I’ve wanted a Dremel for a very long time and finally got one and I love it. A bit confusing about uses of chucks at first but once that was over there was no problem and I have used it successfully for many jobs already, with many more in the pipeline. The only thing that bugs me is that battery life isn’t great. I’d like to see a battery cage that allows mains operation?
Good tool but very pricy for what it is and the competition is getting ever closer to this standard.
I have had several multi tools my first 30 years ago corded that still works but worn . Two more recent cheaper versions than the dremel , both cut out often and once they do they cut out again within seconds . The dremel doesn’t and with the 12v batteries last long enough for most jobs or more . So many attachments can be added as you need them . It’s all quality I would buy agai
Been a very useful tool while building my campervan and with my stained glass work. Sometimes I have to experiment to find the right attachment for the job, so worth having a variety handy.
Dremel quality and design – excellent.
Very convenient and the battery lasts a reasonable amount of time.
Complements my corded Dremel.
While the drill has a decent amount of power, some of the tools are a bit weedy for normal DIY. That said, its a great tool for those fiddly grinding/cuttings things you sometimes have to do to bodge things.
Simple tool fitting and I like the light.
if you’ve had one you know how good these are, I’ve been boring a friends for years so couldn’t keep taking the piss so bought one.. I’ve just cut the bolts off a CV joint on a classic car which were seized, cut through them with easy and the small size made it easy
I received this gift for my Xmas . I just love it . Easily held in the hand and being a battery operated Dremel no cord gets in the way .
Also I have several attachments which can be easily fitted for use. Such a handy tool to have around .
Yet to use this, but lots of accessories, robust case and a good feel to i
Fantastic tool. Far better than the mains version. Very versatile and suprisingly light for the power it has. Excellent value on Amazon, saved over 30 compared to shops.
I’ve only used it to sand away jbweld to free somwonthing but its working great. Goes very fast and is simple and light to use. Would reccomend
How did I ever do without one. A great tool and a good price Every workshop needs one
Its good but i should have gone for the electric instead of battery…bought 3 batteries so could have one charging whilst using other two…I still run the 3 batteries down before wanting to finish -but im not going to be buying any more batteries!!…will be cool for camping / taking with on adventure…depends what you want to use it for?! ..the tool loses power gradually then stops rather than stops when cant go the speed you stuck it on -i dont realise its slowed down until its stopped (and wondered why it wasnt working as well?)..you put new battery in and its like a new machine! (Bit like changing from used sandpaper to new sandpaper?)…I still like the tool- ill probably end up buying a mains one too!…just thought id suggest you take an extra second to decide if you want battery powered or mains thats all.
Bought to replace a very old cordless Dremel which I can no longer buy replacement batteries for.
This is an excellent up to date cordless replacement which I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone.

Love this tool. Just makes life so much easier for sanding, cutting drilling etc.
ice tool cordless but for the price could comes with more accesories.
Bought for cleaning small parts on works machines. Works well. Holds charge and good selection of accessories
Awesome bit of kit!
So versatile and well made. Dont waste money on other lesser brands !
Will cut through a padlock with ease. Nips nails and screw heads off in seconds.
Ive mainly bought it forits cuttin ability, but its nice to know its on the tool shelf for geinding, sanding and engraving aswell.
bought something that didn’t fit. So it sat under the stairs taking up space. Bought clamps and brackets to make it fit but they didn’t fit either. So I bought a Dremel a name used for that kind of tool. All the stuff now fits snug. Yep a chunk of money but read too many reviews of something that didn’t fit so they sent it back. Uses elongated filofax holes brackets polishing key cutting. needs a spare battery and I got some tungsten carbide bits that are beefy. oh yeah great for indoor fireworks.
I got this on amazon deals for very good money and I’m really surprised how strong and power is. When u need to cut something it tiny space when you can’t reach with anything else this is the best one.
I have bought similar one but different make and it didn’t last more than 3 uses. This one cut’s wood, metal, plastic etc. It polishes and removes rust. Very versatile unit. Absolutely love it.
This is a fantastic dremel the battery last a good day of getting bits done Ide say about 1. 5 hours of constant use. It’s well made but get the engraving extension as it’s a little heavy even with the attachment after a few mins.
It charges super fast and comes with a small pack of bits which are not sufficient I Deffo need some cutting carving bits
All in all I’m very impressed for 95quid!
