Golden Review Award: 208 From Our UsersI looked into the digitising my slides via a company, but the cost was too great; advertise 30p per slide but that is only if you have thousands. I have culled mine to about 200 and was quoted 200.
I bought from Amazon DIGITNOW FILM SCANNER, You will also need an SD card. It transfers negative and slides and lets you adjust resolution, (although I did not do that as I didn’t understand it) and exposure, which I used a lot. There is an feed so you can stack your slides and easily scan them, a viewing screen so you can adjust exposure etc. The feeder does not work with plastic mounted slides but there is a 4 slide mount that you can put them in before you scan which is not too laborious. I didn’t use that negative feeder.
After you scan the slides onto the SD card you then connect to your computer and upload them. For speed, my computer is slow, I located the SD card on my computer then dragged the contents onto my desktop.
The instructions are in Chinglish so it takes some patience to sort it out, also realising that slides are ‘positives’ (duh) but once I got it I was away.
Top tip, it comes with a brush to clean the optic. when you do that make sure that the brush head is facing down, mine was facing up and I had a very panicky moment when it got stuck.
It was such a great project and I really enjoyed it.

I have used the scanner to digitise old Kodachrome slides. The image quality is surprisingly good provided the contrast of the originals is not too great. Detail on my 27″ Mac screen is very good.

I am very pleased so far but found the instruction manual confusing, especially how to select negatives or slides for scanning. The unit defaults to negatives each time you switch on. Each scan takes only a second or so it is easy to feed through lots of slides in a session.

It took me a while to figure out how to use this but once I did it was quick and easy. I bough it it digitise some family slides and it is the job really well. Next job is digitising negatives.

I bought this little scanner to transfer slides, some over forty years old, to my laptop. The instructions provided are very sparse but it was easy to work out how to use the device so I cannot comment on tech support as I did not use it. The colour balance is very good and I was able to work through the hundreds of slides quickly and easily. Good value for money. I would buy again and would recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 78 From Our UsersChina can make first class optical and digital apparatus (for example I own an excellent Chinese microscope) but this item is not in that category. I might call it cheap and cheerful, except that at about 70 it is not really cheap for what it produces. It is perfectly satisfactory for reproducing holiday photos from old slides, but the contrast is very high, the colours unsubtle and the result will need some adjustment in an app like PhotoShop. I bought the device to replace a flat bed scanner with slide attachment that had gone wrong. This item does not compare, but there really is nothing else, apart from professional kit, on the market.
It is easy to use even if it does not have the feel of a quality product. It offers two levels of resolution, but I cannot see the difference in the resultant images. It has the advantage that images can be downloaded to SD card, which is essential if you are using Linux rather than Windows or Apple.
If the build were more solid or the price less I could give it 5 stars.

The trader answered my questions quickly, before the sale. Delivery was quick. For slides mounted in cardboard, or some plastic mounts, this worked a treat, changing to the next slide with a quick in/out mechanism. With some thinner or thicker mounts it was a pain, as each one had to be guided in carefully. It worked well with strips of negatives too. The quality was not bad, considering the age of the originals. It is important to keep the inside glass clean (with the brush provided) else you end up with the same dust marks on every copy.

This little negative/film scanner is awesome. I found a box of old black and while 35 mm negatives that belonged to my dad and this gem of a machine made quick work of getting them scanned and into my computer. It even comes with a brush (really a padded wand) to clean your negatives first. I also scanned some unmounted color 35 mm slides. They came out great as well as could be expected as they have deteriorated a bit over the years. This scanner is tiny but packs a big punch. Thank you very much.

DO NOT buy a 64 GB SD card as Amazon recommends in their “buy together” recommendation. I had to buy another 32 GB card to get the device to work and it tells you not to use greater than 32 GB on the quick start menu they give you. I found the menus a bit tricky to negotiate but my eyesight is poor. I eventually managed to get my 50 year old transparencies onto my computer okay.

This film and slide scanner does what it says on the tin, but it took a long time to set up. The manual is dreadful in the old-fashioned bad-translation sort of way and it ought to be updated if future sales projections justify the task. I bought a new SD-VS card in order to store a lot of images, but then found that the unit registered ‘Card Error’ and would not accept high-capacity ‘SD-HS’ or ‘SD-XS’ cards – only the old, plain ‘SD’ ones. However, now that I have got the hang of it, I shall press on.

