The Importance of Crate Training

  • Crate training is important for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages. Not only does it give your dog a safe and comfortable place to retreat to when he needs to rest, but it also prepares him for many important life experiences.
  • When your dog visits the groomer or veterinarian, it’s possible that he may need to spend some time in a crate or kennel while he waits. A dog that has not been crate trained can seriously injure himself trying to escape. Additionally, crate training allows your dog to travel safely in your car while traveling.
  • Crate training is also useful in teaching the rules of the house to a new puppy. Crates can help a frightened puppy feel more secure, aid in house training, and limit his access to certain areas of the house.

Introducing Your Dog to the Crate

  • Begin by making dog crate as comfortable as possible. A favorite bed or blanket will help your dog feel more at home. You can even try placing an item of recently worn clothing to comfort the dog with a familiar scent.
  • Make sure the door of the crate is secured in the open position and encourage the dog to enter the crate by tossing a few treats inside. Be sure to praise him when he enters.
  • At first, he may enter with just his front paws so that he can grab the treat and leave, but with practice and encouragement, he will begin to feel comfortable inside.
  • Once he seems calm entering the crate, you can begin closing the crate behind him for just a second or two. Praise and reward him for patiently waiting for you to open the crate for him to let him out. With practice, you can increase the duration of the dog’s time inside the crate.
  • Never force your dog to enter the crate as this will only cause him to distrust you and dislike the crate.

Rewarding Your Dog in the Crate

  • To further encourage your dog to stay inside the crate for longer periods of time, consider saving his favorite chews or toys and only giving them to him in the crate.
  • You can also feed your dog inside his crate. As he becomes comfortable, you can close the door behind him and release him when he’s done.
  • With practice, you can have your dog wait a minute or two after finishing his meal before releasing him. Gradually increase this time until he’s waiting for 10 or more minutes after eating.

Increasing Your Dog’s Time in the Crate

Always make sure your dog’s crate is somewhere close to you to ensure that he does not feel isolated. Isolation will cause him to dislike the crate, so keep the crate close during the first few weeks or months of training.

Gradually, you can move the crate further away, but only after the dog has become comfortable staying inside for longer periods of time.

Many dogs, especially puppies, will cry or whine during their introduction to the crate. It’s important not to let your dog out until he’s calm and quiet. Otherwise, he will learn that making noise will get you to let him out.

I have other soft material crates but always a bit of fight to build back after washed the mesh. This was way easier to put together after wash.

Good cage for in car and van. Slightly hard to fold down, especially if someone had issues with their hands. My only thing is puppy chews on the mechanism inside and it doesn’t have a place to secure them when inside it so as soon as I open it pup can jump out. Apart from that well made and roomy easy to transport from place to place and can be folded down to save space when not in use. I attached a strap to it to make it easy to carry when the pup is inside.

Crate did the trick, its compact when not Being used (transported) as it’s only been used for our lab to use when she sleeps at night during our travels

It’s a nice crate and makes a good den/bed for my whippet pup, but he has figured out how to escape very quickly if I try to close him in there. He just scratches at the insides of the zip and undoes it! I’ve had to use zip ties to make sure he stays in for times when it isn’t ok for him to get out. The plus side is that the mesh seems hardy as it has not frayed or broken and has endured some scratching by sharp puppy claws and is still in one piece.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe recently adopted a 6-year-old German Shephard, as he is not trained whatsoever, we thought it would be important to provide him with a safe, comfortable place to rest.

This dog crate is brilliant quality and is big enough for even the largest of dogs, with extra room for water, toys and treats. It also easily folds so it can be transported, or used in the boot of a car.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis crate is fantastic. Quality is very strong and its folds up and down in seconds. No fiddley arms to have to connect together, just pull the handle to lock it in place and twist to unlock and fold away. Highly recommended

For reference we bought the L size. Our cockapoo is on the smaller size. As you can see from the photos she has enough room to sit uprigh

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHaving a young rescue dog means it was getting unsafe having her able to move around the car whilst driving so we had to get her a portable dog crate to open up as and when she needs to be in the car with us.