Been after one of these for a while. Does a great job with the cutting tool, nice selection of accessories, worth the cash outlay.
Purchased to remove burnt on detritus on my oven shelves. Tried the polishing brushes with zero effect. Purchased some wire brushes which have not used yet. I’ll report back when the oven is due for a clean in a couple of weeks time! Did use one of the little cutter discs to do a bit of tree pruning on a tricky to reach branch I could not access with a traditional saw or pruning shears!

It lives up to its reputation, a powerful hand-held device with a wide range of options
Well when it came to purchasing this “gem” I was unsure….will I every use it? will it make me a better D.I.Y.er. Well obviously I succumbed to its purchase or i wouldn’t be reviewing it… Answers are yes and no…..so far I’ve done some fancy sanding ( some would say ” call that fancy” ) on a bird table, and garden chairs and attempted to sharpen the lawn mower blade….i find when I’m doing a job I don’t always have the correct tools ( a bad tradesman always blames his / her tools)…well I’m not a tradesman/Woman so that’s ok. I think it one of those tools that will be indispensable. Being cordless makes it very portable and it feels like it is indestructible…..had a little scare when the lights stared flashing and it kept cutting out….it needed charging as I used it straight out of the box for a while….phewww..
So I like it and it’s a great addition to the garage shelf….let’s hope it enjoys many more “outings”.
As always dremel provide great quality that will last. Plenty of a accessories!
Brilliant bit of kit, a must have in the tool box
The Dremel name suggests quality, and the 8220 does not let them down.
As soon as it arrived I put the 8220 to use , it coped really well with all tasks required of it.
The battery lasts for a good length of time, and recharges quickly.
The tools supplied with it are of good quality, and lasted well.
This was purchased as a replacement for a cheaper cordless rotary tool that had given up halfway through a project. The 8220 cost twice as much as the other tool, but you get more power more reliability better quality, I wish I’d bought this first, it would have saved me money if I had.
Great product. Can take it anywhere without a pesky cable to plug in.
I use this for sharpening tools and fixes on small equipment. Battery life is excellent, power very good too, no dips. The light on the front helps a lot with fine detail work.
The little precision handle is something that I can not praise enough, also the battery is powerful enough and lasts – around 4h of continuous work (1/3 power, 1/2 at times, some light work mainly)
My husband loves this, I lost him in the garage for ages. Very sturdy and easy to use.
jobs will get easy with Dremel 8220 Cordless Rotary Tool 12V, Rotary Multi Tool Kit with 2 Attachments 45 Accessories, Front when i have the time with
A bit bigger than 3expected, but does what’s needed and more
Cheaper tools do the job, they are just not Dremel though.
Hubby says this is such a handy tool for lots of things.
Nice tool for those small jobs. A bit on the pricey side.
This is a nice kit. Could of come with another battery tho.
Great piece of kit to have for small jobs round the house. Great price when bought in the Black Friday deal.
Bought on good offer – quality piece of kit at good price.
Husband very happy Christmas gift. If he’s happy I’m happy
A great tool totally needed when printing on 3D. Battery lasts long. Better buy complementary complements as the one included might not suffice. I bought another 150 and now the set is very complete. Different speeds.
The Dremel has been great for jobs around the house. I had some bathroom tiles come loose. I was able to use the Dremel to remove and clean the tiles, before sticking back in place.
The cordless dremel is a very pleasing tool for delicate work. I have been using it to clean excess material when repairing cracked/chipped ceramics. A perfect tool for the job.
Amazing. Really easy to use and has a plethora of attachments to use that let you have one tool instead of several. If the Kenwood Chef is the one-tool-fits all of the kitchen, this is the one to look out for in the garage.
This was a gift for my daughter as I have one myself, she wanted one. I love my dremel but the instructions leave a lot to be desired for a novice. Still with the help of youtube I managed to use mine for various projects.
Kit is OK and Dremel works and is quite well balanced at High RPM. It is quite a bit larger larger than I thought (actually larger than my mains driven Dremel). I have no doubt it is powerful enough for larger jobs but would have a preferred a smaller more manageable tool for delicate work. Otherwise OK. Acceptable but not great value.
Will cut through anything, great for getting into tight areas and the battery life is great.