Golden Review Award: 55 From Our UsersOn the plus side, it’s very easy to set up and a 32Gb SD card will store thousands of images. The scanning is very quick, even on the 10mp setting. The hopper-style slide feeder is quick and possibly better than the 4-slide tray but some thicker slide mounts can jam the slot.
On the negative side the images are not always sharp and it struggles with underexposed slides. It’s very contrasty too so quite a lot of detail can become obscured. Using a photoshop-style programme can rescue some detail but it then takes time that you thought buying this would save.
In conclusion, if you simply want to store and save your old slides/negatives and pin-sharp quality and colour accuracy isn’t your aim then this item is great.
However, if you want to capture accurate details and colour from your old slides, I would recommend looking for a more “professional” item that scans at a higher pixel rate and comes with a decent photo enhancement software package.

Nothing to dislike. Mind you, my recently discovered slides (48 years old) of an Australian outback road trip, came up pretty good considering their age. They survived being submerged in a river in North West Australia in 1971when I lost most of my printsI was quite pleased at being able to transfer them to my computer. Not sure how the kit would cope with more recent slides that had not suffered similarly as I have very little experience with this method. The kit did far better than I expected to be honest……

It is easy to use and I have photoshop which can help to recover some of the original features.

I have found this item to be easy to use but have found that some of my early plastic slides with small lugs on , wont work in the Rapid Feeder and jam up, but to get around this the Positive slide holder can be used. It would be better with a 10 slide holder instead of just a 4 slide holder. On the whole I have found this scanner to be vert good for the price.

Golden Review Award: 122 From Our UsersThe scanner is fairly easy to use even though the instructions are in Chinglish but I got there in the end. The multi feed device is great on Paper Card mounted slides but the slot on the slider mechanism is too narrow for Plastic Mounted slides. The latter do however do fit in the 4 slide holder which slows down the overall process of scanning a box of slides.
Once scanned the JPEG files can be edited on my Windows 10 PC. As all the slides scan in landscape you need to rotate them in the PC if they were taken in portrait if you want to create a slide show. When saved to an SD card they can be viwed on most wide screen TV’s that can access an SD card either directly or via a USB adaptor. Each time you switch the scanner on and start scanning it resets the file numbering system to 0001 so I have found you need to ensure you create new folders to store them in or change the individual photo file numbers once they are captured. Overall the pictures have turned out accectable for slides taken in the 1960’s/70’s when colour itself was in its infancy.

I bought this to replace one that only worked with Windows Vista. Was particularly pleased that it had a rapid feeder where you can load quite a few slides at once. Unfortunately this is not working. When you use the slider to view a slide it just slides over the top of the slide and is in danger of jamming. However the 4 slide loader works well and I like the fact that you can rotate the slides and adjust the light/dark before scanning the slide. Just make sure that you use the cleaning brush to remove any dust from the viewer on a regular basis. I also used a dry anti-static cloth to wipe the slides before inserting them in the scanner. This made a big difference to the results which I am pleased with. I’ve not tried the 35mm film scanner yet, but I’m sure this will work OK.

I purchased this to convert my late dad’s slide collection so mom could see them again. It comes with a rack to hold four slides at a time and a slide stacker for those slightly thinner mounts. It also has a rack to use to scan 35mm negatives as well. Scans directly onto an SD card

The technique for using this is simply check the size of the mounts and use the relevant feeder, line the slide up the viewscreen, check the brightness, press copy and move on to the next one.

No issues at all and mom is delighted with the results. The only tip I would give is when copying a slide, it can be advisable to do a couple of copies with differing brightness settings to ensure you get it right. Saves going back to it again if the results aren’t quite right.

All in all, an excellent piece of kit which I highly recommend.

Simple and fast, good quality slides give excellent results. My slides were from mid 70s to 90s and happy with results.
Some of the thin slide mounts do cause a problem with speed loader but it is just as easy to load separately.
As this review is based on viewing on 49in 4k tv the results are easily good enough for sharing via social media.
Haven’t printed any so no idea how large you could get away with.

