The handle folds in two places so it stores very compactly. Engine is surprisingly powerful. It can cut easily on the lowest setting.
My husband found this quite hard to assemble- 2 wheels were hidden inside one of the parts. But for small garden it’s good – has wire but that makes it cheaper .
Light weight, easy to assemble and easy to move around the garden . Great for a small garden and for an elderly lady to use
The lawn mower is strong and sturdy, cuts the grass really well and with the height adjustments you can achieve the you want. The grass box collects the grass really well couldn’t see any grass lying around. Very happy with this product.
I am a single women, this was recommended for me as it was light AND mowed to edges! I had to have someone put it together for me, used twice so far and all wheels have come off, My lawn is slightly uneven and mower will not cope with the different levels. I was shocked to see it was made with very fine plastic and parts just do not meet. The box was dismantled and put in the rubbish on the premis that the mower WOULD work. This is not so, need to return. Disgusted with the equipment.
Purchased this a few weeks ago, have used it on two occasions , it was simple to assemble and very easy to use, leaves a nice finish because of the rear roller, I am convinced it was a good buy
This little mower is lightweight but cuts very well. I’ve only give it four stars as although pretty easy to assemble, the handle proved very tricky at the point where it joins to the main mower body, ie the holes for the screws did not line up properly. However, with much strenuous effort my husband and I managed to get it sorted. All in all, it’s a nice, lightweight mower, even if on the cheaper side, and I would recommend it for a smaller garden but please have another person with you when assembling!
I have only used it twice. I am really pleased with this mower. After using a flymo for years, this is a pleasure to use. thank you.
It works ok but does not cut the grass low enough for me. It is at the lowest level but does not
cut the grass as low as my old mower which unfortunately broke. I would not buy another Bosch
mower.
if the cable is longer say 15m and the handle bar is shorter then it’ll be great. long handle bars makes it not easy to make a turn at the end of the lawn.
I have owned three of these and I have found they perform consistently for about 6 years and then need replacing. I managed to sell the previous one for about a third of the cost of a new one. I expect it will keep running OK for another 2-3 years. I have to admit to being a bit lazy and have never bothered with getting the blade sharpened.
As you can see from my video I don’t have a huge lawn. It takes me about 7 minutes from start to finish. There is no lead winder. You could simply wrap the cable around the handle. However, I bought an inexpensive frame to wrap the lead around. I would quite like to have a hook on the handle that I could attach this to.
When the grass is damp I only need to empty the grass bin once. If it’s dry, the grass bulks up and I have to empty it twice. As you can see in the video I had meadow turf laid. As a result it tends to clump as the grass grows. The Bosch 34R handles this when the grass gets as high as 6-9 inches.
The handle can be loosened and folded onto itself to reduce the height for storage. A lot of people mention the grass container being a bit flimsy. In the more than 10 years I have been using this model it has never really been an issue. I have also never had a problem with the power switch, although it can feel a little lightweight.
I purchased this mower to do a friend’s very large lawn. It managed the lawn with ease. The mower is quiet and the grass cuttings box held far more than my previous mower. I managed to assemble it on my own. The only bit I struggled with was getting the back wheels to click on. Good mower for the money
Quite easy to put together although the instructions are only drawings. Wheels can be secured by hitting them with the heel of your hand to make them secure. Very light and easy to manoeuver. Good size grassbox. Starting lever doesn’t feel very positive but seems to work okay. Overall good value at the price paid.
The weight is heavier the expected but it cuts the grass really well. A good purchase for the price.
The ONLY issue is trying to register the guarantee. You get the distinct impreaaion that Bosch don’t want tou to have the guarantee. The website to register is a nightmare. They send you a validation e-mail which never arrives and not even in junk mail. Hopeless.
Cuts well and a good size collection box on the back. Managed our really long grass with n o problems, and has different height settings to help. Very pleased with it for its price.
Right. 5 stars because once it gets moving. It’s super nifty. But watch out for: puting it go together -watch a YouTube video and follow those instructions. Don’t bother with the written one.
Using it – if it doesn’t work, check that the mechanism on the handle is tight by taking it apart and tightening. Then press the button and squeeze handle. Always in that order. Squeeze (like in magnificent seven with yul brenner) slow to get it moving. Other than that. Excellent -really impressed.
Bought this to replace an earlier electric Bosch that has given ten years excellent service. Great value, plug and play. Love the cut height adjuster- just one lever to change cut height. Reliable.
The manoeuvrability as a result of it being narrower and lighter is very welcome. What is less welcome is that the cable is too short by about 2m it would be much more of a nightmare if we had a big garden.
Overall though pleased.
Took a while to assemble (had to youtube it) but after that, it’s a decent lawnmower. Good for the price and was able to cut over bumpy terrain!
