For starters, let me just say that i love mechanical watches. There’s SOMETHING about them that makes me feel good. Some people even say that a mechanical watch is somewhat ‘alive’ with it been a machine on your wrist. I agree!. But this Casio…..wow. Not only has it never let me down, regardless of the conditions, but if anything,id say it’s even got a bit more of a soul. It goes to sleep at night like a human. (to save power). And it updates itself during the day to keep perfect time. Awesome. Totally awesome. I’ve had loads of watches over the years but this one is my all time great.

    Put simply, I love it!!
Again looks good and had great Functionality, easy to figure out. This one was my second G-Shock and it doesn’t disappoint, Solar Powered and very rough, rugged and durable, it makes me just want more G-Shock watches. Smart, Stylish and everybody notices it in a good way, not one bad comment yet when wearing it.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI have owned this watch for 18 months & worn it @ work as a van courier for most of that time. I can honestly say that I have bumped, bashed, scratched & generally mistreated it more than any other watch. If you look at the recent photos I took, you will see that it still looks like new. Yes, I know the decorative screws can be vulnerable, but so far my unit is intact. For the price I paid, 64, it is a fantastic value. As long as you get the real McCoy & not a cheap knock-off, you won’t be disappointed. I will say that the main advantage of this version is the larger buttons, which make it easier to operate. Highly recommended.

    Tough, great value & reliable.

I’ve always gravitated towards the chunky Casio G shock and this one didn’t disappoint, this isnt my first and no doubt won’t be the last one i buy.

What a great watch! It has so many features for the price. It’s tough and seems to be very durable with good build quality. The moonphase and tide graph functionality is also accurate. The display is easy to read, the night light is also easy to see in darkness.

I’ve wanted a G shock for a while now and when it arrived I wasn’t disappointed. Nice comfortable fit and not too overbearing for my small wrist.
I have only had a day or two and all the functions seam to be working fine.

A journey of discovery it has been learning about the G-Shock watches. I have owned a few and always found that they were good but not that good. then I bought the GW-7900-1ER and its at a whole new level compared to the standard G-Shock.

Solar Powered, Atomic Clock Precision, Tide & Moon Graph, World Time, Stop watch, Timer, Alarms, Automatic light with tilt of wrist, Comfortable, Rugged looks, Lightweight and the Glass is incredibly tough.. I have dropped mine on the beach with pebbles sand ive had it bang up against my keys and its as beautiful as it was when I first got it. Set it and forget it. I notice people staring at my watch and when asked I will explain all the features as I have done here. What I love about the watch and it has to do with my child who is affected by the moon is the ability to check when the next full moon is.. make sure when you get the watch for the first time that you select the home city.. i.e London or New York City otherwise the atomic clock wont sync. if you press the START_STOP Button when you are on the main screen it will show you when it was synced. mine says evernight at 02:02am – some people have seen it flashing RC at around this time and saying that it is Recharging.. this is the Receiving indicator.. if you hold down the STOP_START button once you have pressed it once it will manually receive the signal. good watch brilliant watch.. shame it doesn’t have a built in thermometer.. but overall a fantastic watch and I love i

Great looking watch, not noticeably heavy and with the internal wings doesn’t move around too much that it becomes annoying. Easy to set up. I was concerned that the backlight may not have been bright enough having had an illuminator watch prior to this, but this one is just as good. Great features but primary reason for buying the watch was the solar power (no battery changes), water resistant (I generally don’t take my watch off) and the automatic time adjustments. Also the ruggedness of the G-Shock brand so far really pleased!

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersWatch is now nearly 3 years old. Worn daily.
    Pro’s:
    Easy to read
    Solar charging without issue
Waterproof enough to forget, worn in the sea, the bath, showers
    Nigh on indestructible

    Cons:
It’s big, if you haven’t worn G-Shock before then be prepared for a period of adjustment
Never quite sure why Casio feel the need for a visual display of seconds passing (octagonal section), feels like a waste of space on the face

item arrived 14 days before the estimated time of arrival.