Golden Review Award: 40 From Our UsersI had a scanner from a few years ago I finally got around to using and was less than impressed with the quality. I thought something more up to date would give a better resolution and decided to try this scanner. It is very easy to set up and use. I have only used it for slides so far, the fast-loader was rubbish – pushing slides on top of one another instead of pushing them out. Switching to the single slide loader was quick and simple to use. The resolution isn’t amazing but the clarity and colour balance is much improved on the previous model. The scanner allows slides and photos to be easily shared around the family so everyone can enjoy dodgy 70’s polyester and glaring carpet and curtains!

Golden Review Award: 51 From Our UsersGives a reasonable scan to SD card, could not get it to work direct to computer. Only some makes of slide mounts fit into the multiple slide fitting, worked OK with the one where you put 4 into individual parts of slide but needs to be done standing flat on a table as flexes and doesn’t seem likely to last long. Colours of slides when data is viewed on screen are washed out compared to original slide – presumably a function of the scanning to the SD card. Considering how colours are not as good when printing from computer to printer this is probably OK for just seeing a few photos in solid form, but if you want a decent print from a slide I think the high street is your best bet.

Having seen this shoebox of important slides on a shelf since 1987 the time had finally come to digitise them but cheaply. This product meets both requirements amply. Bit of a frustration that I couldn’t save direct to laptop/cloud from it despite being USB powered. Likewise the slide feed did tend to jam quite a bit – but that might depend on the brand of slide mount as much as the product. I really bought this for a one-time use but will gladly be sharing it with friends.

Found scanner easy to use and then download pictures to a computer. Had to store scanned images onto SD Card first, which I can use when downloading images. The main problem is that the SD Card could not be used in the computer, as the computer did not recognise the format of the SD Card (do not know whether I should have formatted card in the computer before using in the scanner). The digital images seemed reasonable representations of the original slides, but how good they are will depend on your preferences – have decided to leave no examples of my scans for reasons of copyrigh

I’ve tried a number of low cost scanners. Most require you to load a maximum of 4 slides in a rigid carrier — makes scanning a larger number of slides tedious and slow. The feed mechanism, which allows twice the number to simply be placed into a loading hopper is much less timewasting. Programming prior to scanning is tricky and not entirely intuitive — the first attempt produced negatives from the scanning! But now all is fairly sweet, and it will suffice for the immediate future. When I have a VERY large number of slides to scan, I will have to think of a much more costly solution with a higher level of automation.

I was able to transfer my old slides to a memory card that I could then insert in my laptop and upload the photos. This is exactly what I wanted to do and so the item works well.

It is not the smoothest and the slides stick sometimes but on the whole I am pleased with the results. It is worth noting that the majority of my slides are the cardboard framed ones. Great for scanning slides but auto- feed unit is a bit temperamental with different thickness of slide mounts, got stuck and/or would not feed the next slide. The only problem we initially has was with the recognition of our SD cards. We had to reformat them before the scanner recognised them. The bulk slide holder works well, most of the time, occasionally jamming but this is easily rectified by refilling the holder. The quality of the scan is acceptable considering the price of the scanner. We are pleased to have 100s of JPEGs which are more convenient to access than setting up our slide projector!

Like others I found the instruction about switching to negative, slide,b&w a little confusing but with perseverance its easy to work out. Overall pleased with quality and ease of use. I found it best to experiment with exposures on the scanner before deciding which setting was best for sending to computer. Very pleased with results. A most useful gadget.

I am using this product to convert film negatives to digital. It works reasonably well, but it am disappointed with the negative holder. The plastic hinges come apart too easily and almost every time I open it to put the next set of negatives in I have to put it together again. I have resorted to using the holder from a previous (VEHO) scanner which is much better.

