That’s NOT to say it is poor quality, just that inevitably, anything plastic, submitted to temperature extremes over months/years will eventually break. ‘Sooner’ with two large pups crashing through it hundreds of times a day! Good that Petmate have not changed the size and design over the years making like-for-like replacement a comparative doddle.

A Medium Dog Mate flap was installed in the back door when I bought my house. After over 15 years of use, it was still in perfect working order.

It’s well made and strong. I live in valley where its raining all the time and very windy and there’s no leaks or drafts and the magnet is strong enough to hold back the wind
On the inside it comes with a panel to attach at night and it’s very soild and fits securely and is easy to put on and off
As soon as this dog flap was fitted our terrier was using it as though he had never come in and out any other way! Now we don’t need to remember to let him out for a pee – he just goes in and out whenever he likes even at night time. Flap is not noisy and has a small magnetic strip at the bottom so the flap stops to shut easily.
Much better looking than ones we have had previously and good value. Unfortunately our dogs are not clever enough to jump through it, but as with our last one, we just hook the flap up on the outside so it’s permanently open when we go out, and they jump through fine!
Replaced our old cat/dog flap and fitted exactly. Only downside you need to hacksaw screws to size and that was impossible. Had to buy new screws

This is the second one we have had as we have just had a replacement door installed and it does the job we want it to do. There are two options, open in both directions or closed. It is a perfect size for both our Cocker Spaniel and cats.

This is the 2nd flap, I replaced the first as the roof smashed through it when it had the closer on and one of our visitors got her excited and she smashed in and broke the door in 2. I put a piece of thin ply over it and used it for about 30 months.
We have just done up the kitchen so got a new one, it looks great, was just a simple job to swap out and is working very nicely. I won’t use the closing cover till next summer, if at all, so she won’t be breaking this door anytime soon.
So far so good! It is much better than my previous one. No draught anymore!!
Great dog flap, no problem for our Dalmatian jack Russell cross to use. This has a slightly bigger opening than some other medium sized flaps, check the messements you need, also this has one flap swinging both ways as other have two and makes opening smaller.
Brilliant. Occasionally sticks open if there is a strong wind and the dog has just come in but apart from that it gives the dog freedom to come and go to the garden. Lockable so good if you are out or away. Would always have one now even if I move house!

I bought this dog door for my Jack Russell. It arrived very quickly. Very good quality. The flap is much bigger than the one it has replaced (which was a different make) and which was always blowing open when it was windy outside. I find this one stands it’s ground so no draft comes in…bonus.. The flap is also much, much quieter to the last one (almost silent). Me and my dog are very happy with this dog door and highly recommend both Seller and the Dog Mate dog door.

Any bright ideas, anyone? We have tried bundling her through with copious treats, but left to her own devices, when outside, she will stand by the flap and woof until the footman (me…) lets her in.
So, the product is excellent, the dog is not… If you have the sort of hound that will quite happily run head-first into things to see if they move, then you should be on a winner. I’m not.
Despite other reviews this is easy to fit although I find it best to use a little mastic to fix the lining
bit tricky to fit as our backdoor isn’t flat but the puppies immediatly got the hang of it. Had thought it had a lock to close but you simply slide in a solid white cover which clicks into place
Previously had a version which would always fly open in strong winds. This one could do too, but it comes with a security flap which can be inserted to make it secure when away on holidays (or when there’s a strong wind).

This flap is worth every penny didn’t take long to train our puppy to use it. Had it put in professionally. Magnet is a good idea to stop the draft when winter comes.
Its a good dog flap and suits its purpose. However, I would have liked the internal side strips to be white not grey!
Took my whippet pup a while to get the confidence to push the flap open but he has got it now and its a real asset.
Really good strong dog door. Husband installed it with help from curious puppy. Looks smart. Didn’t take much to encourage the pup to use it, just one on each side of closed door with biscuits. Easy to secure at night to prevent unwanted cats etc. flap does blow open in very high winds though. Have bought another for new outer porch which should sort the problem.

Bought this for an interior door for our Westie puppy who we are toilet training as it is cold to leave the back door open so put this on an interior door so he can come and go as he pleases (I personally do not think it is secure to use on an exterior door). The dog uses the door quite easily – yes was unsure at first and the way we encouraged him to use the door was a person standing with treats either side of the door and encouraging him through! Luckily my toddler hasn’t decided to use the flap yet but there’s still time (he sits one side of the door looking through at the dog the other side lol!)
As other reviewers say, this really is quiet in use. We got a new door, and the flap replaced a Staywell one which made a serious racket and blew open in a light wind. To date this one hasn’t blown open. The magnet seems much stronger and holds it properly shut. It does have to be put in exactly vertically or the brushes catch on the side, but once right, there’s minimal draft and no noise worth mentioning in operation. Definitely worth paying a bit more for it, and it comes with all the fittings required and a liner for the hole.
For my cocker spaniel ( note the small version was too small, and he’s lower than knee height!). Sturdy, easy to fit but do read instructions. Been using it for 6 months now and he flies through it with some force but it looks good as new – would recommend.
This purchase is to replace the Dog Mate Medium door we purchased 14 years ago….so an excellent product… We foster small dogs here in Spain so the door gets heavy usage although I must admit that we wedge the flap up in the warm weathe

Great product only reservation was the silly plastic bolt covers which could not be hammered into the holes where the bolts go through.