Was really impressed by the way it arrived. the watch was wrapped around some foam, so it keeps its shape and doesn’t get damaged. The watch was then inserted into another foam so it will keep upright, the watch face was also wrapped in plastic as to avoid any scratches. This was all protected by a can.

The can was then inserted in a box. apart from the watch, one will receive the warranty card and also a very detailed booklet on how to use the watch.

For those who had a Casio digital watch before, its the same kind of set up, so it will not be difficult to set it up. I had my other Casio for quite some time, and it was very easy to set this up, although this one has more functions than the one I had.

For those who never had a Casio watch before, the booklet is very detailed, so you can set up whatever you want easily.

    Definitely will recommend this watch.

Ace watch. Pick of the range at this price point for me. No time setting/battery issues (for a long time, hopefully). Moon/tide works well out of the box (or tin, I should say). Delivery was prompt, condition excellent. Arrived on M battery level, a couple of hours on a windowsill pushed it back up to H where it’s been ever since. Watch I’d light, strong and have worn it pretty constantly. It is tall, but light. Only wish I had bigger wrists!

Excellent watch. Comfortable, funtional, reliable. It automatically updates nightly even though I live in a mountainous region at the outter edge of the beacon range.

Personally I have a great deal of time (sic) for Casio and have several Edifice watches… I bought this particular model of G Shock because it was solar, auto update and quite plain.

Superb watch and @ 83, a fantastic price, one can easily pay 110 – 135 elsewhere for it.

Works perfectly and easy to use. Gets the correct time every night from Germany and am excited to see if it works as well in the U.S. after changing the home city.
The font size in the instruction booklet is not easy to read – even for young people with good eyesight, There is a manual that can be downloaded to a p.c. and then you can zoom in to make it readable. OK when at home but not when sitting in an airport trying to change the home city to get the local time. Only solution I’ve found so far is to note down which buttons to press on a piece of paper.

Living in Cornwall means that having quick access to a tide chart is very useful – especially when the relies show up and want to head to the beach straight away (there is no beach, the tide is in). The other features of the watch are pretty standard, though I have to say the additional synchronisation with the reference clocks is very welcome. What I also especially like is the separate display of various time zones linked to various cities that means I don’t have to change the main display to see the time in the time zone I’ve travelled to, I just select the correct city reference. So good for me all around.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this after much research after I decided I want an everyday watch rather than having to check my phone. ideally wanted a retro Casio but apparently the metal straps links pick arm hair. initially was looking at one the cheaper basic casios or basic g shocks. searched the entire g shock range. I didn’t like the negative display because it’s just difficult to see the time clearly at a glance. there are many nice looking g shocks than this but the more detailed they are the more unclear it becomes to tell the time. this has a nice large time display which fully illuminates unlike some cheaper casios which have 1 bulb in the corner. in the dark it can automatically illuminate in the dark when you turn your wrist towards you ( a very handy feature but can drain the battery a bit) before wearing I would recommend you sit in in the windowsill for a good few days to allow the solar battery to get to high. I didn’t do this which led the battery to nearly die. now if it dips to medium I just leave it in the window whilst working. yes the screws are fake and do wobble if pushed but havnt fell out and I’ve worn it everyday for over 8 months. it’s quite a big watch, not the diameter of the face but how thick it is, which you do get used to. and sometimes I have to be carefully when picking up my baby not to smack him with it accidentally! overall it’s been a great edc watch, I use the stopwatch facility at work everyday which is very handy

I love the ability to set itself when I’m asleep and charge itself when I’m out and about, it’s the set it and forget it king of watches, the dual time is handy and for the price it being a g shock and the features you can’t go wrong!

Nice watch, comfortable to wear and not excessively large. The solar was a great selling point for me. The atomic multi band is also a brilliant feature. The back light is good, better than the led on my other gshock. The moon phase and tide graphs look good but aren’t any use to me.

Overall it’s a hardy watch which is exactly what I need.
    Well recommended.

When I am not wearing this watch I leave it on a windowsill facing south east. The essence of these watches are that they are SOLAR. So common sense dictates it will need light to work. I have had mine for over 12 months and occasionally it will shut down to standby mode but otherwise it has always been fully functional.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our Users1st impressions. I only received this watch today. Top delivery information from Amazon. Very quick.