Golden Review Award: 31 From Our UsersI preferred my old unit that transferred the image directly to the pc, the much larger image is easier to check the quality and make adjustments before saving, sadly it does not work on Windows 10, hence the purchase of this one. The unit is easy to set up and use, but it is very difficult to see the quality of the image on such a small screen, you do not notice any dust until you view it on a large screen, it’s then to late to rectify. I ended up cleaning the scanner every time, just to make sure. The size of the screen also affects how you perceive the brightness, although there is a wide range of resolution adjustment it is difficult to select the correct one, when you download the images some are excellent, other are poor. It’s difficult to recommend purchase or not because I have not got the means to test it against anything else.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI had got a lot of slides my dad had taken years ago and wanted to digitise them as most of them hadn’t been seen for decades. This is a nice wee bit of kit for the money. The Instructions are ok but I found I got into using it very quickly. So far been able to do a few hundred slides in acouple of hours. Quality is good for what it is. At the end of the day these are pictures, many of which are over 50 years old so reflect the camera quality of the time but I’m not a professional so as long as we can see them this is a perfectly good bit of kit. I’d certainly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 48 From Our UsersI had read the reviews of this scanner and decided to take the plunge as I have several thousand slides to work through. The scanner arrived ahead of the promised delivery date, which is always a good sign. The scanner is easy to use, but as other reviewers had indicated, the slider will stick when using the thicker slide casings. Cardboard and thinner plastic slides are not a problem and easy to run through the scanner. I have not attempted using the negatives yet, but the results for the 35mm colour slides have proven to be excellent as far as this user is concerned. All the slides used have been carefully stored away from light over the years and are in very good condition. So far these have produced very good reproductions suitable for displaying on an electronic photo frame or smartphone, and the family are delighted to see memories back on display. Yes, it isn’t the best for photo reproduction and the slider is prone to jamming, but overall it is great value for money.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersSaw this featured in December ComputerActive magazine – wanting something inexpensive to digitise several reels of 35mm slides thought I’d give it a go. Surprisingly it’s built quite well, but as expected the image quality is not studio level, then the price doesn’t suggest it would be. It’s easy to use but the connection to a computer has to be switched on and off between uploads – you can not view images on the PC screen until they are captured to an SD card (which you have to provide). The unit has a screen to preview before pushing the capture button, but it is easy to have a slide not quite aligned, so the captured image has a dark edge, but it’s easy to capture a replacement. Beware of dust and small hairs settling on the slide plate, they will spoil your captured image, but a felt ‘brush’ is provided with the unit. Check every ten or so slides. Overall though, I’m pleased and would recommend this item.

I needed something to scan in some old negatives that have been sat in a box for years. This machine is brilliant for quick scanning. All you need is a memory card. I scanned about 450 negatives and it took me approx 1hr and half. Slide the negative in, it brings the digital image up onto the screen, click the save button and it saves onto the memory card which is then very easy to put into laptop and view all photos or order prints. Just make sure you regularly use the screen duster as a lot of my images look quite dusty which I didn’t realise whilst scanning them.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersCheap(ish) and cheerful scanner – certainly does the job well enough for any of us amateurs who are just looking to digitise our slide collections, now our projectors & screens have long gone! Echoing some other reviews, the supplied instructions are quite poor, but once you get the gist of it, it’s quite intuitive to use, and actually easier than the instructions make it seem! The build quality isn’t amazing, and it doesn’t feel like it’s built to last forever, but once I’ve finished with my slides, I doubt I’ll ever use it again anyway…

In summary, it does the job and it’s affordable, and very competitive compared to professional slide-digitising services, especially if you have as many slides as I have! Not an item for professionals, but fine for those with modest expectations.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have had the facility for scanning slides and negatives into my computer as an attachment with my documents scanner for a long time. However, this device surprised me by how well it does the job so conveniently with quite a lot of useful software. Unfortunately it will not accept all my slides because some mounts are too thick for this device. My only complaint – I did not find the instructions very clear and had to find my own way quite a lot.

  75. Anonymous says:

The scanner works great. However, the Rapid Slide feeder only works with slides of a particular thickness. It was OK with some commercial slides like Kodak or Fuji, but didn’t allow thinner cardboard mounts or thicker Hammafix mounts, I had to use the positive slide holder for most of my slides. Hence the 4 stars, but still a good buy.

Golden Review Award: 151 From Our UsersI bought this for my old slides and coloured negatives and didn’t expect too much for the price. It is quite easy to set up if you read the instructions first and set the scanner for coloured slides, coloured film or black & white film first.

Would highly recommend, and would definitely buy again.

This is so easy to use and the results are pretty good. Obviously, the results depend on the quality of the original slides/negatives but generally the quality is good. The device saves straight to an SD Card which means it is stand-alone. For speed and acceptable quality I would recommend this copier.

