Dewalt drills just last and las
After 8 years my old Dewalt Combi Hammer, has not packed in, just showing signs of age. I will be very pleased if this one lasts as long ( the original batteries lasted about 5 years)

Only likes. This is my third Dewalt hammer drill driver. The last two (still working but in another country for now) have a 3 gear gearbox and this has just 2 gears, but it is approximately 40mm shorter and lighter too. The LED is great in that you are now able to see the work piece in the wall and it has three brightness settings. The whole mechanism sounds and feels smoother than my last two even when they were new. Can still drill 16mm right through an outer house wall.

Dewalt DCD796 Cordless Drill
My second Cordless Drill have been using my power drill as my old cordless was not up to the job. Ordered the DeWalt DCD796 18v 5.0Ah. It arrived in 3 days excellent timing as I was about to build a wood frame to support the roses. As there was a wall behind the roses I decided I would pin the 100mm half-round posts to the wall. Hoping the DeWalt could drill 7cm into the brick wall so I could use masonry screws to secure the 5cm post to the wall. The DeWalt performed way over my expectations. I completed the 6 post structure with horizontal rails, putting 2 x 7cm wood screws at each wood joint. Took most of the day and the DeWalt battery check, 3 bars, still showed 75% battery power, Job done. I have a great respect for this DeWalt product and will treat it with the respect it deserves. Cheated by Amazon because this was not New as advertised in the web page when ordered. It did not come with original packaging. 1 star deducted. I have not bought DeWalt “naked” tools but have Bosch naked ones. No manufacturer would miss the opportunity to advertise by having their name prominently displayed on original OEM boxes of products.
Have to wait for better weather for first job of the season to test it out fully when repairing fencing. Meanwhile all I can say is that the chuck spins when battery inserted and triggered engaged.
Update Feb 2021. Decided to return the naked DCD796 to Amazon anbd bought a new one in kit form including case, charger and two batteries. This is the highest torque combination drill/driver I envisage needing before getting out the 2kg AEG hammer drill and the last time I had to use the AEG was 6 eyars ago chasing cable runs.

Bonjour, la perceuse t expdie rapidement comme d’habitude. Cependant, livre dans son plastique et dans un simple carton d’expdition. On peut donc se poser la question de comment elle a t achemine jusqu’ mon domicile. La fiche de connection est un peu dcale mais dans l’ensemble, l’outil fonctionne trs bien (c’est bien un type 10). Dernier point ngatif, c’est que le numro de srie n’est pas reconnu par Dewalt et donc pas d’extension de garantie de 3 ans.

The only very small negative comment is that it is hard to twist the part that alters the torque applicable with my arthritic hands. Otherwise very easy to use and batteries are very long lasting which is just what I wanted..

Bought this to replace another of the same that was stolen.
Boss piece of kit, I use it in a mechanic setting.
Boss with a wire wheel and a flap disc. Boss for drilling into steel.
Took it home a few times and drilled holes into concrete.
Used a 16mm masonry bit to install a motorbike land anchor and it was sound.
Get this one over the 10.8v or the smaller 18v.
And buy a 5ah battery. It’s worth it.

Au dpart j’tais parti sur une DCD996, mais ai finalement pris celle-ci qui est un peu moins chre.
Eh bien le couple, bien que moins important, est largement suffisant pour le bois et le mtal pas trop pais. Une fois la perceuse tenue fermement, les forets mme de forts diamtres, grignotent sans faiblir.
Niveau autonomie, une batterie 5Ah tient une journe de chantier si on tape dedans, sinon autour de deux jours.
Par contre elle est un peu lourde (dans les 2kg avec batterie). Ce n’est pas dramatique, mais aprs une semaine de placo au plafond les bras seront bien rincs. (:

Serious kit for heavy domestic tasks
Tackled a few heavy duty jobs with this and it has not failed to impress. One job actually killed a lesser version earlier this year, this Dewalt tackled that job worth ease.

