Having recently purchased a switch, I bought this game as im a fan of the older platform games. I have mario deluxe also which is great, but DK is alot better – its a pleasure to play, challenging in parts yes but a lot more forgiving than the older games.
The animations and boss fights in this game are just so beautifully put together, so vibrant and engaging to play. Im having a blast playing it very good fun – highly recommend especially if youre a fan of platform games.
I played this with my son. I used to love Donkey Kong Country on the SNES back in the day and this brought back so many memories. I love riding the mine carts and jumping about on a rhino. Classic. It’s pretty tricky but worth the effort.
Given as a Christmas gift. My sons loves this game.

I liked the game in general good for the whole family.
Mini masterpiece platformer. One level in the middle was so beautifully realized I nearly shed a tear with how great it was – the music and the art direction were just sublime.
One point to note is that it may be too difficult for kids. It is as difficult as the hardest of NES/SNES games.
This was one of my daughter’s Christmas presents. She(12) and her brother(17) both enjoy this game.

Great game. First few levels break you in nice and easy. Then the difficulty does increase quite a bit.
There is an option to play as a special character that makes the game much easier if you wish.
Overall a very good game. If you played and liked Mario Bros U deluxe and liked it, then you will love this too.

first game i purchased with my Monster hunter switch and i think i be played it more than MH, it’s such an amazing game and the difficulty brings you back all the time with frustration and it makes you want to beat it even more.

This is one side scroller that basically defines this category of such games. The smallest of details and 2d/2.5 d art style will win you over. This game clearly shows developers have taken quiet some time designing it.

Vraiment trop cool. Le mode 2 joueurs est veaiment facile d’accs a des joueurs novices comme nous. On y prend got trs rapidement. On a hsit avec Mario Bross et au final la nouveaut nous a appel. Not nearly as good as any Mario game, but uses the exact same format. Nice levels and designs etc. but the speed at which you have to move around doesn’t allow for appreciation of these. 6 very short levels.
Arrived on time. Packaged well. entertainment during a pandemic is pricey but at least I didn’t have to leave the house for it.

A very enjoyable game but not exactly worth the price for a six year old port of a Wii U game
Probably the best pure platformer on the Switch and beyond. The level design, the music, the characters are painstakingly crafted here. Need to spend an hour somewhere? Play this and 3 hours have passed away just like that.
This is a Switch must-have, alongside BotW and Odyssey.
Its a good game that been released over and over again, but remains fun. The game is a timeless classic and I’m happy to have it in my collection. I do find it odd that it automatically puts you on easy mode rather than classic mode, but no biggy. I actually prefer this to Mario as its a bit more tricky and keeps you engaged. I am playing it 2 player (joycons) with my girlfriend and we are really enjoying it.
It’s a great game to play whenever because you can pick it up and quit at any time.

Donkey Kong is a wonderful platformer for all ages. The gameplay is fluid and fun, and grows on you. The different worlds, designed painstakingly, look awesome.

Very easy to play game and reminds me of the old monkey Kong, it a bit over priced but all games are these days
Now, I haven’t played it with Funky Kong which is a playable character on the Switch version and it would be equivalent to an “easy mode”, but I can say the game is quite challenging to the point that sometimes becomes very frustrating. Although the gameplay is alright, it doesn’t have the fluidity and momentum the original trilogy was very well known for. For a casual gamer, it can be stressing and might put you off a bit.
The soundtrack was composed by the Master David Wise, so, it’s really good, although lacks a bit of that emotional melancholic tone the first two DK games had, still, works and an overall mood setter for all the different islands and story.
Overall is an excellent game with incredible graphics and really good animation, it sure lives up to the legacy and improves upon it.

So in short, it’s a good game but rather hard. I think that a game like mario oddysee may be more child friendly for younger children.
Great game. Has lots of challenge but feels rewarding, even in the Funky Kong mode. Enough levels to get you going, although need to definitely stock up on the balloons when you have the chance!

Great for my 7 year old son. Very fun and also has “funky mode”, this makes the game easier for younger kids, which is great for my son as he gets grumpy when he gets stuck on a game.
Bought the for my 5yr old and ended up playing it more than he did. Really ingenious levels, good music and graphics. Well worth the money!

I wasn’t expecting too much from this but I am surprised by how deviously intricate and cleverly designed the levels are, I haven’t found all the puzzle pieces in one level yet and would bet you won’t find all the collectibles in one level in a single playthrough. It is a 2D side scrolling platformer with 3D environments and it is a seriously gorgeous looking game (As most if not all Nintendo developed games are) and also with probably all Nintendo developed games this title is utterly charming, no other Games Developer/Company can do what Nintendo does.
As you Jump and Roll your way through the beautiful levels you find yourself getting into the DK Bongo and Pan Pipe music, you will return to levels multiple times in an attempt to try and find all of the hidden secrets, very taken with this Game, fun and enjoyable and would strongly recommend.