Golden Review Award: 66 From Our UsersThis is a great scanner for converting slides into jpeg files for viewing / storing on a computer. I’ve got an Epson full size scanner which can scan slides but the process of loading the slides is quite fiddly and time consuming.
For amateur 35mm slides, this scanner is ideal since the slides can be stacked in the tray and each slide only takes about 1 – 2 seconds to scan with the sliding tray arrangement being very efficient. With a bit of practice a box of 36 slides can be scanned in less than 5 minutes.
A few reviewers have given adverse comments on the instruction manual and it’s true that it’s not that brilliant. However the menu system is quite simple so, although an OAP, I managed to work out how to use it in a few minutes. The main thing to note is that you have to scan the slides or film to an SD card (not supplied) and then transfer the images as a separate operation. I use a MAC and when I connected the scanner, it recognised the SD card in the scanner as an external drive without any driver or setting up being required. Its then a matter of copying them in the same way as with a memory stick or any other external source. I purchased a 16GB card (approx 7) and with each standard resolution scanned image being about 1MB this card will hold around 16,000 pictures! On a test print on photo paper the 1MB image on A4 is perfectly acceptable. Once the images are scanned into the computer they can be manipulated in the same manner as any other image using photo processing software.
I haven’t tried the scanner with colour or B&W negative film so can’t comment on that facility but for old 35mm slides this scanner a fast and effective way of creating digital files from them.

It works very well. You can connect it to the TV and see your negatives and slides with the option to put them into colour mode to see what a photo would look like. The screen on the device is ok but rather small. You can connect the device to a TV, computer and even a mobile. Phone, but only by cable, there is no wireless connection. My dad is in his 70’s and recently lost his wife, my mum, and he likes to put photos of her on the device and make digital copies for putting on his phone so he always has pictures of her. For this it works amazingly, thank you!

Very quick and efficient at scanning slides and negatives onto a memory card and then transferring to a PC. Quality largely depends on the slides rather than the scanner. There is an exposure adjuster on the screen but quite difficult to make fine adjustments. A finer adjustment can be brought up on the screen but not with the picture. Overall a very useful bit of kit at a good price.

I bought this to transfer about 300 old slides onto my iMac. I had read both Good and bad reviews but thought for the price I would give it a try. Glad that I did. Very easy to switch between colour reversal and negative and very easy to transfer to an SD card. The slides were about 50 to 60 years old and had deteriorated over the years but they came out OK. Using an SD card to transfer them also meant no problem with software. I know there are better ones out there but for the money I am very pleased.

Golden Review Award: 150 From Our UsersAbsolutely 100% excellent for me.
I had 10 reels each containing approx 150 x 35ml slides, all at least 35 years old and all been in store all this time in the original cardboard boxes & somewhat not ideal conditions. I was recommended a slide scanner to my iPhone but the results were so poor that I nearly threw the whole lot away, but then I saw on the Amazon site, a recommendation for this product. I was drawn in by the description of it being a stand alone product scanning onto SD card. I am so glad I made the purchase. I found the product so easy to use & the one question I had about 5m – v – 10m was promptly answered by some very helpful people. I am delighted with this product.

Golden Review Award: 149 From Our UsersVery pleased with this item. I have scanned 1500 colour slides so far. It’s reasonably quick and does a good job. The ability to vary exposure is useful as many older slides become overexposed as they get older. It did exactly what I wanted it for and is good value. Some very old slides were slightly oversize to fit in the feed device, but a light trim with scissors resolved the issue. Scanning individual bare film is a little more time consuming, but achieves great results. Impressive bit of kit for the money.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersPleasantly surprised with this. I bought it to digitise my old slide collection and didn’t have terribly high expectations given the price. However, it’s simple to use and, viewed on a large screen TV the results are really pretty good. I haven’t looked closely at the scans on a decent monitor yet, or tried to manipulate them but for casual showing to friends and family it’s fine.
The bulk slide loader is frustrating in that it jams easily but it’s also easy to unblock. I scanned some 400 slides in a few hours then watched them by directly connecting the scanner via USB to my PS4. Simples and no extra power supply needed.
The LCD screen is basic and low Res but the fact that the scanner does not need to be connected to a PC is a great benefit.
This is not a scanner for the enthusiast but for digitising those old slides or 35mm film negs ( though I have not tried that yet ) it does a decent job.