Bought this one as a replacement for my rotak 37ER which packed in, very similar mower apart from with width of cut & slightly smaller motor. Nothing is built to last nowadays so it’s dear enough to get 3-5 years out of it. Annoyed as after buying it for 104.99, Amazon have a deal of the day for 75
Works really well, with stripes, and over uneven ground, no complaints here. But.
it has a very small cutting area. Takes forever to cut a medium sized lawn.
Quick negatives first. The lack of instructions in the box was shocking. The instructions were only pics. The pics were not very clear. Took me nearly an hour to assemble the machine and that was thanks to someone put a video on YouTube. Also One of the wheels just kept coming off the machine when the machine was in use.
Also the wire is not that long. You need to use an extension wire if you have a big garden.
The machine itself is actually to be honest 5 stars. Nice and easy to use. Very smooth. Lightweight. Even my 11 year old was finding it easy to use. Cuts grass perfectly. Happy with the purchase. Only lack of instructions and the wheel kept coming off the only negative.
There are some stand out features that make this mower a great buy when on offer at under 110. 1st is a pretty good cut but less obvious is the design of the grass box which when separated from the mower sits at a useful angle to allow extra leaves and weeds to be added without shedding any cuttings.
There are few cons but I would comment that the power lead is too short for even a small 30 x 30 m lawn and the height adjustment steps need to be better spaced.
Does the job!
I have a medium sized lawn (by UK standards – which are quite small). I have had no problems so far.
I have a broken back and this little mower is light and easily manoeuvred.
Hopefully the typical Bosch standard of quality lasts a long time.
Cheers.
Does exactly what a bosch does best no matter how much abuse you throw at it. This is the 2nd one I’ve had and its great. The only issue is at the slightest sign of damp the entrance to the box can become clogged as well as the cutting blade bay. Wouldn’t have any other mower fro my size garden and what i expect the machine to do.
Not easy to assemble instructions not much use. The grass box is flimsy but workable. The mower itself is easy to use a great for my small lawns. Early days but seems like a good produc
Folding down the handle is difficult and the Mower itself feels slightly heavier than the previous model I had. Also the number of cutting heights is now 5 as opposed to the 10 on the previous model. It cuts the grass well tho and the grass box is a good size.
Good easy to assemble budget lawnmower that works very well. Great for my small lawn as its lightweight and fairly easy to manoeuver and cuts close to wall and fence leaving very little to strim. Also has 5 height settings which allowed me to gradually reduce the height of grass on my new lawn without cutting off more than 1/3 off on any cut. Only likely problem is grass box not very robust so hopefully it lasts. Also a little difficult to clean after use as grass gets stuck down side of height adjustment lever.
his mower is easy and light to use.just one thing, its seems the grass collectiion box is very “flimsy” and won’t take a lot of handling..
Wasn’t clear how to put grass box together. I was scared of breaking the red clips, not being sure if they lifted. Otherwise excellent.
A lovely lightweight mower. I had to get my son to assemble it. He’s an engineer and I can’t be bothered with instructions. My lawn is about the size of two thirds of a tennis court. I had to use an extension lead but knew this before purchase. The lawn is bumpy and the grass grows at different rates so I adjusted the height several times. A bit stiff but doable. Overall I’m pleased so far with my purchase.
Have been using this for a couple of months now and am very happy with it. Assembly took a while, make sure you get the handle on the right way although it will work if they point down and it could even be an option for shorter gardeners. In use it is very good. It fires up very quickly and cut nicely. Grass box is a decent size. The handles are well designed with plenty of places to grip where you feel most comfortable. Another good Bosch mower at a reasonable price basically
I had the previous version of the same lawn mover, which stopped working after several years of service. I decided to stick with the same brand & model. This new version is more compact and takes less space to store. One concern/grief I have is the plastic cover and grass box collection appears very weak, and feels cheap. The height adjusting lever is quite lower and not easy to manipulate while you are cutting the grass. It is likely to break easily. Definitely not worth of 100+. I am not confident this will last same long as my old one, but fingers crossed it will!
Bought one that had recently been sold and was repacked. Like new when I got it and saved a few bob along the way.
Great mower, cuts well & easy to manoeuvre. Had to buy a extension lead as it couldn’t quite reach the bottom of the garden about 40ft. Had to keep checking if the collection box was full but now I have an idea how much it holds it won’t be a problem.
A massive improvement on my old Qualcast mower. It actually sucks up clippings and scattered leaves like a good un. The roller leaves a nice stripe on the lawn and cutting is so effortless and “complete” that I don’t have to move it back and forth to get a clean cut; simply move forward in one smooth motion and the job is done. Admittedly my old Qualcast was, well, old but I’m so impressed by how much better this mower is. The compact storage is also a big plus.
The purchase of the mower is well worth the price. One of the key features of the product is that it allows you 5 settings from which you can cut your lawn. Very pleased with the product.
Once assembled this mower is a delight to use, very pleased with how it has cut my lawn.