Very pleased so far with the 8220, seems powerful enough for standard use. For extended jobs I’d probably stick with a 3000. Going from 300/3000, I find the separate on-off switch from speed selection is very nice too.
I went for the 45 piece kit partly because of a deal, partly because it included the LED light, and I couldn’t source this on its own anywhere. Aaaaand… its utter crap. A really bad design, reminds me of how things used to be designed in the pre-internet days before reviews encouraged ‘ease of use’ improvements.
This LED light is bad, and the main reason for my review. It’s held together by a single screw held in by a washer. If this screw is tight, the on-off switch is often too stiff to move. If the screw isn’t too tight the light sometimes goes off when the dremel is in use, or if the end cap is tight. The on-off switch is activated by a tatty blue plastic slider that latches roughly onto a toggle switch, and is quite hard to line up when reassembling. When unscrewing the cover (required to replace batteries) the screw pushes the main light away from the cover, leaving the screw extended in the cover. It should be unwound (as picture) to stand any chance of lining the slider up with the switch and switch hole.
The battery compartment is just the gap between the board and a contact, and I think it is this which lets one battery move when the screw is too tight and makes the light fail. There is nothing to hold the batteries in place except the cover that seems to flex sometimes. The whole design is just tenth rate.
The other tools are well known to me and mostly work very well, loses a star for the horrendous light.

I have 3 Dremels but they are all corded so now can use this one without having to look for an electric plug
It is a really well made piece of kit:very impressed. I was amazed just how powerful it is and I would recommend that you practice before you begin serious work with it. The sanding cylinders are just amazing. Be warned if you haven’t had a practice and turn up the revs you will incur damage! The grinding/sharpening kit, which I purchased as an extra, is fabulous. I have allows found grinding wood chisels on a wheel tricky to say the least but the Dremel makes it so easy. Have a look on you tube for some handy tips. I am still exploring its use but I can say that it is one of the best power tools that I have purchased. I am a DIYer not a professional by the way.

finally bought the best.
easy to use straight out the box
Great cordless tool, very handy for multiple jobs, long battery life, quick charge & got it in the sale, amazing value.
Good tool, only used it for cutting the end of bolts, but plan to use it more.
I have been promising myself one of these for years but always seemed to get around the job some other way.
It is very good at allowing you to get into things where the manufacturer has sealed up as case so that you (the end user) cannot get in there thus repairs can be carried out and the case then resealed. One of the first uses I put it to was a jammed posi-drive screw. I just used the grinding blade to cut a slot and then a conventional screwdriver brought it out very easily. Literally two minutes.
Very pleased.
Used loads in converting my camper van, love the shape size and feel, the blade packs great too, wish I’d of gone for the full setup but this is great for getting started
First of all, the cordless tools are somewhat gutless compared to the wired tools. That’s why they don’t state a power rating.
I first borrowed a 3.7v tool and that was useless for most of the tasks I had.
I had high hopes for the 8v type, which I also borrowed, but that still couldn’t get all the jobs done.
Then came Prime day and I got this kit for a very reasonable 87.49.
It doesn’t have the power of the corded Dremel 4000, which I already own. I’m guessing that the power of the 8220 is about 100W (the 4000 is 175W), but if I’m up a ladder, I don’t want an extension lead, so I’d rather be cordless than have the extra power. There wasn’t a task that I had saved up that I couldn’t complete, including grinding out a hard knot in resin laden wood stair tread.
The carry case is the most important ‘accessory’, although I’m sure I can use the side grip and shaping platform. There was a good range of tools in the set including a speedclic mandrel and 5 wheels.
I recommend you buy the Dremel 4486 Keyless Chuck (ASIN: B0002SMMY2), so you don’t need to faff about with the ‘horrid little spanner’. The EZ twist nose is just not as easy.
The best thing about buying a Dremel, is that you know the Dremel accessories and tools will fit. The chuck mentioned above doesn’t fit any of the tools I borrowed.