It just about fits in the boot of our estate car and when not in use fold up almost completely flat and stays on the floor of the boot and can be stacked on, when built up it’s nice and sturdy and holds her in well, we’ve actually noticed she will jump into the car on her own now that she has a nice safe place to sit in.

I would say you can only really use this for larger medium dogs or small ones as you wouldn’t want to try and fit a great dane in, however for our rescue dog who is of medium build she fits in fine.

Our dogs love it. They were a little hesitant to begin with but now they love being in it. I think it’s like a den for them so they don’t mind it at all.
The material is strong and the seams are double stitched.
It’s easy to use and clean. So far one of them has done a number two in it. Comes up clean no problem. The colour is darker than expected but I don’t mind.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersReally delighted with the dog crate. It does everything the advert says it would. We have put a warm fluffy doughnut style bed inside the crate and our little Jack Russell really loves it. The set up and collapse functionality works perfectly and it takes no time at all. Would highly recommend this item.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis crate is really good – we have a 5yr old Collie, who hasn’t been crated for a year. We got the biggest size , and he could have a party in there ! He is calm and settled in there – he uses it as his bed of choice at home – with the doors open, but is also utterly unbothered when we zip him in. We pop him in there when all our tiny grandchildren are toddling around for safety. We’ve used it in a holiday cottage and he was quite happy overnight.
I suppose if you’re dog likes chewing they might have a go at it, but ours can chew and has not touched it !
It is sturdy, smart, easy to use and easy to clean.
Really happy with this crate and would most definitely recommend.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGreat soft crate – easy to assemble and take down, very roomy inside.

Most importantly, my dog loves it. He’s not normally a fan of crates, but he likes this one and willingly gets into it. He’s got an injured leg at the moment, meaning he has to sleep in a crate for now, until after he gets upcoming surgery and then recovery, and he’s happy with being in the crate – which is good, and takes a bit of stress out of a situation that’s not the best.

Hoping it lasts well – and so far, so good.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe ‘PUMBLER’ collapsible dog crate is the perfect size for my Airedale Terrier, he’s relatively large for his size so I was worried that medium wouldn’t be big enough — but there’s plenty of room.

I mostly wanted one of these to take him with us on car journeys, the crate easily fits in the boot which is convenient when the back seats aren’t free due to family members occupying them.

The collapsing mechanism works brilliantly, the instructions are printed on either side of the crate and all you really need to know it to twist the knob and then push the crate to collapse it.

The puppy is very happy in here, but only if the doors are open, so far. Hoping to get him used to it closed for the car next!

    Absolutely what we needed

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe PUMBLER dog crate is a great device for those travelling with pets a lot. If you have an expensive car or motorhome you don’t want you pets bouncing about all over the place while your driving and these collapsible dog crates are a great solution. They take seconds to setup and offer a nice comfortable space for your dog while travelling. The sides are a seethrough mesh so they still get to see whats going on around them and it comes with a carrier strap for ease.

The price is fair and reasonable, the base has a comfortable and waterproof lining pad and the corners are toughened to prevent wear and tear during transit. The dog crate is a great way to transport your pet without hassle and the excellent thing about this carrier is that when your not using it, you can just fold it flat and reclaim the space back for shopping, messages or whatever else your buying.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersWe got this for our Collie in the motorhome – it’s really quick and easy to pull open/pack away, I thought we may have problems getting it back in the carry case but not at all. We got the large, as suggested by the size guide, but we also measured our limited space and chose one to fit. It’s a good size for our large Collie when sleeping but I would probably go for an XL so it was taller if we wanted it for her to be in when awake. As it is, the size was exactly as described and fits perfectly under the table which is what we needed and she has plenty of room to stretch out when sleeping. The other bonus of this vs her usual metal crate (aside from space saving/weight) is that it doesn’t rattle and wake us up when she starts shuffling in the mornings!
I hadn’t realised when I ordered that it comes with a padded cushion inside – that was a real bonus as we didn’t need to find one to fit, but we’ll wait and see if the little madam decides to eat it!
Overall I’m really impressed, it packs down into a really good size and shape to store and seems to be easy to wipe clean if anything spills on it etc