The handle is very difficult to attach, definitely need two pairs of hands. Bit disappointed with quality of grass box but does it’s job. This mower was a replacement for first one I ordered. First one had a front wheel not attached. Customer service very helpful and sent me a replacement one next day and organised for faulty one to be picked up.
Very easy to put together and very easy to use. The only downside is the grass box seems a bit flimsy, but time will tell.
Excellent lawn mower definitely better than my old Flymo
The assembly instructions could have been better, especially with regard to folding the arm when not in use. But the product itself is good
I’m new to gardening and needed a lightweight, quality mower which cut to different lengths and made the job easier. This is a great item and makes cutting the grass less of a chore. It’s easy to maneuver, cuts brilliantly with an even cut and all the cuttings are collected. There is minimal cleaning as I just brush any loose cuttings away. I’m very pleased.
Firstly this is a very good lawn mower. Far better than my previous Flymo. This does not scalp the lawn and it cuts very well (I suppose with a new blade it should). I like the height adjuster handle, which is far easier to use than my previous one. It’s powerful and also reasonably quiet. Now the downsides. Its not easy to assemble. The grass box is poorly constructed, being flimsy and doest fit together well. When you empty the grass box lots of grass just falls out. No storage for the cord (it looks great being held in place with garden wire) the cord is a bit too short and finally it’s heavy. I know it’s advertised at 11 kg but lightweight it isn’t. Overall the negatives outweigh the positives as it does do its only job of cutting the grass very well (although it doesn’t stripe my lawn like it’s supposed to with the roller at the back)
Take it from me, I was worried to buy this lawnmower from reading some of the negative reviews. They are non sense, and it’s a treat to use. Picks up all th grass, cuts close to the edge and the grass container is double size potentially from our last cheapo. No I don’t have shares in Bosch, live in Hampshire and highly reccomend. For the price what do you expect……
Bosch Rotak mowers are the best by far. Give great cutting results and nice lawn stripes if you require.
Good cutting heights. Easy to assemble & store.
Do not cut extremely long grass as this could burn motor out in the the long term.
Mow your lawn weekly in the growing season.
We had Bosch for about 14 years and engine still work well, need to fix the switch hanger, but I cannot do it myself. So decided to buy another Bosch.
Just got this deliverd easy to build up. Took it for its test run Brilliant.. Great cut no matter what length the grass is. Easy to move around quiet and sturdy.
I initially hated this mower because it came in many strange pieces with no accompanying list of items or assembly instructions to help me decide which bit of red plastic went where, and which screw I required. My husband even searched for the instructions, not believing that I had looked ‘properly’. I ended up finding a Youtube video made by people who just enjoy putting stuff together…not Bosch I might add – just very helpful random people.
Anyway, after the initial frustrated swearing before and during assembly, it actually mows really well, so I don’t hate it anymore.
I am not sure what the people who find this difficult to assemble are doing. I did this by myself in around 30 minutes.
I agree the instructions are not the best but you can also look at the picture on the box it came in for hints…
The grass container is more than rugged enough to hold grass. It is not flimsy but it is lightweight – which is good as I don’t want a heavy mower!!
Works very well at cutting the grass cleanly and putting it in the collector. I switched to this from a cheap flymo and the grass looks so much better after just one cut!
This was a replacement like ‘for like’! the older model was excellent and hopefully the newer model will be as good if not better. looking good so far.
Got this on warehouse, box had a hole in it which saved 20! Dont understand negative comments re made in china etc? This is as good as any bosch ive owned. My garden is an uneven meadow with lots of blade breaking items. This amazing bit of kit breezed through it. Great quality cut and perfect handling. Really feels like it was made with quality. More than enough power, and the grassbox isnt at all weak? I think some people want a box made of strengthened titanium?? Buy it – u wont be sorry.
My previous one I had, same make, lasted a couple of years and this was to replace it as I was so impressed with the first one I bought. Very easy to use.
I bought this for my dad. He doesn’t mow his lawn all that often but this lawnmower does a great job on the long grass whereas his old one really struggled. The lawn looks great when mowed. I would say it’s slightly on the heavy side to use but it does such a great job I can forgive this. It’s a robust machine and as you would expect from Bosch it’s great quality. I would recommend this lawnmower.
I’ve only ever had fly mowers in the past but with the Bocsh Rotak it is a lot better to handle and due to the wheels it puts beautiful stripes in the lawn like it’s been done by a professional
What can I say about this? It knows grass really well, really simple to adjust. And collects grass as expected.
It basically does what it’s supposed to do and does it well.
Iwas very furious with Bosch not being able to register on there website, it totally rejected my input of password.
I contacted them, and they were not interested. They need a big kick up the arse.
Old version finally died – so this one seemed the best replacement at similar specs. The Lawnmower was needed quickly and DIY stores struggled during lockdown – and I mean post lockdown stock accuracy, not the fact that they were shut. Arrived promptly and was straightforward to put together. Have done half a dozen cuts and its working fine – what more can I say!