How did I ever manage without one? really useful tool for so many jobs. My only complaint with all the Dremel products is the really poor instructions or total lack of instructions you get with all the attachments you can buy. Also not always easy to know which attachment will fit on your particular Dremmel…when I first bought this I had no idea some attachments would not work on this one so wasted some money. Would definitely recommend getting the quick change attachments as using the mini spanner to release the Chuck constantly becomes a pain, especially if like me you keep putting the spanner down and forget where! I’m sure it moves on it’s own……lol
Mistake. I’ve had two rotary tools . Both became tired after a while . Just received the Dremel , and wish I’d gotten one years ago great to work with in a box that in it’s self makes access easy and not having to wind a cable … Marvelous . Two batteries so don’t think I’ll ever run out of power and a keyless Chuck , magic .Mistake , not buying in the first place! Price is above most but no ozone smell in use no Sparks inside . It says good build and ease of use .
I could go on …. But if it wares out I will buy another DREMEL .
This item has a multitude of uses, and it takes a while to understand all it will do. It feels very well made and robust, and should be useful for many years to come.
This is a great versatile product with many useful accessories
Wonderful tool so versatile, using for my miniature wargaming hobby, tried other cheap makes, the Dremel is far superior in every way, my only disappointment is that the batteries are so expensive.
This is my forth dremel. The first one is still in use regularly, but this is my first cordless dremel.
I got this one so that I didn’t have to keep changing the bits from one to another and then back again.
You can’t fault any of the dremel tools, but I was very disappointed that there was NO storage box for this 8220 dremel.
i have bought other power tools for less than the price of this dremel, and nearly always had some sort of storage box.
Disappointed.
This Dremel is now my most used bit of kit that says it all
When I retired from dentistry I missed the apparatus that I had been able to use for intricate work. This fits the bill nicely, an improvement on dental equipment (although it might be difficult to use in a patient’s mouth!)
I would highly recommend buying the Dremel 2615448632 Keyless Quick Change Multi Tool Chuck 4486 as well, it is a lot easier to use and accepts shanks of different sizes.
I haven’t marked the battery life question as it has yet to require recharging 🙂
Bought as a gift for my partner and he says “it is a Dremel” speaks for itself, all good.
Small but has some real power there.
Very versatile I purchased this for a job I needed to do. I have used it every day for one thing or another to make my job easie
Love it, does so many things, it replaces a cheaper manufacturers product and is streets ahead.
I have no idea how I’m going to use this tool, but bought it on the recommendation of my daughter who is an artist and she knows I like to work with both wood and plastics.
i don’t know why i didn’t buy one of these years ago, i have always had corded dremels but this is way easier, i just got the basic set as i have a million accessories already. using it with the right angled head today and did a great job. just take that light thing off the front, its pretty useless and gets in the way, putting the batteries in the light was not straightforward and i could see many folk lose the head! not well designed and a bit of a gimmick. the only thing i thought could be improved is the speed slider, it feels very loose with almost no resistance, i thought i had a dodgy one but no that is the way they are. i tried the handle accessory and it did hold it but there was a bit of flexing, could do with a few more threads gripping it on. overall i would buy another and recommend it.

Dremel is the household name for these tools and this cordless model is pretty much the flagship. Does everything I want it to do. Weird thing is that it rotates anti-clockwise (when viewed from the chuck end) so, for a right handed user, it throws all the debris in your face. This seems to be a huge design fault that no one has ever commented on before. Surely not all Dremel users are left handed?
Brilliant bit of gear and very easy to use 5
Definitely recommend. And quick delivery. Thanks
Excellent piece of kit , handy being cordless , already have the mains version for use in the garage , but this is so useful to save on minor outdoor work , with extension leads etc , all in the past , this seems to just have as much power as the mains lead one , Great , Handy little tool .
I always prefer battery tools to wired as they are so much more flexible, despite what others have said I LOVE the case, I wish it had all the bits that comes with the wired special edition but I have added parts from my 240v to the case anyway. Only gets occasional use at home so I am still running on the first charge on my first battery, seems to last forever! Cool tool!
A Dremel is one of those items that, once you’ve had one, you find yourself not wanting to be without it. It’s really useful. The build quality could be better and the case clips are somewhat frustrating as they repeatedly fall off but the tool seems to work well and can be used to solve all sorts of DIY problems around the home.
Elle est sur batterie et c’est vraiment un plus. Il m’a fallut acheter un adapteur secteur par contre !