I bought this as a replacement for my old and well worn Dewalt DCD776. Having checked prices on other websites and finding that similar drills are only sold with batteries and cases (which I didn’t need as there’s nothing wrong with the ones I’ve got) I was well pleased with the price and the quality of the bare unit.
My only whinge is that the battery slot is a little slack side to side but this doesn’t detract from the performance in any way.
I bought this a week or two ago, but waited until I had done a few jobs before reviewing.
I already own a Dewalt Ni-MH drill that has done sterling service over the last few years but, having recently bought a few DeWalt 18v XR tools I decided to get a drill, just because it means I can have one set of batteries with me to swap around as needed.
I bought this bare, so have used it with a 4.0AH XR battery. First impressions were good, as it felt solid and well balanced in the hand. It is quite lightweight and surprisingly small, which made me wonder if it was more of an “occasional” tool rather than the usual DeWalt pro standard. Once in use though those concerns were dispelled very quickly.
Like other DeWalt drills I have used you have to really tighten the keyless chuck as far as you can, but once it is tight it will hold the bit all day long. Really like that the chuck is smooth metal as well, harder wearing but also less likley to damage a surface if you come into contact with it whilst drilling.
The first job was to install loftboards using screws. I had done part of the job the previous month with my Ni MH drill and found just how tough loft boards are, resorting to drilling pilot holes for the screws.
On firing up this drill it seemed to be significantly faster than my other drill, even on the 1st speed setting. On putting the first screw in I found it was much more powerful as well, driving the screw in easily without a pilot hole. The compact size made it a doddle to manoeuvre and around 40 boards were fixed in short order.
I occasionally swapped the battery out to use in my Dewalt Jigsaw when 5 boards needed cutting, but after both jobs checked the charge indicator light to find I had 3 bars still. Then used the same battery in the jigsaw and an angle grinder to cut up the old loft water tank and still had 2 bars left.
Final job for the day was to fit some shelving brackets and light fittings. Using the same battery still the DCD796N and turning it up to No 2 speed it easily and smoothly drilled through brick and plaster as quickly as it had when acting as a screwdriver. It was very noticeable how much faster it was than my (previously perfectly acceptable Ni MH) old drill.
A final check confirms that the battery still had two bars of charge, so impressively efficient to boot.
One feature worth mentioning is the light. Usually these are a tiny LED mounted somewhere near to tool head which almost invariably put the mark you are drilling or screwing into in shadow. fail to light the work area. The light on this model is a proper LED, mounted on the front of the battery housing where it projects up to illuminate the whole work area perfectly.
It is such a simple idea but made such a difference when working in a dark and often confined space. I used it on its lowest setting which was still more than bright enough, but there is a brighter setting which is equivalent to a torch. Both stay on for a few seconds after you stop drilling to allow you to check your work, or there is a torch setting which leaves the light on until you turn it off.
Overall this is a fantastic tool and one I highly recommend.

My husband is a hard man to please!, But this new toy has changed him!! I never see him, only hear him as he completes a whole mishmash of long awaited DIY projects with ease. It comes with 2 x Battery’s that last a long time. It’s powerful with a handy light. Drives and drills well, weighty but manageable!!

My 10 year old De Walt combi drill started having slight problems when moving between standard drilling and the hammer drill function. After reading many reviews i bought this one, and i’m so glad i did. It is a little lighter and more compact than my previous one. Spent the last 2 days driving over 900 one and a half inch wood screws to strengthen a section of standard garden fencing panels and thought the battery was fantastic. 930 screws driven home and the battery pack is still showing 2 bars out of 3. Not bad going so i decided to leave this review. As another reviewer says the battery pack has some slight play when fitted which i had not expected from De Walt but doesn’t detract from its function, Just a little niggle. Did wonder why there was no clip on the drill body to hold a spair drill bit….only yesterday realised that the little black part on the lower body just above the battery was magnetic and is the bit holder. Does a good job, strong magnet holds every thing steady. Very happy with my purchase.

I haven’t used it much yet, but here goes. It is a little heavier than others I’ve owneded, but to me that spells quality. It’s good to handle and manipulating the chuck is straightforward. Battery life seems good – I will have to wait a little longer to verify this.
I live in France, and it will charge easily on a French plug with an adapter. I have now, in fact, installed a U.K. socket alongside the French one, so I can assure the rest of Europe that 210/220 volts is no problem. I haven’t checked charging time yet. So overall I am very pleased.
Incidentally, why did I buy on Amazon U.K? It was comparatively cheaper – and delivery was better than on the continent! Considering the current situation, that was excellent.