Our lawnmower packed up and we ordered a new one but had to send it back so went for this one instead as a neghbour has one. Eady to use and works well. Other reviews say the grassbox is flimsy and it is, but strong enough when in place. It doesn’t now the edges as well as it suggests and sometimes just flattens grass so it springs up again but in general a decent mower that copes well with our bumpy lawn (said neighbour has the most perfect lawn you have ever seen – ours will never be like that).
So much easier than my petrol mower which rarely starts until I’ve put in fresh petrol. You can buy replacement blades easily or sharpen them with a grinder: makes a big difference. Only minor niggle: the blade doesn’t propel all the grass into the box so take a look as you’re using it (not with it on). Easy to use and cuts up to the edge.
Bosch should put two clips on the handle to wind up and store the cable. Easy to do.
This is a good lawnmower unfortunately my garden is too big this is suitable for medium size. Seller refunded without problems easy to contact item returned unopened would use GM suppliers again.
Arrived very quickly and well packaged. Took about 20-30 minutes assemble – easy peasy. Immediately cut my front and back lawns, my previous Bosch lawnmower broke 🙁 Therefore wanted similar, this is slightly larger than previous, but seems quieter. Holds loads of grass cuttings, and very pleased with the results. Not cheap, but then anything decent never is. Bish bash bosch, easy peasy lemon squeezy!!
This is a decent mower that does the job well, and seems like it will last a good amount of time.
Assembly is easy and it is lightweight. It takes up little room in the shed, although I’ve not needed to fold it down as I have plenty of room. If I needed to however, it’s two screws which can be undone by hand to food the handle over the mower.
The grass box is fine and doesn’t feel overly flimsy, which was my worry on reading all the below reviews. It has a good capacity and, even though I’ve kicked it a few times, it has never gave me the impression that its going to drop off.
The grass combs seem to work well and let me get close to the edges. Every now and then, I do need to use the shears though.
The wire is only 10m long. That’s pretty short. Luckily I’ve got and installed another outdoor socket but if you have anything over a tiny garden or no outdoor socket, expect to need an extension cable.
Overall, a great entry level mower for small to medium gardens.
Took 5 mins to attach 2 rear wheels (just push on) and the handle (which is in 2 pieces and easy. No tools required.
The grass box is a tad flimsy but I’m not expecting it to haul wood across a mountain, holding some grass for a short while is not a problem. I’ve used Flymo’s for years so will give this a test for the summer.
It does have a shorter lead than my other mowers but that’s why we invented extension cables.
The negatives are few…..this has been a really reliable purchase for over a year now. It does what you want it to do and hasn’t cost the earth to purchase. The only downside is the main arm needed to be taped out of the box….I could have just sent it back but thought it not worth the hassles of return, especially because Hermes are a waste of time on delivering
I am a Bosch fan, from washers, dryers, kettles and my Tassimo…. quality lasts.
I bought this after my flymo went up in smoke. I like the lowest setting which cuts low but doesn’t scalp my lawn. It leaves nice stripes if you walk up and down in different directions. It holds a lot of grass compared to my old flymo, and I’ve never had it clog up either. It’s fairly light and easy to use. The handle to start it does feel a bit flimsy and I am wandering if it will brake easy. I hope no
This was a replacement of an old one that needs the blades changed but we’ve watched YouTube tutorials and still cant figure it out. I liked my first one so much I ordered another one but dreading needing to change the blades if the same thing happens again I would probably look for a different one a shame really as I love this mower. It hives a great short cut.
Ordered this on the Saturday afternoon and was delivered first thing Monday morning!!!! It really is extremely easy to use. Although our grass was quite long and fairly wet this little mower made very light work of it. Cannot tell you how impressed I am. Unfortunately been raining ever since, so haven’t had a chance to use it again, but feel i won’t ever dread cutting the grass again!!
Great little bit of kit, have used it throughout spring and summer with no problems, it replaced my petrol lawn mowers, it is lightweight and easy to operate, great cutting ability and sufficiently powerful for my lawns, once you have got use to making sure the mains supply cable is not going to tangle with the rotor blades, it is trouble free!
Very impressive given the price, the next one I purchase will be the bigger sized model!
I purchased this mower to replace my Ergoflex model which had broken. It has obviously been built more cheaply floppy grass box, screw rather than lever handle folding mechanism and height adjustment by moving front and back wheels up and down rather than a lever as before. To be fair it did cost less than my old one. Assembly is still as difficult. As a warning to others my old mower failed due to clogging of tube leading from blade to grassbox which stalls blade. Belt then slips on motor pulley, this is the different motor noise mentioned by others. I thought belt had broken but belt tensioner had fallen to pieces. One of these is only about 6 but then noticed motor pulley had worn due to slipping belt. This needs a complete motor 95 i.e. more than a new mower so no contest. Moral regularly empty grass box. This is not a fault with the mower as the same thing happens with the big ride on mowers with grass collection hoppers.