I had to replace an old multi tool after mice chewed through the lead in two places ( it wasn’t a Dremel ) and I tend to replace old tools with cordless when possible , very handy and powerful and is used mainly for sharpening stuff like lawnmower blades and other cutting like tools that I have also my neighbors bits as well , good quality as expected from Dremel and there are hundreds of bits available to buy from diy stores for any job
very good tool, comfortable feel to use, very well packed in sturdy case, use for mostly automotive use in garage, only minor niggle was getting the light to work.
Been wanting this for years but was always out of my price range until Amazo discounted it. Great produc
My partner and I have pretty much every tool under the sun. But, we didn’t have a Dremel.
I bought my partner this as a gift. He later admitted that when he first opened it, he wasn’t sure how much he would use it…HOWEVER he has since found he uses it for so many different things, absolutely brilliant.
If you are a DIY’er, engineer or wood/plastic/metal crafter or hobbyist…get a Dremel. Amazing piece of kit.
Bought this to tidy up a few of my own diy projects at home. Has brought a much needed quality look to my usual rough finish on everything.
I picked this up on ther recommendation of my father.
This tool is excellent and has made light work of many projects that would have needed a wider collection of tools and a lot of elbow grease. I have taken on restoring an old bike. This has helped me sand the awkward to reach and stubborn areas of paint, as well as cut off brazed on parts from the frame and grind them down flush.
I’ve found so many other uses for this and will adding to my collection of accessories and bits.
Having this tool will give you the confidence to undertake lots of jobs around the house!
I bought this tool to use in the dismantling of a classic Reliant Scimitar. Many nuts and bolts were rusted and needed cutting through, and several were impossible to reach with other cutting equipment. And you can’t use a blow lamp on a fibre-glass car. To be honest, I wasn’t sure whether the Dremel, with its tiny cutting discs, would be man enough for the job but it surprised me by cutting through quite substantial bolts with comparative ease. Having bought it for one specific purpose, I am now finding all sorts of other jobs for it. Delighted.
Fantastic bit of kit. Been after one of these for a while after borrowing one a few times so when I saw this cordless one on sale I leapt at the chance to get one. It’s surprising how often I found myself wanting to cut intricate or detailed holes in things
Does everything, Even the dogs like it (Drum sander for trimming nails)
Excellent product and great overall value given the range of accessories. Comes in a good quality case and has a second battery which is very helpful.
Absolutely love this rotary tool. As a dryliner I think its an absolute must have. Cutting out sockets on walls when tacking cannot get anyfaster then using a rotary tool. What separates this rotary tool from other competitors is the size, and the power. The slick body allows for easy storage in a pouch. The only negative thing I could add to this is the battery life. If used persistantely the battery can be drained relatively quickly. But to counter this the charging time is no more than an hour. absolutely love this item. would not hessitate to buy again.
great tool, excellent not tied to a cord, but would recommend buying a spare battery. Quick to charge and good battery life. Easy to use and stores away well in its case. Wish I had invested in one sooner. Great for the hobbyist and little to medium jobs around the house.
its actually better than i thought it would be!!! the case is just rubbish but the Dremel itself is a great piece of kit even better when you buy the cordless!!
Would like to share my experience of dremmel 8220 12v platinum edition received today used already asking how I got by without this bit ov kit this Best Buy I’ve made in many years true game changer cannot stress how good this is 5stars buy now regret never you won’t be disappointed
This paid for itself on one job. Needed to cut slots in stainless steel and nothing else small enough to do the job. Really good tool and I will find plenty of uses for it going forward.
I owned a Black & Decker Wizard (corded) that finally broke after 16 years of use, so I bought this as a replacement.
First, I’m extremely happy that my old Wizard had compatible accessories as I now have a plunge/routing tool and flexible extension that work fine with this Dremel as well as about 30 cutting discs and 10-20 other bits.
On to the Dremel itself and although quite a bit larger than my old device, is very light and easy to hold. This allows you to be very dexterous for fine work that you’re doing.
Battery life is good – you only get 1 battery with the 2/45 kit I bought.
Loses half a star as the grey carry case is fairly flimsy (not at all as robust as my previous Black & Decker one) and closes with a small degree of difficulty (edges of case don’t align perfectly).
Drops another half a star as the led light is VERY flimsy and tricky to put back together after changing batteries (especially aligning the blue switch in the housing).
Apart from this though, great device that is extremely useful around the house and is great not being tethered by a power lead.
If you want a multi tool – get this one.
