I prefer larger stones, I bought this as a backup. It still works very well. If you like DMT stones, you already know what you are buying. I've been using DMT for about 30 years and I'm 'branded' to their stones.

I've been using waterstones for a long time now. Finally got fed up with the setup and mess. These diamond plates sharpen my tools as fast or even faster with almost no set up time and no messy water and slurry dripping all over my work area. If it is a pain to sharpen your tools, you won't sharpen them. Period. These plates are so easy to use I have no excuse to keep using dull tools. Just put the plates on a towel, spray some water from a spray bottle, and go to it. No need to soak the stones, flatten the stones, clean up the mess, etc, etc. My chisels and plane irons have never been in better condition.

Just a dab of water and you can sharpen any knife to a fine edge! heck it will shave the hair off your forearm after just a few passes. I still use a wet stone but this diamond sharpener is just excellent! I even sharpen my chisels with this diamond sharpener....

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI found having both the course and fine stones necessary to do a good job. The raised bench really helps to hold the blade at a proper angle. You still need to use good technique, but I have found these stones irreplaceable for sharpening my good stainless steel knives that I could not touch with a regular whetstone. I also bought an extra-fine diamond stone, but not sure it adds much to the finish. But the course stone is really needed to get the initial edge. It is very difficult to do it with just the fine stone.

    Great produc
This replaced a Duosharpplus Bench Stone Extra Fine from another seller who did not include the base. I bought it as a gift for my Daughter. I have had one of these DuoSharpPlus bench stones for about 20 years and mine still works great. It keeps my decades old chef knives razor sharp. Hopefully this one will last as well for my Daughter.

With all the newer and harder knife steels out today this combo will take care of them all. Put's on a good working edge without any trouble. You can continue with finer grit stones if you are looking for a polished edge. Using this combo followed by a strop is all you need for a EDC (every day carry) or that utility knife in the kitchen.

I’ve had smaller pocket size stones and hones galore. Nothing compares to a proper bench sized unit - like this one! I considered classic Arkansas whetstone etc etc, but ultimately decided to go “high tech” with the diamond abrasives. I look forward to adding other grits for courser/finer work.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Userspretty good, but needs another plate.
Product was pretty good, until it peeled very slightly from one of the holes. it was very slight, less than one of the circles on the plate. DMT, help me replace this quickly, and thus greatly appreciated, the plates were very good for restoring several chisels & plane irons. the blue side cut pretty well then red side to hone and sharpen it.
The red side is pretty good and could get the blades sharp enough to cut hair off your arm.

I think though if you want to get things even sharper, its better to also get the next very fine as well. I plan on making that a purchase later since i’ve had pretty good results so far.

This is so much better than using a whetstone that gets dished out every time you scrape something across it. QC has been an issue with some other DMT stones, but this one has been great. A pink eraser works well for cleaning up the stone when it gets messy.

I have sharpen knives (Of all types) for over 55 years. This is to include scissors and fine knives. As someone who knows the ins and outs of sharpening, the DMT 8″ is all the stone one would need. I think it works best with water. This gives a relief of friction. The base is very solid. I put it on my wooden bench. I highly recommend this fine tool.

By far the best knife sharpener I have ever owned. Used a traditional stone & oil for years, but the coarse / fine sides make it a snap. The only thing I wish they’d include would be a 20° wedge guide, but I made one from a piece of scrap wood. It works for everything from my hatchet to my Becker Campanion to my son’s small folding pocket knife to the chef knives in the kitchen. I highly recommend.

I'm a furniture maker and use my chisels and planes quite a bit. I've used whetstones, oilstones, diamond sharpeners, etc. None of them have given me an edge as razor sharp and consistently perfect as this one, AND I can easily rinse it off with water when finished. I bought mine a few months ago and spent an entire day meticulously sharpening edges and flattening the soles of my handplanes, zero complaints and I'll probably add another grit selection in the future.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersSehr schnelle Lieferung, günstigster Preis, gute Anleitung auf youtube

Geht flux. Also Kauftipp.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI've got about 10 sharpening stones, and this is the best so far. Its big enough for chef knives, as well as small blades like paring knives. I like a sharp knife, and this is doing the job. I had an electric sharpener that worked great, but I gave it to my daughter once I got this sharpener. 5 strokes on one side, 5 strokes on the other, and the knife is ready for use. I've only used the fine side on the sharpener, but I like that it has a coarse side just in case. It doesn't slide on the kitchen counter when used -- this is a good thing. I like it and am happy I bought it -- I"m kind of a tight wad with money, and at first I thought it was overpriced, but after using, I think it was priced OK.

Puts a nice edge on my kitchen and camping knives. I used to use traditional Japanese whetstones, but whetstones are very high maintenance (i.e. require flattening/re-leveling, submerging in water before use, drying after use) and were more manually intensive (i.e. more passes or strokes) to achieve the same sharpness. With this DMT diamond bench stone, I can restore the edges to my knives much more easily and conveniently, and it takes much less effort to achieve the same or better result. Some might disagree, but I don't know why I tortured myself for so many years using traditional whetstones.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDMT diamond plates are fantastic. I have the fine/super fine and just got the course/fine. They make very quick work of resharpening an edge. The fine/super fine are great for edge maintenance; about 10 swipes on so either side and a strop and your blade should be shaving sharp. The course is great for establishing a bevel. I also use these for sharpening plane irons and it does a fantastic job on those as well as knives.

Very happy with this sharpener. I use the coarse side to flatten my whet stones, the Japanese man made ones anyway. Flat, and fast cutting as advertised. Also I like the continuous strip at the bottom, use it for points and small tools.

Have been using this mostly to keep a draw knife sharp during heavy use. Has been working very well. Was worried about the base a bit but no movement or rocking with a very heavy hand-forged tool. I appreciate the handle on the bottom, I use it to work on the bevel side.