This mower was easier to assemble than I had led to believe from some of the reviews, I had no trouble at all. It works well and is fairly light. I wish it had a longer cable because I have to place my extension lead on my (smallish) lawn because it won’t reach to the far corner. The grass catcher holds a surprisingly large amount, and while the controls are a little flimsier than ideal I realise this helps to keep the weight down.
Good value for money
I purchased the same model Bosh mower about ten years or so ago, will this one last as long, I don’t think so more like five years, the quality of the grass box is not great, I don’t think the cable is as long but it cuts well and is easy to handle, only time will tell.
This is a good lawnmower. However it is not that light to carry. Also a major thing is that it doesn’t have cable storage facility and I had to take the clips from my old Bosch lawnmower which, thankfully, fitted. Surely for the cost of that it should have been provided.
We have had a Bosch Rotak 32 from around 2007 & apart from new blades it has never needed any attention. After seeing the Rotak 34R on a Prime day deal I decided to order it at the bargain price it was.
Weight is something I noticed just picking the mower out of the box. It’s a lot heavier than our old one & very much to the front end. Assembly was simple with no real need to read the instructions but when it came to the grass collector the cheap mouldings & poor quality became apparent. The plastic flexes & doesn’t join together well at all & looks as if it will break after repeated use.
The quality of the cut is far better than our old one & it picks up the grass better. We did notice that the lowest cut was lower than the old mower but the roller makes it very hard to push. Also as it holds more grass meaning it will be heavier as it gets full.
We wont be getting rid of our old one whilst we continue to try this mower just in case we find that we can’t get on with this new one.
This lawn mower is for me as I can’t handle my husband’s petrol driven one. I find it easy to,use and gives a good finish to the lawn. I just have to remember to move the cable as I move around which takes some getting used to. Would get a wider mower if buying again as this is quite narrow.
I have been so pleased with my Bosch Rotak 34 lawn mower that I bought more years ago than I care to remember that I replaced it with the same model when it finally gave up the ghost. Suffice to say I am more than pleased with the quality and ease of handling of the new one. Wouldn’t buy anything else. Now all my garden tools are Bosch.
Only arrived the other day but like all men I had to try it straight away. Does a far better cut than my old Flymo hoover glider thing which was rubbish. Seems like a very good machine on first impression but after reading some reviews time will only tell how long it lasts. The cutting box does seem a little on the flimsy side but I get that is because it’s been designed to be folded down to as small as possible.
Firstly, this took no more than 5 mins to assemble. It’s a literal piece of cake. Ignore reviews about the grass box – it’s simply 2 clips, one either side. It couldn’t have been easier. Maybe the design has been revised??
Instructions are pictorial only. But with a bit of concentration you can understand them. However, if you’re even remotely handy, you won’t need them.
Grass cut is nice, rollers do produce a slight stripe in lawn. Mower is easy to move, not very heavy, and simple to change cut length.
For 75 on a deal, it’s a bargain.
Sold my old qualcast for 15 meaning it was only a 60 upgrade, and that includes a 3yr warranty (once registered) – so at 20 a year I don’t think you could ask for more!
Yes, it’s a bit “plastic” but that’s to be expected these days – and it helps to keep it light.
I purchased this to replace a 16 year old Flymo hover lawnmower. That was good and reliable but had some electrical issues after prolonged use.
I grew my grass tall and then decided to trim it down. The job was done in 10 minutes, which took about 30 minutes with the Flymo (Flymo had a small bin).
Pros:
Large Bin
Wide radius blade
Light weight so do not feel tired
Cons:
Bin drops some cut grass out of it, designed in a weird way. You have to go over it once again to pick up the grass, which doesn’t take long, but is still waste of time and energy
Putting the lawnmower away, in a compact manner is like a puzzle
This machine works well. It replaced my previous Bosch which died of old age after many years of service. I expect this one to be just as reliable and effective. It is a bit heavier than my previous Bosch so does require a bit more effort to push it That’s not a fault and is ok for me but smaller persons may prefer the next size down which should be lighter.
I had a miserable time putting it together, and the stupid red screwy-handle-knob-type things on each side were particularly troublesome and poorly designed (they’ve since fallen off). But despite a lot of sweating and swearing and grunting, and an overwhelming urge to take a machete to whoever designed the appalling assembly instructions, I have since found it to be a delightfully easy mower to use.
It is, however, somewhat taxing on my back having to mow one-handed up my very large lawn on return stripes due to the power trigger being only on one side of the handle. Apart from that, I’m very happy with it – particularly the easy and effortless height-adjuster. 4/5.