OK. this is a large watch but I knew this before purchase. The strap arrangement is much better than I thought, very comfortable to wear on the wrist. I was pondering this watch over the negative display version but having read some reviews I went for this positive display version that is very clear to read in most light levels.

My watch was delivered fully charged, being solar powered it allowed me to familiarise myself with the watch functions right away. It was reading one hour fast but setting the home time zone and a manual time sync it was perfectly aligned to the second with my radio controlled clock. and another radio controlled Casio watch I have.

The tide time can be manually adjusted to a local beach (from the web, local paper etc) easy enough and you can get a view of the tide level at a time you wish at different times during the day.

As stated earlier it is watch is big watch but everything is pretty easy to use and the positive display is clear to read..

Looking at the design in a tad more detail, the strap has extra flippers that keep the watch facing the right way and stop it tumbling around the wrist. These sit behind the watch strap screwed in separate lugs to the watch strap lugs A clever solution to having to regularly re position the watch.. The screws in the bezel keep the top of the watch from getting marked if placed face down and the lumpy design looks like inadvertent back light activation would be reduced under clothing. Top design Casio.

I must state however that the back of my watch states that it was made in Thailand and not China as per the pictures. I’m sure Casio will have the appropriate quality controls in place regardless of country of manufacture.as most global companies do.

I will update this review with new information if there is a change in my rating or additional feedback. So far I’m very happy.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Users+Radio-link to Atomic clock.
    +Digital.
    +Dual power, Solar and Battery.
    +Countdown-timer.
    +Stopwatch.
    +Alarm.
+Hourly Chime should you want it.
+Electroluminescent light with Auto-Light feature( activates light when you bring the watch up to read).
    +Mute feature.

    – Countdown doesn’t have an auto-repeat and a minute is the smallest unit you can set (15 Casio from the 90’s had auto-repeat and you could set it by the second).
    – The display layout. The moon-phase indicator on the left is tiny, but the silver octagon-circle on the right that indicates second-increments only, is huge and pointless. The Tide-graph just takes up too much space and is obviously present in ALL modes despite being used in just two. For the RRP of this watch a dual layer LCD display could be implemented which would eliminate the crippled nature of the other modes not displaying current time etc.
    – Light-button wobbles and makes the watch look and feel cheap.

With regard to the solar powered-ness of the watch. I don’t know if there is a decline in quality (cutting corners to boost profits), or if some reviewers had dodgy-batteries beyond Casio’s control, but My MTG-900DU is still going strong after 10 years. With the MTG-900DU, the battery facilitates a charge for about 6 months without any light (with power save turned on). A couple of hours of sun on a sunny day is enough to see you through all the winter months. Artificial-light is not effective because it doesn’t contain much energy and is optimized for a specific-wavelength/frequency that doesn’t necessarily correspond to the frequency response of the Solar-cell anyway. Natural-light on a winters day is enough to trickle-charge the watch.
If you take your watch off at night when you go to bed, so the watch can also sleep (the display turns off when stationary for a length of time (With Powersave activated)) and are not a vampire, then you’ll never know it was solar powered. I bought the GW-7900 because of my experience with the Solar-powered MTG-900DU.

A similar watch is the G-7900. The G-7900 doesn’t have solar or radio-link, but it does have Auto-repeat for the countdown-timer (can’t set it by the second either though) and the moon-phase indicator is much larger. However, it too has a ridiculously large indicator on the right, but for Stopwatches 1 and 2 (It has two stopwatches); the Tide-graph squished in between the two not doing spring/neap tides. Frustratingly both watches are let down by poor design and for me there still isn’t the perfect G-shock.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersThe order was perfect! The packaging was a bit messed up though. Although I think customs opened it for security verification or something. Order arrived a day early than expected. Was happy with that! The watch..what can I say, it’s a G-Shock! Excellent and very robust! I wear it everyday to work. Used in the beach and pool. No problem whatsoever.