DKC: TF is an exceptional 2D platformer. It’s clear to see from the first level that much more time and love has been put into it than, say, the New Super Mario Bros. series, in my opinion. The environment breathes around you and it’s a great challenge for any skill level.
My criticism is that this game was released on the Wii U in February 2014. It’s nearly four and a half years old, and for such minimal additions on the Switch I think the price tag is a complete insult. The game is very good, but like the Switch and many Wii U ports, it’s very overpriced.

My 3 year old is switch crazy- so I bought this for him an my husband to play together- I just figured it would be a good game for them to play- especially as its marked as PEGI 3
But wow we underestimated how hard this game would be!! I figured since he’s played Mario odyssey this game would be a doddle for him- I couldn’t have been more wrong!!

Controversial I know, but I’ve had way more fun with DK than Mario on the Switch. As a fan of the original SNES series, Tropical Freeze feels like its refined, next generation evolution. The visuals are beautiful and unique to each stage, with even minor detail like the hair on Donkey King’s character model standing out. I originally played this handheld, however it really comes to life on the big screen in 60FPS. I rank David Wise’s original soundtrack as the best on the SNES but he’s truly surpassed himself with this. A 2.75D platforming masterpiece
Love it brought back memories from playing the Nintendo with the kids when they were young
Fabulous game and the funky mode means you can get further if your not very good, highly recommended.
This is one of the best designed platformers you will ever play. Despite feeling an uncertainty about playing a non RARE-produced DK game, Nintendo have take the formula from the classic series and upped it, massively. The levels flow, all meticulously crafted to keep you on your toes. Each obstacle you overcome, you’re confronted with another one, from collapsing floors, escaping erupting volcanoes to timing jumps right so you can float in the air while massive horns blare. It’s the ultimate non-stop McGuffin!
The difficulty is also spot on. You will lose lives. A lot. But the frustration keeps you going until you can push on, with an upbeat soundtrack and bright colours so you don’t lose your temper. For young children, it’s great (try the Funky Mode), and for adults, the urge to complete the game 100% and uncovering every secret will give you hours of joy alike.

Don’t get me started, Tropical Freeze has by far one of the most impressive soundtracks I have heard in a video game for years I don’t know what it is that Nintendo does but they just get video games like this right.
Gameplay is fluid and smooth and you can really get the hang of the game pretty quick, but don’t be fooled this game is no joke and it does get demanding with its difficulty you won’t breeze this game on normal mode BUT in that regard as you can see on the cover Nintendo have added something called FUNKY MODE where you play as Funky instead of Donkey Kong, Funky has more health and abilities which makes the game alot easier to run through which is great if you want a quick game for a short time or if you have kids who want a bit more of a more forgiving game.
Adding to the experience is collecting all of the K.O.N.G letters and Pieces of a puzzle to unlock collectables which really adds reason to go back and replay levels as I have countless times. There is also local multiplayer if you want to play with a friend which is where you play through the same game but as separate character I’ve given it a go and it can be pretty enjoyable but it’s definitely not the centre of attention but it’s there if you want it.
Visually the game looks STUNNING! Running at a full 720p on handheld and 1080p on a TV this game looks beautiful and I mean that. Stunning colour and crisp textures for a switch game course this world feels alive!!
Honestly just going off what I’ve written so far there is no reason why you shouldn’t have already ordered this game. If you haven’t experienced this game then you really have to.

Amazing game never had a wii u so its all new to me . One of the best platformers ever made each level feels like a whole team made it. the music is done by series veteran David wise and is incredible . Its honestly perfect.
The switch version has 1080p visuals at 60 frames and half the loading times of the wii u version and all new funky kong mode who is awesome and makes things easier for the casual gamer or youngsters. Well worth every penny
DK controls amazingly in this game. Very responsive as you traverse through these deceptively tricky stages that are so well crafted, and so beautiful to look at.
Set pieces are plenty and all are accompanied by wonderful scores of music,both remix’s of classics and new tracks to get you immersed in this world.
Their are 3 other kongs to find as you play and each can change the way you play as well as help find all the secrets a stage has to offer. Finding all the KONG letters in every stage of every island will reward you with a challenging level even the most hardcore of gamers without ever feeling unfair. Though they are optional and not needed to finish the main game.
This is a hard game and if you’d like an “easier” time then the new funky long mode is what you need.
It doesn’t make the game too easy as levels are identical but gives you more health and tricks to avoid death. Though he cannot partner up with the other kongs.
Speaking of the other kongs you can have a player 2 join at any time which is great and is just the cherry on the cake of this fabulous game.
Yes this has very little changed from the wii u version which you can pick up cheaper. But if you’ve not played this and want a wonderfully crafted, bouncy,fun and challenging experience I can think of no better game for this genre on the switch.