The drill is fantastic! When I say fantastic I really mean…FANTASTIC.
Its build is of the best I have used and over the decades I’ve gone through dozens of drills, You name em Bosch,makita’s, stihl,Milwaukie’s ect and this is by far the best built and also the strongest.
Priced on “Other retailers” at 300 I couldnt find it anywhere that was within my 250 budget which I find is enough to pay for a cordless drill, Then I looked on Amazon and saw it at a shockingly 225..B00m I snapped it up.
Its very fast, very sturdy, looks Amazing! and has TWO 5ah batteries and I cant tell you how usefull that is when your busy and the battery dies whilst the other one is in the charger and fully charged!
There is two little things that I didnt like thou?
They where its weight, I am a very big built fella 25 stone and using this was easy, however it is really heavy! but that also reflects on the quality of its build like ultra-strong allow and steel where needed, Dont forget these are really well built and the parts in them will Always be fairly heavy due to the build, So its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other…
One last thing that bugged me was the battery,
It sits into the charger perfectly its a bit fiddly to figure out how to slot it in at first but when its in the drill it really moves.
I would say it moves as much as one mil which may sound nothing but it is when you’re talking about the quality of the build as it just slightly rocks left and right, IF you have no issue with that then this is THE Perfect drill for you.
Overall I would give the drill and charger/batteries a 8.5 out of ten, Had the battery fitted better id of given it a 9.5…This is something that Dewalt need to look into, Also DONT FORGET about the 3 year warranty on it! You will need to have the charger and the drill with it as it asks for serial numbers on both also the model number on Amazon which is “DCD796P2-GB” but ul only need to use the GB when you’re asked when you go to register the drill for the warranty.

Can't be fitted with a keyed chuck, this matters as the self locking chuck slackens in hammer mode!
As stated I don’t like the chuck,shame as it spoils a very nice drill ,I understand the early models could be changed over to a keyed chuck.

Good quality metal chuck powered by metal gears and metal gear box on this version, (some have metal gears but plastic gearbox) fed by a very economic induction motor or as they like to call them nowadays “brushless” motors. Nice solid build quality and the LED light is in the best place now at the front edge of the battery housing producing shadow free illumination of the work area. Loads of power with a hard torque of 70 (there are more powerful versions if required) which is plenty for my requirements and a top speed of 2000 rpm. Bought a 4 Ah generic battery for 23 pounds which works very well. The charger I use is DCB115 which charges the 4 Ah battery up in one hour, and 2 Ah versions in 30 mins. Registered on line with DeWalt for extra guarantee totaling three years. Brilliant value. at 76.00 .
Update…. Under certain conditions, i.e. full speed in fast gear, when drilling and trigger released suddenly, the auto brake comes in and stops it so quick that the inertia in the outer sleeve of the metal chuck causes it to release it self. I contacted DeWalt and they arranged for it to go back to service agent, it was collected free next day, repaired free, and returned within 7 days of being collected. A new transmission was fitted, this has cured the problem.

We have, for years only purchased Dyson but the later models are rubbish, made cheaply & poor quality. I researched in detail all currently available upright cleaners & the Shark came out on top. I have had it now for over a month & it is the best vacuum cleaner we have ever had. Highly recommended.

Great bit of kit. Was a little sceptical at first but been using it work on stainless steel and it hasn’t skipped a beat. We have the xrp 3 speed drills and this happily keeps up and a hardy metal chuck too. People on here writing reviews are very silly. It does state quite clearly it is a body only drill. That means no battery no charger or case. You can get all that for a model that is a brushed drill but it is no good compared to these brushless models

Bough this as a started to get the 2 5a XR batteries.
The drill itself is great – a little heavy for lightweight work but not too heavy for all round use. The magnet and hook super useful as are the three lights. There are SO many versions of these drills so it takes a lot of work to find out the right one with the features you need and the best price. This was the best one I could find.
Comes in a case which is sturdy, 2 batteries and the charging unit. Now use the batteries for my jigsaw and circular saw and at 5A all the grunt and longevity I need.

I have faffed about with cheap drill drivers which didn’t drill and corded hammer drills which were heavy and needed the power point and dragging cables. I finally bit the bullet and bought this. Nothing too much for this lightweight and seriously decent bit of kit. I should have done it ages ago. Its worth EVERY PENNY – the lady DIYER!!! I have put a whole new house worth of shelves pictures flatpack beds etc etc all on my own with this excellent bit of kit. Battery lasts ages. Go on – treat yourselves I should have done it years ago!

