This is a nice looking fire and the opti-mist effect is brilliant, as other reviewers have mentioned the build quality could be better and it drinks water like a fish.
Overall I’m pleased with the fire, although it’s not cheap.

    Pleasing appearance

Looks just like the real thing and makes the room cosy with just the light effect which is why we bought it, Heater noisy and ok to add heat quickly to the room and thermostat effective. Remote not working at a distance, need to be close to fire.

Looks great fire – flame effect is really good- easy to operate- can hear fan but not intrusive – remote control receiver is in the wrong place behind part of the door so you need to manoeuvre round it but overall love i

The fire in its heating ability and control of room temperature perfect no complaints. The remote is okay but if there is any noise in the living room i.e. tv sound it is hard to tell if you have 1 kw or 2kw set on the fire when using the remote. Suggest the audible bleep could be a bit louder or add an LED indicator flashing so you can see what setting you have done from a distance. Also I now know that adding a 1 litre of water to the tank almost ever day when in use on cold winter evenings you end up with excessive condensation around your home you never had before. its just like having a pan of boiling water on a stove without the cooker hood extractor switched on. I am presently working on being able to have the log lights on without the use of the water mist to kid the system everything is okay to put the lights on.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersHad this fire a couple of days now, and over all it’s really good but there’s a couple of minor niggles that I have with it that’s stopping me giving it 5 stars.

*With the heat on, the fan noise is pretty noticeable – not ideal when watching TV but it’s not ‘too’ bad – just need to turn the TV volume up more than usual.
*For a (rrp) 500+ fire, there’s more plastic involved than I’d have liked. The main case is metal and decent quality, but the door is plastic and feels cheap (although ‘looks’ decent) and the remote plastic has that really lightweight made in china feel to it.
*The remote only works at very precise angles, so can’t use it from our sitting positions, have to get up and walk over to be in front of fire, another minor niggle.

Like I say, none of those are big problems, just for the price of the fire I’d have preferred a bit higher quality material were used in those areas.

The positives far outweigh those niggles anyway, the flame effect is brilliant and it already fooled my mother in law who asked if it was a real fire when she saw it running.

    Recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have my fire on almost all day every day in the winter months as I am a therapist and work from home in a draughty house. Lots of my clients have commented on how lovely it is and many have been surprised the flames are not real. It has a slight noise but not enough to bother my work and is much quieter than my old electric heater. The only downside is that my remote control stopped working after only a couple of days. That aside, I love it and whilst I think it is quite expensive for what it is, if I could afford it I would buy another one for another room.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAlthough the log assembly arrived in many pieces, Dimplex replaced it without question, arriving in two days.
The fire itself is excellent with the Opti-Myst feature being exceptional, providing a fine focal point and plenty of heat. The half-heat setting has proved to be very adequate for these milder days. I am awaiting the arrival of really cold N.E winds to really test the fire. The room has large picture windows facing N.E. and was a severe test for a gas fire as most of the warmth that provided, went straight up the flue.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI bought one of these for my dad two years ago so giving it a considered review. The first unit arrived with a broken insert but Amazon sorted it out pretty well. My dad had been used to an open fire and enjoys the wood burning stove in our house so was anxious to get something that was easy to use.

Long story short. He loves it. He does have to fill it with water every other day but despite his advanced years does it without difficulty. He gets a great kick out of been able to start it with a very simple and big button remote control and enjoys both the very real looking flame and the heat. He has it on all the time during the winter when he watches tv and gets great pleasure out of the visual look of the unit.

It is a multiple of the cost of other fires but my experience of other fires which say have revolving plates is that they are very unrealistic and this unit is far more real.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersGorgeous real looking stove fire. If your looking for A real looking fire with good heat output then this has to be the one u go for. Easy to put together altho the bulbs can be a little tricky but it took longer to unpack it than it did to put it together. Looks extra special with the flu and slate hearth. The glass does get a little foggy when on full blaze but I guess it all adds to the effect. I also like the full glass door which doesn’t obscure the flame effect. Definitely recommend! I luv it!

Used the dimple as a substitute for an old leaky gas fire.
The remote is awkward to use as the sensor on the fire can be hidden by the fretwork on the door. Just a matter of finding the right spot to trigger the remote. Though it means arm can end up in a strange position.

I am so happy with this fire. I have it for sometime now. Delivery was perfect. Nothing was missing. My Niece put it together for me so no problems there. The flame is so realistic. I light Westwick candle next to it so it sounds like the fire is crackling with the wood. Highly recommend to buy.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThe original stove arrived with broken logs, I think the box should be clearly labelled ‘fragile for transit’ as a lot of reviews have commented about this happening. There are no complaints about the product itself, easy to assemble & looks great placed in the bedroom fireplace, very relaxing & cosy. We ordered the faux flue too so it looks more authentic. Easy to fill up the water tank from the water filter jug we have. So far so good!