Arrived in a box with easy to follow assembly instructions ,didn’t need any extra tools to attach wheels pushing handle and grass box (box seems a little flimsy until attached to mower) .took 15 mins to assemble . The handle is easily collapsed for easy storage. The cutting height is easily changed by pulling out and clicking back in the red handle at the side . The grass box is easily detached by lifting a flap and a lil wiggle to unhook each side and reverse that to put on ,easy to empty and holds a HUGE amount . My grass was longer than most mowers would cope with this one powered through ,easy and light to push even on uneven parts of lawn and didn’t need to stop and empty the grass box every 2 seconds .Good finish by going back over on a shorter cutting level and stripey lawn! Best mower I’ve used hoping it lasts .
I never knew that it was possible to feel such affection for a lawnmower. I spent two years dreading mowing the lawn, struggling to drag an ancient flymo over the lumpy terrain of my rental flat’s back garden. This lawnmower was a game-changer! It’s light enough to pick up one-handed without a struggle, it mows like a dream, it packs down nicely for storage and it’s massively reduced my gardening frustration.
I will say that the grass collection box feels a little bit on the flimsy side, and the blade does jam a bit if (like me) you have left your grass to get too long and go at it too fast. But these are minor concerns in the face of an otherwise excellent lawnmower.
I bought my first lawn mower a few years back which was a flymow, was never overly happy with it, thought it was heavy, dragged up the soil and grass. I decided to give this wheeled Bosch mower a try! Will never look back, cuts easily, doesn’t drag up freshly seeded grass, easy to change depth settings, higher clippings capacity, literally cuts to the edge of a lawn and just overall in a better class. Buying this mower has cut the time it takes to mow my lawn by a two thirds.
Only moan is I wish I’d got it sooner.
My friend a youg lady came to help me. She has a petrol mower. Swears by it. Put it this mower together we could not believeit.very long grass job done in know time, actually 1 hour. We was very impressed. Would recommend. Go on buy it .Why.YOU DONT NEED A STIMMER IF BLADE GOES OVER ANYTHING DID NOT BREAK. A BEST BUY. DONT KNOW WHAT ANY ONES MOANING. DOES MORE THAN IT SAYS ON THE TIN. AND MAN MY GRASS WAS VERY LONG. AREALLY IMPRESSIVE GADGET LAWN LOOKS BEAUTIFUL JUST NEEDS FEEDING AND WEED REMOVAL now. THANKS AMAZON
I bought this to replace my Flymo Chevron over a year ago, when the motor blew and there is not much to choose between them. However, small differences matter and although the Flymo is a fiver cheaper, the Bosch just ‘edges it’ for me. It cuts closer to the edge of the lawn, seems just a little better built and I prefer the simplicity of the ‘single lever’ height adjusting mechanism.
Pros: Cuts the grass nicely, (compared to the 8 year old mower my grandma gave me), and is fairly quiet in operation. Collapses in to a compact space so it can be stored in the shed without much room. Nice big grass bucket. Height adjustment is easy.
Cons: Is not very robust. I have a small garden, quite flat and square, yet the mower started losing bits over time. The red plastic side handles both got chewed up as they fell under the mower. And there is an awkward ledge that grass collects on, so when you remove the bucket to empty the grass clippings the grass falls in to the ground. Just an irritating niggle.
Good value for money, although I’m not sure if I would buy again.
Purchased this on strength of reviews after my brilliant JCB mower finally gave up the ghost and I was unable to replace with another.
The grass box as said by others is not well made and did not fit together well but time will tell how it lasts and it does have an extended 3 year warranty.
It cuts well and even wet grass seems to be no problem which is just as well as mine is nearly always wet.
The handle control can only be held with the right hand which is a bit of a pain as my last one was ambidextrous and useful for freeing hands to guide and hold the cable with either hand as I like to do.
I had thought I was buying a German made machine but found it was made in China like everything nowadays and if I had known that I probably would have tried elsewhere to get something made nearer home.
It is supposed to fold up for storage but seems a bit of a performance so I just leave it in the porch.
Carrying handle is handy and a nice touch.
Only had it a few months and so far seems to be doing a good job.
I hate mowing the lawn and at this time of this time of year I am usually more miserable because it needs to be done twice a week – ugh! Our lawns are uneven, peppered with manhole covers and stepping stones and the front lawn in particular is like the north face of the Eiger. The old mower is the only one I have ever owned and was of the hovering variety and mowing both front and back lawns used to take the best part of an hour, I would be dripping with sweat after the ordeal and the noise would induce a slight ringing in my ears for hours afterwards. The cut was always uneven and there was always loads of grass blown onto the path and patio and loads left on the lawn which would be constantly be tracked into the house for days afterwards!!! This Bosch mower was like a breath of fresh air! It took ten minutes to assemble although this would have definitely been easier with two people. In use it is definitely quieter than the one it replaces, it makes light work of both lawns and I literally need to walk it up and down the lawn, it is super easy to push and manoeuvre rather than the inane short backwards and forwards motion over the same section of lawn necessary with the old one, it leaves hardly any clippings behind either on the lawn or blown onto the paths even when the grass is damp and clumpy, the cut is always even and the stripes are wonderful! The best bit of all is both lawns now take less than 20 minutes and I don’t break a sweat. I no longer mind or dread mowing the lawn these days – could not be happier!!!!