Also, the coarse side is not as coarse as you would expect, if you want to remove a lot of material (to form a primary bevel for instance), get something coarser or use something else. Definitely designed for pre-finishing.

and with steady hands and a bit of practice easy, way to fix or set an edge
I bought this with a course/medium stone. You have to be a bit careful with the coarse stones, they’ll chew metal away faster than you think.

That said, it’s a very fast, and with steady hands and a bit of practice easy, way to fix or set an edge. I used it on one of my older kitchen knives; much faster for fixing an edge than my water stones, though I still used the water stones once the edge was set to get an almost mirror-smooth edge.

I would probably get a 6″ one, knowing what I do now. The 8″ works fine, but can be a bit unweildy and the extra space isn’t really useful for even my 7″ chef’s knife.

    grob=45Mikron/ 325Mesh/ P320/ F235/ J360
    fein=25Mikron /600Mesh/ P600/ F340/ J650
    extra fein=9Mikron/ 1200Mesh/ P2500/ F700/ J2000

-> 5x drber ziehen pro Messerseite Krnung Extra Fein = 10 Zge
-> 5x pro Seite Abziehen auf dem Lederriemen mit Polierpaste = 10 Zge
Messer rasiert innerhalb von 5 Minuten.

Der DMT erhlt meine absolute Empfehlung. Schnell, einfach, sicher.

I bought this after seeing a demonstration sharpening down at Woodcraft. I sometimes regret not getting the longer one but this sharpener works great for my chisels and such. According to Jerry at Woodcraft, the diamonds stay sharp forever. I also use it to polish my plane soles and to touch up my Starret square faces. The fine side really polishes metal well. A quality tool.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersDMT Makes the Best Diamond Sharpening Stones
I really, REALLY enjoy sharpening my knives on this.

The Blue course / Red fine are really more like a medium and a medium fine. If I could have gone back I would have tried to get a Black (extra course) and Red (fine).

The base works well and will stick to a table even if the table is covered in water from sharpening. (push the base into the ta+ble and move it around a bit. This particular stone with the holes in between the diamond impregnated steel is better for larger knives, and is not quite as good for chisels on a honing guide. The continuous diamond zone can be good for finish chisels but is harder to fully sharpen them quickly.

After buying my first DMT stone, I bought 3 more and a portable one, and never went back to india stones or aluminum oxide, etc.

Just fantastic! I have about a dozen knives to keep sharp in the restaurant, all different sizes, weights, and grades of steel. With this I can get to them all once or twice a week to keep them in good shape. Not quite razor sharp but certainly a good edge for what we need. With a little extra time I've managed to bring a couple of the knives to a very keen edge. What I like best about this is how easy it is to use. Splash a little water on in, sit down with a knife and in 3 to 5 minutes I've got a good edge again. I bought an angle guide to use with it but after some practice I've found it's not that hard to keep a consistent angle freehand, so never use the guide ( which didn't really work that well with the longer knives )

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had a smaller DMT sharpening stone for 10+ years but sharpening kitchen knives on it was a bit of a hassle, due to its small size. This larger sharpening stone with two different grits is a really economical and efficient tool. It will quickly remove metal down to the angle you are sharpening at and then after removing two plastic clips the stone comes loose can be flipped, locked back in place with the clips and the edge can be refined with the finer grit side. The large size allows for a large area of contact and allows you to work on a larger portion of a blade at a time. Plus, it is easier to keep the two pieces at a consistent angle when they are larger. Would definitely purchase. again.

Great sharpener. It is super simple to use and is incredibly flat. Just a little bit of water and the occasional wipe down to remove the leavings and you can sharpen forever. I used it with the Robert Larson 800-1800 Honing Guide to completely rework 4 old chisels and my block plane. The combination resulted in better than new tools.

The only warning I’d give is that the “coarse” side is slow at removing a large amount of material. So reworking an entire face (like I had to do with the chisels and plane iron) will take some time and elbow grease. But it’s a good workout.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersQuick and reliable way to get all your knives sharp.
Purchased the Fine / Coarse DuoSharp about a year ago and it’s all I use on my kitchen and fixed blade knives. I also bought DMT’s extra fine stone which I finish off with a strop to get the hair splitting edge.

The base is a smart, efficient design and it securely holds the diamond stones in place. The rubber feet keep the base from moving and 8″ surface is ideal for large kitchen knives. Ever since I showed the wife how to maintain the edges, I haven’t needed to use the coarse side of the stones for a while. Properly maintaining your knives is crucial.

I have had friends that brought me completely dull knives and had to use the coarse side to help hone the edge profile quicker before I went to the finer grits.

Spraying the diamond stones with a little water provided me with better results and also helps me keep the surface clean.

Overall, I’m very happy with this set and I get quick, reliable results every time. Sharp knife = happy wife.

The quality and surface area of this stone enable me to take a large kitchen knife from dull to sharp in under 5 minutes with very little effort. It does wonders for woodworking tools too. An excellent investment in a quality product.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersFantastic Bang for Buck. Does the job of much higher grit waterstones, with a lot less hassle.
In short: I had to use a diamond stone to flatten my water stones, so why not use diamond stones for the entirety of my honing process? After a lot of reading on what grit of DMT stone I needed to mirror my old waterstone process, I finally settled on this as the centerpiece of my workflow. And I couldn’t be happier. The results I get equal my previous waterstone set-up, and I spend a lot less time and hassle getting there.

I highly recommend buying this set-up, in addition to a DMT course stone. With those 3 grits, and a honing strop, you’ll easily equal a 10k+ waterstone produced edge and spend a lot less time re-setting bevels, or removing large imperfections.