Golden Review Award: 344 From Our UsersProduct does exactly what it says & excellent assistance and customer service from the seller!

I spent time reading people’s reviews and even asking questions about a couple of different devices before selecting this one. I initially had some difficulties totally due to my own misunderstanding that the product requires an SD card to operate you can not simply plug in the usb lead to computer and scan/view/save to computer you need to do this to the SD card and then connect and view on the pc.
I received EXCELLENT and speedy responses from Sonya when I contacted the seller and resolved this issue.

I scanned close to 1000 images from slides and a few from negatives. I was very satisfied with the functioning of the device, it’s ease of use (once I understood my misconception), and the quality of the digital images. I would note the quality was entirely dependent on the quality of the image on the slides as I found varying degrees of quality in the images I was working with. Also I had some ‘issues’ with some of the square slides as they didn’t fit properly in the slider and the images were cropped but they are probably the wrong size for this machine. Also some slides were thicker and again didn’t slide using the feeder attachment but could be put through using the other attachments they were just a bit more time consuming.

This item was purchased to be used to convert old family slides etc to digital as a surprise birthday present, it was so successful the device is now on lone to other members of the family in order for them to convert theirs. We are very happy with the results and price of this device.

If you have various sized slides, or varying thicknesses check that before you buy this one. If you want more fancy options for the software then spend more on a device that has those options.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThe scanner is good but the user manual is rubbish. It only tells one how to load the slides, which is obvious when you look at the parts. It does not explain how to change from a negative image to a positive image. I spent a very frustrating time finding out how by trial and error. The manual says ” follow the menu instructions” but there are no real instructions. The manufacturer should try co-ordinated thinking and write a proper manual.

Golden Review Award: 171 From Our UsersHave now scanned about 400 slides. It took a while to get familiar with the controls but scans quickly a gives a good quality result. There have been a few problems with feeding the slides into the scanner. Firstly the slide feeder would not go into the slot. Suddenly it did go in but I do not know what the problem was. I have been using the “Rapid slide feeder” which for most slides works very well and saves having to load 4 slides into the loader which must take longer. Sometimes the slides do stick or jam. Mainly this has been with slides with cardboard frames ( probably will be Ok with the manual feeder) but it sometimes happens with plastic. Also when feeding the slide into the scanner it needs to be done slowly and smoothly otherwise the slide tends to go in too far and is not in the correct position. Generally happy with the scanner though and looking forward to scanning a large collection of slides.

Golden Review Award: 138 From Our UsersI had approximately 300-350 family slides in my attic which I wanted to copy to my computer. This little scanner did the job admirably. It was delivered in a secure package and was very easy to assemble and use, it only takes seconds to scan individual slides. On the computer the photos where clear and brought back some happy memories of our children growing up. The overall quality obviously depends on the quality of the original slides and these can easily cleaned up and modified on the PC using editing programmes. On the high street I was quoted 200 to copy my slides, this unit is excellent value.

Golden Review Award: 104 From Our UsersA pretty smart little machine.
I’ve had trouble with negatives in that often the colour is not right, but realistically I’m not sure you would expect fantastic quality from a negative without the proper developing process? As for slides – absolutely brilliant. I’ve been working my way through my dad’s old slides and copying them to digital format. The fact that you can pop a memory card into this little machine so you don’t have to be tied to your laptop is fantastic.
There are adapters for different size slides which is great, as the ones I am working through are all different sizes. Has not failed on any of the sizes.
One of the adapters allows you to pile the slides up in in and then click through and save each picture. I would say you can probably fit about 15 slides in at a time, whereas it is four or six in the other adapters and each one is placed in its own little space so takes a bit more time.
Picture quality is really good, when you consider than some of the slides are 60 or 70 years old.
Customer service is slightly poor – I got an email through obviously to prompt a good review but when I asked a question about the settings the reply I basically got was ‘if you have any problems then send it back to Amazon’. I think the sender was probably outside of the UK so there may have been a slight language problem. However, I worked the settings out for myself and all was great.
Got this on a lighting deal so really pleased, but not 100% sure I would have paid the full price.