Some people think that the watch is too big. This depends on how you look at it though. You must picture the watch from the viewer’s perspective. When you look in the mirror when you wear it, it’s not that big. It doesn’t overpower your wrist. The thickness (this was concern before) is just okay. Not very think and bulky. It’s very light and I have no qualms using it everyday.

I’m attaching some pictures. I have to stay that the coolest thing about it is when you are in time mode and when you press the Split-Reset button on the upper right, it gives you the world time of the country where you set it for. In my case, Hong Kong. Just a simple convenience but very much appreciated!

This should be on the Master of G collection! My advice – buy one!

Enjoy and wear yours in good health!

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersReally liking the g shock, solidly built watch apart from the screws that have a bit of a wobble to them that is a bit worrying after other owners complaints that they’ve popped out ?? I can tell you one thing there definitely not threaded screws, just seem to be popped in there ? No other negatives, only positives. I’ll update this at a later stage……….

Update > this watch has been worn at work for just over a month so still early days yet but it hasn’t got a mark on it. It’s been bashed about a fair bit,the metal bolts seem to take the brunt of the knocks and bangs to stop it getting marks on it. Not lost any of the bolts as of yet. Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI’ve had casio’s since the 80’s and this watch is by far the best. I’ve never paid 80 for a watch before but I’m not sorry. I love knowing that I don’t have to worry about the battery and knowing the time is always dead on to the second. Never owned a g-shock before but as it is a g-shock then I always have the pice of mind that if I ever drop it or catch it on something then the watch will be fine. Cannot recommend this watch enough. All casio watches are superb build quality and are very accurate but having tough solar and multi band 6 then it takes it to a whole new level. No matter what casio watch you buy you won’t be sorry. Thanks for reading my review.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a fantastic G-Shock watch. I have owned a few G-Shocks over the years and this is by far the best I’ve had. This has quickly become my everyday watch as it is just practical. It is a little chunkier than other G-Shock bodies but not so that it becomes unwieldy. I had an older model that had a Velcro strap and although the body of the watch was slimmer (marginally, these are G-Shocks and so slimmness is never going to be a feature) the strap raised the thing off of the wrist by quite a bit.

This watch runs off of batteries that are solar charged. I live in the UK and got the watch for Christmas and so had what felt like a life time of darkness to contend with. Throughout the winter months it dropped down to medium charge a few times but the performance was never impaired (that I noticed). If I ever felt that it needed a top up I just left it on a windowsill for a little while.

This watch also has radio controlled time setting. It is a nice thing to know that your watch will always be extremely accurate without having to update the seconds on it every now and then which I had to do on my other G-Shocks. These were great but over time they did gain or lose seconds. Nothing I ever bothered to get sorted as it was over months but once you notice something like that it can niggle a bit. This watch does not have that problem. As part of it’s World Time feature you can set your location to a city near you and it will update via the radio to this time automatically. You do have to set the location yourself or it will correct to your last set location.

Another location based feature is the tide table. Set the watch to the next high tide and you will always be able to tell what the sea is doing. I live by the sea and this is a fantastic feature. Looking at the sea and it is obvious to see it the tide is in or out but being able to tell if it going out or coming in is a bit harder so this watch makes it easy to tell at a glance. It covers a fairly broad range of tide positions but a click will tell you the exact time of high tide and it has been fairly accurate over the time I have had the watch.

All of the above comes with the total peace of mind that no matter what you do to your watch it will just keep on going. These things are almost indestructible. If you want a G-Shock and you live near the sea then this is the watch for you.

I think this the 4th g- shock watch that my husband has had, although he is mostly satisfied with the watches the big fault lies with the strap. In each case it has been the strap that failed even the metal bracelet one. That one it was the fixing that failed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve had this for over a year now and I love it. I do a lot of outdoor activities in summer and winter, including a lot in the water. It still looks new even though it gets knocked about. The screen is significantly recessed and unbelievably hasn’t got a single scratch yet.

Love the solar thing as I hate the hassle of changing batteries. Don’t use it for anything other than time and stopwatch. The tide feature is a bit vague – i just end up using the internet for accurate tide times. Backlight is cool. The strap also has nice flaps on the back, so it sits really nicely on your wrist. Its a chunky watch, but not heavy or overly intrusive.