Ideal for our small-medium sized dog. Now he can easily come and go out as he pleases. We’ll have to find a way of warning him when we put the cover in place and he’s still outside and tries to come in – Ouch!
Bloody excellent dog door we had a dog door nightmare and had to change another one for this I made a slight upgrade and bought some will balancing weights and stuck them on the flap near the magnetic social three has some serious strong winds here and it has never opened and there are to mosquitoes drafts get this dog it really is the bes

This door has been an invaluable addition for our pet miniature poodle. It was straightforward to fit and has been durable in use. Only strong winds cause the magnetic strip to fail but the inner door cover provided solves this.
I’ve had this dog door before and its very good, just moved house and needed a new one – good strong construction and ideal for dogs that are not too “graceful”, mines a Staffy about the size of a Springer and gives the door quite a bashing at times and the old one survived very well so ‘Im expecting the new one to be as good. Delivery was very quick, would recommend you to buy.
This is a good, no nonsense product. Easy to use. The flap is on the outside, so no water gets trapped in the door’s cavity. It locks securely with a separate blanking panel.
Took a bit of time to fit , but does the job.
I like this. it is well made and as yet no draughts, but yet have to endure the winter. It is quite large, my 7 year old son has no trouble climbing through! It has a quiet movement too which is a bonus.
We would be lost without this. It gives our cocker spaniel unlimited access to our secure back garden, he even pos out at night if he needs to. Very robust he comes back in like a rocket….. but the funniest thing is when he stands looking out of it to check the weather.
Could not be without it and am recommending to everyone.

Got this for my Staffordshire bull-terrier. She’s quite small so this wouldn’t suit a male; go for the next size up.
I got this fitted by a joiner but he only charged me forty quid for the fitting. Took a few minutes to train my dog how to use it and now she can dash in and out of the garden whenever she likes.
The swinging door has magnets so it closes automatically and doesn’t let draughts through even on very windy days.
The door flap was easy to fit and a good size as discribed in advert very pleased indeed been in use now for two months without problems
Bought this for fitting into new door as a replacment for another make, this one does not blow open in the wind. does not look likely to snap (as the other 3 have) the dog did not think much of it at first but she is ok with it now. don’t know how easy to fit it is as i got the door fitters do it, but it certainly makes the house a whole lot warmer.
My Shih tzu loves this door. So far it is standing up to his high speed exits and entries. One problem though, it does sometimes need to be manually closed but I think this may be attributed to the REALLY bad weather we have had recently.
And with this winter’s weather it was certainly put to the test so if it is available in the size you require go ahead and buy.
Oh and I forgot to add it is practically silent.

My last flap broke and I wanted a flap big enough for my terrier to be able to use as well as the cats. Love the design of this one with the detachable inner door which can be used to prevent the pets getting out. It’s also good because during high winds the flap remains secure and closed. My previous flap used to open in the wind.
I bought this item to replace a smaller cat flap which my 2 dogs had broken. It was a little troublesome to fit, but it works really well, my dogs can use it with ease. I would use this seller agai
although it does not state that it can be used on double glazed doors this one does but the glaziers charge the earth to fit them the glass and the labour cost 280
We bought two of these for our Terrier pup and she took to them straight away and now we don’t have to keep opening doors for her every time she wants to go out she just bounds through two doors into the garden!!! There isn’t a locking mechanism on them but they do have a slide in door which effectively blocks off access to unwanted ‘visits’ at night! I recommend!
Got it very quickly, my husband fitted it very easily. My dog will not go throught the flap (he is 2years old and very nervous rescue dog) so at the moment it is rigged up where the flap is open with a bit of string so he can go in and out while we are at home..and he is happy with that..one day he will use it properly i am sure..
I got someone else to fit it as it needed quite a lot doing to the door to make it fit. But now it looks fine and works well.
Bought as required a replacement flap for our petmate dog door which had chipped and broken in the corners leaving two big holes!
I wasn’t able to just replace the flap though as the new one is slightly bigger than its predecessor, so had to replace the whole unit. This was also slightly larger so had to fiddle about putting new screw holes in.
The dogs appreciate my efforts though as now their sleeping quarters are draught free as the holes are gone and the new magnetic strip is much stronger than the old one keeping the flap in place during windy weather. Overall I’m glad I spent the time to replace it.
The door is a great size for my border terrier to hurtle through…and soundless too.

Good, solid door that looks sturdy enough to last for several years. Need a little DIY expertise to fit and preferably the right tools (which i didnt have). Magnet very strong so took a few days before my 9 month old pup managed it but he now barges through at top speed! Cat will go out through it but refuses to use the tradesman entrance to come back in. A good buy and would recommend.
Works perfectly well, in my case for a working cocker spaniel. The dog loves it and it means we don’t need to open the door every so often. The flap closes tightly, the frame fits well on the door, and the whole assembly is strongly built, which is just as well as the dog literally runs through it! Very happy with this product.
Never having used a dog door before, my ten year old medium-sized dog has taken to it and uses it. The slide in panel means you can block the flap when needed.
Took ‘Eddie’ just an hour to love this door. He hits it’s with such force when he spots a cat at the end of the garden and it just takes the beating without complaint.

Not at all noisy, even in very high winds here on the sea front. Very rarely any draught. Easy for my jack russell to use and neat looking.
I found this easy to fit, even though the instructions are poor. Have not had it long enough to test its long term durability.
Good product, well worth the money. My dog is forever flying in and out and it just seems to take whatever he throws at it – the previous one lasted over 8 years of constant punishment.
That said, it is very fiddly to install without an extra pair of hands.
