Arrived on time easy, to assemble and seems reasonably durable hasn’t been used yet outdoors looking for metal etc but seemed to pick up coins etc when placed on floor and has plenty of adjustment on it so the youngster it was purchased for was happy with it. Please note it does not come with batteries.

My partner tested this out briefly as we wanted to keep it as a Christmas present but it’s true to it’s word in being very simple and perfect for beginners as there aren’t tons of features to get to grips with and even if it’s your first time, as with my partner, it’s very easy to set and up and get going with straight away. He didn’t find anything immediately in the garden but lightly burying a few bits afterwards in the shrub border to see if it picked them up it found each item on the first run over the area, so definitely works but is obviously the kind of build and feature-light model you expect in this price range/designed for beginners – so probably not any good for more serious or experienced detectors out there but great as an introductory option.

Never used a metal detector before, but managed to use it to find my partners lost platinum engagement ring which was dropped somewhere in a large patch of mud and deep grass. It was hidden very deep and isn’t very large, so was delighted when it picked it up. Very happy.

A great item for beginners. Can actually keep kids entertained for a while on a beach or in fact our back garden. Quality seems good and comes in a plainish brown box.

This is a good metal detector for a beginner. It does need batteries before you can use it though and these aren’t supplied so you will need 2 x PP3 9V batteries first. It also needs assembling but this was easy enough to do and my 14 year old managed to do this himself. It comes with an instruction manual on how to assemble and use. It’s a sturdy piece of kit and feels well made. We’ve never used one before so it was interesting to see how it worked. It has a clear display screen and all the controls are on the front. It also has an earphone socket so you can plug headphones in to listen to it. It worked well detecting everything, but it took a bit of working out how to set it so it didn’t pick up everything though, and I’m not even sure whether we set it right even then! I was very surprised at the high quality of this metal detector, I don’t think it would be a first one for beginners because it is much higher quality than that.
It is easy to put together and seems to work really really well (however I wouldn’t know if it wasn’t detecting metal underground).

It has been many years since I actually used a metal detector, I forget how exciting it actually is. This one from ‘DeeAWai’ is rather good and seems to work very well, I got my 11yr old to test it in the garden and he found it was picking up metal objects just fine, he did want to dig up my lawn to see what it was he had found but had to dissuade him, then again I doubt you would notice much difference if he had as my lawn is in a terrible state!!
The version I received was the ‘teenager’ model priced at 49.99, it comes boxed requiring assembly which takes about 10 minutes or so. The instruction manual is very clear and easy to understand with regards to the assembly. This is powered by 2 x PP3 9V batteries, I used good powerful Duracell alkaline in mine. Key features this metal detector offers are:

The detector is well made for the price, an all metal shaft and a good clear display panel with all the various controls easily at hand. The controls on the front allow you to adjust for metal selection, sensitivity and volume.
In use, it did pick up metal on the ground and under, I had the setting on ‘all metal’, thus it was picking up everything, all those screws, nails, bolts etc I’ve dropped on my lawn which have buried themselves all these years are now possible to get out, maybe not! What I did get confused with, even though the manual is well written, I found it hard to understand how this discriminates certain metals, it states in the manual to set the DESC control to 11, 12, 13 or 15 which will reject certain metals, however, the dial control on the detector has no such scale, in fact there’s no scale at all so I don’t know how one would select these levels.
Having said that, I suppose it would be a case of trial and error, in any case, my son is fascinated with this and as such wants to take it out with us next time we go on an outing.
Therefore, based on the reaction I’ve received from my son, I’m very happy to recommend it, would make a great Christmas or Birthday present. I don’t think it would be ideal for the ‘professional metal detector enthusiast’, I believe you’d need a much more calibrated piece of kit.

This metal detector requires two PP3 9 volt batteries which are not included. It is made from reasonably strong materials but does feel a bit plastic. It is also quite easy to over extend the leg of the detector which pops it out of the plastic adjuster and takes some fiddling to get back in.
It is easy enough to set up and use. Screw it together and add the batteries and off you go. Instructions are included. You do not need a headset as there is a loudspeaker and a visible meter but for smaller objects a set of earphones might help you out. I tested it with various coins in my garden. Detection range was about 15 – 20 cm for a 1p and up to around 25 cm for a pound coin. Not too shabby really considering the price.
You can pay a lot of money for a professional metal detector and in some respects you will get what you pay for. In my opinion for the money this is a really good starter unit which will keep kids detecting for hours or allow adults to sample the hobby.

On the monitor there’s also an on off switch, a knob to tell you metal has been detected and a jack socket for you to plug in some headphones if required

This basic mode metal detector is just right for our grandson who is showing an interest in taking this up for his hobby and if he enjoys it and carries on we maybe will get an upgrade for him . It was easy to put together and it takes 2x DC9V to power it , it has discrimination mode and adjustable stem 30 inches – 42 inches , sensitivity mode and all metal mode , light enough for our eight year old to carry in comfort . The price for this basic model is about right for its quality and could update maybe in the future .

I thought that I would never need one of these, how wrong I was, the pin pointer works so well, I have tried others ( friends one) which you have to be touching it to make it bleep, but this one has a distance of about 3 inches. and is very accurate. a must have.
Just starting out as a detectorist and this is a brilliant detector that is very easy to use. Lightweight and so simple to put together with clear instructions and basic tips. Definitely recommend.
I was a bit weary at first but first use out in the field to find some lost mole traps under ground and it did not dissapoint i managed to find them all, easy to use and assemble. Only issue i do have is i dropped it on the kitchen floor and both covers for the batterys broke off so the plastic is quite weak but none less ideal for anyone starting off, fun for kids or just ideal to have as a tool you might need.
Have to say this is a great starter detector to buy. Very lightweight and easy to use. If you set it to all metal to start with you get lots of beeps for old bottle tops etc but it’s the best way to start. We found all sorts of tat at our local beach but also a few coins etc. Since taken out across fields with some success too but more importantly its kept her busy and in the fresh air!
For the money I think this is worth every penny. I didn’t want to buy a toy one as I’ve had them before and they’ve been rubbish so this seemed to be the best one to go for and I’ve been really pleased with it.
I would say its depth is about 6 inches max, but that’s all you really need when you are starting out.