Overall, the perfect watch if you want something durable, waterproof, self charging and easy to read!

    love it!

Brilliant quality watch, battery can go quite quick if you leave auto light on in winter but other than that fantastic. Has taken a few bashes whilst being worn and still standing strong.

This is my third g-shock in thirty years. The first one fell to bits, and the second’s battery ran out twice, the first after ten years, and then after 14 months, and 45.00 a go for the battery and re-sealing it was time to upgrade to solar powered. It hasn’t disappointed !

Fantastic watch and very smart in how it conserves energy to extend the solar battery life. I use this for work as I need something that is constantly accurate and doesn’t suddenly die due to the battery. The light works well and I’ve have no problem with the radio controlled updates or the battery power. Stick it on a window sill over night and switch on power save mode to prolong the battery life. Very easy to set up.

It’s a great G with loads of features. Comfortable and quite light, feels robust. Tide calculations are reasonably accurate for where I am. You can customise the tide location as well as the preset locations.

This watch tells the time and so much else. Its a big watch and has more features than you could ever need, including 6 alarms, countdown timer, stopwatch etc. The face is easy to read with a good light up function, its very comfortable and good for any sports. Definitely a watch worth the money, especially if you have an active lifestyle.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is my first G-Shock and I’m very pleased with how it works and looks. I live by the sea and the tide function works very well. This is a ‘tough solar’ watch and in Ireland we can go for weeks and not see the sun. I also work in an office environment and sometimes tend to have my watch covered by a sleeve. When I first had the watch I turned auto-light on (backlight comes on when you turn the watch face towards you if light conditions are low) and I didn’t have power-save on. After a few days the charge went to Medium. I turned auto-light off and switched power save on and after one good charge in the sun for an hour or 2 have been at high charge ever since. Power save turns the watch screen off at nighttime when there is no light source present. According to the specs the watch should run after a full charge for 10 months without any further charging. However the use of the backlight seems to drain it down pretty quickly. So if you live in a climate with little sun I suggest turning auto light off and power save on.

An excellent watch, tough, big, solar powered and multi band 6 atomic timekeeping. All the functions work i set the tide graph up with my local tide table and this works really well as does the moon setting. This watch is also extremely comfortable and light and i don’t know i’m wearing it. The function buttons are easily operated and require minimum effort to press them, i know this is an issue with some people, but honestly they are like soft touch buttons. The back light is excellent and can be set to illuminate for 1.5 or a 3 second duration and also can be set to illuminate automatically with a flick of the wrist. This is a chunky watch, i have 7.5″ wrists, and the watch looks great, sitting high and bold you can’t miss it!! If you like the G-SHOCK range of watches then you’ll like this, if your new to them or looking to get one for the first time then get one i can’t say you’ll be disappointed, an excellent watch and recommended.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI gave this watch 4 stars because it’s just one star short of perfect. It has agreat strap and very comfortable on the wrist. I love the solar power so there are no battereis to replace however the capacitor that the solar cell charges will evenualy need to be replaced. The multi band 6 is great keeps the watch extremely accurate and works very well. I love the auto illumination function when you look at the watch in the dark. I haven’t had a digital watch for over 20 years so it took me a while to get the hang of all the functions and how they work (once I sat down and followed the instructions!) The moon phase and tide state are, for me, gimics I’ll never use but I accept some people do use them. The only thing that lets it down (for me) is its size, due in part to the moon and tide display. The time and date digits are too small. I wanted a watch I could easily read (the time) without my glasses on. It looked big enough in pictures of it on peoples wrists but it isn’t. Other than the size of the time digits its a great watch.

