librarian could not have done it.She said very difficult to do on Bosch website she is experienced in these matters as she has helped me before registering a Stanley drill warranty.
I had written down serial number model number etc but not enough had to return home to get planer for some other number. Why do all manufacturers nowadays do everything online NOT everyone has a computer etc I certainly don’t.Brought a Stanley drill some years ago exactly the same problem registering guarantee had to go to library.Product fine, let down by lack of information on warranty offered could see nothing on carton or on instruction leaflet & registering it.
Has done the tasks for which it was bought. Good value & good product.
for those little DIY jobs it is a great little tool and does a good job. my husband bought some reclaimed timber and with the help of this machine made a really nice bench for the garden.
Great product very quiet when used compared to my older models.
For me, more than adequate for DIY jobs and not a bad price. I had a much older Bosch model which was used on doors, some chairs and other sundry jobs before it expired from use – and the newer model is a nice improvement via the calibrated depth/cutting adjuster and feels better in my hands. Things to note:
a- if you’re new to using a planer start low on the setting and do more runs – as others have recorded, getting to the ends of the wood can cause splits and chips. Best put an end-block on, so the planer blade has resistance. Or come back the other way. Sometimes also use masking tape on painted edges to try and prevent paint chips – but with care, as the planer blade won’t appreciate sticky tape!
Remember, you can plane it off but not back on.
b- get some spare blades in stock. I have hit sunken metal and the blades whilst robust for wood, will get notched by nails etc. The blades are easily changed.
c- these tools do generate a lot of dust and are best used outside. I’ve not found the bags to be that good/effective – I have yet to hook up a vacuum cleaner and see what this brings.
Another plus is that it’s lightweight and the power cord is long enough to allow a decent reach. I have used the new model on the top of a wooden front door in situ.
great piece of kit. only draw back (which is surmountable) is the amount of wood ship that flies out of the side exhaust hole. Other than that BRILLIANT!
works well but in hindsight I should have purchased a cordless one
Miss not having the extractor bag – which I knew was not included
it does perform in an undertstated way but it could be better. Saying that I did not want to spend more than 59 pounds so be prepared to eat wood shaving and do wear sensible goggles to protect your eye. Of course i did not want to spend more money on accessories eg.dust pouch
Another fantastic Bosch product. Adjustment works well and great for doors
Well worth spending a little extra for this planer. It is very pleasant to use and does an accurate job.
Power planers have moved on, bought an inshore special a few years back, should have saved my money and bought a Bosch!! Easy to use, lightweight, sharp, powerful planer, easy to adjust cutting depth, long enough lead to be able to plane a decent length of wood, fantastic
Excellent purchase. Easy to use and rapidly planes down large areas. It is a pity there is not a decent bag for it since the recommended Bosch bag is expensive and doesn’t work well.
I`m a tradesman electrician needed to hang some new doors carpentry not my bag but this is the best power tool i`ve bought for a long time time did the job with ease good piece of kit for the money would highly recommend
Love this planer. Ordered one day and was delivered the next. I haven’t used it yet but Bosch is a good name and quality and weight is very good and balanced. Looking forward to using it now, thank you
Had one of these before but now quite worn so invested in the latest Bosch planer-this is reliable and top of the range for its price
Nice clean cut, I’m happy that’s it’s good value for money: Seams well built but time will tell
This bit of kit has been really useful. I bought it to plane down some doors after we had several new carpets fitted. Worked a treat and saved me a fair bit of cash, more than paying for itself in the first job. If you are using the plane on the bottom of the door, think about pinning some wood to the outer edges of the corners you are planning to temporarily extend the width of the door as this helps to stop the ends of the door splintering as the plane passes over.
I managed to bust the blade when planning some recycled timber for a rustic table top and I went over a nail. The blade was very easy to replace and did not require lots of precision set up.
Controls are easy to use and the tool always feels in control when you use it.
It does make a lot of dust and other reviews complain about the cost of the dust bag. I made my own out of an old pair of tights, some soft wire to make a frame and a big elastic band to hold it on. Not perfect but it does catch a lot of the dust. Think a pop sock that ends up looking like a wind sock!
As my cheap tools wear out I am tending to buy Bosch replacements and I have not had a bad one yet. May not be a professional builder’s first choice but if your woodwork goes beyond banging a nail into two bits of wood this is a really useful bit of kit to have in the shed.
Excellent planer, used to plane three door bottoms and one door side, easy to use, good depth adjustment and clean finish.
I bought this as I needed to plane off some doors having recently fitted hardwood floors throughout the house. Its a great piece of kit for the amateur DIY enthusiast, and has tackled every job with ease so far. A word to the wise though, make sure the dust exhaust pipe is pointing away from you when you use it… lesson learned!
If you’ve never owned one, try it! They’re not expensive and give an excellent finish.
Excellent Tool, have recently used to shave a few millimetres off the bottom of some doors which were catching on the new carpets at my daughters house. Although I haven’t got round to using it for this purpose yet, I actually bought it to remove a few layers of paint off the closing edge of my own doors. Would certainly recommend this tool.
Great item would have give it 5 stars but want you to pay extra for the bag.
Used this to plane wood floor blocks to the proper thickness for a floor I was repairing. Worked a treat and held up well.
Excellent at planning, smooth operation and great finish. Felt a bit cheated when it arrived with no guides as I assumed they would be included as standard like all the other planers I looked at hence the 4 stars not 5.
Planer is great and has done the job that I bought it for. The only point I would make is that is easy to alter the blade depth by mistake during the planing operation. In oomparison to the cost of the planer the accessories are very expensive for what they are.
Fantastic piece of kit, makes trimming doors to fit a doddle. But why the heck don’t they include the dust bag as standard? No way it should be an extra 30 purchase. For that reason it drops a star but having said that it’s still superb and easy to use.
Bought this planer as a Birthday Present and what a fantastic job it does. His first job was to plan a new door to fit a very out of square door frame and the finished task looks fantastic. Thinking of buying one myself now to replace my old hand plane, which, could not have coped with this job. Should have bought one for myself years ago.
eally good but expected it to come with dust bag included
Great planer use mine for hardwood logs to shape for tables etc but does a great job and leaves a good finish for sanding just be aware it doesn’t have a guide or dust bug with it but didn’t find that a problem for me
Why did I only decide to buy an electric planer now! So much easier and I’ve got no complaints about the Bosch one, did what I needed it to do with ease, just regret not having one for the last 30 years!
Excellent planer for the domestic DIYer but remember to buy the dust collection bag too, unless you love sweeping up and hoovering…..
Well made and sturdy though not excessively heavy, ready to use straight out of the box,
1st job planing Oak doors, absolutely no problems.