I have not used the mower as yet but have assembled it. Other than the lack of a screw to fix the attached cable holder to the handle, it was relatively easy to put together. (a cable clip was provided which is shown on the instructions but this was not required because of the attached cable holder).
First impressions were that the mower is more solid than some reviewers have suggested, apart from the collection box which seems quite fragile though once in place, seems fine. The mower is heavier than expected but using the carrying handle and with the grass box removed, it makes for a balanced lift and not at all awkward.
Getting the quick release handles to operate to allow the double folding handles to fold as shown in the attached Bosch photograph proved not so simple. I decided to give Bosch a quick call as nowhere on the internet could I find simple instructions. Their assistance was clear and now I know how to do this. It is hardly a quick operation but it is effective once you know how and converts the long assembled lawnmower into a small bundle..
I was also advised to register with Bosch to receive a 3 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY. When I registering the mower via MY BOSCH I noted it states that you cannot get this warranty after 14 days from the Date of Purchase (not the date of delivery). Extended warranty is FREE.
There was nothing in the packaging or advice from Amazon to suggest this extra warranty is available. This extended warranty can be applied to most Bosch power tools.
UPDATE AFTER USING FOR FIRST TIME
This mower is beyond my expectations. It tackled dense mossy thatch, uneven areas and long thick grass on a slope with ease. It leaves a smooth finish and cuts right up to the edges just as it says on the box. I wish I had given up my Flymo hover mower years ago. This Rotak 36R is effortless in comparison. Once I have scarified and fed my lawns it will be a delight to keep then neat and tidy with relative ease.
Excellent value for money. The item was sent very quickly. Was easy to assemble and I am very pleased with it. It cuts much better than the flymo I had before, I particularly like the way you can alter the cutting length. I have had back problems before and this is much easier to push across the grass than my previous mower. As has been previously stated it cuts into the edge much more effectively. The grass box does look flimsy but it’s fine and it’s size is a bonus; I only have to empty it at the end. For the size of garden we have it is more than adequate; small to medium. For less than a hundred quid this is good value.
I was very plesed with the performance of this electric lawnmower. I have always been a bit cagey of corded lawnmowers as my previous experience has been that they bare underpowered and struggle to cope with longer grass or wet conditions. For this reason I have preferred a 3.5 HP petrol engine which has alway had enough power. However my Briggs and Stratton has been slowly dying on me and the cost of servicing exceeds the cost of a new mower, so on the recommendation of my builder (!!) I got this and have been very pleased with its performance.
Only 4 star though, due to the tacky plastic grass collector. It hasn’t broken yet, but it will. It is flimsy, poorly put together and is an obvious weak point .
i just used this on my garden after receiving it the other day.
pros: cut my very overgrown grass very efficiently on highest setting despite the grass still being quite wet after a week of terrestrial downpour.
nice large grass box that opens up for easier cleaning. only had to empty it twice and I have quite a large garden.
was easy enough to push through overgrown damp grass, didn’t feel like I had to go backwards and forwards over he same spot of struggle trough any patches.
nice long cable ideal for smaller gardens without the need for an extension cord.
lots of different height settings (I think there are 5).
cons: the red screws that you have to use to position the handlebar every time you use it were VERY difficult to screw on due to hole size and positioning. I struggled a lot doing that and I’m not looking forward to having to deal with that every time I want to screw the handlebar into position for mowing.
the grass box was a little tricky to put together as one side wouldn’t clip into place.
these cons are worth dealing with for the efficiency of the cutting experience and I will be using this from now on as opposed to my qualcast.
I bought this to replace a “Flymo Mow ‘n’ Vac” which was totally useless. The Bosch arrived yesterday and I have used it only once, so this is initial impressions only. Compared with the Flymo, the Bosch is:
– About 20 more expensive
– Longer and heavier, so requires a bigger storage space
– Slightly more faff to assemble on delivery
– Appears slightly more ticky-tacky, thinner plastic and so on.