Bought this after a lot of R&A about which one to buy- haven’t regretted it so far, touchwood! Great build quality and performance. Got some heavy DIY done around the house. Better value for money as compared to Makita etc. DeWalt also offers a 3-year warranty if you register your product online.
Had subsequently hired a professional for a bigger project and was pleased to see that he too used this very model- and this is a guy with 20 years experience in the trade!

So far so good, Used daily for work, no issues mainly used on setting 2 for drilling through metal.
Don’t be fooled by how light this drill is [I’m guessing that’s because it is brushless] it really is a powerful bit of kit. And it comes with two batteries so it’s always ready to use. I particularly like the little light that shines on the drill bit. My only gripe [and it is a small one] is that the push button that reverses the direction of the chuck is easy to push inadvertently so you are ‘un-drilling’ rather than drilling.

Produit de trs bonne qualit, trs puissant, robuste, je sors d’une Black et Decker 18v, qui est d’ailleurs un bon produit ( je l’ai donn mon fils ), mais il y des diffrences.
j’avais du sur la B&D changer le mandrin auto serrant par un classique cl, car il n’auto-serrait pas grand chose, mais sur la Dewalt il y a un mandrin auto-bloquant hyper efficace , un quart de tour et plus rien de bouge…
Le poids: Supportable, mais l l’avantage ne va pas vers la Dewalt, heureusement que je n’ai pas pris de batteries 5Ah
La puissance : Cette diffrence apparait surtout dans le perage du bois qui en fonction du diamtre de la mche demande un couple important. Pour le mtal c’est diffrent, je n’ai pas encore fait du gros diamtre (pour l’instant max 8mm sur profil acier de 3mm ) si c’est une pice dmontable j’aurais plutt tendance utiliser une perceuse colonne, car pour le mtal le couple est important mais aussi la pression apporte sur le foret, et en portable pas toujours vident en perant droit.
Avis sur les usages.
Visseuse : aucune vis ne rsiste, c’est plutt les embouts qui lchent ou les tte de vis, il faut tre trs lger sur la gachette pour tourner trs lentement, c’est d’ailleurs ce qui manque sur toutes les perceuse/visseuse, je n’ai pas vu un modle en disposant c’est en plus d’un limiteur de couple d’avoir un limiteur de vitesse pour ne pas casser les embouts ou les ttes de vis si on appuis un peu trop sur la gachette.
Perceuse : Fait trs bien son boulot, perc plein de trou dans de la ferraille de 3mm sans problme. je ne vois pas l’utilit des 2 vitesses… car si on va trop vite on brule le foret !!!
Tamponette : Fait quelque trous dans le bton sans problme, utiliser en dpannage car je prfre quand mme mon petit perforateur AEG avec fil de plus de 30 ans d’age, une bte 🙂
En conclusion, super produit, je ne regrette rien.
Pour le prix je m’tait mis un objectif 200 , je sais je suis un grand rveur. Du PRO au prix de la gamme BRICO, je suis peut tre pas tout seul rver ce genre de truc .. Rassurez vous c’est possible
Sachant que les ensembles de ce genre de produit sont plutt vers les 300/400 Jusqu’ prs de 500 en distribution brico (Profiteur qui sur-marge sur les produits dis de gamme pro qu’ils considrent comme produit de luxe si c’est un particulier qui l’achte, ou si c’est un pro, sur le non paiement de la tva et l’amortissement fiscale )
Pour l’atteindre , j’ai pris ce modle qui est un des plus puissant de Dewalt, mais sans batterie/chargeur/coffret.
Les batteries : 2 x 2.5Ah en compatible (j’en suis trs satisfait).
Le chargeur : Pas pris de risque, un modle Dewalt, mais en cherchant un peu sur Amazon on voit que pour le mme modle on peut avoir des prix diffrents…
Le coffret : je ne me sers jamais des coffrets, trop encombrant, pas assez de bras quand on va en ballade bricoleuse.
j’en ai plein mes tagres , quand je me dplace je met la perceuse dans ma caisse outils, ce genre de produits heureusement ne craint pas la promiscuit avec une cl mollette ou la poussire 😀 et dans mon atelier, sur une tagre prte servir.
Rsultat : 190 pour un ensemble perceuse + 2 x 2.5Ah+ chargeur -> Content objectif atteint 🙂
Nota: Je n’ai rien contre les produits d’entre de gamme, ils ont leurs utilit mais il faut que le prix correspondent, j’ai aussi une perceuse carrouf 14v LIion 30 elle est petite,ultra lgre elle perce des trous et elle visse.

