Camplux AY132 Tankless Propane Gas Water Heater White 5L [Energy Class A]

Having a private back yard, I’m able to shower outdoors every day, rain or shine. It’s the perfect way to finish off a hot-tub soak and get ready for the long day ahead. I’ve used the Camplux every day for six months and still have not had to replace the 20lb tank of propane. This means I’m showering on no more than $40 of fuel annually. The unit comes up to temp in about ten seconds and delivers a continuous piping-hot stream. The on/off switch built in to the showerhead is very convenient. The only issue I’ve had thus far is that the unit sometimes flames out in strong wind. But no big deal — simply turn the water off and back on again — and it relights right away. The unit was very easy to set up. I consider it the ultimate in luxury to shower outdoors. And to do it on so little water and so little fuel makes it that much better.

I bought this for my outside shower area and it is amazing. Had some questions for the company and they got back to me very quickly and resolved my issues. All in all I would recommend this little in size water heater to everyone. It works as well as a whole house water heater.

I use this water heater in my food trailer I built and it works perfectly. Hangs nicely on the wall up out of the way also (hardly notice it) water is hot and pressure is good. I have a 3 sink and a hand sink hooked up to it with no problems. Would buy agai

Further to my earlier 5 Star rating….I’ve had the unit for just under two years and in that time I’ve had 2 issues that I raised with the seller. Their response has been absolutely fantastic and way beyond what one would expect given the passing of time. Each of my issues has been fully resolved with no hint of reluctance or blame shifting by them and just a genuine desire to sort the problems. I would absolutely endorse the 5 stars all over again and if there were more stars they would get them.

Have only just got around to fixing up the shower after leaving it in the garage for months following a house move.
Took me about a half hour to sort out the pipework, connect the gas and then run wonderful warm water. The only issue I had was worrying about over tightening the gas connection (mentioned in the instructions) but after enduring 2 leaks I took matters into my own hand and tightened it right down. (so that the inner pipe in the connecting bolt was unable to move). Absolutely brilliant bit of kit and hopefully my grubby Labradors will be less likely to bolt than when the hosepipe was brought out to wash them down. If I was still into camping I would definitely have taken this with me as the waterflow and temperature are so easily controllable.

We use this for a camp that has no electric. Works great in the shower stall. We did get an extra long hose for the propane tank so it’s not right next to you in the shower. We also did purchase a water filter since the water was coming directly from a spring. This works great because you could move it anywhere. Wish I would have purchased this a long time ago. We could have used it to wash the dog in the garage instead of using cold well water from the hose.
Just attach the hose and the hose from the propane tank and there ya go. Takes a little time to get the temperature just right. It can actually get too hot! Works perfect though

Super easy to install. We’ve taken about 30 showers thus far. The entire family is pleased with the water pressure and temperature. We built an outside shower to help get us through a major remodeling project. No one has used the inside shower for ten days. We love it.

Some issues with brackets for wall installation. Great help from customer service.

Good product, need more accessories. Please let me know if there is 3 way splitter from propane tank.

This heats the water fast and is works great! We got to replace an electric water heater for filling up our inflatable hot tub when we take it camping. The electric heater took a long time to heat the water and only heated it a little. We would have to wait a day and a half to use the hot tub. With this propane heater it’s hot right away and we only have to wait a few hours to use the tub!

I had my doubts that a water heater could do a good job for this low price but it does and it does wonderfully. Just turn the shower head on and you almost instantly (a few seconds) have hot water for which you can adjust the pressure and temperature to your liking.

Extremely easy to use. Instant heat and the water pressure is perfect. We use it to hide off after the beach and it’s just perfect. Great value for the price. I read other reviews of the shower head and I’m glad to report it works great. The on/off switch works great!

I rarely write reviews but I use them often so . This product is wonderful. Note the date of reviews you are reading. I was reluctant to purchase after reading reviews that stated you needed adapters and other supplies to hook this unit up in the U.S. I was looking at older reviews. The company did a great job fixing earlier issues. The unit now comes with everything you need to hook up and operate the unit in the U.S. and they added a switch on the shower handle ( note there is no pilot light to start the unit. Switching the water on, using the switch on the showerhead is all you need to do, once you turn on the gas and water since the drop in pressure as the water flows through the unit activates the piezoelectric ignition. You will hear the click of ignition and then the flame ignite). Our home water heater broke and we were without hot water for days and got fed up with going to the gym/friends’ houses to shower. I read a million reviews, watched youtube videos and decided to give this unit a try ( looking at another week for the new house water heater to arrive and be installed). Works as advertised. Note: the installation instructions that came with the unit were for another more complicated model or perhaps the European version. All you do is 1. wrap all the connectors in the Teflon tape that it comes with. Don’t forget all the washers. 2.hook up the gas hose to your propane tank, 3.Hook up the shower head hose 4. Hook up the water to a garden hose. 5. put in 2 D batteries and you have a hot (extremely hot, be careful) shower. You regulate the temperature by adjusting the gas and the flow of water. I read in another review or the company web site that 20lbs of gas ( typical BBQ propane tank) with provide 12hrs of hot water on MAX. Minimum gas flow provides hot enough water to shower water unless you like your shower really warm. If you turn it above the mid-point on the gas flow knob it gets hot enough to scald.