On the other hand, the Bosch:
– Came highly recommended by my friend, who has had one trouble-free for about 5 years
– Cuts my very small lawn in around 10 easy minutes, compared with 20 minutes of struggle with the Flymo
– Cuts right to the edges, up to walls and upstanding boards, so no going round afterwards with the shears
– Cuts neatly over the edges of inset paths without scalping the grassy high points (the mower supports itself on the roller)
– Needs the grassbox emptying only once, compared with three or four times for the Flymo even on a tiny lawn
– Leaves the lawn almost totally clear of clippings, whereas the Flymo left a liberal coating of cut grass on the ground
– Does not blow clippings or dead leaves all over the place as the Flymo did
– Has a proper metal blade which does not break or fly off as the Flymo plastic blades did every time I used it
– Cuts the rough grass in the back lane outside my garage very easily
– Deals with clumps of longer grass without nearly stalling, which the Flymo was prone to do
– Supports its own weight, which the Flymo did not do, even on a perfectly level surface (unless you left the grassbox off)
– Has five easily adjusted, very distinct cutting heights. The Flymo has two, which requires disassembly of the cutting rotor to change
– Can leave stripes, if you are interested in such things (I am not).
Used twice thus far. Hubby found instructions on putting together unclear and had to look at the picture on the box. Nice light mower. Picks up well but dust blows out of box. Used to use a heavier and wider electric mower which I’ve had for 15 years. Don’t think this one will last as long. If you have a large garden this one will make you walk up and down more (good exercise) without the weight on the turns. If you have to lift into a shed this is also beneficial.
Love this lawnmower, and I have had a few, with the exception of the point raised in other reviews that the grass box is a little flimsy and occasional fiddly to fit (and by occasionally I mean those times when you have just removed to empty and want to quickly fit and carry on mowing.
The range of grass heights cut is excellent and it certainly deal with thick/long grass easily. Edge cutting is brilliant and the whole mower folds nicely into a compact storage size.
Good mower cut, have had Flymo brand for many years, so was surprised how well this ‘wheeled’ mower cuts neatly, and close to grass edges, up to walls etc. but as others have commented, WHY NO cable store point, yes I know you can buy extra fitment that attaches. A let down for such a well known Bosch brand. The grass box is a little flimsy but has good capacity. Certainly leaves lawn cleaner and tidier, and few grass cutting bits left around as have had in the past with the Flymo, Its easy enough to push, don’t try to rush it, I take a gentle ‘stroll’ push with the mower and as stated it cuts well, leaving lines where mower has been. Like the external handle for blade adjustment., I am very pleased with its performance thus far, BUT knock a star off due to that lack of cable storage, damned annoying when you wrap up the cable tuck it in the motor handle, lift up the mower and the cable just falls away. I consider this a design fault and something if Flymo can provide on mowers, strimmers (moulded and built in to the casing) why cannot Bosch, or is it just another way to add an extra 10 plus for screw on plastic hooks which Bosch make.
I love this lawn mower! Although it probably took me a bit longer to put together than it should have (old female living on her own ha ha) Believe it or not i found the grass box the hardest part! I just couldn’t get it together but eventually i did. I find it easier to use than my old one and the larger grass box makes a difference, not having to empty it as often. What really makes it easier for me I guess is having the lever on the side to adjust the cutting height. I find that a big plus.
I just wanted to highlight one drawback….for other rotak models in the range, Bosch sell a multi-mulch attachment, but not for the 34R. This replaces the grassbox, and directs/disperses the clippings over the lawn (so no need to empty the grassbox). I didn’t realise this at the time of purchase. If this appeals to you, get the rotak 36 for a little more (not the 34R). No idea why Bosch don’t sell a multi-mulch for this model.

Otherwise very happy with the performance, as per other reviewers comments.
Used for one season on two modest sized lawns. I use with an extension cable because the lead is not as long as my old mower, but the advantage is that I can route the cable for maximum safety and convenience.
The important thing is that my experience with this mower has been positive. After long periods of wet, the grass has been longer than I would normally leave it, and this relatively lightweight machine has coped well. It also gives a reasonable finish.
I like the way it packs down when not in use. I note the points people have made about fittings and the ‘flimsy’ grass box. All I can say is that it works well for me. You just need to respect the fact that it is not a heavy duty Tonka toy.
…It was an accident I ran over the metal spike that normally holds up the rotary washing line with my trusty Flymo Hover bringing it to a sudden end. So I bought one of these. My ‘lawn’ is a very uneven collection of green growth mainly grass but a huge amount of weeds, dandelions etc etc being about 45ft X 12 ft ( London average type ). To my surprise the Bosch has handled this very uneven ground very well and producing a more than adequate cut. I found it hard to direct at first but have found just going in nice straight lines does the job. I never used the grass box on the Flymo hover and so had to rake the grass after cutting but with this I do use the box and find the whole job much easier and quicker ( I guess emptying it 4 times on a lawn with very tall growth ). Being just over 60 it is MUCH EASIER ON MY BACK THAN THE HOVER WAS. It feels a slightly cheap build and the folding handle, although a good idea, lacks rigidity and strength. The grass box is about as cheap as you can make BUT does the job. I guess I will use the mower 6-8 times this year as I am not a keen gardener by any means, because of its light use I DO expect the Bosch to last for many years.