I can honestly say that there is nothing I don’t like about this watch. The tide/moon readings are fun and quite useful as I live by the sea.The automatic illumination works well. The watch arrived fully charged and despite wearing it in bed it has picked up the signal from the atomic clock every night so far with no problems. It looks and feels great…never needs a battery…never need to wind it up and all the functions work as described in an easy to follow manual…the only down side is that its so good and I like it so much that I dont think I will be needing a new watch for a very long time..and I like buying watches..oh well

Casio’s G-SHOCK range of watches never fail to impress me. If Atomic Clock accuracy matters to you then the ‘Wave Ceptor’ technology along with the ‘Multi-Band 6’ radio controlled timing is right up your street. This watch roots through to the Atomic Clock 6 times a day to ensure your watch is accurate to the second and also updates Daylight Saving Time (BST – GMT). Also, setting your ‘Home City’ when you first get the watch ensures that the Moon & Tide data is accurate too. This watch also comes with all the usual features you’d expect from a Casio, indeed it does and has everything that the more expensive GulfMan (GW-9110-1ER) has but is cheaper for the lack of Titanium in the construction, but unless you’re actually going to take a sledgehammer to this watch you just wont miss the Titanium of the GulfMan so this really is the watch for you if you’re quibling over the two models.
A fantastic purchase and I completely reccommend this awesome watch to anyone who wants an accurate, proper man’s watch!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have always been a fan of the g-shocks mainly as i need a watch that is going to survive having a harsh life. I bought this model after my other casio (non g-shock) started to fail. It had the wave ceptor technology that kept perfect time via radio waves from the atomic clock. This model also has this feature and thus was the main reason for me buying it aside from the man other models.

Its light, chunky and nice and has a nice clear easy to read face. I did my home work before buying and alot of people gave the advise of read the instructions when you first get the watch. Now, if you want to precisely now how the tide and moon will be that day then fair enough, but myself, just wanted the time to be accurate and on ‘auto’ to receive the radio signal itself…..dead easy. The other features such as stop watch and timer etc are the same as any other watch, if you struggle to use them, then stick to a analogue watch maybe, or just ask your carer for the time.

Tough looking, tough wearing, tough functions. As a hunter it is very nice to know the moonfase, and living near a shore where high/low tide decides if you can walk on the beach or not, the tide function is very usable – and you can trust what it tells once you have set it up correctly. The layout is clearly readable. Only the crome ring around this “i’m alive-marker” are both silly and absolutely useless features. I would have preferred a bigger moon-sign at this place. Anyway i really love this watch that stands up for almost everything you self can survive 🙂

I purchased this G Shock to replace my Casio Protrek which I had sold on.
Its an excellent replacement and looks very good on the wrist. its well made and of course has Waveceptor timekeeping which is a doddle to set up (just tell it your home City and its job done).
The watch is I think described in most ads as being dark grey but it is actually black with dark grey buttons. All of the functions are easy to use but the moon / tide graph function is a bit of gadgetry that you probably wont use and it just takes up a chunk of the face that could be used for bigger display of the time.
Its very comfy on the wrist and has two supports behind the main strap that keep it in place.
I would advise anyone looking for a very tough and good looking watch to purchase this but if you are looking for a slim dainty looking thing to put on your wrist then you are up the wrong tree – its big and chunky and is from the newer large case variety of Casio.
    Overall a winner.

This is a stylish, light weight but really robust and chunky watch just as you’d expect from a Casio G Shock. It’s got all the features you could want and more you’ll probably never need. But it’s easy to understand and operate so you shouldn’t ever get confused or stuck in one of those “how the hell do I get it back from here?” button pushing frenzies.

Buy it, you will not be disappointed. Trust me.

This watch is everything which is claimed by Casio, a good size but nice and light; all the functions are easy to set and I think that it looks good too!

+++Further Report+++……As the weeks/months have gone by my watch has lost battery life, in fact it lost all data including time & date; this is in spite of me following the instructions regarding giving the watch access to light. It let me down several times.
I do like the watch and Amazon are sending me a replacement (Great Customer Service!!) so I’ll try again, hopefully no further problems.

Bought this watch because my husband had looked at reviews and needed a hard wearing watch that he could wear for work without fear of damaging it. So far it has lived up to its reputation for being tough and comfortable to wear. Not the most elegant looking thing but looks pretty cool in a chunky way. Cannot comment on the rest of its functions as yet as I doubt my hubby has worked out how to use them yet!

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersHaving been hooked for the last 2 years with my retro Casio databank calculator watch. I thought I should get something a bit more robust for my day-to-day walking, cycling and DIY activities.