The flue pipe was 19 from B & Q a lot cheaper than dimplex, very easy to fit. The water tank is easy to fill and lasts about three/four nights. Looking forward to seeing it at Christmas with garland on fireplace etc. Very cosy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBrilliant wee fire. Did a lot of research before buying it and considered all models and other makes. I’m so glad I bought this one. It looks real as other people have stated. I bought the pipe for added authenticity and everyone has been fooled into thinking it’s a real stove. Was simple enough to set up and I had it unpacked and up n running within 10mins. I will probably only use it lit up for aesthetic purposes, although the heat option is handy. The only very very small picky gripe I have is I can sometimes hear the water gurgling into the chamber that turns it to steam. It’s faint, but I can hear it. I may also add that I bought this fire through the Amazon warehouse and secured it for 50 less than normal due to some small mark on it… that for the life of me I can’t find! So it’s a very happy purchase. Would defo recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI previously owned an electric stove, it was cheap and cheerful and did the job. I hadn’t seen a Dimplex Opti-Myst stove until recently, and when I did then I was sold. I bought a Dimplex Gosford GS 020 here from the Amazon Warehouse. It was a “used like new” offer with a significant discount from the new price. Delivery was very fast, just two days and it appeared at my door. Setting up was a little more complicated than expected. It isn’t quite plug and go as advertised. First unpack carefully and make sure everything is intact and present. Place the stove in a suitable position allowing sufficient ventilation. Dimplex provide excellent instructions with diagrams which I found very helpful. After about 30 minutes I was done, the reservoir, water tank, bulbs and optimist transducer all fitted. Switch on and the flame effect is simply amazing and very convincing. I did however have a few issues to solve. As said previously, I bought a used item, and whilst overall it was in very good condition and “like new” as described it did have a minor problem with the stove door which at first would not close correctly. The membrane behind the glass was not seated correctly but I soon put it in the correct position. I also noticed the plastic log tray provided was broken. Actually only the base was in one piece with the logs that sit on top in pieces. It spoilt the desired flame effect:( but one short friendly phone call to Dimplex Customer Care, and a replacement log tray was sent just two days later. Very impressive service and a big thank you to Michelle.

The instructions says to use filtered water only, also to clean the internals every two weeks which as others have commented is bit of a faff. I live in a hard water area so I have decided to use a mixture of filtered with distilled water to keep the solution as “soft” possible. For reasons I am not aware apparently pure distilled water should not be used? So anyway, I am very pleased with this stove. It looks great, it has the most convincing realistic flame effect I have ever seen and the 1 or 2 Kw electric fan heating it provides whilst won’t be used very often (we have gas fired central heating) it will come in handy on those few very cold winter days we get. I forgot to mention the remote control which simple to use, smart and effective. One button controls the heating, one the flame effect and between them is a third button that switches the stove in stand by mode.

In my opinion the Opti-Myst range whilst they are expensive are well worth the money . If you seek a simpler option with less faff and maintenance then you might want to look at the less expensive Opti-Flame models. Either way you will be pleased I am sure. Dimplex Opti-Myst Stove, Black

EDIT: I have owned my Opti Myst fire for almost one year and everything is still working perfectly indeed nothing has failed. I read a number of negative reviews here complaining about poor longevity of components; replacing the water tank, bulbs, or the transducer on a regular basis. I surmise this is the result of poor maintenance and/or not reading the instructions. You do need to take care of this fire and that can be a faff at times but it’s the price we pay for the realistic flame effect. So, don’t over tighten the water tank cap. Always use filtered water. Do clean the components every two weeks and never leave the transducer in standing water for an extended period. If the fire will not be used for a while, then drain down the water and leave the transducer dry. There was another negative review commenting that LED bulbs are not fitted. Whilst LED bulbs would indeed use less electricity, It is my understanding that the heat from the Halogen bulbs is required for the flame effect. If you don’t want all the maintenance, then consider the cheaper alternatives. Some look very good but none compare with the realism of the Optimyst fires.

Excellent fire. Heat output is fine but we purchased it for flame effect anyway, which is extremely realistic.. Remote has to be quite close to get it to work. The whole lot nearly went back as ‘not working correctly’ as I was originally convinced the remote only switched it off. Controls are not as intuitive as you might like. Condensation can be controlled by switching down flame effect but, all in all, I think we will get pleasure from this fire for many years to come!.

Easy to set up although take care to put the log tray on with the slit opening towards the back of the fire or the smoke cannot work. I found this out by experience.
Yes you can hear the fan heater when it’s on but it’s quite low and voices, music, tv, traffic etc will make it less than in a silent room.