Works great! Set up an outdoor shower for us and guests on our property and this tankless water heater is perfect. I would recommend placing it safely under an overhang though. After a rainy day water had collected around the ignitor on ours and the next day, which was sunny, I went to get a shower and had issues. Ignitor clicked, nothing happened and then a small gas ball ignited. It was a bit alarming. Also, the battery compartment filled with water. Not good. I opened the cover and blew all the water out, replaced the batteries, then made a little metal roof framed in cedar about 9″ above the top. Exhaust heat is not hitting the cedar and the overhang metal gets pretty hot but…so far so good.

I purchased this to use in an outdoor shower at our cabin. It was easy to setup and works great! The only picture I took was from before I had everything hooked up but you can see from the picture that the unit doesn’t take up a lot of space.

Amazing, what a great bit of kit, I installed this with ease near my hot tub to wash before and after entering the tub. Love it heats up so quick with great flow rate, Highly recommend

Easy to use. At first I was about to burn myself, but then realized I had the water on the minimum setting, once adjusted correctly it was really one of the best purchases I think I have ever made. Keep in mind, I have only used it 3 times, so durability and how long it lasts is still to be seen. Anything happens, I will be quick to update this review. I rarely give 5 star reviews.

This is quite easy to write! Simply great! So easy to set up and much better than the Eccotemp which I have previously owned.

Excellent service from camplux. Sets up very quickly. I had an issue as the shower was too hot. My water pressure was so low as to be able to get a decent mix. Camplux helped me out and i purchased a camplux 12v water pump. Now this is better than a power shower. Whats good about the heater and the pump is that it comes with all piping, filters, connectors. No messing about and instant controllable hot water.

Works as described. Installation was a snap. I mounted it on the wall beside the pump house and am supplying the water via a hose. Only word of caution is that if you are using a hose, remember this thing simply heats the water with no thermostat so the water that is in the hose, which will be the temp of the outside air, will be a LOT hotter than the water that comes out once the line is flushed and cooler tank water enters the system. Seems like it heats 35 degrees above the water’s temp so if it’s a hot day and the outside temp is 95 then you are going to get roughly 130 degree water coming out if on high. You can easily take care of this by installing a Y at the heater’s input so you can flush the warm water sitting in the hose.

I purchased this machine for two reasons, one I’m contractor and I used it to provide temporary hot water by putting it outside on a 5 gallon propane tank. We install tankless water heaters and combination boilers. We use this machine to bridge the gap from when we pulled out the existing hot water system and were able to install the new boiler. This machine was not actually designed for this performed flawlessly. One of the fittings failed and the company was fantastic with its customer service. I’m very impressed with the machine’s reliability and performance. We install on demand water heaters and so far this machine has been as effective and reliable as the larger much more expensive household units. I intend to use it from now on to provide hot water for my RV. I cannot say enough good things about this companies customers service. I am now recommending this unit to my customers who are looking for a poolside shower and don’t want to spend the money for hard piping.

UPDATE: April 2019, still going strong. I replaced the battery pack with a 3.3V power supply and added a Linemaster air pressure foot switch (item B005GRE0J4) with an Aubig pump (item B076PV2C2X) and a modified LDR shower head (item B000I1EA70) to finally get everything the way I like it. The foot switch cycles both the pump and the power supply, so the water starts and the heater fires up when you step on it. With a better hose and a check valve, and I can fully shower on less than a gallon of water (by cycling the pump only when I need water).

EDIT: Seller credited me $10 to go buy a garden hose adapter, so I changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. It seems you don’t have to complain, just ask them by email to pay for the adapter they describe below.

Turns on and off very quickly when water flow starts and stops, tiny cheap submersible shower pump provides plenty of pressure to fire up the burner, and there’s plenty of heat for that flow rate. The shower head and hose are unbelievably cheap and you’ll want to replace them if you want a shutoff valve on the handle. I use a pull-chain switch to turn my pump on and off rather than shutting off the water.

The connections are all non-standard for North America! Water in, water out, LP gas – all three need washers and will leak incessantly without. You cannot put an elbow on the 1/2″ gas connection because it uses British straight threads instead of the tapered NPT/MIP standard. If you need an elbow like I did you’ll have to install their 3/8″ flare adapter and then try to find a flare/flare elbow (Camco makes one, sold on amazon for ten bucks). The water connections do not taper and are slightly different diameters, so you have to use their adapter and then buy another adapter for the water supply. The water output may work with other shower head hoses, but won’t connect to any fitting you can buy at the big box store. (I’ll edit this review if someone points me to an adapter that fits properly.) Even when I challenged the seller they made it clear their “garden hose adapter” will not fit an American standard garden hose. Here’s their response, which cost a star on my review:

Our garden hose is 1/2 BSP female x 3/4 NPT male and water inlet connector is 1/2 BSP female x 3/4 NPT female.
You would buy a 1/2 BSP female x 3/4 GHT male/female connector for this unit if you don’t use our connector.
If you use our connector you would buy a 3/4 NPT male x 3/4 GHT male/female connector.
NPT and GHT both are Amercian standard. We provide NPT standard for Amercian customer.