I originally wanted to get the G version of the watch -the ones that’s in the new ‘End of watch’ film that’s coming out. However, this one came reduced by 27% and had solar and atomic clock features. So I got it.

First impressions were impressed by the quality of the watch, didn’t feel that cheap way that g-shock pretenders possess. The only slight downside -and I mean a very very minor thing-was the watch catching on my sleeve due to chunkiness, but I soon got used to it – plus it’s good to keep the watch out in the light whenever possible.

I’ve had no problems with setting watch up or maintaining power levels. My instructions were missing, but that was not an issue as you just log onto the Casio website, stuck in the 4 digit code on the rear plate and there they were. The auto light function performs better than the same feature on my calc watch. Great little feature.

Overall, Great watch that is excellent no matter what you put it through envionment-wise.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving used this watch on a daily basis for almost a year now, I can tell you that it’s almost identical to its condition when I bought it last Christmas. Despite such a beefy and thick frame, it fits comfortably on the hand with a resin strap and, surprisingly, feels very light both in hand and on wrist. The moon phases have always been accurate, as have the world times. Whilst swimming it handles water extremely well, and the light is very illuminating when it comes to checking the time in the dark.

Overall, this watch looks set to last for a very long time and I am very happy with the purchase. The seller himself delivered on time and at a great price. If you’re looking for a durable watch, go for this one or any other in it’s GW-7900 series, now is the time.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI’m a G-Shock collector and this model was one of my first purchases.
Moon/Tide graph display, World time, Stop watch, Multiple alarms and a countdown timer all feature on this model.
I liked the classic G-Shock looks of this model and although other colour variations are available, this is still a classy looking model.
The size is quite large though, so for people looking for something more discreet I would try a smaller G-Shock like the GLX-5600 which shares most of the same features.
However, despite it’s size it is very comfortable to wear. On the underside of the watch face are two supports which form part of the strap and which help to keep your watch squarely on your wrist.
The radio controlled time keeping is 100% spot on and overall set up was very quick and easy indeed. View the manual on pdf doc via the Casio UK website if you need to.
The moon and tide graph are set up in accordance to your home city. Choose your home city on initial set up and the correct Moon/Tide display is automatically generated.
They also work correctly and I have checked this using both Star Walk on the ipad and internet websites. You can manually adjust the Moon/Tide graphs should you need to though.
The watch oozes ruggedness and despite it’s size it is still light in weight.
An excellent, feature packed, easy to use watch that will certainly withstand the test of time and being rugged and tough meaning you can wear it virtually anywhere.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought this watch for work, as builing sites are pretty rough places.

Watch lookes great , and all the features are excellent, however the moon graph and tide display are pretty much next to useless. The 5 alarms are brilliant, for a heavy morning snoozer or for regular reminders.

Setting up the watch is relativly easy , just pick the city and hit the auto receive button and hey presto, time ,date , tide and moon all set.

The solar panels are hidden around the top and bottom of the face, it’s an idea to leave it on the window ledge for a few days to charge the battery, but don’t worry when the screen goes blank, It’s entered Power Save mode, it’ll return to display with a press of any button.

One thing I’d say the watch is a very dark grey , not black , and very chunky, but if you like G-shocks , then you’ll love this! It’s tough , easy to use and looks the part. I had an old G-shock years ago ,which died in the washing machine at 40 degrees!, and after buying this one I’ll never wear another watch to work I’d forgotten just how good they are.

So all in all , it’s a great tough watch, won’t let you down but just remember to take it out your trousers before washing them!