Would be viable alternative to real wood burner (except no smell, but also no need to open up chimney!) for a small/medium fireplace. Golden Review Award: 42 From Our UsersWe had originally wanted a real log burning stove, but it was not possible, given the difficulty of installing a chimney. We wanted it primarily as a focal point, but also to provide heat.
Instead, we sent for this Dimplex stove.
The stove is quite heavy – as a log burner should be – and was easily assembled.
When the reservoir has been filled and the stove turned on, the effect is very realistic. Visitors are mesmerised by the flames as they would have been with a real stove.
The advantage of the Dimplex stove is that, besides filling the reservoir with filtered water, it has no requirement for maintenance. It can also be turned on, and off, in an instant using the remote control.
The stove itself is really excellent, but it does lack credibility in two areas: it needs a hearth, and it needs a chimney.
Both are available from Dimplex and they are absolutely worth the money.
Even the family dog gets fooled – and there’s no chance of her burning her nose on the glass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and convincing focal point for a room.

Brilliant and convincing focal point for a room.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersDidn’t buy from here but just wanted to say how amazing this fire is. We have always preferred gas fires because of the effect but the layout of our new house prevented us from having one because we couldn’t place it anywhere for the flue. So we settled for a LED one and were never happy. For us, this is better than the gas fires. You can have the effect without the heat (the gas fires always got too hot so we had to decide on whether we had the effect and roasted or no effect and were comfortable). This solved that issue.

Only had it a few days so can’t tell you the long term functionality but another customer in the store said he had one and he had to replace parts but that’s because he didn’t clean the water tank. Instructions say to clean out every 2 weeks and in his case it was accurate. It lasted 2 years but the limescale build up clogged systems up. But I believe Dimplex were good about replacing it.

Anyway – we love this. Definitely worth the money and so easy to set up!

This fire exceeded expectations. It really is realistic and very quiet when the heat is switched on. Easy to operate and maintain I would definitely recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersIncredible electric fire. I love my stove. Even though it’s July I’ve had it on every night just to watch the flames. This is unlike any electric fire you’ve ever seen. I purchased the hearth and stove pipe too.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersVery pleased with our purchase. Looks as realistic as you could hope for. Window has some condensation if opti-mist is on high but clears away very quickly if the door is left open a little for a minute or two. It’s not a problem.

I love this fire,, it looks so good, and is very rialistic and as far as we can see there is no cosmetic damage,(as it was bought at a reduced price), so very happy with the value and the price we paid.

Ordered this stove from France as not available here. First stove didn’t arrive, I contacted Amazon after the date that it should have been delivered and they immediately sent out a replacement which arrived within four days – thanks Amazon.
Stove not yet in situe but tried it out to make sure it works. Found the bulbs a bit difficult to insert but otherwise the assembly was OK.
Flame effect is as expected, we would prefer it if we could use the fan heater independently of the flame effect, but the fire will make a cleaner replacement for a log insert. Did notice a slight noise with the fan, and a dripping sound, but still quieter than the turbo fans on existing fire.

Golden Review Award: 78 From Our UsersGot one of these a week ago, massive improvement over my last Dimplex fire, which had opti flame technology, Opti myst takes it to a whole new level, combined this with a plastic stove pipe from B&Q and almost looks like a real log burner.

Seen various complaints on reviews regarding condensation, we have had no issues although we keep the flame on the lowest level as it looks more realistic on that setting.

Also seen complaints regarding the routine cleaning, again this has been no problem and takes a couple of minutes every couple of weeks. This is an expensive fire but is a fantastic focal point in any living room and is worth every penny, I haven’t even mentioned the thermostat controlled heater element of this fire, very warm and quickly heats up our living room although we usually only use the flame effect.

    Fantastic fire

Golden Review Award: 54 From Our UsersWhat can I say but WOW! This fire has exceeded my expectations in every way. Setting it up is not too difficult if you read the instructions well. I filled the water tank once and it lasted for five hours on full “flame”. The fire shuts off when the water tank is empty , just lift out the log bed, remove the water tank, fill with filtered water, pop it back in, and switch fire back on. All in it took about one minute to have fire back on again! Effortless compared to the attention a real wood burner requires. Any condensation disappears if you leave the door open slightly for a minute or two. I had my doubts about how effective this would be as a substitute wood burner and I can honestly that I think it is the “bees knees”! Wish I could have one in every room! The quality of build is excellent and I think the pleasure it will bring is worth every spent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classy, comforting & convincing!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI love this fire. So realistic and despite what other people say it’s not a problem filling up the water container – takes 2 minutes, if that. A lot less time than building up a real fire! If i have one small niggle it’s that the door steams up when the fire is working. However, I just leave the door ajar a little and it disappears. Doesn’t detract from the whole effect.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersWow. This fire is amazing. Arrived super fast and was so easy to put together. The hardest part was getting it out the box. The only reason for that was so I was so excited and too stubborn to wait for help but I did it eventually. It’s the closest you will ever get to having a real fire. There is no sound and the effect is mesmerising. I would definitely recommend this fire and getting some money off by ordering from Amazon made it all the bette