Outstanding piece of kit – well designed for good grip and incredible torque. Had an old BOSCH one before and you can not compare they are so different in terms of capability. Does not surprise me that this is the choice of the professional trades.

J’ai remplac ma Ryobi 14V avec ce modle, je ne le regrette vraiment pas.
La perceuse est puissante, la percussion est efficace (j’a perc du 8mm dans du bton plein dans problme).
Le couple est rglable ce qui est trs utile pour la fonction vissage.
On dose la vitesse prcisemment en direct, et 2 puissances sont disponibles.
Le mandrin est autoserrant, le mcanisme est irrversible (lorsqu’on serre le mandrin la main, le moteur ne tourne pas).
La construction a l’air trs solide.
Le manche est dot d’un clairage en biais du foret: c’est trs efficace.
Un aimant porte outil est aussi prsent.
Avec une batterie 5Ah, l’autonomie est considrable (bien plus ‘une journe d’usage continu).
Je suis trs content de cet investissement.
Drills into concrete like a charm
i wanted a drill that can occasionally make a hole in a concrete wall or ceiling. And it does the job. Had to apply some force, but that’s ok.
Oh my goodness, I just love this drill. It’s small, it recharges quickly and it has so much power. I’ve not actually made any holes yet, I just sit in me chair and keep squeezing the trigger and smiling at the majesty of it. Even if that’s all I do, this has made me very happy. Thanks, DeWalt!
The last time I bought a cordless drill a few years ago it was between this and a much cheaper Bosch. I decided on the Bosch and then regretted it. The chuck used to visibly wobble meaning it wasn’t properly centered. The batteries died after a really short time. I’ve bought this now which I should have done in the first place so I’ve ended up spending more than I would have done if I’d just trusted my gut. The De Walt instantly had the feel of high quality. Something that the Bosch didn’t. It’s no wonder that all tradesmen seem to use them.
I have an older combination drill set that came with two batteries that costed me about 250 four or five years ago. As a DYI user, I never had to resort to use the 2nd battery. This drill body at 71 from Amazon was such an incredibly good buy that I now have two drills. I am taking one to our holiday place abroad for occasional use. At the same time, I upgraded to a more powerful drill, thank you Amazon.

This drill does all you can ask without complaint. Unless you after something that has SDS performance then this drill is sure to satisfy. As far as I can see, it has the highest torque/weight ratio out there. My drill is used with a 5ah battery which I guess does give it max power.
The only downside I experience is that drill bits come loose – I have heard this from other people. I don’t know if I am just not tightening the chuck properly or if is a design issue. Nevertheless, it is a fantastic drill
WOW what a fantastic bit of kit, I purchased this drill having spent some time to decide what brand and model drill to purchase. But after much deciding and reviews I went for the dewalt brushless drill. Honestly the quality of the drill is amazing it has a belt clip to one side and a magnet clip on the other side to hold your drill bits. And with the brushless technology it will last for years and years
Wow! This drill is truly impressive. I am just a home DIYer who likes to have decent tools without paying a fortune. I had previously bought a DeWalt multi tool which came with 2x2Ah batteries so when looking for a drill I searched for body only and found this one for 71 the cheapest I could find it with a battery was 160.
I received the drill next day after order and it came with absolutely nothing but if this means a price like this for a Top of the range item I’m very happy with that.
I used the drill straight away on a project I’m doing and found it to be crazy fast compared with my old DeWalt drill and very responsive while also having a precise speed control on the trigger. The drill is also much shorter than my old drill allowing it fit into smaller spaces.

2 years on. This drill is absolutely great! Never fails, lasts for ages on a 2 ah battery. The most impressive feature though is the hammer drill, it can get through some pretty challenging masonry jobs. I was putting up some framing in my garage and I was fixing the frame to the concrete floor and started using by makita 240 masonry drill but soon realised the dewalt was more than up for the job and favoured the dewalt for ease. I would absolutely not do without this drill. I have had some cheaper versions and all I can say is get this!!

Brushless power!
Already had the impact driver so had an idea what to expect, I have slowly upgraded all of my kit to dewalt brushless. This drill is the dogs! Packs some serious power when needed but thanks to the brushless technology it can be delicate too. Batteries last forever as well