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersThis is a great watch, but can be made so much better:
I actually expected a bigger face (have an old Pathfinder which is bigger). This compromises several features. The worst is that the tide graph changes in 2-hourly steps. If Casio had made a bigger useful face, this could have been done in 12 steps instead (i.e. hourly). But the setting of the local tide times was easy. The solar pannel is tiny. I have not yet had a low battery warning, but you have to be aware of the problem and roll up your sleeve etc. There is so much unused surface on the watch, I cannot understand why this was left so tiny. In fact the 4 screws you see on the face are fake. The little circle on the right shows the seconds, this is the most useless feature I can think of, as you can see the seconds anyway. Don’t know how long the rubber strap will last, it doesn’t look as strong as that on my Pathfinder, but it is long enough to fit over the wetsuit.
Having said all this, I admit that this is a great watch and I certainly tested it in the water. Picking up the atomic clock signal proved reliable (in Wales), as I don’t even have to put it near a window, although I don’t live in the best reception area.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat watch, tide graph works well which is why I bought it, the other gadgets all seem to be fine but the solar battery wont hold a charge, casio claim that it will charge in about 10 minutes but after 8 hours it was still showing to be low and kept switching itself down into sleep mode.
I have returned it and ordered a replacement as the working watch impressed me and I would like to carry on using i

Golden Review Award: 45 From Our UsersI love casios and am always tempted to add to my collection of G-Shocks due to the sheer genius of their technology. This watch keeps time perfectly by syncing to an atomic clock everyday, but requires you to do nothing except keep it near a window. It uses Solar Power to keep charged, and will automatically go into power saving mode if it detects that it is not being used, or is in the dark for an extended period of time. Along with the fact that the watch is indestructable (if you’re bored go onto the US G-Shock site to see what this watch can do), it is amazing to know that even if you store it away at any time, you simply need to let it soak up some sun, collaborate with the atomic clock, and it will be ready for use again. Moreover, I love the idea of having a moonphase indicator which is why I bought the 7900, although the dial isnt as big as I wanted (Casio PLEASE make a watch with a real emphasis on its moonphase indicator), it still does the job perfectly, along with a tide graph, which looks really cool. Both elements are great to see as it makes you think of nice, natural images of the sea and the moon. Besides this, it has everything, anyone would want from a watch. On the home screen, you can switch between a day/date indicator and a dual time zone; the stopwatch is obviously very capable and responsive; the timer works well and gives you up to 24hrs; the alarms and World Time work well, too. The watch is aesthetically very cool to wear if its your thing, and you like a large watch. Although, more so than other casios, it is more subtle and military looking, with only the middle part of the display showing red, with the rest of the watch being uniformly black (which I personally like). The watch also wears very comfortably.

Some Cons (I hope Casio reads this!):
I understand product differentiation, however, I wish there was some degree of standardization on the functions of the watch. I also own the G 7710, and love that it has an extensive number of cities in world time, has a 100 hour countdown timer, more options for the stop watch, and many more options for the home screen, such as the Week of the year, etc.. I know this isn’t essential, but if you guys have figured out how to squeeze that all into a watch, why not make it standard?
Also, I feel that solar watches lose out in terms of design options to the standard battery watches. Again I love the technology, but if you guys get bored, why not move the solar panels around so that the display doesn’t have such a large border?

Final Remarks: If you want an amazing watch (or are looking for a great present!), this is it. Its great looking, technologically so cool – you’ll love seeing the light come on automatically by tilting your wrist to look at it, built to last forever, and really a great companion. If you are even vaguely looking for a rugged, reliable watch, get this! Its got more than the bog standard solar-atomic casios, and does everything else brilliantly. Also, if you like gadgets, the moonphase indicator and tide graph are accurate, whereas the protek watches have instruments which don’t always work completely accurately (such as the altimeter – at least not without constant input of the reference height). If you don’t have a G-Shock, man up and get one!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis G shock watch first came out 9 years ago and is still readily available today. It is part of the G rescue series range of watches inspired by search and rescue teams.

Of all the G shocks released over the years (I have had them since early 90’s), this one ranks up there as one of the best as it is excellent value for money and is feature packed.

Features include – solar power, atomic 6 band timekeeping, world time, 5 alarms, stopwatch, timer, WR200m, chunky case with wrist grips but not massive just right, tough mineral glass, full auto E.L backlight.

Why pay silly amounts for a highend G shock when this one is all you need, Casio’s best G shock of all time really in terms of mid range and priced models. A sure winner, i’m on my second one as previous one was worn the whole time and took a beating, so invested in a new one recently to replace my original one purchased 9 years ago.
